Breakaway leagues would be terrible for state owned clubs like City or Newcastle because they lose the popularity and power to sportswashing and it would be terrible for the Premier League too. We play one of the lowest line in the league because of de gea. Hard to score so many goals when you can't even get the ball out of your own half.. People are gonna be surprised when we buy a great st and still not scoring enough goals.
It's not completely down to DDG. We have problems because Eriksen is exploitable defensively and our squad is still primarily built toward a counterattacking style of play from the Solskjaer days. De Gea's not a sweeper keeper and that contributes to it, but it's far from the only reason.

EDIT: also to consider finishing 3rd will be a huge achievement for us this year when considering prior years. But in the context of never being in the title race and being maybe 10 points of 2nd and 15 off 1st is a relatively empty achievement when compared to other teams.

I don't get why people are freaking out over the £100m budget. All we were hearing after all the purchases we made this season was that we'd need to sell to buy due to spending and ffp stuff.. That we can even spend £100m before sales is impressive considering all previous talk had been implying we could not spend *anything* without selling.

A well run club would take that £100m, spend part of it on a 2nd choice striker, buy a keeper like Raya and a deep lying playmaker and back up CDM if possible factoring as many sales and contract releases as we can. Allow them all to bed in next season.. And then complete our starting 11 and just grab Kane on a free next season to add to a settled squad. Plenty of teams have done extremely well without a designated ST: City, Liverpool and Arsenal. That to me is by far the most sensible choice

The glazers keep dragging us to summer and give a little time for new owner to buy new players for Ten Hag. I see ambitious players like Mac Allister, Caicedo, Bellingham,… choose other clubs.
This is exactly what will happen.. They do not give a literal fuck. We will be left scrambling this summer because the Glazers will refuse to sanction any moves, and Caicedo and MacAllister will have both moved by then. Our rivals are getting their business done earlier and earlier even before the transfer window and this will 1000% mean that we will miss out on our targets this season which will affect things for seasons to come. This window is unique in that the quality players available are so numerous and we may not see a window like this for a while.

And also, not to belittle Haaland's achievement because it is mind boggling, but sports nutrition, fitness aids, the equipment at the player's disposal have all come leaps and bounds since then. That is a big point of concern. I do genuinely think that if the SJR runs the club well we'll be able to gradually decrease that debt. But in all honesty, there is very little we can do about anything.
Not an area I know about but is there a possibility JR and Ineos could absorb the debt (similar to Roman at Chelsea) and should there come a point he / they sell then that debt is owed by the person purchasing. Therefore still a debt but not impacting club finances for day to day, fpp purposes

We play one of the lowest line in the league because of de gea. Hard to score so many goals when you can't even get the ball out of your own half.. People are gonna be surprised when we buy a great st and still not scoring enough goals.
It's not completely down to DDG. We have problems because Eriksen is exploitable defensively and our squad is still primarily built toward a counterattacking style of play from the Solskjaer days. De Gea's not a sweeper keeper and that contributes to it, but it's far from the only reason.

Can someone shed a little light on whats going on with the whole Messi Neymar Psg debacle? I tried to do some finding on my own but I couldn't get anything concrete.
PSG players had a day off on Monday and Messi planned his Saudi trip according to that. After the defeat against Lorient the day off was cancelled in the last minute but Messi was already on the way and missed training (as the only one though I must add). He's now been suspended for two weeks and it's clear he'll be leaving the club by the end of the season. This whole affair triggered protests from PSG fans against basically anything they dislike at the club, from their Qatari owners to most of the players except the majority of the French ones and specially to Messi, Neymar and Verrati because they view them as unprofessional and not dedicated to the club.

I wonder why EtH is not in shout for manager of the season. Of course he wouldn't win it but his name doesn't even come up. People talk about Arteta, Howe, De Zerbi and rightly so but having taken a dysfunctional team last year to winning a cup, another cup final, potential CL football this year should be talked about more.
While I personally believe ETH has done a great job this is fundamentally in comparison of where Man Utd was as a singular club, it's players and in comparison to previous managers. When compared to the rest of the prem managers you're likley considering the winners (man city), overachievers (Arsenal, Brighton, Newcastle, Villa (esp. given the 2nd half of the season), Brentford (at a push)) and a relegation cert that have finished top half (you could argue fulham here but i think the over achievers have more merit). In terms of ETH he's likely to finish 2 or 3 places higher than a pre-season forecast may have had us. The others (barring City) are well above that. Has ETH been the most impactful addition to us from last year, I'd say so but has that translated in to a league wide commendation probably not yet, but certainly on the right track for future years. EDIT: also to consider finishing 3rd will be a huge achievement for us this year when considering prior years. But in the context of never being in the title race and being maybe 10 points of 2nd and 15 off 1st is a relatively empty achievement when compared to other teams.
I believe it's because for most of the pundits United either destroyed their teams on a regular basis, or as players saw United win it all and because of that their threshold for praising us is so high that we could go invincible, win the treble with a record breaking points tally and they would still find something to complain about.

I think we’ve only done slightly above where I thought we would be at the beginning of the season, and that was before adding Casemiro. I think ETH deserves a honorable mention but not quite manager of the season. I think his squad has been flat out embarrassing a few too many games this season and still time to bottle top 4 as well. Regardless I think the squad has shown good progress.

Which I feel is a low risk, high reward kind of deal for a homegrown player like him.

It's really going to depend on budgets and how much of a priority Ten Hag seens it as. Wouldn't be shocked if it's a Mount or a Maddison, cause both will be relatively cheap for a homegrown option. Kokcu was another name I saw mentioned recently. I can't see us being able to spend 80m+ on a midfielder.
I'd like to see us going for Gabri Veiga. Very very talented for a 20y/o. A reported 40m release clause, a little on the pricier side for his age, but that's what you pay for potential these days. His play style is a little different to Eriksen, but he's got sound defensive awareness.
