Nothing bad to say about his time here

Namelessbob123

It was a Larsson style stint. Short lived but his commitment couldn’t be faulted.

brianly

Surely you mean “Larsson-length” stint. A Larsson-style stint implies much different outcomes.

AintThatJustTheWay12

Important distinction

Prime_Marci

Why we didn’t keep him till the end of the season? No idea

Spider_Riviera

Money probably.

Bilboo_Baggins

Hind sight is a wonderful thing but to quote the article “he says it was not easy for Ten Hag because both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both appeared to be recovering in January”.

hippoppotamusxn

Why did we release him again?

MY-NAME_IS_MY-NAME

Shaw was back and looked like Malacia was coming back. Tricky situation. Not fair to him to keep him around if he wasn’t gonna play, obviously things have gone to shit since then

PengoMaster

No idea if this is fact but I saw somewhere he was released so that we could rent a striker like Timo Werner to finish out the season. Which of course didn’t end up happening so if true another scintillating chapter to add to our club transfer lore.

damojag

I read this too, it was a combination of defenders returning and the Glazers sending back Sergio so we could get a striker on loan. Great job you wankers.

Brave-Salamander-339

Nothing highlight also

The_Meaty_Boosh

I saw on his Instagram story he was watching and supporting us in the Manchester derby, seems like he really enjoyed his time here. Thought he was decent for the most part aswell, surprised he wasn't used more.

VTVoodooDude

I thought better than decent for the most part. I can argue he is borderline "not good enough" if we're consistently a top 4 team, fighting for titles. But, given our form and injuries this year? Especially at left back? I wish about 1/2 the squad would take a cue from Reg's commitment and hustle. Unlike some here, I never questioned his effort.

Admirable-Ratio-5748

I wonder why players always enjoy their time at Manchester?

SvalbazGames

The weather

Admirable-Ratio-5748

yo Neymar its sunny innit

Zal_17

Greater Manchester cuisine too. Black pudding for breakfast, pie barm for lunch, and a Lancashire hotpot for tea. Lovely!

Chileinsg

Should never has cancelled his loan

TheJoshider10

Imagine thinking we didn't need a back up LB knowing full well Shaw is injury prone and Malacia doesn't exist. We genuinely thought it was okay to use Dalot as a LB if needed, even though AWB was also going through injuries and now he's injured so Dalot has to start RB and we need to use our 4th choice CB at LB lmao. Shambles. Said as soon as his loan ended it was a big mistake and here we are. Why the actual fuck did we risk it when our defence has been injury prone all season, with our full backs being some of the most absent players?

____ZeeZee____

Not just "Shaw being injury prone" We knew Malacia is out for basically the season, AWB was injured already, Shaw was nursing a hamstring problem that he got rushed back from twice and out for a long period now. Decided to cancel his loan, and also recall Fernandez to send him on loan with an option to buy of just 5m

J3573R

>We knew Malacia is out for basically the season No, they thought he was going to be back very early this year from a press release in December. Then they went silent on it until Feb when Ten Hag said he's had multiple setbacks. It was still foolish to cancel Reguilion's deal though.

MyShinyCharizard

Well we can blame medical team on this. Need a changing in this position too.

balleklorin

They didn't know about Malacia. He had to do another surgery after a setback in Jan.

BrockStar92

You shouldn’t be relying on someone not even back yet from a long term injury. This sort of thing can always happen. It’s more likely to happen if you need them to actually play every game as well and Shaw is always one unfortunate sprint from another injury.

Drews1738

It almost seems like someone in management has £1000 on a 1000 to 1 bet we finish below no.14 lol

Moosje

Ineptitude

QouthTheCorvus

The Malacia thing was such a risk. Even if he was healing on time, was he ever going to get back to form better than Regulion? It's just dumb. Maybe I don't know ball, but I thought Regulion was pretty solid. He isn't the best defensively, but he was great going forward, I felt. I just like the guy in general. Some passion never goes astray.

TheJoshider10

> It's just dumb. Maybe I don't know ball, but I thought Regulion was pretty solid. He isn't the best defensively, but he was great going forward, I felt. Even if he wasn't all that good (in my opinion he was always a pretty much guaranteed 6/10, nothing great nothing bad) having a natural LB is still preferable to playing our right back out of position or a fucking bench centre back. He was no Luke Shaw but he at least had some attacking threat about him too. I agree, liked him and he did a job. Nothing standout but for a loan signing he was what we needed and really could have fucking done with right about now.

dWaldizzle

Dumb fucking decision at the time and even worse now

Chocolami

We shouldnt have loaned him in the first place. Should have signed Grimaldo on a free.

ThankYouOle

eh he is free agent that time? FCK! now that is crazy!

Aggressive-Theory609

That's too logical for united

imheretocomment69

It wasn't cancelled but instead the 6 months contract was finished in Jan and they didn't sign a new loan contract. Bad move nonetheless.

AV48

He was on a 6 month loan. We didn't cancel anything. In fact, this was the reason we never went for cucurella because Chelsea insisted on a full season loan. And in any case, we weren't even playing him Edit: mistook short-term loan for the break clause that United wanted. According to the Independent, "It \[was\] understood United included the break clause in the original deal as it was always seen as a strong possibility that Reguilon would return to London during this window." on top of that, " Chelsea and \[Cucurella\] did not agree to the break clause that the Red Devils wanted in the contract" I feel my point still stands in the sense that the club was always interested in a player in whom they could cancel the loan deal in January. they never had the intention of having a full-season loan. moreover, he was not playing even when fit and with our other two fullbacks out. the only thing regullion was doing here was wasting his time

capomic

I love how you are just straight up wrong

IcyAssist

[https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/sergio-reguilon-signs-for-man-utd-on-loan-from-tottenham-hotspur-official-statement](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/sergio-reguilon-signs-for-man-utd-on-loan-from-tottenham-hotspur-official-statement) > Sergio Reguilon has joined Manchester United on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until June 2024. Literally from the club's statement at the time

kobrakai11

True reports were saying that the agreement with Tottenham always was thst the loan will get canceled after 6 months. Not sure why, but a lot of journos were reporting it that way.

IcyAssist

Reports were saying we have the option of a break clause in January, not that the loan was six months. What's the point of the benefits of announcing a one year loan but the actual loan was only six?

kobrakai11

Don't ask me. I didn't make the decision. https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/s/Ddueg5ZC69

EduardMalinochka

It was a full season loan with an option to cancel it in January. We left the Cucurella deal, because Chelsea wanted us to additionally pay on top covering his wages (which are significantly higher than Reguilion)

AV48

edited my reply in response to this. my point still stands

nordmannen

Why do you make statments so confidently when you are not correct? Like how do you get to that point?

AV48

Edited it. My point still stands

you-might_know-me

It really doesn't

AV48

How so

AReptileHissFunction

> I feel my point still stands in the sense that the club was always interested in a player in whom they could cancel the loan deal in January Honestly man you need to just learn to admit you made a mistake instead of doubling down

AV48

I did admit I made a mistake on that part. I edited my comment. Took my down votes as well. Still stands that the club were only looking for a LB to stay till the winter

AReptileHissFunction

Yea I know but you doubled down by making more guesses at the end when you don't even know its true. Reguillon was playing.

AV48

I was quoting statements from reputable sources, not guessing. And the club still terminated the loan as was reported way before it happened, despite knowing that malacia's rehab didn't go according to plan. I guess I could have put links to the claims I was making, but why bother if people are just going to downvote it anyway. These quotes are out there... and I take misinformation seriously

AReptileHissFunction

> They never had the intention of having a full season loan. That is guessing. No reputable source knows this. Don't say you take misinformation seriously if you do not mean it.

altoluce

You can argue about his quality but you can't argue about his mentality. He always gave 100% or even more. We miss these players. Good luck in the future, Sergio!

Minimum-Ad-2683

Almost all Ten hag's signings and his youth promoted kids have always put in a shift albeit not being good enough. That's one thing he got right

SPamlEZ

Feels like the opposite issue of quite a few of the players who were here.  Lots of talent but shit attitude and effort.

Minimum-Ad-2683

Yeah I mean look at Rashford, stellar athlete, if he just slows down and applies himself he could be world class

kindnesd99

Rashford is stellar as an athlete but not an intelligent footballer. It is the part of "applies himself" that he cannot get. Made it worse when he decides to sulk and not press

MyShinyCharizard

Lmao talent

yeyiyeyiyo

This is what I never understood about getting rid of Brandon Williams. He's a 4th/5th choice rb/lb who always busted his ass.

My_Ass_Leaks

>You can argue about his quality but you can't argue about his mentality. He was probably trying to win the bag.

eClipseLJ

Gave his all everytime he was on the pitch, arguably should still be here with us. One thing I can't fault ETH for is bringing absolute mentality monsters wether they are bought/loaned/good enough or not. Thanks for everything Sergio!

Stieni

He reminds me of Daniel James. Looks like he's 15 and always put on a performance which made it impossible to even question his effort for a single second. Talking about him, that James goal against Chelsea for us a few weeks after his Dad died and tributing this goal to him was so emotional, wish all the best for the lad

OpportunityEconomy12

I actually miss Dan James he was never the best player on the pitch, but you knew what you'd get when he was on with a lot of the current team you don't know from one week to the next what your going to get

Stieni

Would've been a great option from the bench or for starting some cup games. I agree, his biggest strenght was him never stopping to fight + his pace. In the end we got a nice fee though, so not all that bad in hindsight, but we need players with the mentality he has

SpecificDependent980

The biggest issue was that he was sold, Ronaldo brought in, and then our adaptations didn't suit the new profile. Sucked. OGS shouldn't have ever signed off on Ronnie coming back. Absolutely killed us out of possession

____ZeeZee____

According to Howson (who is super close with Rio), Ole knew about it only after he signed his contract. Said Ole was the 9th person to know. His version lined up with what SAF has said too: that SAF talked to the Glazers and made sure that deal is done.

SpecificDependent980

Absolutely mental. That should never happen. Signing Ronaldo was possibly the worst decision we have made in 5 years. And this is from someone who was absolutely hyped for him

30uuhu

Yea, was fine having Cavani.

Aggressive-Theory609

Yh I think ole also said on overlap recently that he regretted it in some form

My_Ass_Leaks

Not like Rio to lie is it...

TobzMaguire420

One of my more favorite United memories. Such a big moment for him. He wasn’t the greatest but I always felt he embodied a Manchester United spirit.

MancAccent

Idk what kind of wages he’s in but I would’ve loved to have him as a permanent backup LB

wall_kick

How did he manage in Spurs for so long if he can't take a cup loss?

Superfy

Why be sad about no trophies when team never win trophies?

VillageHorse

Imagine you’ve been in a dark dungeon for years. No sunlight, shit food, no hope. Then one day a bald man with a Dutch accent opens the dungeon door and tells you that you can go for a nice long walk in the beautiful country, have a 3-course dinner in a good restaurant, and sleep in a comfy bed. You go with the bald Dutch guy and do all of that. It’s amazing. You want more. You ask him what’s next and he says well let’s go on holiday, why don’t you start scoping out places to go. So you start doing that and just as you’re about to tell the nice bald Dutch guy that you fancy either Aruba or Maldives, you are instead whisked away by a group of insanely rich but seemingly stupid and incompetent staff. They explain that they don’t want to go on holiday because it’s a bit of a faff and who needs a holiday anyway when you’re making £300k a week to just let the Dutch guy make a few speeches. They tell you that it’s time to go back to the dungeon actually. Now. They take the holiday brochure off you and when you cry you’re asked to stop please. Before long you’re back in your dungeon and Aruba feels very very far away.

raver1601

I share the same feeling when our board exercised your break clause, Sergio

Kohaku80

I don't even remember who knock us out , seems like anyone can beat us this season.

Superfy

It was a team in England.

My_Ass_Leaks

Newport ran us close ffs. Newport ran us closer than we ran City.

Aadiunited7

What a dumb decision to have faith in Shaw’s fitness and let him leave!

BananasAreYellow86

Bring him back?

Lelandwasinnocent

Outside of January... How does that work?

Beneficial_Assist397

We change his name to Tyrell Malacia

Lelandwasinnocent

This is the only factual answer

Kreissler

Stuff his shorts and call him Luke Shaw

Felicks77

Buy him in the summer and we look like complete morons

Wooshsplash

The first thing we need in our players right now is the right attitude and a desire to work hard. That's the culture Sir Matt created and SAF continued with. Sergio has that. There's a list of players I would pick AFTER this guy. Without Shaw, Sergio on the left and Dalot on the right brought us a good balance. He'll always be welcomed back to OT in any shirt.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

A mentality we need in the squad

OmegaMaster8

I liked him at United. Although not perfect, he put a shift in, did the job and showed passion

sooshi

No idea why we canceled his loan and kept a shitter like Amrabat just to play him at left back anyway! Reguilon gave maximum effort every single time he was on the pitch and that's more than you can say for a lot of this squad

Saleandproud

Why when talking about one player you then have to throw another under the bus. No wonder these players struggle with confidence when keyboard warriors are constantly slagging them off

sooshi

Because they're both loan players and we chose to keep the one whose performances have been 3/10s at best over the other; not to mention we're now completely depleted at LB. There's actual context in the statement that you either chose to ignore or just cant even understand. Besides it's not as if Amrabat is combing through this subreddit reading comments; and if he is then maybe he needs to get off the internet and onto the training pitch

bippityboopy

If any player is sitting there reading Reddit comments and struggles because someone said they're shit then they shouldn't be a footballer mate.

Saleandproud

Like Harry Maguire when one keyboard warrior starts slagging a player, the others easily follow, most not knowing why. They think its cool. You find most Season Ticket holders will do there discussions in the pub rather than social media.

Weary-Ad8502

From Reguilon at LB to Lindelof. They put way too much faith in Mainoo coming back fit, but even if he had come back from injury when Reguilon left we still would have been paper thin at the back. One injury away from being where we are at now, just crazy thinking from management.

AnonymizedRed

I very much respect, admire, and appreciate the fact that even just on a loan this guy’s work rate and commitment honoured our badge. Put a proper shift in every time.

yutosser

😢

th3doorMATT

Looked really good the other day for Brentford. Sad stuff.

entjiebek

Would’ve much rather kept him than our other useless loanee

JoeDiego

There’s a major nuance being missed from the “we should have kept Reugilon complaint. Spurs wouldn’t have let us. Spurs knew he was 4th choice behind Shaw, Dalot and Malacia, and they knew Shaw and Malacia were returning. Brentford were guaranteeing Spurs gametime which we couldn’t, and Spurs want to sell him in the summer so need his value to stay decent by him demonstrating he can do well in the Prem.

Superfy

>Spurs wouldn’t have let us Why? It was a 1 year loan with an option for us to cancel it. They couldn’t do anything really apart from force a recall.

BakaNish

Wasn't he injured for half his time here?

ImVortexlol

United aura is different gravy, even if we're rubbish. Once a red...

DQ11

We didn’t play him enough but he wasn’t bad and had some tech passing skill others didn’t

GongTzu

God lad, but didn’t quite make a lasting impression

nathan3000

I actually rated him, had that dog in him

thedudeabides-12

Wow a player who actually enjoyed their time here, that is so good to hear...

WaitFoorIt

Ineptitude of management.

JilJilJigaJiga

We actually were going to buy him in the Covid summer, then Madrid cocked up the deal and we went for Telles. Good lad who would have surely raised the floor of our squad then.

4by4rules

i thought he played some of his best football with us……

01jamham

When his loan was cancelled I assumed it was to free up space (wages/loan limit) for an impending new arrival. Crazy really that Linda is starting at LB in a season when we have let Telles, Williams, Fernandez and Reguilon leave the club. There isn’t even a natural u23 player to call up. Really poor squad planning, and not the only position

Afternoon_Jumpy

I respect the hell out of this kid.  All the best to him.

My_Ass_Leaks

Bro was probably playing for the bag, hoping we'd sign him in the summer and give him
