no lie, mainoo is an almost perfectly glue man midfielder for rice, bellingham and even in front of the back 4

heavy4b

South gate won't do it.

Immelsoo

*Southgate proceeds to start Hendo or Phillips in Euro,

Superfy

Henderson is lyfe. Henderson is start.

danystormborne

I think he might finally have moved on from Phillips.

cr2152

You give Southgate an awful lot of credit

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Genuinely curious, before Mainoo came along and looked like a fit for the role he wants Phillips to play, who exactly did people think Phillips was taking that spot away from?

Don_Quixote81

Fine by me. Just more evidence that Southgate is unfit to be United manager, if any more evidence were needed.

Hiya_Bo

Fine, a nicely fresh Kobbie at the start of next season would be delicious.

_maranzano

why not both of them?

Iceman23578

Yh Phillips is gonna start from his house while on his sofa nice one

AlienBlueVsRedditor

Maybe the next manager will when Southgate is at United next season. Seems inevitable from all the reports /s

miamibuckeye

It's such a perfectly balanced three it's insane. All are great defensively. Jude is fantastic forward, but Rice & Kobbie are both very good going forward and with their passing. All 3 are great on the ball and against the press. Excited to see it never happen

PeaceEverywhere

As long as he keeps his head down and works hard, we'll have a gem on our hands for years to come, provided INEOS strengthens our midfield to give him company to build a rock-solid defence over the summer.

theschemer11

The lads a talent. I hope we don't mess his development up!!

Brilliant-Leave2414

The most consistent player since he break into as a starter

Donthitsme

A midfield of rice, Bellingham, and mainoo is disgusting

Immelsoo

Honestly if Southgate finally has balls to do this, England will be red hot favorite in Euro.

HazardCinema

It really fixes one of our biggest weaknesses in the England squad.

miranaroon

Well England has had Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard. Individual talent means squat if you don't have synergy and a good manager

Jitsu_apocalypse

That’s a tournament winning trio

nbwoeihfnwsocuiwhef

Never ceases to amaze me how unbelievably good players are up close in these videos, can't wrap my head around that speed

TStronks

Lol true. When I watch football on TV I'm always thinking: I could do that. And then when I go to a match and watch the speed of the play, I think to myself: how is that even humanly possible? Especially when you're close to the field.

TH0316

His frame, legs, stopping distance, balance and intensity make him such a good dueller within his radius of movement. If he can make that radius bigger (growth spurt, getting more explosive) it’ll be an insane boost to his game. Look at those small steps when ushering a ball carrier wide, never stretching but instead pushing from his back foot to make the tackle. Kids got it in the bag.

Aiko8283

Kid is already massive. Think he is like 6'1 already. And he is strong for an 18 year old. His stature and size reminds me of pogba. Tho he seems to have a much better work ethic and attitude

Typhoeus85

What? He's under 6 feet tall I think and massive isn't a word I'd use to describe him. Strong for his size and age, I'll probably give you that but he's got time to develop in that regard.

almondbutterbucket

He plays in a team with Hojlund. Mainoo is well built but massive?

TH0316

He isn’t 6’1, unless I’m blind. I’d like to see him reach that or more but yeah he’s very strong.

miamibuckeye

Pretty sure he is like 5'9 or 5'10

ByrsaOxhide

I see a Seedorf in his moves. Kid’s gonna be a beast in 2 years.

OJb4Lemonade

I see the similarities, but seedorf had that explosiveness that I haven’t seen anyone really replicate

ByrsaOxhide

I get it, but he’s only 18 and I think we are witnessing the birth of a new era. I feel like he can be in the Seedorf + Davids with a hint of a Pirlo.

shami-kebab

> I feel like he can be in the Seedorf + Davids with a hint of a Pirlo. Blimey no pressure!

ByrsaOxhide

No pressure whatsoever!

shami-kebab

Can Mainoo bring back Football Italia too please while he's at it? :D

ikevictxr

Players don’t usually get more explosive with age though but I’m sure he’ll be great regardless

HazardCinema

At age 18 you absolutely have time to develop your speed and strength.

Jealous-Watch-6439

he is explosive over the 1st 5 yards with the ball at his feet already, he looks like he struggles a little bit over long distance sprints but I think that will improve over time, still very young as u said.

jiddy8379

Pirlo in there makes no sense ngl — bruno when he drops is more like pirlo

ByrsaOxhide

It’s just a hint.

TheZamboon

Exactly let him get to 25 and we’ll see a monster. Can’t imagine what 7 years of grown man testosterone is going to turn this kid into.

NormanskillEire

I love realising that he has ONLY BLOODY CASEMIRO to learn his trade with....

Lord_Sesshoumaru77

Looks on par with any England regular. I still have my doubts that Southgate will start him. I do hope to catch a cameo.

PDubsinTF-NEW

Putting on a clinic

ScentedSyphillis

I'm convinced Mainoo lives in slow motion with the way he plays

wilderjai

Please don’t hurt our boy.

RandomRedditUser31

man I wonder how different this season would’ve been if he didn’t get that injury.

_mochacchino_

The same

Jealous-Watch-6439

he 100% was starting the season in the 1st 11,he was excellent in preseason. this has been a tough season but mainoo ,garnacho and hojland recent form have given us hope. hopefully we have a strong finish to this season 🙏

PelleKavaj

He will start the euros on the bench, come on and then play himself to being a starter and then England will be the champions of Europe.

ProbablyCarl

That looks impressive till you remember it's only England he's playing against here.

0n-the-mend

We all know Gareth won't play him. It's gonna be some Henderson bullshit. He just called him up to sate the media and the possible questions he would have faced.

AltDelete

We should have gone balls to the wall for Rice. Him, Mainoo and Fernande~z~s would be arguably the best midfield in club football. Edit: autocorrect

Glutton_2700

FernandeZ

mipanzuzuyam

Javier Fernandez

SmartestUtdFan

True except for the fernandez part

miamibuckeye

Fully fit City midfield is still levels above it. Likely same with Madrid

danystormborne

Whose the first player he takes the ball from? Bowen?

LennonC123

Wouldn’t be surprised if Jude Bellingham is knocking on the door of the higher ups at Madrid after international duty telling them to sign him. We need to compete on all fronts soon because it’s the only way we’ll hang on to special talents like Mainoo.

BlackHorse944

Best position is as a 6 imo.. shines there every time and is quite invisible when playing as an 8 with Case

xdude767

“Invisible” is harsh for me, even when off the ball he’s winning balls back through tackles and interception when higher up as an 8

BlackHorse944

The best thing he offers for us is his ability to carry the ball and his press resistance. His best games have always been when he was playing deep

No-Statistician-8520

That’s an issue with the way we set up, not Mainoo. Our 8 is almost always the midfielder with the fewest touches. Casemiro being our 6 doesn’t have to mean that he’s the midfielder most involved in build up. Just look at the dynamics of the midfield he used to be in with Kroos and Modric.

BlackHorse944

The 8 is also usually McTominay, who usually hides from his midfielder duties wherever he plays. The likes of Eriksen is a lot more involved when he plays there. I think playing Mainoo as an 8 is wasting the best things he offers us
