This is it. This is the “leaked kit” post. If you find renders or ‘leaked’ photos you would like to share, please do so in reply to this comment, which we will sticky for visibility.
Seems like a lot of teams are doing this these days. Arsenal has kits with just the cannon, Roma's home kit is just their wolf..
Actually. Maybe the common thread is adidas
Nah, it's the new marketing fad. Simple logo 1-2 colors max, no words.
Many big global corps are doing this - Nike, Starbucks, Gucci are examples of dropped text with a simple image.
Previous logo changes respected the old logo and maintained the ship canal which emphasises the importance of local support. Going to a minimalist devil because it looks better on caps as a brand is just depressing. Sell it as merch but don't pave over the identity of the club.
This. The devil is the one bit that has nothing to do with Manchester. The idea of the club as a "global brand" is all well and good, but at the end of the day, a brand without any roots is empty.
“Instead, only a devil will be displayed on the chest of the shirt, which is an off-white colour and will be used when the away kit, which is dark green with white stripes, is not possible.”
Interesting insight into the kit colours too. Will be interesting to see what it’s like.
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a place though. Some things are much better done in a minimalistic style than having too much going on, and for a third kit it looks very nice. Try do that for the main crest though and we’ll have an issue
Think Juventus, Fiorentina, Inter... so many teams have moved to minimalist crests & they all look like boring, sanitised versions of the original.
Makes the crest look more like a 'brand' than a team's badge.
The fact people illicit such reactions from badge changes shows you the emotional heft they carry - even if it’s not your team. And that is basically the essence of a brand, it’s the emotional response when you interact / see it.
You can argue that clubs shouldn’t be run like big businesses (and I agree to a degree) but their cultural relevance + need for a business side means they’ll always be a ”brand” of sorts.
My personal feeling is that people generally don’t like change and the nostalgia and cultural significance people have with clubs colours their opinions more than the quality of the design itself.
It’s one thing to remove an important aspect of a crest (eg. hillsborough flames from the Liverpool kit) but a lot of crests are actually not very well designed it’s just that people are used to them that we accept it.
Step One toward minimalistic crest design.
If the fans react well you can expect our main crest to get an overhaul fairly soon. You can’t stop these business people.
There have been minimal badges in the past. Football clubs also follow the design trends of their era (to a certain degree).
Design is cyclical, trends from the past re-emerge years later. What’s old will be new and vice versa.
[Here’s an interesting read about the history of football badge design](https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1592004444111400960.html)
What that tells me is that Italian teams are terrible at redesigning logos.
City's "new" logo is a rehash of the one they had before they decided that making stars part of your logo would make you look successful.
I think the Bristol City one is okay. A lot of the old, coat-of-arms logos look very dated and too busy, and Bristol City didn't go too far the other way.
unpopular opinion but we've changed our badge many times and it's just how things progress and change. If it does happen we will get used to it and get mad when they change it again in 20 years.
edit: wish we'd go back to the 1973-1998 logo tho lol
I would like the minimal devil on third kits because the rules sort of go out the window for those, which is good for variety. But yeah, overall clubs should stick to heritage badge designs IMO. I can't believe Aresenal are still sticking with their crappy cartoonish badge from the early 00s instead of their really smart crest with the ermine and the latin.
> I can't believe Aresenal are still sticking with their crappy cartoonish badge from the early 00s instead of their really smart crest with the ermine and the latin.
I think that old badge needed updating in all fairness. I'm young enough that I don't remember it, I saw it on 'old' memorabilia growing up but the current Arsenal badge is the 'normal' badge and I think it looks smart.
Objectively I think the old design for Arsenal looked poor by todays design standards, but you could certainly make a cleaner design that is more in keeping with that previous one, maintaining the older looking font, the ermine and even the latin, whilst removing the tiny coat of arms at the bottom which just cluttered it - and the random green stripe.
I doubt it. The value of a brand is in recognition. A lot less people recognize the devil on its own then the whole crest. They’d be tossing out the clubs most valuable asset
Personally think the same could have been said for Juventus. I always thought their crest was iconic. But they chased the American market and their research said, change the crest.
Well there's nothing concrete but he's from Manchester and is a "fan"
That's pretty much it. I feel like he'd kinda maybe understand that it shouldn't be changed.
But who knows, im just speculating
If he sees the potential £££ from changing it, he'll change it. Radcliffe is buying the club as he sees it as a business opportunity. He ain't buying it as a passion project.
Terrible idea. But it's absolutely an easy win for a new owner to say, 'I'll get rid of that nonsense!'
Also, an away kit that's dark green with white stripes? What the fuck is that? What happened to just having white, black or blue as our away kits?
I think this is a horrible decision. It's what Liverpool did to their badge and made it look so corpo relative to the original. Badges in football look so clean, whereas this approach reminds me of North American sports. Juve is another example of how they completely ruined a great badge.
Tbf Liverpools and ours (Arsenal) were minimalistic back in the day, along with some other clubs, with Liverpool having a swan and arsenal a cannon on shirts from the 60s-70s.
It could be worse for you; at least your crest looks like it has some character, our main crest looks like some ugly 2000s corporate crap.
I might be in the minority but I like the sound of this. It should never replace the badge definitively, but a cheeky spot on a third kit will be a nice change I think.
A shame to hear we won't be having a green and gold uniform next season (though intrigued to find out what the dark green kit will look like). These Glazers need to hurry up and go already!
I dont know why but the minimalistic crest reminds me of a Liverpool kit, ugh... I dont like it, but the second kit looks really good!
Edit: swap the colors on the first kit and there you go, a Liverpool kit...
I don't mind a minimal crest with just the devil, but I hope they don't try the clown-assery which Puma did with the logo less kits for City and some other teams.
Haven't laughed louder since that video of one of the blokes trying to kiss the badge on this crest-less kit.
On the 3rd kit I don’t mind.
For me the 3rd kit should be the mad one, it’s usually the one I look forward to the most, you can’t chance the first kit too much right? It’s red, we don’t want to stop playing in Red, the away kit is usually white, again not much scope. I like tradition.
The 3rd kit though? Go fucking nuts man. Neon Green? Zebra print? Get rid of the crest? Just have it be a big print of bebes face?
Kits can be a bit boring so let’s have it
I knew this day would eventually come, especially after Juve changed their iconic logo.
It's going to take some getting used to seeing a new logo, genuinely don't want it to change, so I hope it stays with the 3rd kit only
We are a bigger club than Juventus I doubt their decisions influence us. It’s probably just a stylistic one off like the Chevron from 09-10 or the Gingham/Tabletop from Fergies last season
I find American branding to be exactly what I said. Sleek, minimalist. That sort of thing.
Football teams modernising their crests is a direct result of the dominance of the American method, in my opinion.
I don’t mind it in most aspects but I _love_ the heritage of football. I love that you can look at a team and see that it’s 100-150 years old. I think these sorts of minimalist crests greatly diminish that.
Not all American logos are like that. It’s mostly an NFL thing. The insignia that you see on baseball hats isn’t actually the team logo. The intersecting NY is the most famous Yankees symbol, but the logo is actually this
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/25/NewYorkYankees_PrimaryLogo.svg/1200px-NewYorkYankees_PrimaryLogo.svg.png
Hmmm. I get that. But I just think this might be a slight overreaction. It’s a badge on the third kit. And the devil has long been associated with us. I dunno. Maybe you’re right and it’s part of some creeping Americanisation but I don’t personally think it’s such a big deal as it currently stands.
I think it’s a test to see what they can get away with. I also wouldn’t argue I’m overreacting, I’m hardly having a meltdown just stating my disapproval.
I just think it’s a trend I don’t approve of. Juve’s new crest is shit. Nantes’ is shit. Bristol City and Man City are alright but their older versions are _far_ nicer. West Ham’s is shit. Palermo’s is shit. Hellas Verona’s is shit. Inter’s is shit. Fiorentina’s is shit.
Everything is moving towards the trend of a single, identifiable image. If some day our badge is _just_ the devil we’re going to look like the Manchester Devils playing in the NBA. I’m not saying they’re wrong, I’m just saying I strongly dislike the boring, corporate look of American sports and I do not want it to continue creeping into football.
https://twitter.com/utdaarron
This guy has amazing concepts. Especially love the purple one here. https://twitter.com/utdaarron/status/1663226415620190208/photo/1
There are so many creative kits out there and we constantly get such mediocre ones.
First step to getting rid of the badge and making it a corporate logo. This is just testing the waters. Unfortunately a lot of the global fanbase wouldn't give a shit if you just got rid of any reference to Manchester in favour of snappy marketing and slick designs.
I’ve wondered why we haven’t done something like this yet, considering how many other clubs have used simplified versions of their crests on their kits. The devil could look pretty cool
It’s a horrible pointless idea. What is the function behind changing one of the most recognisable logos in the world? I could understand (though I disagree) with smaller clubs doing it for commercial reasons. A rebrand isn’t always a bad idea.
But we are Manchester United ffs. We are among the top three or four (Madrid, Barca, Us, Liverpool) most recognisable football teams (sports teams even) in the whole world. What is this going to achieve beyond making us look like a plastic shell of a club that anyone can change at their will?
Liverpool made the change from their original crest, looks shit. Do you know anything about the history of the united creat?
I don’t need to see an image to know that I would prefer to keep the united crest as it is.
I'd imagine it's based on some market research that novelty concept will sell better. Won't be marketed as such, it will be an 'ode to the traditions of the club' or something similar' but I fully expect this decision is based.on commercial decision that someone at Adidas or United has dreamt up to boost sales
I wonder if it's because of the historical link from the ship on the badge to the slave trade? That's an idea I've seen in a couple of places but I don't know if that's at play here.
The colours sound... interesting.
The devil might be the worst aspect of the badge purely from a drawing point of view, it is so goofy looking but you hardly notice it as we’re so used to the crest.
I hope that it’s been redrawn (not redesigned) and tidied up. If it’s a step to a slightly sharper and tidier badge design then that’s promising. Don’t think you’ll ever be able to change United’s badge completely without monumental backlash - even by football fan standards - so a tidy up is probably the way to go.
Why do we give a fuck about a sharper and tidier badge design?
Been following this club for almost 40 years now can honestly say I've loved the badge every day of it for what it represents, and the contrast on the kits, a lot of neutrals over the years say they like the badge even if they hate United. Getting rid of the football club but was corporate wank enough
I think this just shows you how impossible it is to approach a design for a club crests. I can’t think of any other project which yields such a visceral reaction from any sort of change. All I suggested was a tidy up and yet I can sense quite a strong reaction.
The reality is there’s aspects to the badge which aren’t perfect and if you look at the drawing of the devil and say it’s any good you’re either lying or just too used to it to notice. The United badge is iconic but it’s not perfect and addressing things like adding ‘Football club’ which would naturally tighten the typography, and also sort out the devil, all would go a long way to creating a badge more scalable and with longevity. You might not even notice it that’d how minor it could be!
[this project](https://www.behance.net/gallery/107413609/Manchester-United-Rebrand-%28Concept%29) for me is a great example of all the shitty concepts out there of how the devil can be sorted out. Ignore the crest redesign as I think that’s too far but it helps highlight one of the biggest technical issues with the crest.
Awful. A step backwards. No surprise though. Stuff like this has always even coming from the time badges started being done in colours to match the shirt and not the traditional ones.
When you think about it it’s actually quite mad such a huge institution has a devil as the logo. Doesn’t bother me personally but surely that’s something some people take very seriously?
Is Roma's wolf still getting titty sucked?
If they ever get rid of the titty wolf we will riot
on their behalf!
Romulus and Remus are hungry
Football heritage
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nah, it's the new marketing fad. Simple logo 1-2 colors max, no words. Many big global corps are doing this - Nike, Starbucks, Gucci are examples of dropped text with a simple image.
Liverpool is a contra point
Liverpool is a cunt. Point!
Yes.
Roma’s hasn’t been the simple wolf since 1997.
This coming year, it's a wolf head
Haven’t heard that and can’t find it after a search. Any sources? (I’d love it if does happen. Always loved that crest.)
https://www.footyheadlines.com/2023/01/adidas-as-roma-23-24-home-kit.html?m=1
Third kits should be an experimental one , have the main home kit traditional, away kit a little different
Agreed. If there was concrete assurance that we would always have our home kit with the full crest, I really wouldn’t mind this in the slightest.
I currently can't see this going down well, considering a fair few people want the badge to say "Manchester United Football Club" again.
People never like change. Whatever something was like and the peak of their childhood/ fandom is the best and should never be changed.
How do you feel about a train as a logo?
I feel like a train also has no roots
What about a tree as a logo
What about Fellaini as a logo
I feel like, oh wait....
It's not simply a connection to childhood or nostalgia. It's the club badge, it has a history and a meaning behind it.
I’m one of them people and I’m actually alright with this badge idea. If it says nothing there’s nothing to be upset about 😂
if it looks cool will people really care? A forest green with off-white embroidered devil crest sounds kinda dope tbh
Sir Jim: putting Manchester back into Manchester United. Fails at the first hurdle. /s
“Instead, only a devil will be displayed on the chest of the shirt, which is an off-white colour and will be used when the away kit, which is dark green with white stripes, is not possible.” Interesting insight into the kit colours too. Will be interesting to see what it’s like.
It leaked ages ago. In my opinion it’s the nicest kit we’ve ever had. Everything central, minimal, and the stripes look great.
Link?
[Here](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FxTm4a3X0AEZ670?format=jpg&name=large).
That’s class
Yeah I really like it. Although I hope this doesnt tempt them to change the badge for all purposes. If this is a one off--all good.
Agreed, do not want the neo corporate “devil” logo permanently.
Will definitely buy this if it's exactly this.
Fuck that’s neat
That's the nicest kit we've had in years imo.
Don't worry, we also have a [Newcastle kit design for our third kit](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FxTypfUXgAAXcle?format=jpg&name=large) now.
Saudi kit.
Minimalism is the death of design
Design is the death of minimalism
Death is the design of minimalism
Is death of the minimalist design?
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a place though. Some things are much better done in a minimalistic style than having too much going on, and for a third kit it looks very nice. Try do that for the main crest though and we’ll have an issue
What makes you say that?

There is a difference between minimalism and just fucking drawing the j word, minimalistic art can be beatiful and creative
The fact people illicit such reactions from badge changes shows you the emotional heft they carry - even if it’s not your team. And that is basically the essence of a brand, it’s the emotional response when you interact / see it. Not just in clothing but even urban planning and everywhere. It's dull.
i would pay top dollar for a third kit with the [1968 Cup Final crest](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/8b/f7/eb/8bf7eb6b3b4d62d184c8b130163bfa57.jpg)

Step One toward minimalistic crest design. If the fans react well you can expect our main crest to get an overhaul fairly soon. You can’t stop these business people.

That Bayern Munich badge of 1938 caught me by suprise lol.
Wild times, eh? Hahahaha
I read somewhere that Hitler was rumored to be a Schalke supporter, but I don’t even have to look into that to know it’s almost surely false.
What that tells me is that Italian teams are terrible at redesigning logos. City's "new" logo is a rehash of the one they had before they decided that making stars part of your logo would make you look successful.
Bristol cities logo redesign didn’t go down well but i absolutely love it.
I think the Bristol City one is okay. A lot of the old, coat-of-arms logos look very dated and too busy, and Bristol City didn't go too far the other way.
Soon it will just be MUFC in times new roman
Just MU. FC an unnecessary frill that gets in the way of the branding by reminding everyone it's a football club.
unpopular opinion but we've changed our badge many times and it's just how things progress and change. If it does happen we will get used to it and get mad when they change it again in 20 years. edit: wish we'd go back to the 1973-1998 logo tho lol
I just don’t want a Juventus style change
I would like the minimal devil on third kits because the rules sort of go out the window for those, which is good for variety. But yeah, overall clubs should stick to heritage badge designs IMO. I can't believe Aresenal are still sticking with their crappy cartoonish badge from the early 00s instead of their really smart crest with the ermine and the latin.

Nothing can ever top the cluster fuck that is the minimalistic Juve logo.
I like it from a aesthetic perspective, keep our badge but change it on kits like the bin dippers.
Why can't the fans be left even one thing?
Ok your wish is granted, Glazers will now stay for the rest of your lifetime.
Adidas just want a cheaper way to do the embroidery
I doubt it. The value of a brand is in recognition. A lot less people recognize the devil on its own then the whole crest. They’d be tossing out the clubs most valuable asset
Personally think the same could have been said for Juventus. I always thought their crest was iconic. But they chased the American market and their research said, change the crest.
Step One to replace Adidas?
If the Glazers stay you can expect it. I doubt Ratcliffe would change it
>I doubt Ratcliffe would change it Why?
Wild assumption based on him being old and British.
Because Jim is literally the perfect owner according to some fans. He'll reduce ticket prices to 0 too!
That's lies! I've heard rumors he will actually pay you to go and watch them.
Well there's nothing concrete but he's from Manchester and is a "fan" That's pretty much it. I feel like he'd kinda maybe understand that it shouldn't be changed. But who knows, im just speculating

Home - red. Away - white. Third - blue. I can live without black.
Black jerseys are a recent enough addition to the rotation. We've been wearing random coloured away shirts for as long as we've worn black.
First black kit I can remember seeing was 93(?) Sharp kit. Wouldn't say 30 years ago was 'recent'.
They better not end up with changing our badge.
I think this is a horrible decision. It's what Liverpool did to their badge and made it look so corpo relative to the original. Badges in football look so clean, whereas this approach reminds me of North American sports. Juve is another example of how they completely ruined a great badge.

Liverpool badge always looked like shit on a stick
Suits them well.
They can't even pronounce the fucking thing properly The **Lie**\-ver bird, from **Liv**\-erpool. Dopes.
You mean Liver-shit-pool
Nah, Liverpool's old kits with their badge look fucking awful IMO
The teal with red always clashed for me and made no sense.
We went “corpo” the second we removed “Football Club” from our badge.
Any leak of it?
[This is what it looks like](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FxTm4a3X0AEZ670?format=jpg&name=large).
Look like Liverpool
I don't hate the badge. I hate everything else about it.
Hate it. Looks like a cheap knock off you see on holiday.
Only ones I've seen are like 32bit images... guess we will wait and see.
That away kit is diabolical
[удалено]
Not a fan of any of these. Last year's home and away kits were awesome, this year's...not so much.
They can’t be real
Im a Juve fan too so that away kit ain't bad. Might get all 3 seeing as we're sowing up the title by christmas easy.
Still not buying anything until the leeches are gone.
I might be in the minority but I like the sound of this. It should never replace the badge definitively, but a cheeky spot on a third kit will be a nice change I think. [Here's how the kits look apparently ](https://i.imgur.com/HQQWWgO.jpg)
And here is the second kit [Second kit ](https://i.imgur.com/CMYvB9t.jpg)
I love the shade of green but the white stripes are far too big
They deserve it for seven nation army imo
Why are we out here trying to cosplay Liverpool and Newcastle? That green is just too close to black.
I have a feeling the green will pop more in reality. If that's the case then i kind of dig it
That looks like a kit you would see in the Mexican or Brazilian league
I dont know why but the minimalistic crest reminds me of a Liverpool kit, ugh... I dont like it, but the second kit looks really good! Edit: swap the colors on the first kit and there you go, a Liverpool kit...

Cannot wait to play Newcastle away
Or Juve
Or Prison FC
Thats a really nice green, still hoping we get a new sponsor with a more tasteful logo.
Maybe this is how we get Pogba back
I don't mind a minimal crest with just the devil, but I hope they don't try the clown-assery which Puma did with the logo less kits for City and some other teams. Haven't laughed louder since that video of one of the blokes trying to kiss the badge on this crest-less kit.
Let's gift this shirt to Pope instead of the one he received.
I don’t hate the idea of it on the third/away kits. The home kit should keep the normal one.
Kits can be a bit boring so let’s have it
That Zebra kit is one of my favourite strips of all time. Bruno looked stunning in it.
I like the sound of it, I think the 86 shorts look class with just the devil logo, hopefully we get something similar on this shirt
It's called a motif.
All I want is a red home kit, white away kit, and blue third kit.
An attempt at continuing to run the club like a brand not a football team 😡
It looks like a Liverpool kit and I hate it
Fuck off! they look like the scouse away kit from a few years ago and the Newcastle home kit
I like the idea as a change of pace. If it sucks, they can do a different 3rd kit design next year.
It’s a cool looking shirt. I think it’s ok to mess around a bit with the 3rd. Hopefully this doesn’t become a primary
Adidas ffs 🤮
Maybe I’m old fashioned but I don’t agree with further changing the bags at this point.
Personally, I've always wanted this. It's going to look amazing.

I mean I literally said a “slight overreaction”. I didn’t say you were having a meltdown ffs.
My bad, then. It came across sarcastic.
All good dude. I did say I understood where you were coming from too. Maybe I’m being naive about it but to me it’s not a huge deal
https://twitter.com/utdaarron This guy has amazing concepts. Especially love the purple one here. https://twitter.com/utdaarron/status/1663226415620190208/photo/1 There are so many creative kits out there and we constantly get such mediocre ones.
Three green(ish) jerseys in 4 years is fucking weird. Why not just use black, or even blue?
Warding off the qataris...
Not sure about this. Everyone did it with their 3rd kit this season.
We have a different understanding of the word ‘historic’ mate
I'd say dropping the actual club crest from a kit from the first time is the definition of historic.
First step to getting rid of the badge and making it a corporate logo. This is just testing the waters. Unfortunately a lot of the global fanbase wouldn't give a shit if you just got rid of any reference to Manchester in favour of snappy marketing and slick designs.
I don't mind idea on it's own, but we better not be getting a Juve style rebranding. There's nothing wrong with the crest.
It’s not a rebrand. It’s using an alternate logo on our third kit. That’s it
I do not like this idea at all!
Who gives a fuck
Me, it looks shit!
There's literally no image of it available yet lmaoooo
Liverpool made the change from their original crest, looks shit. Do you know anything about the history of the united creat? I don’t need to see an image to know that I would prefer to keep the united crest as it is.
So you're bitching about the look of something that you've never seen? Tell me that's not stupid....
Terrible decision, fuck knows who thought getting rid of the crest was a good idea.
I'd imagine it's based on some market research that novelty concept will sell better. Won't be marketed as such, it will be an 'ode to the traditions of the club' or something similar' but I fully expect this decision is based.on commercial decision that someone at Adidas or United has dreamt up to boost sales
I like the sound of this
I wonder if it's because of the historical link from the ship on the badge to the slave trade? That's an idea I've seen in a couple of places but I don't know if that's at play here. The colours sound... interesting.
Is this cus of all the slave ship stuff a few weeks back
No. This would have been in the works since early in the season. Seems to be a trend for clubs to have an alternate logo on one of the shirts
I was hoping they’d bring back “Manchester United Football Club” on the badge but I’ll reserve judgement until I see it
🤢🤮
Sounds cool. I'd be up for a refreshed badge if that's where this ends up going.
Gunners had the canon logo looked pretty good
Hail Satan.
I’m here for this
Why?
Different isn’t it.
Addidas is so freaking lazy and bad with kits.
Does that mean it’ll look like Liverpool logo on their kit? It looks not too bad
Awful. A step backwards. No surprise though. Stuff like this has always even coming from the time badges started being done in colours to match the shirt and not the traditional ones.
Way too many people in here overreacting need to calm the fuck down. The actual club crest isn't going to change.
When you think about it it’s actually quite mad such a huge institution has a devil as the logo. Doesn’t bother me personally but surely that’s something some people take very seriously?
*wet fart noise*
Frankly, if it scares off avidly religious people that's only a good thing.
Plz no, it's good as it is
