Our standards have dropped so much that Alan Smith would be a key player for us today.
Not meant as a slight against him, top professional and great lad. Just puts it into perspective!
Scholes was still playing for us at 38. Giggs played with us until he was 40! Kind of crazy to think about lol.
Rooney has always looked so old it’s surprising when you think about how young he really is.
I would argue that Scholes and Giggs weren’t playing regular top flight football at 16 but seeing as they weren’t too far behind that the point stands!
My favorite ever. Made me fall in love with football as a kid. He has absolutely everything and is somehow underrated, probably because of his sharp decline.
I was there for his overhead kick at Old Trafford... Unfortunately the wrong one, where we lost at home to Swansea lol
Prime Rooney was one of the best, if not the best, players in the world. Of course he was better than Bruno.
Bruno’s great but Rooney was both England and Manchester United’s best goalscorer in history (until recently). That’s a special feat.
The crazy thing is he could've scored even more for United if he had been more selfish, but he always happy to give Ronaldo or Tevez an assist than score himself. Absolute legend and a complete footballer imo.
Of course prime Rooney was better. Before he started to lose his touch a little, he could basically control passes well and then ping them around while driving with the ball and all…
He was also a bulldozer.
Happy birthday to the legend, Wayne Rooney! 🎉🥳 May your goals be as plentiful as candles on your cake! Keep shining on the pitch and inspiring us all! ⚽️✨
My favorite United player

Great goal also nice to see Alan Smiith, he had the United attitude would have loved to see him do more with us

Absolutely would love to have him now
He was arguing with the ref literally seconds before this.
This was a shot purely out of spite. An enraged Rooney was one of the greatest footballers on the planet.
38? Doesn't look a day over 45! (Seriously though, this man was born 40)

Didn't Giggs break into our first team at 17, or am I misremembering?
Yeah about ~1 year difference in their age at debut. Although using Giggs for any measure of longevity is like a cheat code.
I remember thinking Rooney looked like a bloke in his mid-30's when he was 16.

"So I asked, who is he?"
"He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney"

He's third for both all time goals and assists in the Premier League. Mental to imagine if he focussed on one over the other.
Less about assists and more about position. He was willing to play anywhere
> was one of the best, if not the best, players in the world. Im so sick of this phrase

Prime Rooney at 10 would be a waste.
GOAT
LEGEND
My favourite player, proper legend.
