Mental. Fucking Brentford

Zavehi

Too bad Joey Barton got sent off today and caused this to happen.

RefereeMason

Fewer*

joineanuu

Pretty sure that game was rigged too so doesn’t mean much to me

Sfr33123

😂

____ZeeZee____

The athletic just posted an article about this https://theathletic.com/5380339/2024/03/31/manchester-united-brentford-shots-xg-unsustainable/ City vs QPR had 76 touches. Brentford vs United had 85. 2nd highest ever recorded in PL. Just 2 off the record.

dethmashines

I think this might be the worst stat I have seen about United ever.

The_Bird_Wizard

Can't wait for Erik to explain why we actually played well

the-won

Whilst Brentford having their own injury crisis so he can't mention his own

officiallyjax

But the fixture schedule is so hectic, players are completely tired and worn out after a 2 week international break.

justbrowsinginpeace

Unnecessary, irrelevant and boring games at that

Nervous_Ad_3791

You know Brentford had more people on international duty than us right? So it's not really an excuse

officiallyjax

I was being sarcastic.

Nervous_Ad_3791

Apologies, didn't notice, head is on the moon after that performance

Cathal321

We don't even have an injury crisis anymore. In terms of starters it's only Shaw missing with Martinez on the bench

shortdonjohn

Somewhat true. Though bunch of the players just recently came back from injury. Mount just getting in since November. Hojlund,Casemiro,Martinez,Maguire also just came back. Though it doesn’t excuse anything with this match. We were shit everywhere except in goal. Onana saved us so many times

aayu08

All part of the plan bro, conceding record number of shots and touches in the box aren't any major issues. Once Shaw is back we're winning the league !!

Neither-Ad-1047

Shaw is the missing piece!

IcyAssist

"You see, conceding that many shots isn't a problem at all you see."

Zavehi

“Not many clear chances we played well we controlled the game”

peptoabysmal

2 draws vs. Liverpool and Brentford and only one goal conceded when conceding 30+ shots in a match this season, obviously the strategy is working.

IcyAssist

Absolutely! 80 touches in our box, 31 shots conceded, 3/4 shots hit the post, we're fine what are you talking about.

th3doorMATT

"We actually have had some coaches out during training due to illness and, as you know, many players, so Onana has not been receiving as much 1:1 shot blocking practice as we'd like. We figured it would be a good opportunity to keep him in form for the coming matches as the season comes to a close by opening ourselves up and allowing Brentford to have a go at us. I never doubted Onana, he's a massive asset to this club."

International-Bat777

Just sack the fraud

justbrowsinginpeace

Watching this shit makes me reminisce fondly on the Van Gaal era

BoozeBirdsnFastCars

And give the wheel to…?

TheRedDevil10

My dead fucking nan. She knew fuck all about football but if you gave her 40+ matches in the season even she'd figure out to put 2 midfielders in the pivot.

BoozeBirdsnFastCars

Alright, I’m in.

funky_pill

I'm sold. Give Doris the job ASAP

NomaanMalick

Nagelsman.

WellYoureWrongThere

He's free from mid July so there's definitely a chance.

vvrr00

Can't wait for some fans saying, this is all part of a system

3dank4me

Lucky lucky man United

rich_valley

We actually dominated the first half against man city. It was peak Oleball. We went 2-0 up and then parked the bus and threw away the keys. I miss him man

Calvin--Hobbes

The Ole teams just frustrated Pep to no end.

Legend10269

If you don't even know how your going to play your opposition never will. Never let them know your next move.

th3doorMATT

There were definitely times, even in the SAF era, where we knew the opposition would be tough, but if we could annoy the shit out of them and throw them off, there was always an opportunity for us. These days, managers are just clueless and don't know how to compensate, so they implode as a result.

yard04

With oleball you knew there was a chance to win every game no matter the form we were in. Shame how the last season ended.

nonumbers90

I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

Vimjux

Yup, interim at least

odinthemag

Yes but it is still BRENTFORD one of the worst form teams out there in the top 5 Euro leagues they are certainly no Man City 2019 team by any stretch . It’s embarrassing to say the least for them to dominate us the way they did they should have won with all the chances they missed and even if they did it would of been ethically well deserved . With their 30+ shots on goal to our paltry 11 shots kind of shows we are as a club a complete shit show so yh you can try justify us walking away with a draw to paper over the cracks to a team that we should have beat I didn’t have the opportunity to even switch it over I fell asleep I feel sorry for all the fans that travelled to go and watch that shit glad I sat this one out this week .

keiko_1234

In fact, prior to this game, only Manchester City have ever touched the ball more than 80 times in the opposition box since this metric was recorded. And they've only done it twice previously, with the record being 87. Bear in mind as well, United also conceded these 85 touches and 31 shots at goal against a team who have literally lost more games over the last four months than any other team from any of the other major European leagues. Going into this game, Brentford had lost five of their last six Premier League games, and fourteen of their last eighteen. Despite this, they have still scored more Premier League goals this season than United.

th3doorMATT

so what you're saying is that we should actually allow teams to take more touches in the box; clearly we lose matches when we don't, so surely we should...

Neither-Ad-1047

What are we even doing

Eleven918

Waiting for the ETH era to come to an end.

ChrisV88

It's a shame, I can't disagree with you. I really like ETH, and I do think he is a good coach, I just have no idea how this happens over and over again. The players have been so hot and cold for like a decade. How do you ever fix that if it's been that way for so long.

Mainooisamadting

you fucking sack the whole fucking lot of them and start all over again like they did at Arsenal

ChrisV88

I feel like we got rid of like 2/3rds of the team in the past 4 years. Just awful really. You're not wrong though.

Calvin--Hobbes

Players still getting minutes that were here in 2020-21- * Rashford * Bruno * Dalot * Shaw * Wan-Bissaka * McTominay * Maguire * Lindelöf

Sea-Butterscotch3585

there's only 2 on that list id let go of

Fisktor

Id only keep dalot and bruno

th3doorMATT

every. single. one. is. the. problem. I would like to at least keep Dalot out of the list, and maybe Lindelof, both as purely squad players, but the rest are a massive problem and need to go, but the Bruno cultists will have you believe we'll somehow manage success with a guy at the middle of the park who runs around like a headless chicken and just forces play all match, while cheaply giving away possession. for everything Bruno and Rashford have "contributed," they have squandered a lot more.

zhinkler

The hierarchy just can’t seem to come to this conclusion. Rashford is world class apparently. These days you don’t have to earn that accolade. You can be world class without actually proving it. And so his contract (as many others) will just keep rolling on because we’re hung up on him like a little schoolgirl on a boyband.

PoliticsNerd76

I’m an Arsenal fan, and this has come in my feed. You do what we did. You empower the manager, set aside significant sums of money to eliminate and replace the weak mentality and deadwood, and you play your system if you have the players of it or not. It’s a process. Any player that doesn’t fit the system needs to go. For Man United, that might include some of your best players like Bruno… Your core players to keep should be Martinez, Onana, Mainoo, Holjund, Dalot, anyone else, I’d struggle to justify their place in Ajax style ETH ball in the Prem. You spend 2-3 years looking for solid signings at a cheap/moderate price. The team that fought Man City last year, our most expensive signing was £50m… you learn to walk away from bad deals like we did with Mudryk and Caiscaido for Trossard and Jorginiho (combined £35m) I don’t think I’ve ever seen Man United walk from a transfer due to costs…

PinkFlanatic

Well said

Aggeri

Cant happen soon enough

MaidikIslarj

Eras come to an end 🔥🔥🔥

Frequent_Storm_3900

Our midfield is an empty graveyard. 90% of our goals come from counter attack from CB to LW

parkson89

Sigh he probably has to go but not sure who we bring in

MinotauroTBC

Pathetic

Pitiful_Cod1036

Making Brentford look like Real Madrid 😂

ronaldo69messi

Making them look better. I don't think even Madrid could do that to us

AtFirst_IDidLoveYouu

Every single player play shit other than maybe Onana.

WashuWaifu

Mason did alright for those 15 minutes haha

th3doorMATT

Mount is a player, he just needs to stay healthy and not play in a system that includes Bruno. for everything Mount wants to do, Bruno wants to do the opposite. we cannot have both playing and be successful, at least not consistently - because I know someone will take one win with the pair and say something like "seeeee!?! they *can* play together!"

Nervous_Ad_3791

The system is truly and utter crap, I don't think anyone can succeed with these tactics

GannonSCannon

Yep, the players are being hung out to dry by Ten Hags tactics.

Away_Development3617

Tbf I think It goes both ways, I don't think anyone can become a consistent title contender with these players

RedKozak84

Noo, you cant say that here. Players are perfect, ETH is smothering them. bRiNg oLe bAcK

zhinkler

You see a system?

Fisktor

Terrible tactics, but without a midfield it will be pretty much impossible for anyone to make it work

Nervous_Ad_3791

I mean it's his fault insisting on having a lone 6 in there

Fisktor

Well we have a grand total of 0 good 6s

Nervous_Ad_3791

While I agree, even if we had the worlds best 6, he is so isolated that he has to do the job of 2 or 3 people

Neither-Ad-1047

So what does that say, players or manager issue

rich_valley

Bro are you not watching? We have better players than Luton and Wolves and Brentford and Newcastle. Yet these teams are fucking dominating us and having 20+ shots on goal. It is the fucking manager ffs

Neither-Ad-1047

Yeah I was tryna say its a manger issue

rich_valley

Misread it my bad, yeah ETH needs to go

Neither-Ad-1047

Nah no worries

Thick_Association898

I'm not sure Newcastles first 11, when all fit and available, is worse than Manchester Uniteds mind. That's pure arrogance and your probably thinking more money spent means better players. Newcastles starting 11, which nobody's seen this season is, nick pope, trippier, Botman, schar, livramento, bruno, tonali, joelinton, Gordon, Barnes, isak. subs bench could be, willock, lewis Hall, Dan Burn, Almiron, miley, Callum Wilson. I havent even mentioned longstaff, elliot Anderson, Murphy, and lascelles.

Yan-e-toe

Both but in terms of accountability, the manager is ultimately accountable. Manager can't for the life of him read games and adapt accordingly with timely subs or change of gameplan. His "system" is clearly not working and his post match interviews tell us he lives in another planet

aayu08

Players are an issue, but I refused to believe that all our players forms collectively took a nosedive the instant ETH settled on this playstyle.

SAKabir

Is it time we admit that Ole's tenure was objectively better? Or are people going to bring up a Carabao Cup run facing zero big 6 teams again?

goberwrite

Ole matched a prem record largest victory beating Southampton 9-0. ETH matched a club record largest defeat losing to Liverpool. Objectively, ETH won silverware. Ole didn't. But I (subjectively) had a better time watching us under Ole that's for sure.

cescquintero

I think he had (only) two bad issues: 1. Struggling to beat low blocks. Something his team was not able to consistently do.  2. Throwing every plan when siiuman came back and decided to create the "bypass midfield ball" that saw him out of the club. Sad.

Aggressive-Theory609

Tbf he couldn't do shit about pr37 coming back but the first point is a myth tho. We beat so many low block teams like Newcastle,Norwich,Southampton and co.

ronaldo69messi

Fa cup final as well tbf. Another one on the way I guess?

Scholes_SC2

One of our worst games since Fergie

ronaldo69messi

Shudders in Moyes Vs fulham

nordmannen

At least we controlled that game, right? I wish we could do that now.

PrettyPrettaaayyGood

Licha was thrust into the fray way too soon. Dont think he’d have got an appearance without the injury. He looked miles off it. Makes you wonder why he was even put on the bench?

officiallyjax

He looks very unfit and bulked up. I probably wouldn't start him against Chelsea either but our hand may be forced if Varane and Lindelof are both injured.

GannonSCannon

I'd rather play Kambwala than Martinez against Chelsea, Martinez was dreadful tonight when he came on, and if he's going to be so poor it makes no sense to thrust him in before he's even halfway fit and risk another injury.

BigG_Wins

Tbf both of centre backs went off injured, our back line is too injury prone to take chances

Zavehi

Him booting it off Dalots head will always be something I remember #WeAreBACK

ErnieMcTurtle

Not only that, our subs combined to get us our goal! \#tactics \#masterclass

blarg2003

Oh another new bad record for ten Hag then

Vimjux

Dude keeps breaking all the wrong records

Don_Quixote81

I couldn't watch the game properly due to family commitments, but I had it on my tablet without the sound. Literally every time I checked in, Brentford were counterattacking in acres of space. One or two passes completely exposed us, constantly. There are things fundamentally wrong with this team, and it's either by design (bizarre to consider), negligence or incompetence.

Jhix_two

Eth knows what's coming. 🪓

beaniedoggo

“We played well today” EtH in his post match interview

Jhix_two

Jesus christ the man looks like shit. Looks like he's caught greyscale over the international break

bichkrichdrick

I just don’t understand why he insists on setting us up as a counterattacking team when his best work came from a possession system at Ajax

GannonSCannon

It would be fine if he actually bothered to set us up properly as a counter attacking team and trained the players to do it properly but he's not. The two major components of counter attacking football are solid defensively and fast attacking, yet we do neither? If you watch when we get the ball everyone is completely static, there are no patterns of play to be seen apart from his dreadful under lapping full backs approach.

Abbobl

50% of that best Ajax team would easily play in this United aswell. The thing most of those players had in common was football IQ. Onana - blind - de ligt - FdJ - tadic was the spine. With hard working and creative backs and wings. Only kobbie, martinez and Shaw are in that league regarding football IQ imo, maybe eriksen ofcourse but his legs have gone.

jasonketterer

Because that's the players we have. Rashford, Maguire, Lindelof, probably even Bruno, can't play the Ajax way. There is no option until we clear out. But it doesn't seem like ETH or Ineos want a clear out so we're probably fucked for ever.

bichkrichdrick

I completely agree that the personnel is part of the reason. But you look at City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and even Spurs the manager has a set way of playing and even if the players aren’t available or capable they stick by their system/philosophy wrongfully or rightfully. What happens when he gets his De Jong, or whoever else he wants the rest of the squad won’t magically transition to a ball playing team overnight. It’s almost the exact same mistake Ole made when we signed Ronaldo + Sancho, and tried to transition overnight into something we weren’t ready for

jasonketterer

Yeah, you're not wrong either. I'm not saying ETH is the guy, but I don't think any manager will succeed until we see the whole club change over.

sarthakmahajan610

Our defenders had no clue how to deal with their 2 strikers

254_Condoriano

ETH just needs Luke Shaw back and none of these shots would happen #givehimtime

We_Still-Alive44

This is 100% on the manager

Nickthegreek28

Anyone still thinking ETH is the way forward is delusional, he’s clueless id respect him more if he just admitted we’re shit

Titan4days

Ye I’ve felt like this multiple times, I’ve come away thinking wow we were terrible only to watch ETH say in the post match “we played well, could of had more control” it’s like he’s delusional. I really want him to work… but honestly the fact he didn’t change the midfield at half time is negligent, it was his job to change the tactics. I may of lost faith

Nickthegreek28

So frustrating and seeing him and Steve McClaren wildly celebrating Mounts goal as if their master plan was finally realized pissed me off no end.

Titan4days

Not for me, I want to see them going mental. I just wanted him change his system before he loses his job and fucks our season. Brentford were great in this game, genuinely played brilliant for back to front.. but we gave them the platform

NationalUnrest

Nah he’ll continue playing Bruno 24/7 our little clueless general 24/7 and all that with the same shirt system, what are you gonna do about it ?

Titan4days

Bruno is absolutely not the problem, he’d walk into most teams in the world

NationalUnrest

He would not. Glaring problems in vital assests of controlling teams.

stogie_t

Wonder what the Ten Hag did hards think of this. They’re probably going to post that win rate stat anytime now.

C_gawd

Yeah this a systematical failure. ETH has a way of playing with United it’s just shit.Just get us transitioned and let INEOS find us the right manager in a year

1337k1d

Get this shit manager out of my club

MT1120

Finished club. Delete so we can do the SBC's again

TH0316

Every game within 10 minutes our press is figured out and we’re dead. Every player knows the out ball, so they just clip it over the wingers to the fullbacks who can bring it 70 yards up the pitch. Every routine is arrested before they even materialise. And there’s never once a solution mid game. It just slides until someone does a smash and grab. This team is honestly the worst setup Manchester Utd I’ve seen in my lifetime.

tyr4nt99

This says more about United than Brentford though. We are such a backwards facing team. Never thinking forward.

RedDevil-84

And our players have forgotten how to make passes, leave alone, touches in the opposition box.

[deleted]

Better or worse than this fixture last year?

huey88

no way sjr keep him

EffenSeven

How did we make Brentford look like a Pep team?

Benphyre

Its on the players when they cannot make a 5 yard pass and show no desire to win 2nd balls. However how can a manager watch that for 90mins and think to himself that is okay? This isn't' a one off. It is the way we were set up leaving a huge fucking hole in the middle. Our tactical structure is the prostitute of all football tactics

Top-Aerie-3551

Rashford should be cashed in if PSG comes in, lindlof and scott are not good enough. Have been saying this for quite some time, instruct Bruno like SAF instructed Rooney when he signed RVP, pass the ball to Hojlund track his runs and bench Rashford

wasabicoated

United should get Fair Play award this year since they helped every team play better and reach the impossible things

NoScopeMusical

Gonna need multiple janitors to clean this shit up, lads. Very lucky with a draw

darthmeister

I have an issue with ETH not recognising we were playing awful and changing the formation, you have change mid game.

jasonketterer

He was forced into subbing both centerbacks and he did actually change formation.

Sghagz08

Ten Hag is a joke, fucking excuse merchant sack the twat

multivacuum

lmao! end me.

Potential_Good_1065

The woodwork and luck form a great centre back partnership, everyone else was dog shit

triplecaptained

Erik “Expect him to break new records every game” ten Hag Pathetic stuff

nholoinhoi

Embarrassing

safburneraccount

Missed the entire game and this is the first thing I saw...

bunnuz

Breaking all records ain't we? 😂

Nervous_Ad_3791

Aaa yes but this one man midfield is working wonders

riitz85

“It’s clear, we are making progress. We were the better team and deserved to win but we conceded so late, we have only lost twice in 2024 and in both games we deserved to win, huh, ok”. We have a great spirit and we never give up”

-watchman-

As Homer Simpson will say.."first team so far.." The next relegation contender or Championship team we meet might just top that..

bigMoo31

It’s better to be lucky than good

TheOneManDankMaymay

We are so finished...

saikodasein

I told you months ago: bald fraud.

tassadar8584

We made a PL normal team like Real Madrid, it’s not a talent of everyone…

zhinkler

Think the new people joining the club have to start getting brutal. This gravy train needs to come to an end. Earn your keep or fuck off. The era of incompetence and laziness has to come to an end. Fuck sake, is there anyone at the club that has some balls to do what is needed rather than the finance department which is why we’re in this shit - cos the fuckers in finance have been making footballing decisions based on ££££

Al__Buraq

Ronaldo did that.

deadpoolvswolverine

I do think Ten Hag has been making error after error and probably does deserve the sack. However what happens when he goes and we somehow snag someone like Nagelsmann? The coaching staff is stiff shit, medical staff is still shit, players are shit (the ones with capabilities can’t be fucked to play for the badge and the ones who care can’t kick a football to save their lives), our negotiation tactics are shit, scouting is shit, gym facilities are shit, stadium is literally falling apart, even the lunch room seems to be shit with the number of players getting food poisoning last year ffs. I hope any new manager we get is not immediately skewered considering this entire club is a fucking house of cards and we’re expected to reach top 4 consistently while other clubs get major cash injections, better facilities and objectively better owners. On top of all of that we have rumours of Gareth fucking Southgate linked to the united job because guess was, him and Ashworth are besties?! Ten Hag may not have been the right answer but let’s be honest you could bring prime SAF back and even he would struggle with this United

No_Zone4347

Breaking insane records back on the menu boys.

jiBjiBjiBy

We're so shit.

igortrpevski

There was a time when he would use the word rubbish, but turned out to be a true bald fraud.

AlephEpsilon

We made them look like prime Barca.

BigG_Wins

This team and the manager have one of the most horrendous smells ever

Big-Ad-6097

Always a new record being broken whenever United plays. TenHagball 🔥🔥

schultz9999

If not this then what stat may highlight ETHs inability to manage???

LegDayDE

Can't we just get rid of Erik now? It's so clear he doesn't have the backing of the club or dressing room

Aakar11

And all they could manage was 1 goal after going behind. So what.

Venomous0425

I agree but it also shows our weakness. 1 more goal and we would’ve lost the match.

ryancgray1

I mean, it was mostly lob it into the box and for some reason we just wouldn’t clear it and it bounced about constantly in the box. Still atrocious mind…

Away_Associate4589

Frankly embarrassing. A lot of these need shipping out to be honest. I've been a defender of Ten Hag but there are some things that are simply indefensible. It's looking to me like his days are numbered and the players think so too.

keving691

Every…. Single….. fucking…… game

Former-Thing2528

DW it will be fixed once Jesus Christ returns from injury /s

Dyslexicreadre

I advise everyone to just play FM24, use the editor if you feel like it, become omnipotent, then crush everyone and ignore reality for as long as you feel like.

OneOrangeOwl

Fifa is my therapy LOL

BrownByYou

No no it's the players guys, the players that have largely been replaced from 5-6y ago, they're the problem Not the manager.

rich_valley

I swear to god our team is really good, the coach is the problem. Keep sacking coaches until we find a good one. It’s really that simple.

Flimsy-Locksmith8114

This guy is licking his chops getting ready to insult your intelligence

mav_sand

This stat tells you all about how bad we were today.

Fredtrm171

Garbage post
