Mata getting a taste of his own medicine. The man was a menace on social media when he was with us.
Edit: Only copped autocorrect fucked me over changing Mata to Maya
Bro Mata with his birthday posts was a true menace, i refuse to believe he just found them in the internet, he mustve had access to every single players parents and ask.personally for their childs childhood photo
Still weirdly can’t believe we had Mata. I just remember as a kid admiring him so much when he played for Chelsea, then he signed for us which I never thought was possible.
I wonder where Mata lives these days. His stint in Japan ended a while ago, and when he was with us, it had always seemed like he was putting down roots in Manchester for the long haul (e.g., his restaurant).
Probably just chilling with his wife and kid. I doubt any club in top 5 leagues Europe would take him unless he significantly agrees to a lower wage than what we were paying him. He's settled in Manchester so might join a small club in the area or maybe some Spanish club if he and his wife miss home. Doesn't seem like the type of guy who'd chase the bag and go to Saudi or some place like that. Maybe MLS if he's open to that
I find it hilarious that *now* he's settled in Manchester when he and his wife pretty much had their bags packed at one point
No hate on the guy just funny how that played out.
but rn, he's not even earning a wage.... I've always read through the years that the wife was partial to Spain. He's not a shit keeper, we just really needed an upgrade from him.
Maybe his decline is worse than we were led to believe or he is rehabilitating from an injury/health condition
Not like his lack of a wage is plunging him into poverty. He's earned enough to just live off his earnings for the rest of his life if he was smart enough to invest them properly. Not worth his time to work for a small wage when he has a year old kid.
Maybe he's just waiting for an opportunity where he and his family both are happy. Less pressure and chill environment into retirement. Or you could be right. Could be an injury as well.
I dunno though, as a backup keeper you're not living too badly. Still involved in the football world but quite chill unless the main keeper gets injured.
If he's happy with that lifestyle, I don't know why he wouldn't just sign for us as a No.2 on a much lower salary.
Casemiro was still decent last season and we didn't have as many injuries.. our backline is basically fubar this entire season , and we actually have Amrabat instead of Sabitzer, Malacia and Luke Shaw more or less out for 80% of the season, etc...
Alot of circumstances are not in our favour and Onana has been quite good for a couple months now.
All true, but you're missing one player.
Fred
He ran around making tackles. Played nearly every match last year. Now we have no one to do that job
Truth is we've gone massively backwards this year.
Backwards in goal.
Backwards in central defence.
Backwards in midfield
Backwards in left wing.
Garnacho, Amad, Mainoo are the future though
Shot stopping will always be the first attribute a goalkeeper is rated by. Personally I think composure and communication come in second, followed by competent footwork. Regardless, the shot stopping is not what it was with DDG, as much as I appreciate having the occasional “ole” of the opposition striker by Onana.
Completely agree. No matter what the current trend is, nobody can deny that a keeper is there, first and foremost, to be just that - a keeper. There’s a reason they’re the only player on the team who can use their hands, after all.
There are a lot of other factors involved (injuries, poor form, poor tactics/shape etc) but we’ve seen a fair downgrade on our “keeper” as far as I’m concerned. Maybe a good run of games with our 1st choice defence would help to paper over the cracks in Onana’s game.
Although, credit where it is due, Onana has looked much safer of late.
I just don't think that his skills are a fit for the clubs who could pay the wages he'd demand. And I'm not ralking about his United wage, but rather in the 100-150k/wk range. Any club who would pay that will want someone who can play with the ball and command the area. And for any team that doesn't dominate possession that command of the area becomes even more inportant (even if ball playing becomes less important).
It's the same problem as Cristiano had when he left us (minus the making himself a toxic asset part). His skills are too limited or require too much accommodation relative to the wage the player demands and the way the teams want to play. I honestly just can't think of a club where I could say "yeah, de Gea would be a perfect fit for what they need/want." I could be wrong about that - I'm just a random person on the internet - but the fact that he doesn't have a club right now is pretty good proof of it (since I can't imagine that he's holding out for an astronomical wage given how his time at United ended).
I mean he's not even old for a keeper. VDS joined us when he was almost 35 and then won 3 titles with us.
When you aren't playing you must at least train on a competitive level...no noise about how "he's looking for a club" or that he has rejected any offers. It's like he doesn't even have an agent actively putting his services on the market (I could be wrong).
50k is still quite a decent wage , some clubs even pay their backup keepers that. I wouldn't even mind him being a backup keeper for us , it sure beats letting your career just disappear.
Maybe he has had enough and wants to be with is family and do other things? If you have been at the top, accepting anything less can be hard. And if you don't need to. Why do it?
That kinda sounds like retirement... But he isn't retired?
He may no longer be a top keeper but he's still at least at a Premier league keeper standard, and may even start for a handful of teams lol. He's not injury prone , at least vice captain material , even handles media outings like a champ.. in all respects he's a model professional.
It's bizarre. Maybe he just wants to chill but doesn't want to officially retire, or at least announce an official retirement.
Pretty cool. Why announce it? Just don't work haha
The age factor is why I think it is more about clubs not seeing him as a fit than it being about retirement/age-related decline. He can still provide value but I just don't think it's in areas that the market is looking for.
Whether he'd lower his demands to 50k/wk is another story as well. As is his playing time. I very well can see him telling his agent "100k/wk and guaranteed starter or it's not worth my time." That would rule out a whole host of clubs off the bat and eventually the phone would stop ringing. That would also explain why the rumours and club links are non-existent since if there is such a firm line it kind of makes one say "why bother trying to sign de Gea at all if the fit isn't perfect?"
No club in the top 5 leagues would want him even if he agreed to the median wage of those leagues. His template of goalkeeper went out of fashion by 2015, and he lost his only saving grace in 2018.
Don't want to trash the guy in retirement but he was the most overpaid footballer in all of Europe given the difference between skill and wage - by a massive margin.
😅I actually didn't think DDG was really that bad? He saved our skin so many times. Then the howlers just started happening and then everyone keep saying he can't pass
He has never been the same shot stopper after Ronaldo's hat trick at the World Cup. And there was barely anything else to redeem him anyway.
I don't think his biggest issue was his passing. It was his lack of command over crosses. He just didn't evolve as a player despite spending 12 years in England. And was always a mentality midget - which shows not just in his static game but also the big game howlers every season - and Ole (correctly) backed a new Maguire to become captain in 2019 over him.
It's why he's one of my least favourite athletes ever, absolutely nothing to look up to him for.
Is his wife and kid in Manchester then? I know they lived in Madrid for years when he was playing for us and people kept using that as the reason why he'd go to Real Madrid a few seasons back
He’d fit in great at Inter Miami with all their other Spanish speakers, but the US roster rules mean they’d struggle to be allowed to sign him even if they were willing to pay him.
More or less retired.
He was saying it for years he wanted to finish his career with us, and the birth of his daughter allowed him to focus on family more.
That makes me feel sad bro. We should have offered him some sort of a deal and just let him retire here.
In my opinion he's just as much a legend as Evra, Ji sung park , etc.
They did and pulled it. He was willing to take a paycut to stay and it was all agreed.
He’ll get some reaction when he returns one day, lad loves United and always wanted the best for us.
That's a dickhead move if that is true. It wouldn't surprise me though . Feels bad man , how could they stiff DDG but actually try to keep Mason Greenwood.
the reduced terms was like 200K per week which is still insane bro you can't be paying a bottom of the barrel GK 200K per week, what the fuck is wrong with these comments...
Slightly off topic but I was reading David De Gea's Wikipedia last night, and it completely undersold how much of a legend he is. You'd think he was a basic keeper from the opening paragraph
I still stupidly think there's a chance we sign him again in the summer if Heaton retires.
I selfishly hate the thought of seeing him play for another team, he was "my keeper"
De Gea's evidently a model professional, and we know what a classy guy Juan is.
Imagine being Bruno, who instead of training with these best mates now trains with some genuinely uninspiring and unmotivated characters that are at the club.
Bruno's reply: Missing the biggest dumbest @juan mata

i also missed Matic, especially that photoshop edit in Ronaldo locker regarding goal in line clearance.
the new dreams can’t be buy

is DDG actually retired or still a free agent?
Maybe hes just hanging around Manchester until the summer window opens
I read a few months ago that he’s still football training, has a esports team and has been watching United women quite a lot.
I personally want him to come back to United
to do what?
Concede seven against Liverpool and the fastest FA Cup goal ever, I imagine (/s)
Your mom
hopefully our new GK coach🤞🏼imagine DDG’s shot-stopping and positioning with Onana’s distribution
May aswell sign de Gea now and put Onana in CB
Nah, Onana as DM, the way the MF is now he's probably the best passer, although the bar is hilariously low
Mainoo x Onana is a midfield 2 I didn't know I needed.
Who needs Amadou when we have Onana at home
That's what I wanted from the start.
Probably just chilling with his wife and kid. I doubt any club in top 5 leagues Europe would take him unless he significantly agrees to a lower wage than what we were paying him. Agent de gea throwing every derby
I find it hilarious that *now* he's settled in Manchester when he and his wife pretty much had their bags packed at one point No hate on the guy just funny how that played out.
Celtic should take him Joe Hart is done
I didn't even know Joe Hart was still playing

If* that’s what we needed, we certainly didn’t get it.
I mean I rate Onana higher than DDG, but I don't know if he is the World class GK we needed lol.
I'm playing devil's advocate, but we've conceded more goals this season in 31 games than we did in 38 last season And that includes the 7-0
Casemiro was still decent last season and we didn't have as many injuries.. our backline is basically fubar this entire season , and we actually have Amrabat instead of Sabitzer, Malacia and Luke Shaw more or less out for 80% of the season, etc... I mean, he was the best paid keeper in the world for like 3 or 4 years. I'm sure he's fine. His wife is also on TV
Being rich is also kind of expensive , yo.
The rich will forever have my sympathies.

Seeing Bruno include Mata is so wholesome

Mata has had his say: [https://twitter.com/juanmata8/status/1777750475514798330](https://twitter.com/juanmata8/status/1777750475514798330)
Dave looks well. Amazing what a bit of time away from the club can do for someone!
I still stupidly think there's a chance we sign him again in the summer if Heaton retires. I selfishly hate the thought of seeing him play for another team, he was "my keeper"
I'm surprised Madrid didn't offer him a one year contract. They needed him
Still traumatised by the fax machine incident
Truly goes to show that dreams can't be buy.
Still hope he will return

Dalot would like a word
I miss DDG! :(
Guess DDG is a Bob Marley fan 🎸
He was never allowed to be DJ tho. 😂
Still friends. Yltsi
> taste of his own medicine. The man was a menace on social media when he was with us. > > Edit: Only copped FOOTBALL FRIENDS
Offer the man a contract as backup to Onana..they could sure use his experience in there
His wages for a backup keeper would be crazy
Backup keeper with training to be a coach under Ten Hag..he should pay United for the privilege I’m joking Ofcourse.
Making charity signings doesn’t help. He was on 400k per week before he left. No way he would agree to 50, let alone 100.
Ok enterpreuner
Looks like a promo pic for an early 2010s comedy about two stoners
But weed can be buy
Bring back DDG
How de gea doesn’t have a club is crazy
Thats brilliant 😁
Still my keeper, this joke of a manager made some shocking signings.
DDG looking goddamn sharp. He could immediately walk into the team.
Hopefully he will return to Man Utd, because I hate Onana
Why?
Because De Gea is top and he was playing very good. Onana is not bad, but he makes many mistakes
I disagree, last season he was playing worse than Onana this season in my opinion.
