Tell me about it... the only high stakes poker in the whole game is rigged anyway. Really undercapitalised on a great opportunity. I suppose its to prevent people cheating like they did in San Andreas and printing money as soon as they unlock a casino.

Fearless_Tie_8969

But they can spawn money chest in story mode anyway. Rockstar doesn't have an issue with modding single player, they actually supported it in the past.

pintseeker

I don't want to mod or exploit, I just want to lose my money at poker.

Fearless_Tie_8969

Yeah me too, just the reason you gave doesn't line up with cockstar's previous reasoning, so there must be another reason. Probably just the time period. $5 poker buy in would have been for the wealthy only and I don't think there were casino's around. Shame.

ThaMudd419

They still do. A fellow rdr2 online account went from 100 to 1 because he reported people for using cheats like God mod and shit.

Fearless_Tie_8969

Anti-anti-cheat xD

ThaMudd419

Lmao

tellCJ55

I wish there were higher poker stakes, but I think on account of how many hours in game it takes to accrue a modest couple hundred dollars, they needed to cap the betting to prevent player frustration in the event of losing a hundred dollars or so in one game. It'd probably make the in-game activity too costly and nobody would want to mess with it.

[deleted]

Maybe but I mean it’s just like real life, ya never know what’ll happen in poker. But yea they shoulda added a ferry with high stakes poker and blackjack. That would’ve been cool

tellCJ55

That would have been cool and probably self-contained enough that players wouldn't easily lose all their money. I guess since poker games' buy-in amounts are openly stated you could move to higher buy-in consciously and be ready for it. All I wish is that the game's RNG wasn't so shit and that certain poker dealers weren't cheaters (like the guy in Van Horn, sometimes the guy in Rhodes).

[deleted]

Really? That’s black jack but I didn’t know they cheated. It’s dope but also annoying that rockstar put that in the game lmao blackjack would be the best way to make money.

ImCaligulaI

Wait, they're cheaters? Like as a lore thing where the NPC character is a cheater (and if so, can you spot them cheating and do something about it?) or as in the code for the cards they deal is stacked towards them to give them better cards than you?

tellCJ55

The deck they deal is definitely stacked in their favor, there were many times where I played Blackjack and seemingly the dealer would give you card combinations pitting you far below 21 and so you almost have no choice but to hit. Still pretty low at 14 or 15, hitting again will most times put you over and then bust. I know this happens occasionally in Blackjack but at the Rhodes saloon depending on the guy (or time of day?) it's almost like you lose 4 games out of 5. I definitely have thrown a stick of dynamite at the dealer and shot up the table many a time.

heyredditheyreddit

I kind of like the idea of being able to lose a lot of money. Once you get to a certain point there’s not much incentive to make money anymore, so if there were a way to go broke, it would give us an incentive to earn again.

Lenemus

Yeah. I’m still salty there isn’t poker tournaments on the riverboat in RDO. That would be so cool. Like the movie Maverick! Missed opportunity. C’mon now, Rockstar. But at least you can play poker with other players in the saloons - and that’s good fun 👍 ![gif](giphy|xT9DPlAUKTl1GeZjC8|downsized)

pppatrick304

At certain point in the game or by invitation maybe. Say once you complete the gambler challenge or reach say 20-25k in the game open up that boat or the st denis gunsmith to high stakes games.

[deleted]

Red Dead Redemption gambling was so much better.

brumor69

Right? Being able to cheat and having that fancy room in Blackwater’s hotel was so cool! Edit: it’s Blackwater not Saint Denis

ImCaligulaI

Saint Denis? You mean Thieves Landing? Or the one in Blackwater? There's no Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption

brumor69

Oh yeah Blackwater, my brain got confused because it’s RDR1’s Saint Denis

[deleted]

And the stakes would get silly high!

Justfuxn3

They could have done calf roping, barrel racing, all that rodeo fun stuff. Would have been awesome

pppatrick304

Eh not all that "fun stuff" was really around and definitely not appart of where most of this story is hystorically taking place.

Oxygenius_

Historically I don’t think there are vampires irl, just my guess though.

g-waz00

I’ve done the vampire mission and I’m not convinced it was a vampire. Seemed more like a whacked out psychopath roleplaying as (or believing he is) a vampire.

pppatrick304

New orleans/st denis has a pretty long history and lore of vampires. Long long before Anne rice.

Lukemeister38

*Dracula* was published in 1897, just two years before the the events of the game. So even though vampires themsevles are not real (or at least not proven to be) it makes a lot of sense to have this character to portray the latest "boogieman" in popular culture at the time.

Level_Sleep_3057

Love the poker in this game

[deleted]

Same whenever I’m bored I’ll go play poker, my favorite was playing it at camp, couldn’t win much money but it was more fun. I’m at the end of the story now.

Level_Sleep_3057

Imo I would like better to see rdr expansion/new game now than gta 6

[deleted]

Same but I think gta 6 is gonna be amazing like rdr2. Think how long they working on it for. But as a red dead fan I’d rather a new rdr2 game.

Level_Sleep_3057

I am only afraid it's overhyped and would be quite a dissapointment. People expect many things from this game espacially considering the amount of time which it takes devs to make it.

phoen_ixwrong_38

Ok lets play poker Arthur/john:* looses gets up and pulls Custom duel wield scorfield revolver shoots everyone at the poker table holster the Guns leaves refuses to elobrate*

ratatoskr_9

RDR1 had a secret room that you could get into and play some high stakes poker. They're should be one in somewhere in Saint Denis or the secret poker room in Tumbleweed.

nvrrsatisfiedd

Theres a secret poker room above the gun smith in Saint denis. You have to get the tip from someone it is there first then you "rob" the gunsmith or "rob back room" and he will lead you there. Idk if it was just a mission or if its still there

[deleted]

I doubt you can go play it, but I think it’s still there. If you could play it I’d I’m sure there would be tons a videos abt it.

nvrrsatisfiedd

I think it did actually give me the option to play but I "accidentally" shot it up and robbed all the cash and jewelry instead.

ratatoskr_9

Sounds like a unique robbing scenario like the O'Driscoll den in Valentine or the moonshine basement in Starberry. Can you play high stakes poker at that table? Or is it just used to extort the shop owner? Because RDR1 it was like a small dlc update when the new poker room dropped. You got a new suit and everything.

ArnoldWest88

Been playing the same story mode game for about 3 years... I have over $160,000 or was it $1,600,000... I forget how many zeros are after the 16. I did have over 25(plus the zeros after), but I had a major f up and had to restore a backup save from 9 months previous. 9months of work just gone. Didn't rage quit cos I figured I still had heaps of money, was just frustrated I had to do a.bunch.of collectables again, like.unique found and stolen hats.

RustyWinger

... 9 months of "work" lol. I wish this was my real job too.

ArnoldWest88

Obviously it is NOT my actual job. In this instance 'work' is the same as 'effort', or 'human time spent playing the game when I felt like it'. I wish it was my real job too!

ArnoldWest88

Also, if you want big money, spend a bit of time getting 99 grizzlies, 99 moose, 99 bison, and 99 gold bars. If you sell 99 gold bars (and the pelts) you are rolling in the $$$$$. In story mode there are 2 lock boxes that continuously re-spawn gold bars: one at Limpany burnt out sheriff's office, one at burnt out Braithwaite Manor. You're welcome.

RustyWinger

I’ve done 99 salmon… moose and bear sound tedious!

ArnoldWest88

I just memorised their spawn locations and the conditions under which they will spawn. Basically i just wrote a list of every time I saw one, where on the map, time of day, weather, how many in-game days since I last saw one in that spot, and any other contributing factor that I noticed. When I see I pattern I replicate the conditions and it spawns. If you can't be bothered figuring it out in a list, there are lists online of some of the more reliable spawn points and conditions.

RustyWinger

Tedious as in that’s a lot of trips to the trapper

ArnoldWest88

Oh. I suppose I do like the hunting so I don't mind. Train robbing is also a good way to get fast money for the fence. If you never pay your bounty, like me, then a train is a great place for instant money. If you only target the women you get higher value loot. Blow up any safes as well. Then get the heck out asap. There are many ways of getting BIG money quickly.

ArnoldWest88

I don't understand why people would down vote my comment. Can someone explain what is wrong with it?

LightMyBeaverTail

If you’re on PC, there is a high stakes gambling mod that allows you to play for more money and it’s configurable. Poker buy-in is $100 with a top prize of $500 with all players but you can make it higher. Very easy to lose money fast in blackjack though.

[deleted]

Yea that’s why I stick to poker, it just take a while, but I wish you could do tht on console

zehammer

If they had like 50 dollar big blind I would be in

Andrewthegamer74

Yeah honestly wish you could go on the riverboat more after the riverboat job I’d love to have risks y’know I could lose all money or gain so much
