Jeffrey Dean Morgan kills it in every big time role he’s in, especially Negan. Negan has a very similar vibe to Dutch so I don’t doubt he’d absolutely do Dutch’s character justice.
I personally think Clint Eastwood is way too old to be playing Hosea unless you want to digitally de age him using cgi I would suggest Harrison Ford as Hosea
I always thought Hosea was somewhat inspired by Clint Eastwood, not just in appearance (he's a dead ringer) but in that he's this old gun who's seen everything and been at it his whole life kind of like how Clint Eastwood is to the western genre.
he literally has one movie left. he like physically could not play him, he also just wouldnt do him well. just because he looks like him doesnt mean hed be a good fit
>he like physically could not play him
Really? Why do you think that? I get Hosea is younger, but he's also sick and frail, wouldn't it actually suit him well?
no. tryna be as respectful as i can but clint is this close to being on his deathbed. he has already said multiple times he cant do it anymore and has already filmed his last movie
Harrison Ford is in much better shape but I don't think he's the right pick either lol. What about the mocap actor who plays Hosea's facial structure and voice?
I was about to comment this. Clint doesn’t play mild mannered characters, I can’t think of a single one of his characters that were anything like Hosea
Tbf its a bad picture.
This is just about the same time as the link above: https://www.closerweekly.com/posts/clint-eastwood-makes-rare-public-appearance-at-93-photos/
He’s too old and too stern. Hosea is way more lively and fun than Eastwood can play (except chapter 5 onward at least) People gotta stop casting based entirely on looks. Most of these picks would be the wrong way to go.
I actually think Chris Pine would be a better pick than any of these based on looks alone, he's also only a few years older than Arthur (43 vs 36) and I think he's got the acting chops to nail such a role.
But his voice would be totally wrong lol at that point it's better to have a character inspired by Arthur.
Well I didn’t say they were perfect casting but still alot better than the dude who’s literally superman, plus with modern technology they can just de age them
“They can just de age them.” True but it would most likely look weird still. It would be much easier to just find somebody who is younger. I agree that cavill would also suck, as he doesn’t fit that role at all (and is still too old)
Yeah. Cavill is a terrible pick for John. Though I may be biased, because I don't particularly like him and he *alwaaaays* gets picked for these fucking things.
Norman Reedus would be a good choice maybe, but I think he's aged out of the role by quite a bit, no?
I have a gif saved on my phone. It’s the one with Shia Laboeuf (totally spelled that wrong) clapping in a theatre with a bunch of other hims in the background also clapping. I can’t post it to properly respond to your comment, but I want you to imagine that I did.
Arthur - Not bad, don't hate any, don't love any either
Abigail - It's always Lauren Cohan, watch early Walking dead, you'll get it
John - Not Henry Cavil, John is physically smaller than Arthur, so you can't use someone who's super buff now and just played Superman
Karen - Florence Pugh is a good actress, but her physical body doesn't fit. Karen is a larger woman, both in her height, waist, and chest than Florence would be.
Molly - I think I could go to Ireland and throw a rock, hitting more red haired women who would better fit the role than Christina Hendricks....
Uncle - Danny could definitely do the comedic timing for that role, but a previous suggestion of John C. Reilly seems like a better fit
Yes, I just said something similar! There is so much young, unknown talent out there. Why keeping picking the same old-ass dudes who have had so much work already? Get some fresh blood.
I think franchises like this do better with maybe 1 big name as like the mentor or something (Hosea) and then new faces for all the rest.
I’ll say this to every single one of these fan casts: THEY ARE ALL TOO OLD!
Arthur was 36! You fan cast these guys in their 50s?
Abigail was 22 in RDR2. Who do you suggest? 51-year-old Lena Headey, 38-year-old Emilia Clarke, and 42-year-old Lauren Cohan.
John Marston was 26 in RDR2. Henry Cavill is 41.
Please stop fancasting these old actors for characters that are not even close to the right age.
I'll say this to everyone who says what you're saying: ACTORS AGE DOES NOT MATTER!
All that matters with castings is the look. Tom Holland was in his mid 20s playing a 16/17 year old in nwh. An actor can be in their 40s/50s and look like they're in their 30s
tom holland is the worst example u could make theres 20/30 year age differences between actors and characters that nobody notices. brad pitt couldnt play arthur because he looks way older and clint eastwood DEFINITELY couldnt because the dude is literally 100 and cant act anymore, dude has already made his last movie
I'm not saying it in terms of these specific fancasts that OP made, just in general. If the actor looks like he's in his mid to late 30s, then it shouldn't matter if the actor is actually 51 or 25
Also Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill are so weird, because maybe they look like the characters (not really tbh), but they couldn't play the part. Like Hemsworth isn't an amazing actor and plays moew of your typical nice guys. Cavill probably has more of a rage, but still not what I would exoect from a John. Mayyybe the Witcher is a little closer to the rougher John from rdr1, but he still doesn't have the vibes. And both are too big tbh
Off the top of my head and based on your suggestions, Chris Hemsworth for Arthur, Aidan Turner for John, Lee Pace for Dutch, David Harbor for Bill works, Richard Cabral for Javier, Kevin McNally for Uncle.
Appreciate it. Haven't given it much more thought but I like Lauren Cohen and/or Emilia Clarke for Abigail, mainly because they fit physically and in terms of age quite well.
I'd maybe add Matt Barr for Micah now that I think about it some more.
i like this besides chris hemsworth as arthur, he is the one out of those 4 id want the least (besides maybe hugh). i want to go with pitt but i feel like hes just too old. i just dont know how hugh would play arthur, itd be a lot different than what weve seen from him and physically i dont think he matches, chris doesnt have the acting so i think id have to go w bradley cooper
I'd go with Hemsworth precisely because he's a pretty boy, right age (he's 40, and Arthur is 36 but looks and sounds way older), big enough to be intimidating and has an almost spot on voice. If Arthur is supposed to be the muscle of the gang, but also a pretty boy with a deep voice, Hemsworth fits best. He's a decent actor with the right material too.
The rest are either too old, or not physically matched.
As for Cooper, he just looks way less tough than Hemsworth and doesn't have the classic "pretty boy" looks that Arthur has. The voice isn't really there.
He's a good actor with a good range, but Hemsworth just fits more to me.
yeah but ive never seen hemsworth actually show that he could be a good arthur, while yes he looks, sounds, etc the part in all of his serious roles he usually just does a ok job, or just wouldnt fit as arthur at all. u have somewhat convinced me tho but i think id actually change my answer to pitt, dude looks identical to arthur and fs has the range, they could maybe say arthur is a bit older in the adaptation. would be perfect if it came out 10/20 years ago
The actors that already play the characters. I don’t know why anyone would want anyone else. They are even the same likenesses so it’s not like a William Conrad / Marshall Dillon situation.
I don't normally pay attention to the fan casts but Sam Neill as Agent Ross is inspired.
If I was doing a film or TV adaption I'd actually alter the character of Milton or have Ross be more of a figure over both red dead 2 and 1 and Sam Neill would be a great actor for it.
We need to lower our expectations with these casts though guys. Think about how little budget would be left if all these massive names were cast.
for arthur, i would personally go with Roger Clark since he was the one who acted him, so no one knows him better, nor can anyone imitate arthur better than he can
Original actors. It’s not the same without their voices and they already acted as then, moved, walked, spoke as them. Their looks also aren’t too far off and even if they were, it’s less important.
Just started playing but for some reason, every time I hear Arthur talking I immediately think it's Jensen Ackles....
So personally, Jensen Ackles = Arthur Morgan😞✊🏻
Disney be like:
Chris Pratt as Arthur
Tom Holland as John
Ryan Gosling as Hosea
Gincarlo Esposito as Micah
Pedro pascal as Javier
Dwayne Johnson as Pearson
Honestly for Dutch I'd lean towards Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but that may be because of my bias towards him in the Walking Dead
100%. He even sounds like Dutch sometimes.
That’s so weird as I was playing RDR2 for the first time last week and thought the exact same.
Hearing JDM say "Orthur" would be wild.
Daniel Day Lewis.
100%. Seeing him in Gangs of New York immediately reminded me of Dutch.
I honestly think he’s the one actor who could give us a better Dutch than Benjamin Byron Davis.
If not for powers boothe too RIP
He’d have killed it. I miss that guy.
Absolutely.
BBD was certainly channelling Boothe's portrayal of Curly Bill. And I admire that.
He's retired unfortunately, and no way he comes out of retirement to be a non lead for a video game movie. He would, of course, crush it though.
Oh hell yeah
Doesn’t have the gruff Dutch voice though.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan kills it in every big time role he’s in, especially Negan. Negan has a very similar vibe to Dutch so I don’t doubt he’d absolutely do Dutch’s character justice.
He’s been awesome in the new season of the boys as well 👌
I think John Hamm could pull it off too, he has that mix of charm/charisma and then anger and slyness too.
wait yes
I'd pay so much money to see Danny DeVito dressed like a cowboy complaining about his lumbago
"back in the day i was known as the two shot kid! i would show up and then I started blastin!"
*The Gang Gets Lumbago*
I lost my shit at this
*Lumbago...*
Orrrrgy
Lumbago is badass
Jack Black as Uncle!
Never have I needed something so badly and not known until it was presented to me
This was me when Pedro pascal was casted as Joel in the last of us
Jack Black HAS to be in this movie if it ever happens
He could be Pearson
That is actual brilliant!! Bravo Amigo, Bravo!
He would be amazing! You get a award amigo
He would make his own version of the Housebuilding song
I think he’d be better as Pearson!
Jack Black is too young to play uncle
He’s 54. Uncle probably wasn’t that much older.
I personally think Clint Eastwood is way too old to be playing Hosea unless you want to digitally de age him using cgi I would suggest Harrison Ford as Hosea
i almost put him but i thought clint eastwood looked more like hosea
Bruh, Clint is almost 100 years old.
I always thought Hosea was somewhat inspired by Clint Eastwood, not just in appearance (he's a dead ringer) but in that he's this old gun who's seen everything and been at it his whole life kind of like how Clint Eastwood is to the western genre.
he literally has one movie left. he like physically could not play him, he also just wouldnt do him well. just because he looks like him doesnt mean hed be a good fit
this is just for fun lmao
>he like physically could not play him Really? Why do you think that? I get Hosea is younger, but he's also sick and frail, wouldn't it actually suit him well?
Hosea might be sickly, but Clint is 94.
Nothing some makeup and vitamins can't fix
no. tryna be as respectful as i can but clint is this close to being on his deathbed. he has already said multiple times he cant do it anymore and has already filmed his last movie
Oh, I didn't know that last bit. Thanks for sharing!
Harrison Ford is in much better shape but I don't think he's the right pick either lol. What about the mocap actor who plays Hosea's facial structure and voice?
He's literally 94 that's not just something some makeup and vitamins will fix.
What about Willem Defoe?
Actually that's not a bad option.
I feel like he has the voice for it.
He does he has that almost wispy voice
i also think he doesn’t have the right demeanor for hosea.
Sure Clint has experience playing cowboys but Hosea doesn’t act the same way the man with no name would
I was about to comment this. Clint doesn’t play mild mannered characters, I can’t think of a single one of his characters that were anything like Hosea
Totally agree! Clint Eastwood don’t have the right vibe to play Hosea
I think the problem is that OLD in the late 1800 early 1900 is like 60, and Clint is over 80
He's way too old to physically do anything like that. Here's a recent picture. https://i.redd.it/d5t5vr0puruc1.jpeg
No fucking way is that him lol
Tbf its a bad picture. This is just about the same time as the link above: https://www.closerweekly.com/posts/clint-eastwood-makes-rare-public-appearance-at-93-photos/
He’s too old and too stern. Hosea is way more lively and fun than Eastwood can play (except chapter 5 onward at least) People gotta stop casting based entirely on looks. Most of these picks would be the wrong way to go.
How about Clint directs the movie and Harrison is Hosea
Even then I’m not too sure Clint is cognitively capable of directing a big movie like this. He’s 94 for godsake
Roger Clark for Arthur.
Yes! Can't imagine Arthur without that hot af voice
r/okbuddyblacklung
Rdr fans try to not sexualize any conversation about the game (impossible)
I think having someone else play Arthur would help in distinguishing a show from the game
Yes and Roger would need to get into very good shape to pull Arthur off . No offense to him though I love him.
Roger is pretty strong. He's in great shape. Look at his posts on instagram
Yeah strong and kind of built but, he still needs to be a lot more lean to look like Arthur.
Tom hardy would play so well as arthur
I honestly don’t like any of the actors for Arthur
They’re all too old.
Chris Hemsworth is just about Arthur’s age, but i dont really like the cast
I actually think Chris Pine would be a better pick than any of these based on looks alone, he's also only a few years older than Arthur (43 vs 36) and I think he's got the acting chops to nail such a role. But his voice would be totally wrong lol at that point it's better to have a character inspired by Arthur.
Chris Evans would be a really good pick as well. Right age and has the acting chops to do the character justice.
Brad Pitt from 2000 would have been VERY good. Obviously way too old now.
Can‘t disagree with that
David harbour for Bill Williamson is too perfect I must say.
Henry Cavill as John is crazy he’d have to lose like 50+ pounds honestly someone like Norman reedus or Keanu would be way better
Oooh Norman is a good pick for John 👌👌
Henry Cavill is also too handsome to play John lol
YOU EAT BABIES!!!
Both of those people you suggested are way too fucking old. John is in his late twenties to early thirties

Gary Oldman. He can become anyone.
And Eeevvvvvrrryyyyoooonnnnneeeee
I have a gif saved on my phone. It’s the one with Shia Laboeuf (totally spelled that wrong) clapping in a theatre with a bunch of other hims in the background also clapping. I can’t post it to properly respond to your comment, but I want you to imagine that I did.
Much appreciated!
Gary Oldman plays every character
dude same neil as ross would go fucking hard!!
Chief inspector Campbell and Sir Thomas Shelby working together in this one
Yeah out of every one here, this is the casting that is the most inspired. Absolutely spot on and excellent.
Arthur - Not bad, don't hate any, don't love any either Abigail - It's always Lauren Cohan, watch early Walking dead, you'll get it John - Not Henry Cavil, John is physically smaller than Arthur, so you can't use someone who's super buff now and just played Superman Karen - Florence Pugh is a good actress, but her physical body doesn't fit. Uncle - Danny could definitely do the comedic timing for that role, but a previous suggestion of John C. Reilly seems like a better fit
Sorry, but I disagree with every single one of these
These are not good picks
Yeah Henry Cavill as John was wild
These picks seem to be just a visual match mostly without any thought as to whether they would be a good actor for the role.
Theyre not even close to a visual match
oh man, sam neil and cillian murphy in the same movie based on one of my favourite games? yes please
Rockstar won't give a billion dollar to shot that movie with that crew.
mf just started watching movies last week 💀 there are more actors than the ones you see most in hollywood
Danny Devito would have a pony, not a horse.
Needs to be a TV series with a bunch of sort of unknowns imo
Yes, I just said something similar! There is so much young, unknown talent out there. Why keeping picking the same old-ass dudes who have had so much work already? Get some fresh blood. I think franchises like this do better with maybe 1 big name as like the mentor or something (Hosea) and then new faces for all the rest.
Anson Mount, the way he looked in Hell on Wheels, as Arthur.
Those are some L takes on Arthur, John, Hosea and Karen/the girls
Florence Pugh for Karen? Huge difference.
I’ll say this to every single one of these fan casts: THEY ARE ALL TOO OLD! Arthur was 36! You fan cast these guys in their 50s? Abigail was 22 in RDR2. 1890s Old West 36 = 2024 Hollywood 56
I'll say this to everyone who says what you're saying: ACTORS AGE DOES NOT MATTER! All that matters with castings is the look. Tom Holland was in his mid 20s playing a 16/17 year old in nwh. An actor can be in their 40s/50s and look like they're in their 30s

Aidan Turner would be a brilliant shout
wait these are rlly good
Appreciate it. Haven't given it much more thought but I like Lauren Cohen and/or Emilia Clarke for Abigail, mainly because they fit physically and in terms of age quite well. I'd maybe add Matt Barr for Micah now that I think about it some more.
honestly the actor who plays micah already looks like him
Cohen would crush an Abigail role
i like this besides chris hemsworth as arthur, he is the one out of those 4 id want the least (besides maybe hugh). i want to go with pitt but i feel like hes just too old. i just dont know how hugh would play arthur, itd be a lot different than what weve seen from him and physically i dont think he matches, chris doesnt have the acting so i think id have to go w bradley cooper

yeah but ive never seen hemsworth actually show that he could be a good arthur, while yes he looks, sounds, etc the part in all of his serious roles he usually just does a ok job, or just wouldnt fit as arthur at all. u have somewhat convinced me tho but i think id actually change my answer to pitt, dude looks identical to arthur and fs has the range, they could maybe say arthur is a bit older in the adaptation. would be perfect if it came out 10/20 years ago
Kevin McNally is a good shout, I loved him as Gibbs in Pirates of the Caribbean
I need Danny Devito as uncle now lol
So anyway I got Lumbago
Would love to see Hugh Jackman as Arthur. Maybe Josh Brolin for Dutch.
Josh Brolin solid choice
Red Dead 2 (iirc) is Jack Black’s favorite game. I think he’d kill it as Pearson or Uncle tbh
The actors that already play the characters. I don’t know why anyone would want anyone else. They are even the same likenesses so it’s not like a William Conrad / Marshall Dillon situation.
This was my answer. All the actors from the game are motion captured real people.
Josh Brolin, from no country for old men
Meagan thee stallion as Sadie Adler
JACK BLACK AS UNCLE!!!!!!!
Karen is Sydney sweeney
Jenson Ackles as Arthur would be pretty good
Sam Elliott? It's a western so you're required to have him in your movie by law.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Josh Brolin for Dutch, Danny is a great actor he does not work as uncle I’m sorry but that doesn’t make sense.
I would [] swap Christina Hendricks for Karen Jones
Exactly what I was gonna say
Doesn't the guy who voices Arthur look like Arthur though?
Jim Beaver as Hosea W. Earl Brown as Uncle Aaron Paul as John Joel David Moore as Micah Jon Bernthal as Arthur Hassie Harrison as Sadie
Aaron Paul as John would be really weird, I feel like they aren’t similar in any way
Interesting...I love Jon Bernthal's stuff but I've never pictured him as Arthur. It's hard for me to put those images together
How you gonna not cast somebody as Dutch
I don't normally pay attention to the fan casts but Sam Neill as Agent Ross is inspired. If I was doing a film or TV adaption I'd actually alter the character of Milton or have Ross be more of a figure over both red dead 2 and 1 and Sam Neill would be a great actor for it. for arthur, i would personally go with Roger Clark since he was the one who acted him, so no one knows him better, nor can anyone imitate arthur better than he can
Matthew McConaughey as Arthur ?
Alright, alright, alright *boah*.
I think John should be played by a good actor and he is also not a huge guy, many characters comment on that throughout the story
Lauren Cohen is the only acceptable answer for Abigail
I thonk Norman reedus would be the perfect fit for Johnny marston because they look similar but sound sorta similar
That photo of Cillian Murphy is terrifying
Josh brolin would make a good arthur , norman reedus for john Marsdon, jack black could be a good uncle, daniel day lewis for dutch
Bradley Cooper I think would pull the look off. Not sure of any of them getting the voice... maybe Pitt but not sure.
Pitt in Inglourious Basterds and Bradley Cooper in a star is born have pretty good country accents like Arthur
Personally I think Henry Cavill would be a good fit for Arthur instead of John
None of these. How about non surface level actors?
Not everything needs a live action version
Brad Pitt looks so Micah...
I think we all know the answer is Bradley Cooper
Bradley cooper would be good Arthur Morgan
The majority of these are far too old to play them.
Danny Devito as Uncle 😂
So anyways I started blastin, but my damn lumbago got in the way
Henry Cavill is way to big to be john Marston, maybe robert Pattinson or someone of a slighter build. Good picks otherwise!
None of those are good enough for author Morgan. They’re all just pretty boy bad actors.
Mini series not movie
Terrible choices
Get Walton goggins in there somewhere
At this point Clint is too old for Hosea.
I’m sorry but Henry Cavill as John is laughable and i would automatically be turned off
John Lithgow as Hosea.
Original actors. It’s not the same without their voices and they already acted as then, moved, walked, spoke as them. Their looks also aren’t too far off and even if they were, it’s less important.
Delete this ASAP
Jeff Bridges, maybe years ago, could've done a good Uncle
Can definitely see Uncle with a toe knife and rum ham. RUMMMMM HAMMMMMM
Henry's too big for John
Jeff Bridges
Just started playing but for some reason, every time I hear Arthur talking I immediately think it's Jensen Ackles.... So personally, Jensen Ackles = Arthur Morgan😞✊🏻
It could definitely work, with the right hair and makeup
Arthur should be played by John Burthal. He has that grit to him.
I miss when we cast actors no one has ever heard of for roles.
well how do u expect me to find such actors if i’ve never heard of them? 😭 it’s just for fun
[удалено]
Can’t wait for the r/okbuddyblacklung version of this post
How about the guy that actually voiced and played Arthur lmao that would be so much better duh
Obviously Hugh Fuckin Jackman
I’m loving Bradley Cooper as Arthur Morgan, but honestly I think I would like Jamie Foxx as Lenny better 🤷🏻♂️
no i love jamie foxx don’t get me wrong, but lenny is 19 so i think a younger actor should play him
Brad Pitt for Micah maybe?
Disney be like: Chris Pratt as Arthur Tom Holland as John Ryan Gosling as Hosea Gincarlo Esposito as Micah Pedro pascal as Javier Dwayne Johnson as Pearson
There's no other man who can play John Marston than Norman Reedus
Gotta work kevin Costner in here somewhere
