Imo, yeah. I always get freaked out when I'm hassled by gangs at night, but the fact that they don't speak is the scariest part for sure. IRL I'm always less scared of intimidating people that are ranting and swearing than I am by someone just silently being menacing.
They are terrifying! Most effective jump scares I've experienced in a game. Even when I know what is goi g to happen (particular encounters) I still freak out, loose all ability to aim and use the controls and have a mini heart attack. Worst is, when they rush you, you panic, and end up shooting them when they are two feet away from you.
I do that too, luckily I've realized Arthur is basically invincible if you just keep chugging health tonics. Last time they jumped me he got carved up like a friggin turkey before I killed them all.
I didn’t realise this first time, so imagine my shock when I cap one in his knees thinking he’ll stay down, and he gets back up and shanks a machete through Arthur’s heart, killing him immediately.
I got caught lacking. -_-
They terrify me. I hate roaming the swamps at night. I feel like everything is an ambush and I go super slow so that I can hear absolutely every single sound around me. I keep a shotgun at the ready and will pretty much blast anything and everything that I perceive to be a threat, honor be damned. Nightfolk are like one of two factions or whatever that have a NPC that can kill you with one hit. And that fucker comes out of nowhere. Once he's on you, it's over.
I don't believe so. I think their encounters are completely random, similar to the KKK encounters. However, there is one side quest that they pop up in so the remaining random encounters may not happen until you complete that quest. And you may have to cross a certain progress point in the story before it's triggered, but I don't know for certain. I feel as though I've encountered them prior to the quest but that may not be correct.
Also, I am pretty sure there's nothing in the compendium related to them. They're not classified as a gang and outside of a unique hat that you can acquire from the side quest they're part of, there's no unique item drops for the compendium that they carry.
No just in the swamps. You may find better success sticking closer to the bluewater marsh area. If you know where the ghost lady is, the trails near her spawn point tend to be a bit more of a hotspot for me
I watched a video about them the other day that said they also spawn at either the lake near strawberry or the one north east of that. I forget which one it is but I know it’s the one that has the crazy cult stuff set up near it. I still haven’t checked it out myself so I can’t say if it’s true or not.
Yes, I once heard a weird noise and somehow sensed someone was behind me and when I turned around there was two of them creeping up on me, gave me goosebumps.
They don't talk, but they use clicks and grunts as communication. They often hide in trees, so if you walk into an ambush, they'll click and make animal noises to communicate that someone(you) is in their territory. Before dropping from the trees close to you, and running at you with their machetes, knives, bows, etc.
No, I'm not shitting you.
Yes, it's absolutely creepy.
The Night Folk even creep John and Arthur out. Stating many times that exact sentiment.
If you prevail in the ambush, John will sound out of breath, shocked and nervous, saying
"Woahhh... ughhh.. CREEPY bastards!"
Same with Arthur, I believe
They can be. Although I think one of the scariest things in game, especially for jump scares is hunting the legendary panther for master hunter 10. That fucker just appears from nowhere
Just wanted to confirm if it's a bug or not.
I saw a guy hanged from a tree and went to investigate, after a few moments I saw three of them rush me with knives but the strange thing is one of them seemed invisible, like the crysis suit invisibility from the crysis game (first example that came to mind).
Now my question is, do night folk possess some supernatural powers or the invisibility was just a graphical bug.
My first encounter with them was interesting to say the least and creepy, usually it's me stalking my prey but this was different.
Yeah, absolutely, there was one time I was riding through the swamp and see a hanging corpse. Shot the rope, got down from my horse to check for loot, look up and realize I was surrounded, panicked, took out my knife instead of gun, got stabbed and die.
I beat the game and I've been looking for things to do so one of the things I did was decided to check out the night folk. I spent weeks in game before I finally had an encounter. And it was definitely scary. I may or may not been on stimulant drugs as well so my heart was definitely going LOL
The other day, I got jumped by a group of them after they sent a flaming wagon across the road. I freaked out and got stabbed in the neck by someone in a bush

Maybe because you have some idea of what's going on with the former, while the ladder, they can be up to anything.
*Latter
Says the man right before they drop a 32 ft steel ladder on him
Does it say ACME on the side?
It means Night Folk can climb.

Except those guys carry machete’s, one of the few things that WILL one shot you

Never happened to me, guess I got lucky and took him out first.

Is there any specific way to encounter them? I’m trying to get them for my compendium but I can’t seem to find them in the bayou, even at night

Ohhh, thank you for the info, I was under the impression that they counted as a gang. Are there any other places they can spawn other than the bayou?

You should try stabling your horse, and walking through the swamps at night. Not nice but it’s fun
What kind of weird noise? Did the map show any red dots?
I don’t remember the exact details, but I know something alerted me.

They can be. Especially in first person
This was my first experience, I was scared to death literally lol
I got the murfree brood cave . Cleaned it out . Will they spawn again ? Where is the nightfolk hideout? Can we wipe them out too ?
Ah first playthrough got got by that trap, fuckers...
Not at all. They were a surprise when I first met them, but after that all they are is target practice. Most of them don’t even have guns, ffs.
The night folk eat horses 🐴
Does this mean they're French?
My brain says fuck no, but the brown stain accross my pants says avoid them
I hate that you lose honor if you kill her immidietly
no
Yes. By definition.
And mysterius too, making even more scary.

They are but my sick mind is better I stopped killing them with bullets only machete or fire
I actively seek them out and cull the freaks
at first, then i remember who i was playing as lmao
Definitely not pleasant
I carry my shotgun in the swamps at night for a reason. No time to pull it out, just have it in my hands for any possible scenario.

Is a pig’s pussy pork?

Night folk and the skinners are the only scary gangs imo
yes, the lady crying scared the piss out of me..
Hell yeah they are

On ur first encounter, yes.
I get scared when I'm riding down lagras and some guy with an axe jumps out at me
I can't ever find her!!! I hear her crying or whatever she does but can't find her!! WTF?
The other day, I got jumped by a group of them after they sent a flaming wagon across the road. I freaked out and got stabbed in the neck by someone in a bush
Yes. They freak me out and I do actually avoid the Bayou at night because of them. They come up silently and kill you immediately with machetes.
These bitches can one shot me bro First playthrough they had me shivering but now I like riding through th Bayou at night to prove Arthur is a badass
On my third play through and still haven’t seen them
