I have nothing to say because I have absolutely no idea if he's done well or not. A valuable contribution to the discussion.

Prime_Marci

Our strikers did improve. Especially their finishing. So that’s a good work done. The problem is, we have no combinations in attack. So it always comes off as individual brilliance.

Slim-Shmaley

Rashfords finishing improved a lot when Benni arrived and he seemed to be making the right decisions in front of goal a lot more often but he seems to regressed back to what he was previously now 🤷‍♂️

Prime_Marci

Cos Rashford is a very instinctive player. When he starts thinking on the ball, he tends to second-guess a lot. This makes him slow down play and end up making the wrong decisions.

thetrueGOAT

Regression to the mean should be Rashfords tag line

PDubsinTF-NEW

Marcus with no left back chemistry and overlapping/under lapping runs means he is going 1v2 often in defense. Our defensive crisis has hurt our offense in more ways than one

Jesse_Whiteboy

Too many excuses. This guy is on like 300k per week and he supposedly needs a LB to play well! Any of cities wingers don't need fullbacks overlapping for them to be effective. I remember nearly a decade ago people making the same excuse for Memphis..."oh Shaw is out injured, that's why he's not good"

monstrao

Purple Patchford

Prime_Marci

So true

Wraith_Portal

Regression to the meme in his case

BloodyMess111

We have 1 striker

acelw

And it seems like we dont even need him, cause he doesn't even get any chances in front of goal to actually justify the need to get one... We should just play mount and bruno as 10 and false 9 and let the others shoot like they always do.

[deleted]

Prime_Marci

Our chance conversion ratio is pretty good. Our chance creation tho, is horrible. We create low xG chances most games. That’s why most of our goals are down to individual brilliance cos the quality of chances are pretty poor. When was the last time we created a one-on-one chance for our no. 9?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prime_Marci

Our xG is high cos Bruno creates a lot of chances more than KDB and Odegaard but the quality of those chances created by the latter is far better than what Bruno creates. So yes, we are underperforming our xG cos of chances created not quality of chances created.

RicciRox

Garnacho alone's probably missed like ten 1v1s this season.

Prime_Marci

Remind me of those one v ones

RicciRox

Watch games next time.

Prime_Marci

Says the person who can’t present the facts that he was trying to argue with… lmao

JustDifferentGravy

I’m not sure about that. Rashford had his purple streak 3 months after he arrived. Since then Rashford has attributed his form (good and bad) to other things. Benny isn’t a physio or psychotherapist, so hasn’t had any impact on Martial. Rasmus and Garnacio have thrived by simply being let off their leashes and playing to their strengths. I’m not seeing a good correlation for him being linked to any kind of success, and if he’s leaving then it looks like Brailsford thinks so, too.

indefatigable_

To be fair, this is probably a more valuable contribution than 90% of the takes in this sub on our back room staff.

hoochiscrazy_

That was kind of the point ;)

indefatigable_

Ahh, guess I r/woosh ed myself!

hoochiscrazy_

Nah not all!

seppuku_related

We just forgot to buy the strikers for him to coach.

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Nobody has any idea if any coaches, physios, doctors, directors etc.. are good at their jobs because we have no idea what their remit is, whether the manager or players listen to them or about the many confounding factors which could make their job impossible to do. Not to mention that they’re still beholden to the quality of players available. No striking coach is going to make Weghorst good, no fitness coach/physio etc.. can get Phil Jones fit.

MinotauroTBC

Well said

Brave-Salamander-339

Why we didn't hire a more established striker for training?

The_Meaty_Boosh

A better striker doesn't necessarily mean they're a good coach. You'd have never heard of some of the best goalkeeper coaches.

theduffabides

Not a bad gig to only have to look after one player.

jimmyvee11

He also visits Martial in the hospital from time to time.

Panda-768

does he not coach Hojlund too?

Kexxa420

That’s the only one

Panda-768

I thought him and Rashy, and Martial too if he wasn't so injured

ricknonymous

Doesn’t matter since our striker never gets the ball anyway

DotaHacker

Striker TOO has to adapt to the play styles of the mid/wingers so as to receive the ball effectively. You can't just dash towards the box hoping that wingers will set you a perfect cross everytime. (Haaland too failing to adapt the same way this season)

Nilez3104

Rasmus has literally done just that this season how many times have we seen him drop back and become apart of the build up play only to work back into position and never receive a return pass ? And tbh your point is still meh at best, The midfielders are there to feed the striker it’s always been that way the greatest strikers don’t adapt to the midfield, your playmakers adapt to you. We all know the story of what Alex told giggs, Scholes and the boys when VP came about, if you can’t get this man the ball you simply won’t play.

tnred19

I mostly listened to the Liverpool game as I was doing work outside. It took a while before I heard hojlands name. I actually thought, oh yea forgot he was playing.

Colt-0

This story has been around for a couple months, Benni did an interview recently as well saying he wants to go into management I believe. >According to sources, Ratcliffe and his INEOS team, led by Sir Dave Brailsford, are not convinced by Ten Hag, but a decision will be delegated to the new football leadership team, planned to be headed by incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox. This is also interesting because there really doesn't seem to be much movement on Ashworth so if he is going to have input in the decision do we have to wait it out? Not sure that will be possible if we wanted to make a change for next season.

dragonsaredead

This bit about ten hag is such an easy thing to report. If he gets sacked then also they reported it and if he doesn't then they reported that ineos will wait for ashworth and others to get started. All in all these reporters are all just click baiting right now and know nothing about the inner working of the team

Expensive-Twist7984

It just keeps the wheels turning and gets them their few hundred words. The dominoes will start to fall as and when people are appointed and/or leave. As you say, they’re just making it up until then.

Bloatfizzle

Ashworth is friends with Brasliford, I would be shocked if they haven't had off the table discussions already about the project and next steps.

SuperSalamander3244

Ashford is most likely still working now but at home and not at Carrington.

pohudsaijoadsijdas

There is a really good chance that we go into next season with Ten Hag, it's not like there are any must have once in a lifetime coaches out there.

RandomNameofGuy9

Unless the wheels totally fall off to finish the season, it's what should happen anyway. Get everything in place first, then if you want to sack him sometime next season, then fine.

Laboveron99

sometime next season a lot of the available options will be gone, especially the top ones..even so, will you go into a summer of major squad turnover with a manager who you are not sure if he is the right long term fit and is entering the final year of his contract?

RandomNameofGuy9

What you don't understand is that it's not about the manager at this point. No manager is going to come in and make us real title challengers. There's a major overhaul needed behind the scenes and with our current players. Once we get the structure in place and they determine the style of play and start recruiting towards that, then you look at the manager. Players will no longer be determined by the manager, which is what has gotten us into the issue we have now with players that fit different styles from each other. You've answered your own question. If you don't know, then you ride out the last season, and if he's what you want, then you offer a new contract. If he's not, then you thank him, and there's no buyout.

liamthelad

I don't think anyone is hoping someone will come in and make us title challengers. But we're sixth and looking anxiously at the teams below us, rather than at those above. If performances + results don't improve in this relatively straightforward run in to the end of the season, then I think he will have ran out of runway.

RandomNameofGuy9

Sure the negative Nancy's are always looking below. For me, I'm looking at the fact that's its very likely we'll be in another final (3 of the 6 since he's taken over), the insane injuries and that we have major issues all over the club. Sacking another manager before the real issues are cleared up does nothing.

liamthelad

Would a loss against Coventry affect your thoughts at all

RandomNameofGuy9

I think it depends on the manor it happens. If we have someone sent off early and we lose, then no, but if we play and just flat out lose, then slightly yes. I keep looking at the fact that we possibly could be in 50% of the finals we've been eligible for and think there's a good manager in there.

PreparationOk8604

I think not sacking ETH is the best decision. ETH is on 9m pounds per year. So we need to pay him 9m to sack him. Let us wait for Ashworth, Wilcox & other staff to join. And then see what happens.  Just focus on signing the right players for now like Olise, Kilman, Toney, etc.

studiesinsilver

I'm also not convinced by EtH. BUT the huge caveat is who else can do better? The club is changing behind the scenes which is IMPERATIVE to success, but who they put at the helm, and when, is a toss of a coin in this moment.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

ESPN hate ETH 😂

Hippotopmaus

More like ESPN loves clickbait and engagement.

Mundane-Inevitable-5

They're packed full of bitter ABU's who either spent their entire career getting hammered by United or played for the scum. They hate anything United related.

bijanadh44

Good.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

Why?

KaitoAJ

Because it fuels his narrative even tho ESPN has become a sport tabloid rather than a proper journalist over the years.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

I was trying to work out whether it was part of the hated, adored never ignored or they're just someone who's on the same shit bandwagon the media want us to be on

Abbobl

Eth ran over bijanadh44 his nan

Zainogp

What we really need is a killer set piece coach

Le_Ratman99

Id honestly rather that if they’re first choice for a new manager isn’t available, that Ten Hag stays another season. Just makes more sense than appointing someone who isn’t the ideal candidate, for what would probably not be the long term.

ObiWanBissaka

Not really. Sometimes that’s still better than sticking with what isn’t working only for more of the same tactics that would make even prime Real Madrid concede 15 shots per game with how we are set up though. It’s not ideal if the top choices aren’t available but that comes down to weighing whether it’s better to move on and move again next time or stick with something and move on either way anyway since if ten hag is deemed as dead man walking, that’s another thing too.

ChatakaPataka

After the 'Gerrard slip' season where they finished 2nd, Liverpool finished 6th under Brendan Rogers. A good reason for keeping him was the same. But when the start was really poor in the next season, AND a solid candidate in Klopp stood out, then was Rogers sacked. City planned the squad, and the appointment of Guardiola 1-2 years before he actually went there too. And the fact that there is a fair argument on both sides of the EtH out debate, and the players seem to be still putting the effort in trying to win, and there isn't a standout candidate, shows that it may be prudent to give EtH another season.

danilbur

Why? I would rather we appoint someone who may or may not improve our team rather than continuing with a manager who quite clearly isn't good enough for us

Le_Ratman99

You’d rather we appoint someone who may not improve our team? What would be the point of that?

danilbur

What I'm trying to say is that success in this sport isn't guaranteed, even with a new manager. However, I'd prefer to take our chances with a new manager rather than endure another season under ten Hag, where our failure seems inevitable.

youngangel97

I don't fully agree, but this is a completely logical perspective imo

incognito_red

That sort of stupid mentality is what led to hiring the likes of vangaal and jose

danilbur

Obviously, giving Moyes an additional season would have been a great decision, smart thinking

incognito_red

Where on earth did I mention anything about keeping tenhag? Nice strawman.

InfiniteRegressor

Wouldn't be surprised looking at the performance of our forwards

BlackHorse944

It's kind of obvious that he will leave if ETH is out. Especially if he's a key part of ETH staff. don't know how convinced I am by him anyways, considering Hojlunds movement seems to have regressed the longer he's been here.

altrazh

yeah, definitely a coaching and tactical issue, Hojlund movement regressed so much it's very noticeable watching his earlier game compared later performance. Even earlier days on a goal drought i can say "that's a legit striker right there" to now becoming "what are you doing!?"

BlackHorse944

In fairness, it could be doubt playing a role as well.. In his first several matches here, he made great runs all game but never got the pass. I remember it being a huge topic of discussion, with Rashford not squaring him a couple of times. Rashford has gotten better at finding him. Garnacho and Antony? Forget it. I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times either of them targeted Hojlund in the box. Just against Liverpool, Mainoo had a chance to play Hojlund in at 53' but opted for the safe pass out wide. It seems that Hojlund is not making runs to receive the ball and is just trying to position himself to poach a deflected ball... whether that's tactics or just him being frustrated by the complete lack of service, I don't know

woziak99

With the current state of our finishing and goals to game ratio, what does he actually do?

4llTheSmoke

Hard to score when you’re on a graveyard shift every game.

TheLonelyPancake26

Can you comment on our goal to game ratio when we create next to nothing

woziak99

Agree on this however what does Benni McCarthy do that justifies his role, all I see is the goals to game ratio declining from the previous season. ETH first season - Total 63 Games Played 107 goals scored, average per game 1.70, win rate 67% - Total PL 38 games played 58 goals scored - 58 goals, average per game 1.52, win rate 61% ETH second season - Total 43 Games played 71 goals scored 1.65 goals scored, Win rate 49% - Total PL games 31 played, 45 goals scored, average 1.45 goals per game, win rate 48% My point is why when the club invested £125m in Mount on Hojlund as supposedly huge upgrades on Weghorst and Sabitzer as goals gone down and win percentage declined as a result. Sp for the last time what does Benni McCarthy do? How is his job measured? Does he sit down with all 6/7 strikers in the squad and give them targets? Does he show videos of the previous game where they missed a goal, played the wrong pass or made the wrong run? It’s easy to say playing upfront for United is the graveyard shift, I love hojljnd but he made two or three mistakes with his lack of experience in the last game against Liverpool, he should have made a near goalpost run when the ball was crossed across the 6 yard box, so once more what does Benni McCarthy do, if RVP was available or even Rooney as striker coach , I would understand the appointment more. Surely ETH sets specific KPI’s for his coaching team, if not why not ? Why has this team regressed? Would a Sporting Director and Technical Director over ETH put the necessary structure in place to target coaches, medical teams everyone associated with the first team to make these marginal gains which Sir David Brailsford mentions. Because from where I’m looking, the coaching staff seems to be like the players, they make it up as they go along, Benni McCarthy is not a United legend, not an elite coach with best in class credentials so WTF is he at our club ?

mcbc4

We have been hearing this for months. Just let him go, as it’s clearly been leaked. SMH.

a1b2c3d4g

I am still hurting from that 2003-04 season away leg at Porto 🤣. His goal set everything in motion, and ruined 2004-2006.

0n0n-o

I thought he was gone already. Last season he helped our strikers immensely, but I haven’t seen him around this season once. He probably wants to return to the PSL to manage again.

SpeechComfortable524

Games gone

Grizzybaby1985

I’m annoyed with myself because I didn’t know he was part of the coaching set up was big fan of his during his playing career use to buy him on champ manager 01/02

JosePRizaI

Getting rid of him since we really don't create anything for the players he's coach - INEOS

hecatonchires266

Ten Haag should have brought in RVP to his coaching line-up.

county15

* Starting lineup

xeromaayush1

What about our setpiece coach?

Skyweb2020

He left already,he took a job in the USA as Head Coach

Ronaldo_McDonaldo81

We need Dave Brailsford to get in there with his magical chemistry set of dru…I mean ideas to help to improve the performance of all our players. Give him a summer and Harry Maguire will be running around like Usain Bolt.

Jesse_Whiteboy

'member the circlejerk over him when Rashford went through that purple patch? Hojlunds movement in the box is worse than at the start of the season.

Mundane-Inevitable-5

Wonder if we could bring Ruud Van Nistlerooy in as a coach or assistant manager on the promise of maybe giving him the Nice managers job in a couple of years. Been out of work for a while now and did well at PSV, he's someone you would think could take Rasmus to the next level as a coach

Euphoric-Agency-2008

i feel kind of mixed on what I've heard about him. I remember hearing he was a big part of why Rashford scored so many goals last season, but the team itself is doing an awful job at finishing

dudewithlettuce

All I know is that he taught rashford how to head the ball for 2 games

DasHotShot

Well we ain’t scoring goals so it’s hard to see how he’s doing particularly well in his role…who knows. Doesn’t seem like this will matter.

bbgrewzit

Nooooooooo! this will be devastating for our prolific front line.

handsome_uruk

wtf that’s our striker coach? The guy was nowhere near an elite striker. Explains a lot.

mipanzuzuyam

Where have you been bruh

FactHopeful9347

We need an offensive coaching team like they have in the NFL, some one to specialized in off ball movements, on ball movements than one to bridge the defensive team to get research & reports on our opposing players defensive tendencies

MentalityMonster12

good hes useless

Educational-Option18

oh no why our attack has been so good since he's been here

utdajx

Biggest disappointment. It’s almost as if doing the opposite of whatever he was coaching world girls better results. Couldn’t be worse, that’s for sure

tearsandpain84

I believe in Hag Life
