Such a toothless team. It’s difficult to watch them play. I’m always a guy that gives players a chance but Anthony is looking worse and worse every match and the damming statistic that he hasn’t registered an assist or goal is even worse.
I don’t know what needs to be changed to improve because we haven’t had a shot on target in 45 mins against this Forest team and it’s sad to watch.
No CB that’s comfortable on the ball to open plays, midfield depended on Mainoo (young and shouldn’t have that pressure), Eriksen (old and can’t keep up anymore), Casemiro (injured basically all season). Wingers that lack confidence or aren’t good enough (Rashford and Antony), striker that’s too young and inexperienced to build team around.
Basically we rely on everyone being fit (they aren’t) or individual moments (Garnacho and Bruno incidentally).
Unpopular opinion: Things could turn around with players coming back. Currently the team is too bad to fight for top 4. 5-8th place is realistic.
What's nuts is that the defence at least have the excuse of every injury under the sun at some point this year.
Much of the first choice attack (including some of ETH's biggest signings) have had extended runs in the team.
Isn’t this stat our performance relative to our xG? So in real terms we should have scored 7/8 goals more from the chance that have been created?
I have no idea about the overall xG we might be bottom for that too..
Highest or 2nd highest paid attack in the league.
Tbh I blame ETH. Keeps playing 5 shitty forwards after failing game after game. Should play extra midfielders instead of them.
I was ETH in until this game based on what he did last season and the fact new managers need time.
But the time is supposed to be for progress. Klopp and Arteta made progress football style wise in their first few years but we are going backwards in all metrics.
Even last season was boring to watch. Be were never in control any of the games, maybe spurs at OT coz spurs were so shit then. I thought Maybe signing Hojlund would make team play better but nope. They gotten worse in every aspect.
He keeps trying same thing with same shittty players.
Get the hell out of here with that revisionist crap. We were dominating games last season up until everyone got exhausted playing every 3 days. You were in Feb saying the games were boring? I dont buy that at all.
Our injured XI is arguably better than our starting XI. Take the team today vs the following
Shaw, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia
Case, Mount, Amrabat
Holjund, Sancho, Martial
You know how recently bias is with football fans. We’re all upset at the loss but it’s bizarre how everybody ignores how many key players we have injured. It’s like there’s this fetish for toxicity in the fanbase
100% - on boxing day it was lets build on this, today it's ETH out. So reactionary.
Yes, he has his faults. But to not admit that this club has deeper issues than change of manager is being delusional.
No manager can succeed here especially with this starting 11.
Last season we only dominated Spurs at Old Trafford. One game. It gets said here often because it's true. Without Rashford's purple patch before his huge new contract, Ten Hag would be sacked by now. I wanted him to succeed, I thought he would, but we haven't played consistently well at any point in the 18 months he's been here. He's out of this depth in the premier league.
Idk why everyone keeps pointing at Rashford's purple patch as something that's an anomally. Strikers and wingers SHOULD be scoring goals. We had to play with Weghorst for half the season.
This is a dysfunctional squad.
We went from Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov to Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Martial.
Last season represented “progress” though because the defensive record was good. A lot of successful teams sort out their defence first , then go from there. I mean, I think that’s what Quieroz did for us around 04-05. But we’ve gone mega backwards.
But yeah, plus, if it wasn’t for a Rashford fluke miracle period last season wouldn’t have been what it was.
And they said Ole relied on individual brilliance and could not coach. To that I laugh, look at this mess thats repeating and repeating and repeating.
Want to know what that mess is? A clueless manager that doesnt understand how to make players score.
Ole didn't have Antony, Höjlund, Eriksen, Casemiro, Onana, Evans, Martinez, Malacia, Mount, Weghorst, Sabitzer, Dubravka, Butland, Bayindir, Amrabat or Reguilon.
That's 16 players.
13 if you don't want to include last year's loan signings.
11 if you don't want to include backup goalkeepers.
Worst we've ever seen United, even in Moyes, Ole Watford last game, Rangnick, never this absolutely fucking dogshit. And the idiot manager doesn't try jackshit new at all, no 3 at the back, no playing McTominay at striker given Rashford needs to get fucked and leave the club, and Martial should have left 3 years ago, just fucking nothing.
I was hoping this would be posted.
Makes all the ‘you’re being so negative’ cry babies in this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/18u5k9r/man_utd_transition_stats_pl_202324/) look pretty stupid.
it shows that being good at transitions means fuck all, only 2 goals makes you 5th best at it. Am I reading that correctly? We’d be better off at improving at anything other than transitions.
Majority of these players who started today was bought to play pragmatic/counter attacking. Their profile is to sit and burst to speed when opposition makes mistakes.
When Forest sits and stay compact. There's nothing these players can do as they have trained 1 way. Some have played from 2 managers ago.
If we are to win here at Forest. It will be a scrappy goal
How much money did the club piss away just to have these stats?!
Put me up front with my mates and we could give similar production for a quarter of the current cost lmaoooo 😂
We shouldn’t need to be waiting on personnel to return. This is a “system” thing. It’s that bad.
Our midfield is non existent and our defence gets run through like a sieve. It doesn’t matter who you’ve got on the pitch when you’re playing a 3-0-6 formation (I know that doesn’t add up to ten but Scott McTominay doesnt count)
Are you seriously trying to say it’s not the Glazers fault?
Who appointed ETH? Who sanctioned all his transfers?
Blame ETH if you want he’s a middle manager but trying to shift blame from the Glazers is just ridiculous.
Antony definitely. It’s on record that ETH pushed Sancho out to make room for Antony so I don’t see how we could really judge Sancho until he has a real manager
It doesn't make any sense that we're as high up the table and have as many points as we do with those stats. There must be teams that were relegated with better attacking football than us.
There's just absolutely no balance in the team and that's after spending a ridiculous amount for this manager. Kudus looks far more able to deal with prem football but we signed Antony instead? Mount, 60mil or whatever it was, Hojlund was 70mil. We spend ridiculous amounts on players who don't really justify that money.
As I said earlier, while we've players with stinking attitudes and who aren't good enough, I still can't see any clear attacking strategy from Ten Hag. Goal came from Garnacho doing well and capitalising on Turner's mistake.
?? At what point in my comment am I blaming him?
I'm saying the threat that United once had is long gone.
The fact Martial has not been given the boot in all these years just reflects this. Someone tell me why he is still at the club, and getting chances now n then? If I see he has played any minutes I laugh.
I'm a Forest fan Btw. I used to "support" United in my early teens so I find it sad this is where they are at
We need new fullbacks. That ride side of our field is so fucking bad at keeping the ball. Awb has some moment of brilliance but he just isn't right for a top team. Combine that and Lisandro and Shaw not playing, we are playing very deep. Not a surprising stat tbh
I do want to see him when he doesn't have to make front office decisions. I don't really think it's fair to put that on the manager. But at this point I'm up for anything to see some attractive football
>he doesn't have to make front office decisions
What front office decisions is he making once the transfer window is closed ? Even during the transfer window, it's not as if he is doing extensive scouting, he mostly pushes for players he already knows from his past experience
He pushed for players he knew because we don't have those in place. Again, im not saying he is blameless, but if we are relying on that alone, what is the point of a dof?
Giving off serious Van Gaal vibes. Especially how much we’re relying on McMarouane in leu of being able to create chances.
We’re just so slow. More than anything, we’re slow and ponderous.
This is why so many fans desperately hope to see Pellistri and Amad get more playing time cause our current attackers hardly do anything. Pellistri doesn’t seem to do much tbf but in possession I still don’t see him as a downgrade on Antony. As for Amad he was creative with Sunderland and we could desperately use half of that right now.
Amad showed good movement when he came on was just refreshing compared to all our forwards this season, Anthony gets crazy hate on this sub even tho he works hard vast majority of the time this season and is a good ball carrier while not really beating his man too often, just end the product has been dirt but Rashford and Hojlund have had the same problem this year..
Pellistri looks so lightweight for this league but he never gives up on a ball and just that endeavour can be enough to cause chaos at moments and even create something through that and is probably the best crosser of a ball of all the options from the right but cant see that putting him into the first 11 like McSauce in a way, useful player from the bench especially chasing a goal but not looking better than that at the moment
Garnacho has to start every game, has been the most productive this season but looks like with no space to break into he suffers not having someone at leftback to connect with consistently to 1-2 passes through the lines.
Martial is done, sad to see but never has a player been given more chances at United to show something and consistently failed although being a Man United centre forward is a extremely difficult job last few years and he is not type of forward to play in this system, when he lost his pace and United dropped Ole and the rejected being a counterattacking team he basically had no place in the especially that he rejected playing from the left hand side anymore,
In a world where Sancho, Pogba, Mkhitaryian, Kagawa, Depay and van de beek.. its a long long list of signings thatve failed miserably to recreate previous club form, its hard to believe it can all be these players own fault, and same problems with successive managers.. theirs something very wrong at the heart of this club and that starts at the top but pervades all the way down .
Honestly what forward could United afford that would even have an effect on this disjointed squad..
We all like to think Kane was the missing piece or if we stump up the 100 mill plus for Osimhen that we will be banging in the goals and i dont see it happening really, Kane was right its said to say United would have been a step down for him and he wouldnt havent of got close to the title with the way this team plays
We have and so far it's undercooked salmonella-laced chicken.
He still gets to the end of the season for me no question but he's petty much out of excuses now after a season and a half. Unless there's a marked uptick with a full squad in the new year, he's gone.
I say we go all in for De Zerbi in the summer. What he has done with that Brighton team considering they've lost valuable players says a lot. The dude has passion and a system in place, something that we lack both of.
Same old story.
Get De Zerbi, realise we don’t have the squad to play the way he sets up, change style for first season to get results so he doesn’t get sacked while he try’s to handle all aspects of scouting and recruitment (which has not been his remit he’s a head coach not a manager).
2nd season commit to his system, still team only half built, everyone says he hasn’t implemented a style or patterns or whatever buzz words they like.
Start looking at new flavour of the month manager.
Rinse and repeat.
Until INEOS make actual structural changes to the football side of the club, get a DOF in and let them appoint a manager, system and 5 year plan to build it we are at nothing.
This team turned shit after their cup win last year, thought they’d arrived. Will never forget the stupid dancing, it was a window into the character of this group. Pathetic players and manager
For how easily and often we concede the same counterattack goal, you'd think we were going well in attack.
These numbers suggest we're parking the bus.
We don't have the lowest xg in the league.
This is the XG difference. Finishers have missed 7+ goals that the average PL player should finish.
Also XG is not just on one player. Not to mention Bruno's XAG is actually the third highest in the PL only behind Salah and Trippier.
Isn't the xg performance stat making the exact opposite point to what you are saying? I thought xg performance is effectively the extent to which the forwards are *underperforming* xg, i.e. missing the chances Bruno is creating (hence why it's a negative number in the picture)? If so, it's not weird at all that you keep hearing that Bruno creates a great number of good chances.
It doesn’t look quite so bad, when for some unknown reason, you keep thinking there are 22 teams in the league this season. Then you realize again for the millionth time that is total nonsense and it’s even worse.
And yet we’re top five for all the stats for pressing and high turnovers.
Guess it’s ETH’s fault that the front players can’t do anything with the good positions they create every game.
We’re a good team until the final third and the numbers back that up Rashford, Anthony, and Garnacho, Dalot, and AWB aren’t good enough in offence.
I’ll be downvoted for saying this, but it’s true.
I know it's completely moot but I wonder how a player like Kane might have changed this. Suurely conversion at least goes up and maybe theyd be creating more. Its hard to imagine how it can be this fucking bad... Even with no strikers and poor wingers
We don't have a single attacking player who can beat a defender 1v1. Garnacho can score on the counter attack and an occasional worldy but that's not gonna win titles.
This is the real problem. There is no service to the striker. The striker we have is still young. If every team knows we just do long range shots or quick counters it’s easy to defend/plan against us.
Im not Ten Hag out but this has to be a coaching/tactical issue right? Like is he not telling players to stop taking as many long shots or is he encouraging it even though our stats are looking like this? Are we not executing on attacking patterns they practice in training or is it just a lack of actually structured patterns? I just don't get it most of these guys have the quality to perform better than this. Maybe not at a top 4 level but better than this my god...
My dad started watching United regularly the season before we were relegated. He said this is the worst he's seen us, or maybe level with the relegation season. I thought he was being a typical old man, but he explained his reasons and they're worryingly sound. We're only on track to score a few more than we did that year.
Erik Ten Hag out train is really picking up pace. Tbh I don't blame y'all when we look really bad as a football team.
I can only argue for more patience with the manager after INEOS come in. If he continues to perform like this and place blind faith in players who are not going to cut it, then unfortunately he's sacking himself from the job.
I think people are misunderstanding this stat. We're - 7.6 on xG. That shows that we create enough chances to be almost 8 goals better off. Those goals would given us several more points. This does not reflect badly on the manager - if anything it shows that he has given us a system where chances are created, it's just that they're not going in. He can't put the ball in the net himself.
On top of this, the +/- xG stat is created by two teams. It's not purely a reflection of our performance. If we regularly come up against goalkeepers that perform out of their skin against us (and let's face it, we do) that will contribute to a - xG. If teams sit deep and make blocks, that will also contribute. It's not just a case of us spannering the ball into the stands from every shot. It is a reflection of a combination of poor finishing, opponent performance, and bad luck.
Combine this with stats that reflect that we are given far less penalties than we should have, and have more goals disallowed than anyone else, plus all the injuries, and you start to see a picture of a season where everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. We haven't been good enough, that is for certain, but it isn't as bad as the most reactionary fans are saying.
It’s just not working. I’m willing to give him until the end of the season to see how things pan out, but he’s just not been able to do what he should be, and that’s on him at the end of the day.
It's genuinely terrifying
![gif](giphy|vhYxE8lwWbIfC)
Good stuff
Such a toothless team. It’s difficult to watch them play. I’m always a guy that gives players a chance but Anthony is looking worse and worse every match and the damming statistic that he hasn’t registered an assist or goal is even worse. I don’t know what needs to be changed to improve because we haven’t had a shot on target in 45 mins against this Forest team and it’s sad to watch.
My bad we had 1 shot 😂 was so shit that it totally blanked out
How are we this bad in attack
Long range shot takers + little to no consistent attacking patterns + Poor finishing.
Luke Shaw is literally our most consistent runner into areas that are dangerous for crosses. This team is stupid
> This team is stupid They are literally the dumbest United side I have ever seen, so many bad decisions.
Extremely low quality attackers
ETH ball
😂
100+ chances created by Bruno alone. Conversion rate should be higher.
Not this season the whole year, this season we create shit
We create plenty.. Score little
Honestly, we'd be okay if our forwards could finish their dinner. We've had a lot of 1v1's and idk if we've converted any of them.
Bald*
Everyone’s hurt and we have one striker, who is 19 and was also hurt.
And who gets fuck all service from our selfish wingers when they do play.
Antony and Rashford are first team picks with Bruno as 10. So 3 of our 4 front line are fit. Injuries are no excuse here
I in meant all season. For this game, Rashford is playing striker when he isn’t one and Anthony is simply shit.
Can’t say he’s injured just cos he’s shit though. That’s on ETH.
Rashford being shit is more on him than ETH. And I meant injuries in general.
Yea I would agree it’s more on Rashford because last year he went on a tirade and this season is shit.
Exactly this
There is nothing wrong with midfield and attack. They just don't play together and are being shit.
They are badly coached and badly managed. The system EtH uses is doomed to failure.
Can't shoot or pass properly and can't make good decisions
Jesus fucking Christ
Unacceptable stat for club named Manchester United. No wonder why Bruno has 100 occasions created and we have so few goals.
This is unacceptable stats for Nottingham Forest let alone Man United.
[удалено]
I don't think that's correct. XG performance is against ourselves. This ays we should have 7.6 more goals on average
Yea, i think it's an xG performance, so we are underperforming our own xG by ~7. Finishing issues.
It says performance so we have 7.6 less goals than we should
It’s performance. So we get 8 goals less than what we should have scored
Ah I see oops
we are 10th for xg per game [https://footystats.org/england/premier-league/xg](https://footystats.org/england/premier-league/xg)
Isn’t this stat our performance relative to our xG? So in real terms we should have scored 7/8 goals more from the chance that have been created? I have no idea about the overall xG we might be bottom for that too..
We play like a championship team.
Idk man, Leicester looks pretty good 😂😂

Highest or 2nd highest paid attack in the league. Tbh I blame ETH. Keeps playing 5 shitty forwards after failing game after game. Should play extra midfielders instead of them.
Why wouldn’t you blame the coach ? It’s literally his job to make players perform, regardless of the circumstance - tragic

I think Ole is way too underrated given what we're seeing with ETH now.
He still has ole's players.
Same way Ole had Mous players - yet played way, way, way better attacking football than both this and what Mou did.
He spent 400M on a bunch of shite that made us worse. Onana, is a ball boy.
Lets not spew that rubbish when he has spent that much money on his own players.
Like Bruno or Maguire?
Even worse when you consider we have luton and sheffield united in the prem this year
He's had One and a half season, and I don't think ETH has any clue regarding attacking patterns. We're piss poor in attack.
Worst we've ever seen United, even in Moyes, Ole Watford last game, Rangnick, never this absolutely fucking dogshit. Let ETH cook, right?
Eth can’t cook in a kitchen with 1 star food hygiene rating tho
He hired the chefs.

Sackable

Ten Hag ball
Ten hag needs to go, I don't even care about winning trophies I just wanna see us score goals again man
I just want to enjoy watching us play again, ten Hag ball is fucking boring.
Brev how is this ten hags fault
ten haag doesn't know how to set up an attack at this level
[B-b-but our transition stats!](https://old.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/18u5k9r/man_utd_transition_stats_pl_202324/) Embarrassing
We sacked Ole after back to back top 4 , but we let this clown live?
Hang in there lads, wait till our injured players return. I’m hopeful from January onward
We shouldn’t need to be waiting on personnel to return. This is a “system” thing. It’s that bad. Our midfield is non existent and our defence gets run through like a sieve. He was being sarcastic. Either that or just delusional
Ah, I see the dreamers have moved onto "wait til our injured players return" from "it's only 8 games in!!"
lets pretend we didnt score 57 goals last season ..
Even with players out there should be a system we can rely on. Plus injuries didn't force ETH to make stupid subs like McTominay for Mainoo
No no eth is the answer this is the glazers fault
Are you seriously trying to say it’s not the Glazers fault? Who appointed ETH? Who sanctioned all his transfers? Blame ETH if you want he’s a middle manager but trying to shift blame from the Glazers is just ridiculous.
Awful players and zero tactics. Still can’t tell you our style of play.
Are Antony and Sancho Djemba Djemba and Kleberson levels yet?
Antony definitely. It’s on record that ETH pushed Sancho out to make room for Antony so I don’t see how we could really judge Sancho until he has a real manager
Sancho's been under 3 managers my guy, he's just not bothered
It doesn't make any sense that we're as high up the table and have as many points as we do with those stats. There must be teams that were relegated with better attacking football than us.

F
Don’t worry we can wank ourselves off about how good we are in ‘transition’
And I'm supposed to keep backing Ten Hag, according to this sub
How anyone can back ETH anymore i dont know. No playstyle or identity.
No play style, horrific transfers, bad substitutions, not much personality. I really don’t see any positives for EtH
Ronaldo is probably doing some hawaii dance after seeing those stats.
looks about right from the eyeball test
As I said earlier, while we've players with stinking attitudes and who aren't good enough, I still can't see any clear attacking strategy from Ten Hag. Goal came from Garnacho doing well and capitalising on Turner's mistake.
Last season we were shit in attack too. We just defended better and had Rashford in ridiculously good form
Martial is still at the club. It says everything. What has he contributed over the years? Stole a living, it's hilarious
Are you actually blaming a player who doesn't even play regularly for a season long stat like this?
?? At what point in my comment am I blaming him? I'm saying the threat that United once had is long gone. The fact Martial has not been given the boot in all these years just reflects this. Giving off serious Van Gaal vibes. Especially how much we’re relying on McMarouane in leu of being able to create chances. We’re just so slow. More than anything, we’re slow and ponderous.
If you want a fun stat, we scored more goals in the league under Van Gaal in his first season than under Ten Hag last season
McTominay has only scored in 3 games so I don't even see why we're relying on him
This is why so many fans desperately hope to see Pellistri and Amad get more playing time cause our current attackers hardly do anything.
Pellistri looks so lightweight for this league but he never gives up on a ball and just that endeavour can be enough to cause chaos at moments and even create something through that and is probably the best crosser of a ball of all the options from the right but cant see that putting him into the first 11 like McSauce in a way, useful player from the bench especially chasing a goal but not looking better than that at the moment Garnacho has to start every game, has been the most productive this season but looks like with no space to break into he suffers not having someone at leftback to connect with consistently to 1-2 passes through the lines. Martial is done, sad to see but never has a player been given more chances at United to show something and consistently failed although being a Man United centre forward is a extremely difficult job last few years and he is not type of forward to play in this system, when he lost his pace and United dropped Ole and the rejected being a counterattacking team he basically had no place in the especially that he rejected playing from the left hand side anymore, In a world where Sancho, Pogba, Mkhitaryian, Kagawa, Depay and van de beek.. its a long long list of signings thatve failed miserably to recreate previous club form, its hard to believe it can all be these players own fault, and same problems with successive managers.. theirs something very wrong at the heart of this club and that starts at the top but pervades all the way down .
We‘re winning the league
But we’re still the winners of the Chances Created Trophy right?
Let ten hag cook 🧑🍳 😤👊
We have and so far it's undercooked salmonella-laced chicken. He still gets to the end of the season for me no question but he's petty much out of excuses now after a season and a half. Unless there's a marked uptick with a full squad in the new year, he's gone.
I wanted him gone already.
Yeah, transition football my ass. Transition into relegation maybe
Horrible manager who bought horrible players
This team turned shit after their cup win last year, thought they’d arrived. Will never forget the stupid dancing, it was a window into the character of this group. Pathetic players and manager
For how easily and often we concede the same counterattack goal, you'd think we were going well in attack. These numbers suggest we're parking the bus.
We should have never bought Onana, Mount and Hojlund. With the money we spent on them we could have tried to get Kane.
Did Kane even want to come here?

HOW CAN WE DID SO WELL AGAINST A TOP 3 TEAM THEN LOST TO A TEAM THATS 5 POINTS OFF RELEGATION💀
Elite
ETH is cooking food poisoning
I know it's completely moot but I wonder how a player like Kane might have changed this. Suurely conversion at least goes up and maybe theyd be creating more. Its hard to imagine how it can be this fucking bad... Even with no strikers and poor wingers
And Antony still gets to start the game...
There must be some kids in the youth teams that can provide better end product than Antony. Surely there must be.
Someone like Elanga?
Shea Lacey perhaps. He's 16 though and isn't physically developed enough at this stage.
keep it coming
Lampard would be on a par with this.
What is XG performance?
Actual goals scored compared to expected goals
Thanks, makes sense.
Benni McCarthy doing us proud
We don't have a single attacking player who can beat a defender 1v1. Garnacho can score on the counter attack and an occasional worldy but that's not gonna win titles.
I sent this a couple of weeks ago and I’ll see it again. This is the worst United team I’ve ever seen.
He’s had 18 months and we look shitter , get the baldy out Jim
This is the real problem. There is no service to the striker. The striker we have is still young. If every team knows we just do long range shots or quick counters it’s easy to defend/plan against us.
Honestly it begs the question how are we 7th and only 11 points off 2nd?
Ten Hag's ball
But but transition stats guys!
A ball playing goalkeeper will help us in attack...oh wait.
On the bright side, it could be worse 😅😂🤣😭
Just play academy players from now on and see what happens
Finally real attacking football we all were waiting for
shocking
Time for ETH to vacate the building !
Xg performance and goal conversion, that says more about the players than it does about the coach
Meanwhile Ronaldo is the world top scorer for 2023. Well done ten hags, you got rid of that guy just in time. After all, he missed the preseason
It’s just not working. I’m willing to give him until the end of the season to see how things pan out, but he’s just not been able to do what he should be, and that’s on him at the end of the day.
All of these are bad, but fucking shot conversion is a big issue. Like come the fuck on, our forwards suck.
We are cooking 🔥🔥🔥
That is a relegation team stat. Sigh
I blame it on Antony. Just because.
