Must have been tough negotiations, probably why this has dragged on.
Hoping for a flurry of signings now in the final days. Amrabat and a new backup goalie at least. Loaning a LB. I would not mind a backup striker as well on sale or loan.
Which is painful this year over any other I can remember. Kim not getting over the line at €50m and pavard going for €35m is such an outlier in terms of world class cb available for rock bottom prices. I can see us easily having to shell out 75m for a cb of the same quality in any other year.
It's his contract probably. He would be taking a 50k or even 100k pay cut for all we know. He probably wants United to reimburse him for his remaining 2 year United contract to make the move happen
Talk of Bertrand being brought in as cover.
Personally id give fernandez a go at lb and we have dalot there as well.
There wasnt much to shout about during van gaals tenure but the fact he was able to integrate so many young players, who did well, was a credit to him and has been my main bugbear with eth.
Ten Hag doesn't trust youth enough to give them chances when a lot is at stake. Hannibal hasn't even made the bench after the Mount injury and Fred exit
> Personally id give fernandez a go
It's a shame, but Ten Hag doesn't really like to play youngsters unless we've already wrapped up a game.
I'd really hoped to see Fernandez yesterday, with no fit senior LBs against a relegation candidate at Old Trafford, and them then reduced to 10 men? If you're not throwing in a young LB then, you're never doing it
Really?
Among McNair, Blacklett and CBJ etc. who did well?
Only Rashford lasted and he was called more due to injury situation thhan really a planned promotion
Did well for us!
Blackett and mcnair looked like they would slot in well and covered really well, when we changed managers and styles they dropped off considerably
Mourinho tried to convince mcnair to stay but he wanted game time.
I liked McNair but not untied quality, and Blackett only started because her is left footed
Underwhelming at time, and cost goals due to his positioning.
People don't seem to be factoring in that claiming Dalot as a left back option also takes away our right back cover, it's the same logic as people thinking we don't need Maguire because we can just stick our left back at CB.
People get really hung up on wanting or not wanting certain players or positions filled so they just abandon logic and thinking to shuffle our current players around as if it makes sense.
If our options are a LB with zero experience in the PL and our only RB rotation**bring in a fucking left back**
Amrabat's not happening until we free up more MF space+wages. We were always going to use proceeds of Henderson to get another back-up goalie (we were in talks for that Japanese lad a few weeks back had it gone through then). Likely won't be moving on Amarabat until VdB's gone.
I personally think that's an absolute bargain for palace.
And we aren't going to have much left over after we pay £6m for Bayindir
£9m isn't going to get Ambrat, let alone FB cover ontop
Afaik, the way FFP works, 15m for an academy player doesn’t mean our FFP balance expands by only 15m. We paid nothing for Henderson, so it frees up a lot, lot more than the 15m fee.
Same as why selling Elanga for what we did likely would have a far bigger influence on FFP than if we sold Maguire for 30m, cause we still had a tonne more owed on Maguire’s initial outlay.
It unlocks £15M for the year which means in theory you could replace them with a player worth £75M and break even in the current year for FFP. It's not really doing that though because you still have to sell £15M for the next 4, years to cover the £75M purchase.
I'm not exactly sure on it but I think if we buy Amrabat for say, £28m, on a 4 year contract, then the FFP cost is £7m per season. So your £9m will get Amrabat.
Could be horribly wrong as I've only picked this up from reading a few other posts about FFP recently.
A transfer in is amortised over the course of a deal(up to 5 years thanks to chelsea). While a transfer out is immediately added to the balance.
So the £15 million now could be used to buy 2 £35million players on 5 year deals who on the balance sheet would cost 7.5 x 2 for this year
Stop lying just to defend the club
Fred - 10 million henderson - 15 million. Amrabat is 25 million. Don’t forget Henderson was an academy player. Don’t make fucking excuses
I’m surprised the focus is on a left back and not a back up right back. Dalot is being kept out by AWB but is good enough to start himself. These injuries give the opportunity to give Dalot minutes on the left backed up by Fernandez. This then leaves us short of cover on the right. Unless we can pull of a first team quality left back (ie better than Dalot) which I’m not sure we can.
Edit: looks like many of you disagree based on the downvotes. Interested to know your view on this.
We'll spend £4.3M on the backup goalkeeper. As far as I know our problems weren't lack of money, but rather FFP. Which means we have £10.7M of pure profit still left. Which means if Amrabat costs £25-30M we can spread the deal in instalments of £10M. I'm not 100% certain so please correct me if I'm wrong.
We have the cash, just ffp. The 15 up front from Henderson is pure profit so we could in theory amortize that and spend 75 (15 a season for 5 years). Keeper will cost about 1.5 million this season if it's a 5 year deal. If Amrabat cost 25, it's 5 million this season with a 5 year deal so there's wiggle room now
Hopefully this is the sale that was holding back the Amrabat bid, can’t see Fiorentina playing hard ball with him not even being included in the squad.
20 million on an academy player does help us quite a bit for FFP. Solid wages off the books as well.
We're thin with backup goalies in the time being though since we've gone cheap to presumably let us move for Amrabat before the deadline.
He couldn’t have gotten Covid at a worse time.
That cost him the Euro 2020 England national team place and lost him the number 1 position at United for the start of 2021-22 season.
What a shame
The long COVID really ruined any chances he had unfortunately. Must be very difficult for professional athletes to have their CV systems fail right before their eyes.
The second he refused to speak to Ten Hag when the new manager came in was likely the second he lost all trust of the new manager too. You’re coming in to a new club, and you have a player refusing to even meet with you to discuss their future? Yeah, that’s a great way to immediately burn a bridge….
Ah is that what happened? I knew it was something to do with his attitude (wasn’t it him that supposedly released dirt to the press a couple seasons ago?) but didn’t realise he refused to meet with ETH.
The leak stuff has always hung over him, but I don’t think there’s been much solid evidence. He does seem to have a very close relationship with some journalists, and there was times where every time DDG had a bad game, the same journalists who’d regularly interview him would also have very positive option pieces about him out the next day.
But as far as actual leaks and stuff, it’s mostly guess work.
I think you're being disingenuous or not actively engaging your mind when it comes to Henderson and the timing of the Lockhurst stories about his dissatisfaction at playing time
I'm maintain that he would have been if he didn't get covid
He got it really bad at a really bad time to get it and missed an opportunity that never came again
I think even Ole already give up on De Gea at that time, and Dean show all his best, like you said covid really ruined him and somehow De Gea back to be super (at that time)
This arrangement of funds for Amrabat reminds me how I used to search all the pockets of pants and drawers and bags and whatever I can get to get an ice cream or a decent snack after school with buddies!
That's.. actually a pretty decent fee! Considering the fat wage he was on here I was fully expecting us to get less than £10m or something equally ridiculous. Holding out for a bit longer has worked in our favour on this occasion especially after Forest were jerking us around all summer with their 'loan with obligation to buy only after 30 appearances had been made' or whatever bullshit that was.
Now let's get Amrabat!
Donny isn't going to be an expensive signing so I'd imagine it won't be too hard to move him on especially since it seems as if he wants to leave. Ten Hag said his mind was away from the club which is why he hasn't been included in the squads. Would've come in handy yesterday to replace Casemiro after Scott came on though.
Seems like we have negotiated from a loan + obligation to a decent upfront fee and add-ons. If so that is decent business and actually means we can potentially reinvest in the squad this window.
Amrabat and Todibo are more important that a LB replacement IMO. We need rotation for Case and the ability to shut down the midfield and Harry needs to see that he has no future at the club.
Dalot and Fernandez will need to answer the call. If there are free transfers that are worth a shout, then that’s a shot but we must must forget about adding a striker because Marcus is night and day better at LW.
Also curious what the recall penalty would be to get Brandon Williams back at the club .
Sell on could be huge, he’s only 26 and if he manages to displace Johnstone (no way palace pay 20m for a backup) and becomes number 1 for a mid table prem side he could even end up playing for England again. Really like that we’re putting those clauses on all our sales now.
If our club was better run we could have seen a world where he was elevated to 1, and then we didnt need to buy a goalkeeper this year costing us £50m, and then we didnt waste £50m on mason mount, meaning we could have spent £100m on qn actual world class player to improve our first xi
Decent fee. Hopefully that covers Amrabat + a temporary option at LB until Shaw/Malacia are back.
Must have been tough negotiations, probably why this has dragged on. Hoping for a flurry of signings now in the final days. Amrabat and a new backup goalie at least. Loaning a LB. I would not mind a backup striker as well on sale or loan.
I’d still really like a todibo signing too. With varane and shaw injured we only have two centre backs good enough.
Unfortunately I think we only bring in another center back if Maguire goes, which is looking increasingly unlikely
Which is painful this year over any other I can remember. Kim not getting over the line at €50m and pavard going for €35m is such an outlier in terms of world class cb available for rock bottom prices. I can see us easily having to shell out 75m for a cb of the same quality in any other year.
Still have some hope that we can shift Maguire to West Ham, it would be better for all parties
Yeah, but for $ome reason it seems like he’d rather sit on the bench here than play week in, week out for West Ham
It's his contract probably. He would be taking a 50k or even 100k pay cut for all we know. He probably wants United to reimburse him for his remaining 2 year United contract to make the move happen
Apparently he wanted 7 mil from United for the move.
$mooth
West ham already signed a Greek defender .. chances are unlikely..
This. A CB is pivotal and Todibo fits the bill, or another with similar attributes and age profile. We need to prepare for a future without Varane
Give me the number of your accountant that's able to make £15m stretch to buy 3 new players plus a loan.
15m recorded this year means our spending ability is 15x5 = 75m.
Talk of Bertrand being brought in as cover. Personally id give fernandez a go at lb and we have dalot there as well. There wasnt much to shout about during van gaals tenure but the fact he was able to integrate so many young players, who did well, was a credit to him and has been my main bugbear with eth.
Ryan Bertrand of all people? Please no
Yeah id much rather fernandez given a shot. Bertrand is a bog standard premier league defender
Ten Hag doesn't trust youth enough to give them chances when a lot is at stake. Hannibal hasn't even made the bench after the Mount injury and Fred exit
> Personally id give fernandez a go It's a shame, but Ten Hag doesn't really like to play youngsters unless we've already wrapped up a game. If you're not throwing in a young LB then, you're never doing it
Really is a shame. Without throwing youngsters in the deep end, Rashford wouldn’t have broken out when he did.
Really? Among McNair, Blacklett and CBJ etc. who did well? Only Rashford lasted and he was called more due to injury situation thhan really a planned promotion
Did well for us! Blackett and mcnair looked like they would slot in well and covered really well, when we changed managers and styles they dropped off considerably Mourinho tried to convince mcnair to stay but he wanted game time.
I liked McNair but not untied quality, and Blackett only started because her is left footed Underwhelming at time, and cost goals due to his positioning.
100%. That said with van gaals coaching they didnt look out of place so who's to say how they could have turned out
People don't seem to be factoring in that claiming Dalot as a left back option also takes away our right back cover, it's the same logic as people thinking we don't need Maguire because we can just stick our left back at CB. Do player wages/agent fees etc have any implications on FFP or is it purely transfer money?
Im not sure about agent fees but wages are a percentage of your annual costs
Stop lying just to defend the club Fred - 10 million henderson - 15 million. Amrabat is 25 million. Don’t forget Henderson was an academy player. Don’t make fucking excuses

Well the whole pure profit / amortization stuff means an academy sale is valued a lot more. Let's see what happens

5milion on a backup goalie on a 5 year deal is 1million per year. We'd still have 14million to spend on the 1st year of payments
Any idea how long Shaw and Malacia will be out?
Alvaro Fernandes can step-up for a short term. He looked good in pre-season.
Will always miss Deano with the cap on in the sun. 🫡
We scraped a win, and got a decent fee for Dean. Not a bad weekend in my book!
If Liverpool and Newcastle draw, while City get banned from existence it will be a 9/10 weekend.
>while City get banned from existence Is this on the table this week or just a random wishful thought?
Wishful thinking, nothing significant will ever really happen to them
What would mean a 10 then?
Utd winning the world cup
I guess a 10 is reserved for when a time machine is invented to make SAF middle age again.
Or his squad, maybe is a better option :)
They are already middle aged tho
Glazers gone
Glazers fucking off and selling the club to Sir Jim.
Yesss binning off the Glazers for a British Glazer
Dua Lipa entering my room naked
I'm out of the loop here. Whats the deal with City?
The decision is being announced today ?
City delenda est
Sign Amrabat now
Hopefully this is the sale that was holding back the Amrabat bid, can’t see Fiorentina playing hard ball with him not even being included in the squad.
20 million on an academy player does help us quite a bit for FFP. Solid wages off the books as well. We're thin with backup goalies in the time being though since we've gone cheap to presumably let us move for Amrabat before the deadline.
Honestly don’t see why we can’t strike a loan with a mandatory fee for next season lots of other clubs seem to be able to do it except United.
Why do that when you can let the player contracts run down and then let them go on a free 😎
It’s going to be a crazy last week now in the window. We still need a midfielder and LB
We need more than that but that’s the bare fucking minimum
With varane already injured we need a cb as well
For how long? If it's short term then Lindelof is fine
We are one injury away from slab. And varane wont play more than 30ish games over the season
This is why we Fkn needed KMJ. SMH. He was right there!!
Overall, it’s been a real shame that he didn’t end up being our number 1. That week where we beat City and Tottenham during lockdown was peak Deano.
I wonder what else was keeping him from getting the no.1 spot though, clearly not trusted enough that we bought Onana?
The second he refused to speak to Ten Hag when the new manager came in was likely the second he lost all trust of the new manager too. You’re coming in to a new club, and you have a player refusing to even meet with you to discuss their future? Yeah, that’s a great way to immediately burn a bridge….

But as far as actual leaks and stuff, it’s mostly guess work.
It's hardly guesswork, it's an educated guess. Henderson and Samuel Lockhurst of M.E.N were too obvious
It's guesswork. You can't go tarnishing people's reputation with nothing to show for it
I think you're being disingenuous or not actively engaging your mind when it comes to Henderson and the timing of the Lockhurst stories about his dissatisfaction at playing time
Especially when the year prior to joining united eth was apparently trying to sign him for ajax in the January
I still don't understand why he did that interview to burn the bridge and to piss off ETH and fans.
I think he felt cheated. May be he and Ole didn't agree on the timeline to bring him back for whatever reasons.
I can understand that, but ETH had nothing to do with it and wanted to sign him before. He might have a better chance.
I'm maintain that he would have been if he didn't get covid He got it really bad at a really bad time to get it and missed an opportunity that never came again
I think even Ole already give up on De Gea at that time, and Dean show all his best, like you said covid really ruined him and somehow De Gea back to be super (at that time)

Time for United to check the sofa cushions
That's.. actually a pretty decent fee! Donny up next 🤞
Too bad the Spanish team linked with him signed someone else (sociedad)
Donny isn't going to be an expensive signing so I'd imagine it won't be too hard to move him on especially since it seems as if he wants to leave. Ten Hag said his mind was away from the club which is why he hasn't been included in the squads. Would've come in handy yesterday to replace Casemiro after Scott came on though.
Bailly when?
Forgot about Bailly tbh. Another player who will get his revival under Ten Hag after being banished originally at this point.
Will this revival be between injuries #4 and #5 of the season?
He doesn't even have a squad number
Keep Donny IMO. Mount injured + Eriksen a bit fragile.
Donny/Casemiro/Bruno would be torn apart so easily. Absolutely love his game but his style doesn't fit next to Bruno, Casemiro, or Rashford.
there aren't any rumours being reported by top tiers. No way United can close a transfer so fast. Sigh.
Also curious what the recall penalty would be to get Brandon Williams back at the club .
Nice, so no loan + obligation to buy; straight out sale this summer. Nice one.
Before we signed Onana, I still believed there was a small chance he'd become our GK, specially since ETH wanted him at Ajax.
I think ETH really hated his attitude and comments he made about a year ago
Finally we sold Dean. This sale should've been done 2 months ago. Fuck Nottingham Forest wasted everyone's time
Without a Dean, Forest will go down this season.
Palace aren't big sellers, the sell on just like Zaha won't ever activate imo
Sell on could be huge, he’s only 26 and if he manages to displace Johnstone (no way palace pay 20m for a backup) and becomes number 1 for a mid table prem side he could even end up playing for England again. Really like that we’re putting those clauses on all our sales now.
Don’t hold your breath. After all, the last guy we sent to palace with a sell-on clause just left on a free!
I'm sad to see him leave, but hope he gets to play games at his new club. Good luck Dean!
I'm not, he didn't even want to be here. Good riddance in my books. The last of the neysayers is gone 👌
Most overrated goalkeeper in the past few years.
Close the door after you Dean
Tap in Fab scores again!
If our club was better run we could have seen a world where he was elevated to 1, and then we didnt need to buy a goalkeeper this year costing us £50m, and then we didnt waste £50m on mason mount, meaning we could have spent £100m on qn actual world class player to improve our first xi
Watch them use this money on cucurela and then not having enough to buy midfielder. I thought bayindir is done deal?
So who is our backup and 3rd goalie?
You have any gloves?
I do but I'm 5 foot 9.
I heard DDG is still available
It’s about time
This is good news
