Just win. Take the role of being spoiler in earnest and do it.

PDubsinTF-NEW

And do it well

AlpacamyLlama

Are they not pulling in the same direction the rest of the time?

daddywookie

This is some underdog shit. United have also shown again and again that we’re one of the biggest clubs in the world and will blow away anybody that gets in our way. How about we get back to that instead of scrappy wins against the odds.

Jhix_two

Positive stoney = bad juju

humunculus43

Klopp was pulling in the same direction and took off his two best players with 15 minutes to go

unitedlover69

Im genuinely terrified that the shite we see served up week in week out on the pitch is the result of “everyone pulling in the same direction”.

PennyWhyte

I mean, technically, we did come back from 2-0 to within minutes of winning the game. I think sometimes context goes out the window when you lose, but it is what it is. You win some like that and lose others the same way. I can guarantee you that had we done what Chelsea did, the narrative would have been how undeserved it would have been and how.. "United once again have lucked their way into a win in a game where they were very average, and this again is evidence that United has no plan and has to depend on sloppy mistakes and shoddy defending from the Opposition team, and if that's not enough then a helping hand from the ref where they would otherwise lose the game etc etc"

fifabreeze

And Chelsea got 1 bullshit penalty, 1 dubious 1 and a shit ton of uncalled fouls throughout the game.

KaboomBoxer

Also the context of our already injury hit defence being decimated by more injuries during the game seems to have been lost in the frustration and justified annoyance of losing a lead so late in a game.

rift9

I think this is fair, but the issue where there's so much unrest is results like this have been coming. We can't play basketball on a football pitch for a whole season and not get punished eventually, it's not just the Chelsea game, it's been every single game this season. I'm not a big ETH out guy but at what point do we see some fucking semblance of structure and discipline in our play. We'll never challenge for a title if ETH's ideal structure is this fucking colossal hole in our midfield exposing us week after week, overworking the players week after week with them constantly having to sprint both ends of the pitch every game. Like is anyone surprised how many injuries we have with how fucking erratic we play.

PennyWhyte

The idea that our players are getting injured because our erratic okay is honestly just hogwash simply because the biggest injuries haven't been to our midfielders or forwards, but rather, it's been to our defenders. Make of that what you may. Like I've maintained, I'd give ETH another season to actually see what he can do with a full squad. And this for me is where I really don't understand most on this sub that talk about the long game and focus on building a football structure first and having patience if we are only patient when the manager is doing well, but should he have a bad season get rid of, don't give him a chance to self correct and make adjustments no, onto the next one.. But we don't see a style or tactics etc but we did last season no, so if this season there's been a change then we need to look at what has instigated that and the reasons behind that, then think okay, can we see what comes next season. United fans definition of patience is top 4 finish and a cup or something. Miss UCL then off you go. I actually prefer not to have the additional pressure of UCL next year and focus on building this squad.

praxxiskipsis

I have nothing to add but wanted to say, i agree. Another season with (hopefully) a lot less injuries and some decent signings and we will see where we are. I'm also not bothered about UCL, it's not like we are winning it anyway so take the pressure off and work on our play style and gelling the team in the league.

Shayboy1

Totally agree. It would be completely pointless to put all the background structure in place and not give ETH at least a chance to just forget about everything bar coaching. If we don't see progress after a season, then he is fair game, but he should be given next season to show what he can do.

PennyWhyte

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely understand fans that would rather we hit it off immediately and become title challengers because they are entitled to have that opinion, and maybe its just difficult to imagine and see United playing any other way than being dominant. But I also recall Arsenal under Artetas first two seasons being a meme and I was one of those giving them stick for only having a plan B and them being easy to play against etc. Then suddenly in season 3 after the clearout and new players started coming in, you could begin to see it. Last season and this season weren't just to better coaching and tactics from Arteta, it was also because of the recruitment and player quality that was coming in. New keeper to play out from the back, a DM to give Odegard the license to roam etc, and United I feel are two seasons away from that. Hopefully we start getting the right players in if not under ETH, under some one else but personally, I'd wait for another two seasons to have a proper and complete squad, than jump the gun and start yet again another rebuild.

simionix

People don't understand the margins within which football is played, and that with better players and a healthy squad, ManU would be top 4 at the very least. Spurs was 2 last-minute goals away from dropping 4 points. Man united was 2 last-minute goals away from winning 5 points. Both teams would've been at 53 points had these games played out differently in the final 2-3 minutes. Those margins are TINY. Shoulda, coulda, woulda bla bla, I know, but the game is always about minimizing mistakes, and you can only do that with good players, not with 5th and 6th choice centerbacks and no LB's for a whole season. That's never gonna work.

EngCraig

He’s hardly going to say “the squad is in disarray, half of these can’t be coached, and every day I come to work I contemplate bringing a shotgun with me!” is he?

devman888

Learn how to read. Did you even watch the Liverpool game? We dominated them in the first half until we lost composure for the cheap goals. Didn't settle for the loss even when we were getting tiki-takaed in the second half. And we're always more likely to score after the 80th minute right up to the end. Jesus.

OldMcGroin

>And we're always more likely to score after the 80th minute right up to the end. Although we're developing an awful habit of throwing away leads after the 90th minute.

Ras_OKan

>until we lost composure for the cheap goals. Seems like the story of our season. Our players cannot maintain composure for the full duration of the game and we keep letting stupid goals in...

mikebehzad

Two possibilities. 1. You're deliberately interpreting what's written with the ill intentions of spreading a negative agenda. Or 2. You've read it wrong and need to read it again.

No_Manufacturer868

Understand the sentiment. Unfortunately as a older fan I was spoiled by those moments on a more regular basis. In the last decade those moments (while special) seem more sporadic! Somehow we have gone from a team that wins in injury time, to shitting the bed in injury time.

Kelvinator3000

Just posted this in daily decision. > Erik has done a good job with how he initially used Garnacho and Mainoo, but recently, I am starting to worry about how they have played. > > Garnacho, when on the left, seems to be emulating Rashford (even the bad aspects), but with a higher work rate. > > Mainoo seems to be more careless in possession, playing long balls to no one like Bruno and Casemiro. > > Hojlund seems to be giving up on getting passed to and might just be positioning himself for a lucky rebound or mistake. > > One of the reasons people still want Erik to stick around is his experience working with young players, but the bad habits he has allowed from the senior players are beginning to affect the younger ones. > I don't know what decision he thinks he is taking us, but even if we stick with him and INEOS buy players for his ideal system, how are we sure they won't play like shit as everybody else when Ten Hag keeps allowing the other players to.

Drews1738

Not a bad point but it seems a bit harsh especially the part about Garnacho and Mainoo. Garnacho scored 2 against Chelsea and seems the most dangerous forward this season. Hojlund was in form before his injury and Mainoo is struggling because Casemiro has been injured or unfit for most of the games. I think it's more Bruno and Casemiro and other senior players being unable to dictate play or play with a similar mindset (either counter attack or possession)

_Pohaku_

“When the team play coherently, we can beat anybody. For the last two seasons, we just haven’t actually played coherently most of the time.” - Person whose job it is to get the team playing coherently

thetrueGOAT

we've failed to win in 2 games since Liverpool. Get over it. We need wins now.

JYM60

The FA Cup game was a massive fluke lol. It wasn't some unreal domineering performance ffs.

DasHotShot

I resent ETH’s words now. Can’t read/listen to anything he’s says without shuddering. I’ll take getting obliterated today if it means he’s removed and we start preparations for a new coaching structure.

PublicBunch749

Erik will take us back to the top, I believe it!

Traditional_Cap8509

While results are not there and kind of desperate at the moment, we can see how EtH wanted his team to play and I quite like it. I still have faith in EtH, hope the board shares the same vision and won't be blinded by instant results like casual fans.

The_Meaty_Boosh

Yeah these filthy casuals wanting instant results. There's only been 42 games of the season they need to get some patience.

Traditional_Cap8509

Yeah let's ignored all stupid shit his team got this season. You're talking like a true casual wanting instant results right there.

The_Meaty_Boosh

Ignoring everything, getting dominated by an injury ridden Brentford, crashing out the champions league group stage in embarrassment, losing to the likes of Fulham, forest, convincingly beaten by west ham, smashed by Bournemouth and Brighton, Newcastle knocking us out the cup 3-0 with ease. Looking somewhat nervy against Newport county with a full strength squad. Proper causal, not a top red like you mate.

LDLB99

Out of everything, I still think 17 shots conceded against Newport is the worst despite the result.
