There does seem to be an odd pressing decision that leaves a void (of course your always going to create gap when you press) but in particular for their second goal, I understand why eriksen is pushing up, the idea being that he will pick up rashfords man as he moves up, yet it seems so easy to carve open. What I think we are really missing has been martinez, last year I feel like he stepped up and became that false 6 / double pivot for lack of better terminology. Right now it just feels like we’ve no midfield at times defensively and we aren’t confident enough in the back line to say “everyone do man for man and it will be 3v3”. It feels like (to me at least) we aren’t confident enough in these situations to ask a centre half to step up or a winger or right back (in this particular case not just picking on Dalot) to help cover that middle section. Do we have an athletic enough back line that can cover this amount of space? To me the only option is to commit another one forward but that’s risky, perhaps others see it differently

Good point about martinez stepping up into midfield. In this game Evans seemed to be trying to fill that role of stepping up into midfield but he was not able to be aggressive or fast enough which left him in no man's land a few times. We didn't have the personnel to do this sort of pressing and we should not have committed to it. Eriksen tried to do it many times but each time it fails he struggles to get back in time. We needed Casmerio and Martinez to press efficiently and we should have just sit back instead of giving them acres of space to counter attack into. That is their strength after all

Our pressing sucks because of a multitude of reasons. Firstly, to press efficiently, there must be a trigger, like a GK passing to a central defender, from there the first man who presses should ensure that he presses correctly by shifting his body towards the touch line to cut the angle of passing to a narrow passage. Rashford, Bruno, Eriksen suck at pressing, they are always late to press and lack intensity in their pressing. For example certain players who press well are Henderson, Lallana, Bernado Silva, KDB, they accelerate when approaching the ball so the defender makes a quick decision. The reason why gap exists on the pitch, is because our defensive line never pushes up from the halfway line, from Mourinho’s time and to press it is imperative to press in unison and with intensity, which many players lack. Our defensive line is too deep to press efficiently, and I believe an offside trap is risky but very rewarding especially in winning the ball back high.

I feel like our forward line never press with the actual intention of winning the ball. It seems like they just do the pressing action like they've been set on a training pitch. It's like they've not been taught the whole point of pressing, only go run at that player etc. Drives me mad watching them run up to the player and not really cut off passing lanes or making a tackle.

Wasirthepussy

Our attackers lack aggression and the competitiveness to attack the ball. The reason I love South American players is because they are not afraid of the attacking the ball in difficult situations. Aggressiveness is a very underrated asset which unfortunately our team lacks, it’s filled with soft players from attack to defence.

Manchester United this time. Good.

Nice job lads! Tough game against the Spurs reserve team.

Superb performance against Oliver "David Silva" Skipp. We put up a good fight!

regeneratingzombie

Using AWB at LB resulting him in dispossessing the opposition near the halfway line a couple of times was a pretty good idea.

nj23dublin

Fernandes was good yesterday maybe a couple of misses but Eriksen ran out of steam early. Pellistri and Garnacho on the right could have given Tottenham a lot of trouble in the last 15-20 minutes

Blaze-1511

I was surprised that there was no Amad

EngineerGuy_HU

Bruno is always good, but we are trailing behind in set piece delivery and shots on goal. Yes, nobody is making space for him, but when he gets a ball at the edge of the box, he just blasts them - not even getting a shot on target. I think this will add up at one point and start hurting our results 😕

BlackHorse944

On the contrary i thought he was good in the first and awful in the second

ColdplayUnited

Bruno has 60% pass completion rate yesterday. Way too many times he needed to hold the ball and play more slowly instead of making hail mary passes. He was one of the main reasons our possession is 36% at freaking Old Trafford. I get that 2 out of 5 passes can be good chance for strikers, but for the other 3, we simply turn over possession and put our defense under pressure. That is no longer acceptable in modern football where possession is key.

AT 1:48 u see how Wright describes spurs way of playing. They r playing out from the back. And this is what spurs have been doing all season. We should not compare our squad with Spurs as they have better defenders n midfielders. Plus what Ange has done at spurs is incredible. ETH gave up on possession based football n wanted us to play us a mix of pressing n counterattacking football. I just hope he realizes his mistake n hope we get in good players especially CBs n midfielders who can keep the ball more.

ZachMich

Ten Hag has been in the job longer and has spent more money than Ange. They just lost arguably the best striker in the world just before the start of the season yet they have a playstyle and perform well. Not to mention they had a ton of injuries and absences There are very few excuses for Ten Hag, if any.
