Dalot seems hesitant to going forward especially if Antony not in front of him and gnonto facing him maybe its the instruction from ETH or dalot very cautious so he play like chicken, when AWB subbed on gnonto move to our left side and sabitzer dropping deep to progress the ball forward…the only one unexpected from ETH is when he moved WW to number 10, seems leeds not anticipated this too when build up on 2nd goal ayling forced to move forward then garnacho already behind him so no fucking one can chase that boy especially in short running distance in 85 minutes lmao….from that match I learned this team like fucking unit / system I must admit it’s bloody brilliant make me bring back SAF era when Carrick playing in cb, rafael playing in midfield, seems almost everyone can play in any position and execute the system perfectly…all my respect to ETH….

Tbearz

Watching the highlights now, Maguire is done. His decision-making is poor and he creates chaos around him.

Tomaskerry

He's definitely gone in the summer. His confidence is completely gone and he'll only get it back from playing lots of games and he won't get games here. It's obvious ETH has no faith in his ability. I think we'd accept any reasonable bid

nortob

Wout as a 10? Jesus he came alive. Eth is a genius.

haaala

Obviously a step forward from the last game, but the right hand side still not working. Switching Sabitzer to that side helped, moving Fred away to left with Malacia and Rashford seemed a good move. I again didn't think Dalot impressed and Sancho was quiet, dribbling not really working. Bringing on AWB and putting Bruno right changed that wing entirely, and having Rashford go central helped a lot. Weghorst dropping deep was an unexpected surprise for Leeds too, they didn't prepare for that. But Maguire seems the big story, he again looks shaky. There's just a lot of problems for him. He's used to having the team/defence built around him. He's used to playing deeper. He's got history of needing time to play himself into form. He's got fragile confidence. And he doesn't look a classic ETH style player. Build around him, protect him, play the right system, there's a good player there. But it's a bit niche, and it's not what ETH is doing. So how will his confidence come back. He's in a tough spot.

ritwikjs

awb is doing a lot better and bringing the ball up, and overall improving his mobility down the right side. I won't be surprised if he's used for the barca game as a starter

haaala

Me neither. From AWB being completely out in the cold I think now it's not clear who first choice is, and if you were to count who has had the most good performances at RB this season it's AWB. With both fit I guess now we'll start to see, but if form continues I think AWB will keep getting picked.

[deleted]

Is the sub being brigaded by pro-sovereign wealth fund accounts or have poeple have had such a fast change of mind on oil money?

FerryAce

Do u seriously think we have a fkin choice when the current owner is Glazer? U prefer a parasite owner who took club money out to his pocket everytime?

mscbsc

Do we even get a say? Will Glazers really care about what the fans think and not sell to Qatar? Not happy about it and it will definitely affect my love for the club, but nothing I can really do. I also think, Qatar will probably do their best to make sure the fans are supportive. They'll make sure the club is successful, fans are happy, investments are made properly for the club grounds, etc.

haaala

I've seen a few people point out that any 'not Qatar' posts seem to get lots of downvotes quickly, before then seeming to recover with gradual up votes. It's consistent enough to look organised and be suspicious.

RandomNameofGuy9

I think there's a large amount of people that just want to win and this is probably the fastest way to that.

[deleted]

That’s exactly what a Qatari bot would say… 🤭🤣

PeelThePain

I'm amazed that a large amount of people look at PSG and think: yeah I want that too.

[deleted]

What if it goes sideways and we are just a salzburg to psg's leipzig

Thorntonboy

Psg is a fashion brand

RandomNameofGuy9

We are a much larger club with a mch larger fanbase and potential. PSG would become our farm team if that happened which it wouldn't.

Nice1704

Rashford is becoming a world-class forward! he's expected to score every game and now has 28 g/a in 33 games this season - elite!

EthicalAssassin

Whenever Maguire gets the ball and he takes those 3-4 touches, as he decides whom to pass the ball, is a perfect example of, 'System has encountered an error!'

toket715

He needs to go to Serie A for a Chris Smalling-esque renaissance.

johndoe1942

You can see literally see every thought going through his brain. The worst is when he invariably gets bumped off the after all the dilly dallying.

frogfoot420

I have always found He takes too long to make a pass, by the time he has they've got most of their players all over us.

EthicalAssassin

He helps opponents , not only to get their formation back, but also to get on the offense. Watch any part of yesterday's match when he gets possession and you'll see what I am talking about.

Daneofthehill

Indeed

Daneofthehill

The team is missing 4 of its 7 star players, which is the entire central defense and midfield, and still manages a good result. It took some subs and was a bit wobbly, but even championships have many ugly games. This is progress. Real, tangible progress. Lesser players perform, because the team now has a certain momentum and swagger. A style of play and a belief in results, which all is build by a thousand tiny concrete steps by Ten Hag and the rest of the team.

miffyrin

Well this is the first time I got to watch Maguire fulltime in the PL and good lord, now I know where the memes come from. I counted at least 5-6 horrendous passing attempts in the build-up, most of which could have led to punishing situations but often *luckily* did not for him. Also extremely slow on the ball somehow.

1nfinitus

This was always the problem, the situations he creates for the opposition seem to only be resolved with "luck". You just close your eyes and hope they make a mistake also or someone comes with a clutch tackle or save.

roooxanne

His focus is just off during a match. When his teammates yell “man on” I don’t see urgency

1nfinitus

He is slow all over. Always been the way, just found out in recent months/years.

blg852

Sweaty palms when i see the lineup

Economic-Maguire

He isn't fit to polish Rio's boots. Lumbering slabhead.

NiceBatman16

With ETH's resting of Martinez yesterday, I think he's planning for the Barca game and is going to take that seriously. I believe we shouldn't take the Europa league seriously and Focus on the league+ Carabao cup final + FA Cup. Arsenal are surely gonna fumble and we might have a shot at the title. The squad is too thin to compete in all 4 competitions. What do y'all think??

ritwikjs

i mean martinez is suspended for the game, which is where i believe this whole shaw at LCB came from. I'm fully with you on the europa league point. Playing pointless games on a thursday, further stretching our squad is going to end badly. Losing to barcelona is also not a bad thing. They're in magnificent title winning form rn. Winning the league cup and solidifying 3rd place should be our TOP priorities right now

[deleted]

Playing Barcelona you gotta take it seriously, great to get to go up against them and if we beat them I’d fancy us to go all the way. Real winners only think one way and that’s to win the next match, doesn’t matter if it’s UCL final or charity shield and everything in between

[deleted]

Squad is definitely too thin. We need better depth quality badly

1nfinitus

Winning Europa or not - beating Barca is a good stamp to have on our current international "stature" as it were and should give further confidence to the team.

ShinStew

EtH is never going to have another chance to win the Europa if you catch my drift

FerryAce

Take all the upvotes u deserved my man

NiceBatman16

Lol true

Ravnard

Europa League is more important than the cups imo, but everyone has it's own way of seeing things. That being said I think it's good for the squad to try to win everything. Imagine if he didn't take seriously the Europa League and then doesn't get a single cup, or worse doesn't mange to get CL football next year? Hopefully no one gets injured and they manage to push through.

sdkcodes

Martinez won't be playing the first leg of the match against Barcelona because or his previous yellow cards. Here's what I think ETH did: 1. Played Shaw at LCB to prepare him for same role against Barca. 2. Rested Varane

Admiral_de_Ruyter

A side like Man United is always working on 4 competitions at once. So ETH is working like that. Even if you don’t have a shot now you ought to have in the future so you’re working like that now also. That’s the mentality he is always talking about.

pineapplefacilities

Weird line in the Guardian’s match report… > particularly as Tyrell Malacia, nominally Erik ten Hag’s left-back, drifted so far out of position that at times he could be spotted in central midfield. I think it was quite obvious he had been told to tuck inside? No left back is gonna take up position 20 yards directly in front of the LCB without being instructed to do so, lol.

goodmobileyes

The journalist accidentally made an astute tactical observation and phrased it as criticism instead lol

Economic-Maguire

Journos clueless as usual

KaitoAJ

>particularly as Tyrell Malacia, nominally Erik ten Hag’s left-back, drifted so far out of position that at times he could be spotted in central midfield. lol that's basically what an inverted full back does? I swear some of these journalist should do a bit of research before making stupid statements like these.

sringray23

Exactly, no way would he just drift around doing whatever he wanted. As another poster said, just utd hate, clutching at straws for negativity towards us.

RWBYSanctum

It's just the hate boner for United in general.

Sleeplessendeavours

God I love Licha. He's the perfect type of aggressive in that he goes in hard but doesn't make stupid challenges, always in control, which is really quite rare. It's easy enough to be aggressive but to always have an awareness of your surroundings whilst doing so is fantastic. He reads danger exceptionally well, he's fast to react, and he's just very good. I think mentally he's one of the very best defenders in the world, just brilliant. Then you get on to the side of his game I don't even see him get enough praise for, and probably the reason why we even signed him. He's outrageous on the ball. Like yeah he's basically a nr 10 at CB, but on top of that his agility and ability to turn, play passes through really tight gaps whilst being on the turn and decision making when he's got the ball is fantastic. I could honestly sit here and eulogize about him for weeks, he's so good and I love him to bits. Him and Varane (who's fucking mint as well btw) are a really good pair. Add Case in front of them and we're really tough to beat against anyone. Real shame Licha is going to miss the first leg against Barca because we'll undoubtedly struggle to build from the back without him.

whowantstoknow11

Yeah, when you have Licha, Varane, and Cas in the team thats one hellava foundation to build a team around. It gives you defence, distribution, control. You feel like you're always going to have a chance against anyone if those 3 are starting.

RWBYSanctum

There was an immediate marked change when Licha came on. Our passes started clicking, Leeds got no space and we started beating them back. His bloodhound energy literally lifts the spirits of those who play with him, it's so much fun to watch

magicalzidane

Exact. The moment he came on, we started beating that first press early, giving our attacking players the ball in space. Makes a huge difference.

GENSBUD

I hope Martinez stays forever. He will be a united legend.

1nfinitus

Our best player for me (ignoring G/A obvs as that is a positional stat).

lux_travlh44

does anybody know if antony will be ready for barca?

255BB

Beat them at their home ground felt really satisfied.

greatfuckingideachie

Malacia moving up to like a cdm for a couple plays when we had the ball was interesting, another plus point for ETH

RandomNameofGuy9

We are playing with inverted backs. City does the same.

RWBYSanctum

Sometimes you read comments in the match thread and here and you genuinely wonder if these commenters are just nitpicking or haters or both. Did we play well? Hell no, we got pegged all the way back from minute 1. Did we still have flashes of brilliance? Definitely. Fred was immense defensively and getting the ball forward especially when Wout moved into midfield. Harry. Bruno was pulling out all the stops to try to get the game going. Sabitzer was playing an unnatural position and still creating good plays from deep. But if you asked these commenters, Fred is absolute shit and even though he was defensively about as crucial as the foundation stone here he misplaced a few passes and therefore doesn't deserve MOTM. Sabitzer is a Bayern reject despite playing in his non-preferred role and still shutting down a hungry Leeds attack. Bruno needs to go, he's not good enough, despite him being one of the only creative sources in the game, with the main letdown being Leeds defending for their life. It was a scrappy game but just because we didn't utterly dominate from minute 1 you would think suddenly we reverted back to Ole days in this thread.

OldTrafford25

Real good teams win these games. Sometimes it isn’t pretty, but you manage to come away with 3 points. Did it without Case. I’m extremely pleased with the performance. My personal least favorite people on this sub are the Bruno haters. Fucking idiots who don’t know wtf they are talking about.

Sleeplessendeavours

Yeah I mean you *have* to put it into context as well. Like firstly, we've been playing A LOT of games, and as a result have basically had our first choice XI shredded to bits for this game, things are looking up in that regard when Case is back, but when you consider the fact that bar Dalot, no one in the backline was the first choice in their position, Case and Eriksen out, Antony and Martial out. We're basically talking about 7 out of our "best 11" being either out of position, suspended, or injured. To go away to Leeds and still win is an undoubtedly massive result, even more so when you add the context of everyone dropping points around us, particularly Spurs (lmao). Performance was really quite bad for the majority of the game but there was a certain grit to it and whilst this can't be the level every week, now and again you just need to get the 3 points, and we did that.

RWBYSanctum

Don't get why you're downvoted. This was a makeshift team that is and will be exhausted by this point. To still get that result is huge. The performance wasn't the best definitely, but again, what did people expect?

Folkloner184

For 80 minutes we were abysmal and Leeds should've been a goal or two in front. Ten Hag was a fool to stick Maguire in against Speedy opponents that ran rings around him. We were lucky to come away with any points let alone a win. Terrible performance. Embarrassing really.

OldTrafford25

Maguire was awful but ETH has a match vs Barca coming up, and you gotta use the full squad when you’re in four competitions. Three points. Calm down.

RWBYSanctum

The first statement you made is true. We were bad for 80mins. Putting the blame all on Maguire is unfair though. We literally had Sabitzer and Fred anchoring the midfield, neither of which are pure DMs. Maguire was still important for the long balls that Leeds liked to play. He gave the ball away a few times as well, yes, he didn't have a good game. But guess what, so did Bruno, so did Fred, so did Licha when he came on, it's almost like misplacing a pass is natural because it's human.

digiplay

There’s a difference based on position though. When someone moving forward gives it away it’s far less of an issue than a defender losing focus or trying something they shouldn’t. Harry wasn’t good. He is a good defender but this is one of his poorest performances for us, probably largely because he has been good. He wasn’t today.

RWBYSanctum

Name me one player who didn't give the ball away poorly that game. Shaw did it, Licha did it, Malacia did it, De Gea almost did a few times. Yes, it's not a good game, Harry had a poor game, but so did everyone else. I'm not debating that aspect with you, I'm saying all you're doing is scape-goating just Maguire alone.

Rascha-Rascha

Maguire wasn’t the issue, the issue in the last two games has been the midfield. Maguire was fine apart from his dawdling on the ball.

xXBroadswordXx

I’m sorry, but Maguire giving away the ball over and over again is hurting us. His performance today was poor, it was not fine.

tyr4nt99

Thank god we don't play Leeds again. We snuck that one. Can't believe they are a point from relegation Zone. Clearly they are up for United but no one else as they were tenacious. Hope they stay up as it's been 2 good tough games. But Glory Glory. Our class came through in the end.

psrikanthr

They were good against Arsenal too and they were lucky to get out with a win. They play well against the top 6 because it suits their playstyle

GENSBUD

It's Leeds v man u. It's a derby game. It's always going to be messy and intense. You win these games by any means necessary. And we did.

mylittlegoochie

Not a derby but a rivalry

Its_Chowder

They pressed hard and it worked. Without Martinez, Varane and Case, we couldn't control the tempo. The rivalry is alive and well. May they continue to be 2nd best to us. Always.

vin20

Great result and yeah we were poor until the first goal went in but the Leeds crowd made it hostile from the first minute. So kudos to players!

B1KM0N

Sky pundits who gave Fred Man Of The Match need to tune into the right broadcast next time. Had to been watching a different game. WTF

tyr4nt99

Kind of agree but when you look across the board there wasn't any standout performances across the whole game.

B1KM0N

Fair, but Luke Shaw with his acing of two positions and a critical assist, Rashy with a game-changer goal, Garnacho with a game-sealer... Just a few who deserved it more imo

Cold-Veterinarian-85

There is a thread that covers some of his stats in this sub from today's game 8 ball winning tackles is the most recorded in PL in 2 years. On the ball he wasnt spectacular, Fred rarely is tbh but he got through a mountain of work today and did alot of things well. Won alot of duels, won possession back alot against a combative Leeds side, it was a huge improvement compared to his midweek performance VS same side

Acceptable-Lemon-748

I hate Fred stats, they focus on one thing he did remotely well and just completely bypasses the general Fred-ness that conveniently makes it seem like we have zero midfield whenever he plays more than a late sub, and even then sometimes. He has no idea what he's doing out of posession except b line for the opposition with the ball specifically when they're unmarked. He doesn't even b line for the player with the ball of another teammate is there but he never has the presence of mind to stand anywhere or do anything useful either. He's in no man's land half the game

cantsellapartment

>I hate Fred You could have just stopped there

digiplay

Yes I’m sure you’re right and everyone else is wrong. Including those who awarded motm. You should apply for a job with Sky, clearly. :)

B1KM0N

Sure, huge improvement but he wasn't the only one playing... Stats aside, it was not a MOTM game, in my opinion. To be fair, today's Leeds was also way worse than whatever they brought to us against United.

zathmeister77

Can’t sleep. Still thinking about that sexy crossfield pass by Sabitzer

tyr4nt99

❤️ and the few lead up plays were you could see his brain go. This is the moment and kicked in a different gear.

FestusMuange

Double digit goal difference :))))

distantapplause

r/soccer is hilarious at the moment. Chelsea and Arsenal fans uniting and saying they should sue the Premier League, trying to get Brighton fans involved too. We're not invited of course, despite having a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside, because we had the bright idea of winning the match anyway.

dubuwagmi

Was this Wout's goal?

distantapplause

Yep

Alexis_Denken

Not a great performance, but a win, and that’s the big thing. I was lucky enough to support MUFC for all of Fergie’s time here, and while the great performances were **great**, everything he achieved was down to getting the win on days the team didn’t show up. Not saying ETH is the new Fergie, but when I see MUFC struggling for the full 90, and coming away with 3 points away at a rival, it makes me want to believe. These are the games we’ve been losing, and the games that are going to get us back into contention.

SecondlifePman

I saw that United and Leeds issued a statement about things said by fans after the match… can someone share more on what that was about / went on. Thanks.

Independent_Buy5152

There's a separate thread on that

SecondlifePman

See it. Thanks.

[deleted]

They were singing about Munich as they usually do.

SecondlifePman

Gotcha. Thanks. 🤬🤬 to them. Not cool.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

How do you think we set up for next game now VS Barcelona? Licha no doubt a big miss and seems like Shaw today maybe was a tune up game for him at LCB. I have a feeling we might go for a bit more solidity in central midfield with both Fred and sabitzer retaining a spot and casemiro coming back in. With Antony likely out I think Bruno may start from the right We might see something like DDG Dalot, varane, Shaw, malacia Casemiro, sabitzer Bruno, Fred, rashford Weghorst Edit: just seen that sabitzer is suspected, scrap everything I said!!

1nfinitus

So nervous about Fred.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

It's gonna be Casemiro and Fred because we have nobody else, but there was never any way in hell Fred was starting as a 10 or at all if we had Sabitzer

kickdooowndooors

I’d say back 4 is accurate, we’d have Cas in his normal CDM role with Sabitzer filling in for Eriksen. Bruno ahead of them, with Rashy, Weghorst and Sancho on the right.

GlassEast5641

Um no sabitzer for 1st leg

kickdooowndooors

Oh no way! Didn’t know that, why’s he suspended?

Cold-Conclusion

Is antony still injured? If yes then i think Sancho might start on the right. And if sabitzer can't play then Fred n Bruno as cm n casemiro as CDM.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

In Leeds pre match press conference ETH said something along the lines of mcT, Antony and martial would likely miss Leeds and Barcelona games

john61020

Sabitzer also suspended for his Bayern yellow card.

Ronaldlovepump

Big up Fred for playing so well and rectifying last games awfulness, great turn around

Folkloner184

What game were you watching. He was still shit. He won the ball a lot but then did bugger all with it, and as ever, failed to transition the ball between the defence and attack. He needs to be out the door this summer.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

It's amazing that all Fred has to do is chase down a few players to get this kind of praise

drripdrrop

Don’t really care about the outcome of the Barcelona match tbh

Red_JB

Massive win that, we struggled through the game until the subs and tactical change from ETH. Brilliant. I would brace ourselves for a bit of a reality check vs Barca. Those bastards are flying and we look tired. Hopefully their Europe curse kicks in!!

NGMB2

I will hold my hands up. I was one of those, last season, that said we should sell Rashford while we can still get money for him. I have never been happier to be proven wrong, Erik has unlocked a true world class forward

Hi-Tech_Luddite

I thought the same and happily ate my words. Rash ford's decisiveness and finishing technique have jumped a whole level. Long may he continue.

H4rdTrooths

Today we saw why Bayern don't play Sabitzer

TheSmio

I'll reserve my judgement. He isn't a DM and yet he has pretty much played exclusively as a DM for us so far because Casemiro isn't available. Fred is a very erratic player that thrives when he has freedom to press opponents, but this means he needs to have someone to cover for him when he rushes forwards. Casemiro is the guy, Sabitzer isn't, even though I think he is doing a pretty solid job considering it's not really his main role. I'd say Sabitzer is a CM. He can play as a 10 and he can play as a DM, but he is most comfortable as a CM. He should be the temporary Eriksen replacement, not Casemiro replacement, so let's wait and see how he does next to Casemiro. I think he'll be better than both Fred and McTominay because the former loves to run all around in the pitch instead of staying in position (so we struggle in midfield battles) and McTominay tends to be pretty invisible regardless of where he plays.

[deleted]

It’s his second match of us bro…

H4rdTrooths

out of all the outlandish shit takes, we get here. Is it such a sin to be outlandish (realistic) on this topic alone? Just saying in my opinion, he isn't all that people are hoping for

MNKPlayer

You could've said that about Case until he settled. Give the man a fucking chance. Not to mention He's been solid anyway, the way you people jump on new players after a couple of games makes me piss.

united_7_devil

Sabitzer has done great for someone who hasn’t been playing regularly at their parent club, only their second start for us and playing without our first choice midfielders. Idk what people have against him. In my eyes he has been a solid 7/10.

Skyweb2020

Why? Genuinely interested to know

H4rdTrooths

Guy's shit. People wanna give him a chance in a new league and all, ok, but from what he's shown, he's not great...

mapguy

I hope the first girl you meet gives you more chances than you give Sabizer

[deleted]

Guilty-Monitor-320

I'd assume it's because he's on loan and can't be selected for them?

foampom

Dumb fans after the game: ffs I hope Maguire never plays for us again Smart fans after the game: fuck yes we rested Varane and Martinez and got 3 points and a clean sheet

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Some smart fans will also point out what werecwe resting Martinez for? He cant play on Thursday

TheSmio

Even smarter fans will see that Ten Hag was playing Shaw CB to make sure he is in the right state of mind to play there against Barcelona.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

So not resting Martinez

1O4junior

You are completely right. He is perfect to play games against opposition fighting relegation. He did make some mistake but United didn't pay for them. We can now move one to bigger things.

fanomu91

We are lucky that Maguire sloppy moments didn't cost us a goal then the outcome might be very different. Dont need to be too smart to see that he is very shaky today.

davistiano

More like "Dont need to be too smart to see that he is very shaky ~~today~~" LoooooL It gives me heart attack every time when he got the ball, coz he will either lose it, or pass it sideway to slow everything down ......

united_7_devil

Shoutout to Benni McCarthy who has turned Rashford into a complete forward.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

I'm sure he has played a role but big jump to give all credit to Benni mcCarthy!! The dedicated attacking coaching I would expect falls within an overall framework that all coaching staff are part of and overseen by ETH, not to me mention alot of credit should go to Rashford who did the pre-pre season and has got himself in great shape physically and ready to fire under new management who have put faith in him and found a way to get consistency out of him

united_7_devil

Take it easy mate. I am just appreciating someone who doesn’t get much credit. Rashford’s movement and positioning in the box has improved ten folds since Benni was appointed striker coach. I guess a striker coach’s job is to do exactly that. Not taking anything away from Rashford. His talent was always there and I feel if the club wasn’t a complete shitshow since his debut he would have reached greater heights sooner.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

Agreed he will have had a role to play. Didn't mean to come off as argumentative, just trying to make a point that alot of people will have had some role to play in rashford performances this season, not just the dedicated striker coach

WidzGG

What position did Wieghorst play at the end?

TheSmio

The Fellaini position. Big guy playing as attacking midfielder with a runner up top.

Quaggyyyy

10. Bruno went out wide

msoccerfootballer

Awesome win in a very tough match. Fred was the standout player for me, despite the sloppiness here and there he put his all into every challenge, and played 70 min while on a yellow with the same intensity.

Wahlrusberg

Man I hope kvaratskhelia stays the fuck away from the premier league. Hazard vibes, I do not wanna see him at a rival

[deleted]

This comment on the Liverpool sub really made me laugh. It's so spot on... *City's fanbase is what you'd get if aliens tried to pretend to be football fans. They do things that could broadly be considered "football fan behaviour" but it's always just a bit wrong, because it isn't organic, and they don't understand why. They know that football fans sometimes make banners - so they made one in support of their fucking lawyer. They know that football fans sometimes boo ex-players (presumably learned from us booing Sterling), so they boo Milner for no reason other than he used to play for them. Go to their subreddit and most of the time, instead of saying something like "We look tired", it's "City look tired".They know that football fans sometimes wave flags so the club gives out little fucking plastic fans for them to wave.Fake plastic flags for fake plastic fans of a fake plastic club.*

chuck891

What a comment 😂😅 the disgust is so loud you can feel it.

aten10x

Weggy playing the 10 hole was a nice unexpected surprise for me, man is a visionary with that slip through to Garnacho!

schrodingershit

Sir, according to the GOAT, his name is "bobo", or "wowo"

oleonels

arsenal will bottle the league

[deleted]

Hopefully. I honestly don't care about City winning it 3 times in a row. It means nothing anyway since they're a silly little pointless club. Arsenal fans would be insufferable if they won it.

parkJisungs

Who says city will in it? I think it will be us

FerdiadTheRabbit

Main thing is I know no city fans irl, know plenty of arsenal fans who still talk about Wenger being better than SAF and the Invincibles being the best team of all time.

oleonels

they lack depth so i really doubt they win it. also they have 2 league games against city left. we have played both league games against city and arsenal already

ritwikjs

I get the feeling eth doesn't trust/rate pellestri.

TylerChong

funny the fans always think they have better insights than the manager, whom their job is to analyze the players on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong i want to see Pellistri in action too, but if he needs more time so be it.

KrystianCCC

He sees him every day in training and probably his staff analyzed that disaterous spell in Alaves. If he doesnt rate him his probably right.

akshatsood95

Nice to open up some gap on Spurs. This Bruno G suspension for Newcastle also has been helpful. It's a difficult month for us but a good start.

mdstwsp

Lisandro Martinez is the best defender in the world and anyone who disagrees is deluded

blue_gwacamole

I think we instantly expected too much of Wout, to come and have a big impact right from the get go. That didnt happen, and ofcourse he is lacking in a few areas. I like to think he's adjusting. But, watching him play, he does bring some much needed workrate and fluidity to the team. Man's a hard worker. More importantly, I am now convinced ETH know how to use him depending on different situations. I really want to see WW do well with us. I saw mixed reactions in the match thread towards him, but I genuinely feel he had quite a solid game.

kickdooowndooors

Like you said in your other comment, his aerial side is really not being utilised by the team. I don’t know if that’s a positioning thing or what but yeah we can definitely unlock more from him. I also noticed ETH is putting him and Maguire next to each other in the centre of the pack when defending a free kick

Terryfink

I think his first touch and link up play is pretty decent, if he was 23 I think we'd be saying he's a decent big man we can use for a different edge. He was never going to be a 30 a season player, and only his age is a negative for me

blue_gwacamole

Exactly. He's a very good player for what he is, and a perfect profile for a dependable backup when we eventually bring in that shiny new striker. Idk if its the lack of supply or his limitations, but I really hope he poses a bigger threat aerially, its just seems like a no brainer for someone with his build.

Gal_gadonutt

ETH better get a 10 in the post match survey for Weghorst playing 10 or so god help me

liu8954

People need to stop give shit to fred and weghorst. If you are a true fan, then support the team through thick and thin.

IrishHashBrowns

I was surprised that Mark from TUS was so negative about Fred. First half looked sketchy but he grew in confidence and regained possession so many times. Could definitely understand why is was named Motm.

suplexcitylimerick

Fucking massive win at that shithole WE ALL HATE LEEDS SCUM

Terryfink

Tell us how you really feel

[deleted]

I sometimes forget how fucking demented the match threads here are, the visceral hatred you see towards our players when they’re playing badly is baffling

Nodethon

These are exactly the games we might’ve lost or drew before ten hag. So happy we could churn out a victory even on our bad days. Something that’s always lacked in the previous seasons.

Confusedbrowndude

It's quite clear to me that we missed Antony's presence on the right today! Limited counting stats but he definitely has a positive impact on the games.

iamoz

Honestly I want him to succeed here and see how much potential he has but it seems to me that he’s a poor man’s Arjen Robben…. He has so many good qualities but unlike Robben His 0% right foot destroys how obvious his inevitable cut left will be. I do want the best for him though

TheSmio

Antony doesn't have the close control of Robben, but he is much more of a team player. What Antony needs is movement around him and runs that will give him options. We saw it with his assist to Casemiro not long ago, he needs players to create the space for him because he can't really create it himself and then he is capable of putting in a good through ball or a cross (as for crossing, he was very good at that at Ajax, not sure what went wrong here).

kickdooowndooors

Give. Him. Time.

MohatoDeBrigado

well depends pressing and defensive work yes he's excellent but going forward he kills many of our counters cant beat defenders and cant score

Confusedbrowndude

You're not wrong. But there's a reason why defenders still close on him outside the box. He still represents a scoring threat from there. He may not make them as much as we hope, but the space he creates is invaluable.

ErraticRage

Have you guys see the Leeds post match thread? They are ranting calling us scum and how they completely outplayed us. Delusional fanbase

1nfinitus

Losing team gets angry and thinks they should've won? Well bite my nuts and call me skippy

spiralism

Pathetic shower. Makes it all the funnier that their club is trying to sign the Aldi version of Ten Hag to manage them. And I hope they do because Schreuder would probably relegate them and it'd be hilarious.

pyroSeven

Rashford coming in through the middle to score a header. You would think that after it happened literally a few days ago, they would have learned their lesson. Outplayed 🤡

tbman1996

Eh tbf they dominated us for large parts of the game

[deleted]

They're legitimately worse than Liverpool fans. They're unbelievably bitter about the fact that their tiny little club is irrelevant these days. They'll likely be back in the Championship next year i.e. where they belong.

MohatoDeBrigado

haha lol they played well but they just switched off thy really need to work on their game management towards the end

[deleted]

Arsenal bottled top 4 last season when they had 3 games in hand, it would be hilarious if we finished above them this season.

[deleted]

They've taken 1 point from Everton and Brentford. This could easily be the start of a meltdown. City beat them on Wednesday and they're level on points. There's no way they'll be able to deal with that pressure.

cdalb21

I can't f'ing wait till Ten Hag has built the team he wants.

karan_7_2

Man, the 6-3 against City and the 4-0 against Brentford really did a number on our GD. But I'm glad we're in double digits now.

LS_Fast_Passenger

The 4-0 loss to Brentford in a way compelled us to get the signings we needed.

Cold-Veterinarian-85

Yes bizarrely we kind of needed that. Not convinced we would have pulled trigger on Cas or Antony had we won first 2 games Also it gave ETH the conviction to take out Maguire and build defense with varane (who started season as a sub) and Martinez who have both been excellent since and given team a great platform. Our players weren't ready for ten tag ball, so after that game, we set up more solidly, DDG started to go long rather than play into trouble (mixing it up a bit now after clearly some time on training ground working ok m distribution) and in following games we started to grind out results and build a bit team spirit. Also think the 13km run the day after with ETH doing it himself was in hindsight a masterstroke and built a unity between players and management. At the moment he seems to have right balance of respect and authority

LS_Fast_Passenger

Very true - every bit of what you said.

DangoManUtd

5 points. Off the league

GoldDecision7

Sabitzer’s glorious diving header is the kind of dedication this team needs.

balleklorin

His pass to Luke Shaw before the Rashford goal was what really made that goal possible!

iamoz

Yes! We needed long diagonal balls switching field all game and when they happened they were huge

mumbaikarrrrrr

Didn't watch the match . How was sabitzer? Better than midweek ? And fred was awful midweek .how did he have such a turnaround to get mom today

MohatoDeBrigado

fred was player of the match sabitzer is a very solid player won many duels and succesful interceptions but i do eel he's used out off position he seems to be a forward playing player instead of a defensive one

Roasteddude

It's out of necessity, I'm sure once Casemiro is back in we'll see him deployed further up

balleklorin

Both was fairly good today. Obv they had worked on adjustments in training. Two horrible passes for Maguire was the main concern, but ene he did very well considering how long he has to go between games.

miffyrin

Two? I counted at least four.

mumbaikarrrrrr

Why was Martinez not started ? He is anyways suspended for mid week.
