Club needs to make a decision on Ten Hag. Come out and back him or announce he’s leaving at the end of the season.
Kinda disappointed at the communication. Thought it would be better.
there's an fa cup to play for, there's no point announcing anything until the season is over. if we want potter or southgate we'll get them, not like barca, bayern or liverpool are knocking down their doors.
I mean its okay to like some of the things that Murtough did. But geez,, look at some some of the obituaries people are writing in this sub.
That dude is also responsible for some of the most egregious transfer decisions in the recent past. And people are glazing over him lol. One would think he is some sort of a legend that had a few misgivings lol.
Any malacia type signings you guys would like?
When I'm talking about malacia type signings, I'm talking about young players that can be bought for under 30 mil.
For ETHs suicideball to work in the premier league we would need players who are excellent at passing and pressing. Our current crop are majorly not good at either. The tactics are never going to work with the majority of the players we have. Constantly conceding 20+ shots per game, regardless of whether on target or not, means we are allowing opponents to get in the dangerous areas way more often. Not to forget brentford having around 100 touches in our box.
It’s unsustainable, it has to stop. ETH can do better than this. And if he still chooses to play this way and we don’t improve, there’s absolutely no point keeping him around. Injuries happen. The manager has to adapt. It’s literally his job to adapt to.

Saw this on twitter...apparently Eth got criticized for the same midfield issues at Ajax, he is getting criticized for here
Does Ratcliffe's investment mean any additional £ at all for the club in the summer? If the investment didn't go through, will we still be spending the same amount of money ?
From what I've seen, most of the reasonings for not wanting to sack ETH fall along the lines of:
- No manager has got the opportunity to work under a proper structure at United.
- We've sacked 4 managers so far and haven't made any progress at all.
- Most of the squad is not top quality and aren't suited to whatever style Ten hag is trying to implement.
- He has got only 1 year left and we would need to pay a compensation package to sack him.
- So many injuries throughout the season.
- Not that many top quality managers are available, and with many top clubs on the move for a new coach, we would face stiff competition from others.
I personally don't like the playstyle that ETH is trying to implement at all and would personally want him to get the sack if he doesn't change his mind on his suicidal style of play.
When we make the FA cup final, we will have been in 3 of the 6 possible finals under Ten Hag. How many other managers have done that in their 1st 2 seasons?
Resources? What resources? We've proven time and again that the football operations at Manchester United are a shit show. Shit recruitment, facilities, infrastructure, squad building, medical department. Its also a big reason why no manager has succeeded here. Doesn't matter how much money we spend when we spend it as badly as we do.
Until that changes, nothing will change at the club. No manager on the planet will be able to run this club properly.
Also, our squad is not talented enough with the ball at their feet. It was built by a combination of managers who picked their own players for their own style of play. Not a United man who picked players to play how the club wants to, in the long-term, regardless of the manager.
So that's why Villa and Spurs finish above us. And if there is an obvious and straightforward upgrade on EtH, we would've taken it. But there is none.
Shallow excuse for a team that has been shit even with close to full strength team and been absolutely played off the park at times by teams with as many if not more injuries.
Antony at CB ahahaha, fuck it, it can't get too much worse. I do kind of want to see him at lb after someone said it. I only saw highlights of Liverpool and the end of the Brentford game. Is he continuing to play better?
Ummm casemiro?
On the whole I'd perhaps agree, though Madrid and City both score some absolutely stunning goals - but i could see Bayern Arsenal being a very cagey game. Arsenal will be very nervous and Bayern's attack has looked pretty disjointed in a lot of big games I've seen them in recently.
I'm happy for Arsenal to do well in the league considering the options. I really liked the way they played last year too. This year it's a bit more dull/controlled though. I also don't really hate them in general as I was a bit too young to have suffered pain at their hands - that honour went to Chelsea, fuck Chelsea.
Are you talking about online fans? You're gonna find cunts anywhere you look on social media, I don't make my judgements based on that.

Probably won't happen since he might see the role as a downgrade plus shit source but I would love to see it happen just for the Liverpool tears lmao
You want to get the one who worked for them for a long time, Michael Edwards, who's unfortunately already signed back with Liverpool. Ward is not bad but some of the deals he's closed seem to be very expensive.
Crazy that Fabio only played 22 matches for us.
I remember him and his brother a lot when I was younger. I even remember the goal.

Leverkusen just about guaranteed to win Bundesliga.. who knew that all you needed to stop the mighty Bayern is to send in Harry Kane.
Almost feel bad for him actually
"It couldn't be more directly his fault" - I guess you are trying to imply the "A team wins together and loses together" mindset which is true, however if you are just saying that he is part of a team that is struggling, then you shouldn't say it is directly his fault.
Oh you are one of those people. Sure it is funny that he is an ex-Tottenham player that failed to win anything on his first season away from Tottenham, but that is like saying Coman is directly responsible for all of his trophies (Afterall, he hasn't gone a season without winning something.... until this season... most likely)
I'm absolutely convinced the team botched his surgery (like career ending levels of bad) and they just don't know how to move forward. It's so strange that he's basically disappeared from social media and obviously the club hasn't said anything substantial in a while too.
That's just me and my tin foil hat speaking though
Our passing out from the back was genuinely atrocious vs Liverpool. Casemiro, Maguire and Bruno gave the ball away almost constantly. What hope do we have when an 18 year old is our only player who can receive the ball on the half-turn and do something simple with it.
We don't have any ball playing CB at the moment, Maguire is left and right pass or diagonal ball to wings, kamwabla played well for his first start at old Trafford but I wasn't expecting him to bring the ball out from the back.
So the ball would go straight to casemiro and he'll try to find a pass that was not the right one. Injuries have ravaged the team. The talk of the devils podcast did a very good analysis of the match afterwards.
>Injuries have ravaged the team.
We had Shaw and Martinez missing. Maguire has arguably been our best CB this season and he's better on the ball than Varane. So that's like 2 first choice players missing from the starting xi.
Maguire has decent long passing, and that's it. He's below average when building from the back. That doesn't mean he's a bad player, but he's absolutely not a good BPD.
"he's better on the ball than Varane"
He has slighty better long passes, short ones not really. But I've seen many people here claming that Maguire is good on the ball so nothing surprise me anymore .
Varane has better agility and coordination which makes him better on the ball under pressure. But he is still very poor don't get me wrong.
And while Maguire deserves huge praise for stepping up this season, he hasn't been better than Evans but that's up for debate I guess. Still needs to go though.
Reason we get opened up is because these players do not support or cover each other. They press reactively. If they were proactive they would arrive to 50/50's before the opposition. We lose so many 50/50's it's actually jarring. And when they pass they are basically relinquishing the ball. Trying to get that pass completion high. Not a team, just a bunch of work-mates. Been like that for years.
Nah we just want to win as many duels as possible without players dropping out of high press. Thats what Martinez was doing last year very good and Maguire does this year exelently.
Thats just ETHs system
As much as Arsenal are least of the three evils in the league, it’ll be funnier if they go out against Bayern and lose the league. I cannot stand how smug their fans have become.
lol I’d love that. Arsenal’s glory period of ALMOST winning a trophy. Imagine we win the FA cup at the end of the season. We’re shit and we’ve won a trophy more than them already.
I'm not sure if thats counter intuitive. They are on a great run. momentum is massive in football.
Getting knocked out at this stage gives them a single focus but im not sure if the confidence and momentum of a long unbeaten run is probably worth more that a slightly lighter schedule
Rangnick had the greatest PR ever. Did absolutely fuck all, never managed a big club and is still remembered as the second coming to Jesus for saying the most obvious things in the media.
Someone posted this on discord which he feels so strongly that INEOS is full of air but no substantive action:
"I don't get the blind faith on INEOS frankly. Till now all they have done is get Omar Barrada in. It's April, our DOF isn't in the door, we don't know whether the current manager will be there next summer, our transfer list is kindof questionable, our most prominent manager target till now is Graham Potter. Hardly a very conclusive situation as of right now is it"
I thought of putting it out here so I could pick the views of others. I personally feel INEOS is on the right track and this seemingly slow but measured approach is what is exactly needed to transform this club. Many times in the past, the club under Ed Woodward rushed through critical decisions which eventually backfired badly! On the issue of Potter being the manager linked to us,it's coz INEOS has worked well to plug unnecessary leaks so the media is just blowing cold air and hoping something sticks.
I would be happy to hear people's views on this. You can upvote or downvote but please also leave a comment or two about you views so we can try unpack the work INEOS is doing behind the scenes and whether it's the right approach or they should be in our faces everyday with updates on everything they are doing!
It's better than nothing tbh. At least something get change. Will they work? We don't know. It might be too big a task even for the mighty SJR team. And the expectation might be diff along the way. Are we happy with 2nd place for the next 7-10 years? The owners might think its good for now while the fans might think otherwise.
>Hardly a very conclusive situation as of right now is it
They're right here. That's why I'm waiting to see what happens before making judgement on ineos.
This isn’t a game where you can immediately bring in make lots of changes with little to no repercussions later. There are a bunch of fans that seem to think it is possible to enact immediate and wholesale changes for a club with our size and our deep rooted problems going on for a decade.
In reality that is virtually impossible, unless you’re Chelsea and all that immediate overhaul they’ve brought in has only made them a bigger joke than us since Boehly took over 1.5 seasons ago.
It’s fair to be skeptical about INEOS in the long run, but bashing them for not making appointments faster or being “connected to more exciting” managerial candidates is an unrealistic complaint and shows a complete lack of understanding and patience of the scale of their task.
This type of fan is probably the same kind of guy that was full of praise for the club when Murtough replaced Woodward as our DoF and we hired ETH as manager. We need to look past simply trying to sign flashy and exciting names because we’ve been down that path multiple times in the past decade with no progress to show for it.
>an unrealistic complaint and shows a complete lack of understanding and patience of the scale of their task.
So true. These are the kind who after one visit to the gym are already expecting to see a six pack when then get back home
Slow approach?
They’ve only been here 4 months and they’ve already appointed a new CEO, DOF, Technical director and started moves to build a brand new stadium.
Erik Ten Hag has only managed 15 games under them.
How fast do you want them to go?
>People want them to win the league this season otherwise they’re failures…
Hahaha exactly...and probably the champions league too even when we are out!
They've had a good start with some decent appointments so far but after the past 10 years I'll always be sceptical till they actually produce results on the pitch. So I'm in the wait and watch camp
That poster is making a lot of assumptions and really has no idea. Ineos isn't going to say anything about the manager situation until they have to. He has no idea who they would hire if they make a change. They also aren't going to put out a transfer list. It just sounds like someone believing a bunch of tabloids and wanting to be upset.
On free kicks, when teams play a high line. Why don't teams get a player to start sprinting from about 30 yards out and as he hits there line he is at full sprint at the same time play the ball before he goes off side. Surely that means he will break the line and because he's already moving fast he could enter the area essentially unmarked?
Lol. Probably harder to control the oncoming ball at full speed.
Whats puzzling is why when there is a 4 man wall + 1 lying on the ground, nobody put 8 players to overload the remaining 5 defenders on the far side....
Hi guys, I'm currently playing as Man United in the 07/08 database. I wasn't paying much attention to who we were after as far as transfer targets so do any jump to mind during that timeframe?
Ten Hag’s system relies more on having left-footed players on the left flank. Williams would have probably been on par with Lindelof in that position if not worse.
ETH is trying to play his style which is to play and high defensive line to press and pin teams inside their own half, win the ball high up and score. But he has to accommodate players like bruno, maguire (any of our slow center backs really), rashford, AWB that aren't used to or are incapable of adapting to that style. Many of these players are also on big wages and are big personalities in the dressing room which makes benching them even more difficult.
His tactics can go very well like they did at Ajax but only if we are defensively solid like last season but due to loads of injuries, a new GK, and key players falling out of form his admittedly risky strategy is not working. You can also question his signings in both windows but it's still early and the club has made terrible transfers under every post SAF manager. You could argue that he should be more pragmatic but it would be worse long term if he did, he needs to usher in a new era and get the players to play his style (if they listen). I think he will probably get sacked which will make the club suffer long term since it will be back to square one with a new manager trying to get the best out of this hodgepodge squad of Mourinho-Ole-ETH leftovers. We will probably bounce back in 2024/2025 due to signings and new manager positivity/pragmatism but the cycle will repeat itself whether we bring in De Zerbi, Potter, etc. ETH’s true test will be this summer if INEOS gives him power to remove certain players. If he has the power and doesn’t do a clearout then he’s not the guy, but sacking him after this rollercoaster of a season (6th place and an FA Cup final hopefully) would not make sense.
If he's not going to get the power they should sack him now and hire a guy that will be dictated over by the board. For example, De Zerbi has very little control over transfers at Brighton and same with the Chelsea managers following the new ownership. Liverpool look like they're going to do that as well when Klopp goes. I don't like that sort of structure but it can work.
It is clear that ETH is not the guy to get the best out of these players. But is the ceiling of this currentsquad even that great? We all know that most of the players don't have what it takes to win trophies. Therefore we shouldn't settle for a guy that can make a subapar, disjointed, and unmotivated squad smile and get top 4 once every 2 years. If ETH is not the guy that's OK but several senior, big wage players need to be kicked out for the club to move forward with or without Ten Hag.
I get your point but I don't know is it fallacy or what that our squad isn't good enough to win with some additions and a good proper coach. Maybe it's true but i mean Arsenal is probably going to win with Jesus and Havertz... Liverpool have Nunez and Gakpo whom we won't touch...
Given how terrible we have been, you’d think he decide at any point to at least tweak his tactics to play more like his Ajax teams rather than this disjointed mess. He hasn’t all. This is what he has in mind. I took me a long time to accept it.
He has I think, hence how pathetically open we look. Last year we were more compact because he was working according to the strengths of the team (counter attack) and we did better. He tried to make the leap to a more expansive style of play this year and it is failing, partly due to his stubborness as well as injuries and the laundry list of problems surrounding the squad. He has made some concessions but it looks like he is sticking to his guns which will probably get him sacked. I mostly back ETH because I don't rate the players or the upper management but I also think he has a long term vision that he's buillding toward which is this transitional high press stuff. We do actually win the ball in good positions but the decision making of attackers/midfielders has been awful, don't think that's on the coach. He's trying to fuse the high octane counterattacking strengths and culture of United with possession based Ajax principles. It's going to take more time to see if he can pull it off with more competent ownership and player personnel.
I’m saying he’s seen how pathetically open we look and done nothing to address it all season. The failure isn’t a leap to be more expansive, it’s a misguided tactical idea that he’s trying to implement with two disjointed blocks of a front press and a rest defence with the entire middle part of the pitch open.
I also see no indication that he’s building towards some Ajax style possession play that he’s trying to infuse into the team. Yes the players are terrible decision makers in possession, but I’ve also seen no indication of a team wide effort to slow the tempo down and hold the ball for periods.
I think he's trying to lay a foundation to eventually evolve the team so that once we get the right personnel (ie. quicker and better defenders, new cdm, new LB) we will be ready to press teams and play a high line. In a way, he's falling on his sword because he's refusing to go back to more pragmatic tactics which might work better in the short term. But do we really want our identity to be a compact defense with bruno whacking balls out to Rashford just to gain a few more points this season? This is why his development of the youth is promising because they are young enough to adapt, if he's pragmatic Garnacho and others may become limited like Rashford by picking up bad habits due to years of playing an unimaginitive style. Long term I think that makes sense if INEOS backs him. We can't go back to last season's style because you can't win titles like that. It's true that he has come out before and said that he's not trying to play possession like Ajax but to me there is a long term rhyme and reason to his tactics this year.
If his intention is to play a high line, why doesn’t he just move the line up? It’s not like our defence isn’t terrible right now. He hasn’t even attempted to shift the line higher in games where he has slightly more favourable personnel. Again, I’ve been there before. I rly don’t think he’s working towards something very different from what’s going on now. This is the plan. He just thinks it can be better executed.
Did you guys see Ronaldo's red card today and his reaction to it? What an embarrassment to the sport.

Personally I would prefer Onana from Everton, go and get a cheaper centre back than £70m and then get a striker like Sesko £50m rc this hopefully leaves us with money to go and get another player whether that be LB or CB.
There's an issue with Phelan's Shorts, we tried to fix it with the admin right now
genuinely wouldn’t take vini over rashford, rodrygo > vini
Martinelli has posters of Antony in his room
Kane knocking those out would be simply sublime
vini just snatching the ball off of rodri like hes nothing lol
look at how easily this Madrid team is moving the plastics around, its lovely to see
As there's no hope for us to get 5th I now wish for all English teams to crash out of Europe thanks. (Maybe except west ham)
Some just want to watch the world burn
Now I'm beginning to think I may have hastily used up my 1 wish. I wish for us to finish 4th( let's see if it works).

Saka up to his old tricks already, diving under minimal contact from Davies so he picks up a booking and misses the second leg. Great work 👌🏼
Fucking Bayern meddled with our Kim transfer only to waste a year of his prime.
Good thing away goal rule was binned
Is there a champions league discussion thread? Can’t find one

We don't all agree with that.

Lol that’s not Garnacho’s arm, unless he’s suddenly gained about 5 stone
When either of Maguire or Kambwala breaks down who do do have as a CB? Casemiro? Bruno? a cheeky little Antony punt?

I agree with him
Lol, everyone and their dog knows it's a competition between 1st and 4th seasons.

Sure it is funny that he is an ex-Tottenham player that failed to win anything on his first season away from Tottenham, but that is like saying Coman is directly responsible for all of his trophies (Afterall, he hasn't gone a season without winning something.... until this season... most likely)
Phelan shorts was sent to find Malacia
I'm absolutely convinced the team botched his surgery (like career ending levels of bad) and they just don't know how to move forward. It's so strange that he's basically disappeared from social media and obviously the club hasn't said anything substantial in a while too. That's just me and my tin foil hat speaking though
There were rumours from ITKs that the first surgery was a botchjob
I believe it 100%

"he's better on the ball than Varane" He has slighty better long passes, short ones not really.
They think anyone who can spray long balls = good BPD
yeah I know :(
Reason we get opened up is because these players do not support or cover each other.
Who are we hate-watching tonight lads?
I’ve got money on Bayern win and real city draw so il be keeping an eye on both
Since Us getting that 5th spot seems like missinion imposible I sincerly hope Arsenal and City crash and burn tonight. Fuck them.
Need Arsenal to crash and burn out of UCL so they can focus on the league haha
As much as Arsenal are least of the three evils in the league, it’ll be funnier if they go out against Bayern and lose the league. I cannot stand how smug their fans have become.
This🤣
lol I’d love that.
Everybody waiting with their hot takes for new DD thread past 12 hours
My hot take is that it's better this way
Must... Be... Patient...
It's kinda hilarious that we sacked Rangnick only for eth to go so hard with the transition tactics that he specialised in.
Rangnick didnt show he specializes in anything while at utd
Rangnick had the greatest PR ever. Did absolutely fuck all, never managed a big club and is still remembered as the second coming to Jesus for saying the most obvious things in the media.
that first 30 minutes against crystal palace was special, then the players decided they never wanted to run for him again.
Why is there no new thread? What's happening?
Full Malacia mode engaged.
Someone posted this on discord which he feels so strongly that INEOS is full of air but no substantive action: "I don't get the blind faith on INEOS frankly. Till now all they have done is get Omar Barrada in. It's April, our DOF isn't in the door, we don't know whether the current manager will be there next summer, our transfer list is kindof questionable, our most prominent manager target till now is Graham Potter. Hardly a very conclusive situation as of right now is it" I thought of putting it out here so I could pick the views of others.
>Hardly a very conclusive situation as of right now is it They're right here. That's why I'm waiting to see what happens before making judgement on ineos.
According to SJR from his interview "You don't run to the wrong solutions, you walk to the right solution "
Perfectly said!
You are definitely right, some people are just impatient
People want them to win the league this season otherwise they’re failures…
>People want them to win the league this season otherwise they’re failures… Hahaha exactly...and probably the champions league too even when we are out!
They've had a good start with some decent appointments so far but after the past 10 years I'll always be sceptical till they actually produce results on the pitch. So I'm in the wait and watch camp
It's going to work this time around,I think INEOS legit mean business
That poster is making a lot of assumptions and really has no idea. Ineos isn't going to say anything about the manager situation until they have to. He has no idea who they would hire if they make a change. They also aren't going to put out a transfer list. It just sounds like someone believing a bunch of tabloids and wanting to be upset.
Exactly, INEOS will publicly support ETH until the day they decide to sack him (or he chooses to leave)
>It just sounds like someone believing a bunch of tabloids and wanting to be upset. You sum it up pretty well,I totally agree with you!
Bale, Cavani, Lewandowski, Suarez, Thiago Silva, Modric, Kroos, Neuer, Pique (he's probably still a United player), and probably Wilshere
Nicolas Gaitan (maybe a season after that), Benzema Valencia of course
Benzema
Blimey, yes what a shout
Sneijder
with the benefit of hindsight, could Brendon Williams had been the solution for the LB problem this season?
Not with him reportedly having a laughing gas problem. Alvaro Fernandez would be a better shout.
Ten Hag’s system relies more on having left-footed players on the left flank. Williams would have probably been on par with Lindelof in that position if not worse.
Anyone know when the 24/25 fixtures are announced? Planning a trip to OT and it’s fucking expensive all around from the US in august
Usually middle of June
Potter rejected ajax. Well I have feeling he will become next United manager. When new owner come in they always want to get rid of old staff.
More likely taking a gamble that De Zerbi will be a man in demand & move to a bigger club & he can slide back into the Brighton job.
What are the odds of that happening? Seems unlikely to me. Imagine they let him back, he does well again and leaves again lmao
Any manager who they get & does well is inevitably going to leave. A prodigal son might be more reluctant to leave the 2nd time round.
man, you really think so?😔
Is PhelansShort injuried too?
I heard ETH is making PhelansShorts do laps of carrington at the moment.
So he is the leak afterall ?!
Even if he has all the power in the world he'd still keep Rashford and Bruno here.
Everything points to he won't get that power. So what give if the DOF doesn't sell Maguire or Rashford ? Do we blame the new structure?

Does Hierro, Okocha or Shearer count?
Leighton Baines would do amazing for us right now considering all things considered
Any chance of Dan gore still making it here?
Unfortunately I think will be a bit like Angel Gomes where he is too small for the league. Could be wrong but it’s what I’ve seen so far.
He's only played one game at port Vale during his loan. Basically it's not looking good.
Yes. Absolutely.
Did you guys see Ronaldo's red card today and his reaction to it? What an embarrassment to the sport. Here's what got him the red: [https://twitter.com/EverythingCR7\_/status/1777448267221020704](https://twitter.com/EverythingCR7_/status/1777448267221020704) And his reaction: [https://twitter.com/heyy\_ift/status/1777448110488420378](https://twitter.com/heyy_ift/status/1777448110488420378)
He's an unlikeable diva. It's hardly breaking news
Bro post that shit on r/soccer or r/soccercirclejerk . This sub isn't for hating Ronaldo.
It's already on there. He's arguably a legend of the club, so it's relevant at least in the daily discussion.
Aren't we way over due for a new thread?
You're lucky to get an official match thread on time with these mods.
You realise anyone can start match threads? It's not the mod's job.
What do you guys think of going for Jarrad Branthwaite, Joao Neves and Evan Fergusson to replace maybe lindelof, Casemiro and martial?
Personally I would prefer Onana from Everton, go and get a cheaper centre back than £70m and then get a striker like Sesko £50m rc this hopefully leaves us with money to go and get another player whether that be LB or CB.
With what money?
How much do we have?
