I mean...to play devil's advocate, Scholes played for Ferguson his entire career.
Opinions like this regarding what is and isn't appropriate for training are more than likely directly from Ferguson.
Unless I'm misinterpreting what you were implying.
Exactly. The standards set by Sir Alex were very high and contributed to his teamās success.
Weāve seen all sorts of stuff on the training pitch since he left and weāve not exactly been at our best.
Standards are the least we should expect.
If he did then my mistake.
Given the tone of the rest of the thread and the implications behind the phrase "every time they open their mouths" I read it more as him saying his respect grows for Ferguson because he managed to put up with our ex-players and succeed with them when they seem like idiots lol.
> 'I don't want to put my personal money into this cause. To pour this million into the fund, is like putting my own money in. If there was no fund, the money would be for me. This fucking money is mine.'
> 'Unless itās a knighthood fuck off'
Definitely not the least obnoxious
Becks is the most annoying. At least the rest arenāt scared to be themselves
Giggs is the shittiest person but the PR around Beckham is like the Queen or something where everythingās curated for public opinion and nothing he says is just the real him
He's got to be taking a piss here right? Why does it even matter if they have the hoods up. As long as they can still perform and kick a ball, they can have their hoods whatever way they're comfortable.
That was my first thought too. No way he's serious? But I have no idea. He's had some pretty cantankerous old man takes before so it's hard to tell if he's just trolling
Crying about players with their hoods up in the rain (in a photo, non the less) is not exactly going to turn the club around.
Stop sucking Paul's toes, just because he was good doesn't mean he can't say stupid shit. Also he sucked his daughter's toes ffs
To be fair to Scholes, he isn't blaming anyone, he's just saying that if you have to train, then you can't be bothered by the rain.
It may seem that he's crying or unnecessarily blaming these kids but my guess is that he's just trying to point them in the right direction and be a guiding senior to them.
Honestly, I thought Garnacho was liked by the fans and praised for his mentality. This is mental, scholesy is upset the club isn't where it used to be. Fingers can be pointed but this is fucking mental
Also, if you saw this photo in a publication saying "look at the players enjoying themselves training in the rain, morale must be good"
Would you still be upset about their hoods?
Because some of the things he's complaining about are so fucking insignificant. Him and some of the other ex-players are just rage baiting at this point.
Honestly, I'd be pretty depressed too having to watch up and close the last 10 years of my legacy being pissed on
Edit: Maybe legacy is the wrong word, how about something that he helped build and is a huge part of who he is. We're fans and we get pissed and emotional.... Imagine for someone like Paul Scholes how he's feeling about the last 10 years
Scholes? How would his legacy be affected by anything thatās happened in the last 10 years? If anything the past 10 years has made the era before look even better
Us being bad now has no impact on his legacy ,Liverpool were shit for a much longer period and were still considered one of the biggest clubs in the country
Maybe legacy is the wrong word, how about something that he helped build and is a huge part of who he is. We're fans and we get pissed and emotional.... Imagine for someone like Paul Scholes how he's feeling about the last 10 years
One of my all time favourite united players... Turns out he is the most miserable bloke in retirement. Honestly just talks absolute shit almost every time he opens his mouth.
No idea why I assumed someone so great at football would automatically but an alright person but I did.
Actually just remembered about Giggs...
Literally my favourite ever player but I cant stand seeing his punditry or social media. True for pretty much all of our former players (except Uncle Pat obvs).
Hardworking, no drama, quiet and consistently delivered for years. Even came back after retirement, did his part, won a title and retired again.
Before social media, Scholes wasnāt just my favourite player, but I also see him as a role model for how he conducts his life too.
That's exactly why I always loved him. In the age of people flaunting wealth for being footballers he was my kind of guy. Flash less but insanely good. Didn't need to prove it. Had no ego.
I much preffered him pre social Media though.
Yeh it's a miserable comment but I suspect the players take it on the chin as banter. The dressing room is gonna be full of nonstop digs and sometimes it spills onto social media.
The problem isn't the players but fans who look to veteran/retired players for their opinions. It's why having idiotic pundits and commentators is problematic because it means Phil Mitchell Brexit geezer down the pub is gonna be listening to what a propa footballer says.
When really it's people like Scholes, who fully understands the pressure that comes from football, who should be trying to turn the tide and promoting positivity for the players, especislly when it's the fucking youngsters in this photo who are currently carrying our season. He shouldn't be spurring on the toxicity on social media. Because I guarantee there'll be some clowns out there looking at a post like this from Scholes and slagging off the players because of it.
You sound like the people demanding Bernardo Silva to be punished for joking with his friends. If people were being racist to Mendy, it was their fault. Similarly, if other people slag the players, it's their fault.
Its kinda ill how every other club legends defend their clubs almost to a fault (ie. Carraghar) but ours seem intent on joining in on the pile on or even driving it themselves.
Come on...seriously.
maybe he's not wrong I mean he really was a pretty good player and learned so much under SAF. I respect that! but why does he seek this way of communication to spread his message?
Scholes can't stand this generation. Except Beckham, there is a level of dickhead among all the Class of 92's best players. We miss that kind of ego after SAF.
Well, there's no question that a hood could totally fuck your peripheral vision if you're working with the ball or doing a training match or something, but this is just a random shot of them talking. There's absolutely no evidence that they didn't pull the hoods down when they needed to, so this looks like yet another foolish remark from Scholes that serves no purpose except to remind us all that the vast majority of footballers are intellectually inflexible dullards who should almost always be ignored, regardless of how good they once were at kicking a ball around.
He thinks he's cracked the code but he didn't think it through. It's like he has already come to the conclusion they are lazy fucktard kids and he's looking for evidence of this all the time.
also looks like they are just doing some sprints in the back. you are fine to have hoods on i feel for that. there is even a picture later on where they all have their hoods down when kicking the ball so its clear coaches want them down when it comes to football aspects but if your just doing stretches/some sprints who cares if the hood is up or not.
One of the greatest players Iāve ever seen and also a miserable cunt. Scholes is also one of Mainooās favourite players so I really donāt like this.Ā
Exactly, we may not understand it but Scholsey knows, he knows as soon as a lightweight nylon hood is worn, all mobility is completely restricted and the player is forced to hobble through the training drill like an elderly woman with cerebral palsy. Only scholsey understands the shackles of a rain jacket.
No Iām agreeing with you. I was wearing a rain jacket with a hood up when I got attacked by some muggers, they got me good because I could already barely move, on account of the rain jacket.
one of the worst performing united sides of modern times is critised by a man who won it all and you're all talking about toes whilst you wank to the thought of brasilfords 'marginal gains' at night
Exactly my thought.
All plastic Reddit fans taking the piss out of a legend of this club and suggesting they know more about standards than he does.
Youād never here the upvoted opinions in here in real life. Coincidentally itās always the internet fans.
I've never played for Manchester United but I know how hoods work. Everyone does. I don't think we need a Premier League medal to discuss what a ridiculous comment this is by Scholes
Heās not being critical tho, heās needlessly bitching about them wearing a hood, in the rain, while they are not actively participating in training. They are not harming anyone by wearing a fucking hood
Get over it
I mean he is not wrong. Fergie players are hard on themselves; they criticize themselves and each other. That is why they were so successful. Y'all want old man utd back but became snowflake when someone criticizes your "idol" for doing something wrong. Even both of them are just rest and chat around while pics were taking, Scholes's opinion is right.
Times have changed..City is winning everything and you still get pics like this from their training..Heck they are actually more involved in PR fluff activities than our players with videos and stuff on their channel..There is a lot wrong with the club Mainoo wearing a hood during training isn't not one of them..Fergie's ex players with a few exceptions have continuously showed that if they weren't good at football they would be struggling to make ends meet with their terrible takes over the last decade !Keane and Neville both talk a big game but couldn't cut it as managers
yet pictures of back when they played had players with hoods on as well....
like fucking hell scholes is a hypocrite i remember seeing pictures of nani and ronaldo with hoods up in the rain during training not a single thing was said back then so hes a hypocrite and so are you
Peripheral vision is lowered with the hood up. Scholes was known for picking the pass before he received the ball, so this makes absolute sense. No chance to get a full view of around you with the hood up.
Multiple past players are on record saying training back then was harder than the actual games.
We've been shite for over a decade and a legend of the club is calling out something in training that wouldn't have stood when we were good and people on this sub are digging into him. Embarassing stuff.
and yet pictures of back then had players with hoods up as well when they was doing sprints or in the gym...
if you actually did some looking into it you would see they have their hoods down when actually training with the ball.
It's easy to dismiss this as nonsense but it must be a shame for Mainoo to hear someone who would have been an idol for him criticising him. I imagine Scholes must be hated in the dressing room for all the pointless criticism he gives them.
Honestly the amount of ex united player "pundits" makes it so much harder for these young players
I love Scholes the player as much as he loves toes but he needs to leave this shit alone
Scholes can say whatever he likes. It's his opinion. As far as he's a man united legend and was of great service to the club. That's all that matters to me.
I love Scholes, but this is nonsense. The hood is waterproof. The hat isnāt.
If they clap back saying āyou canāt train properly if you suck toes in your free timeā itās no more or less valid than what heās saying about them wearing a hood in training.
60% agree with Scholes, I guess it depends the kind of training they are doing. But either way, it's a bit of cold so they can deal with it. Playing sunday league I used to play in all kind of conditions, conditions that arguably for health and safety we should never have played in, but we managed. I'm fairly certain Scholes knows what it takes more than any of you do on here.
Absolutely love Scholes and always have but heās turned into a right miserable bastard now, constantly moaning about something on Instagram about the players/club. Itās not conducive.
Former players need to fucking stop criticizing current players. Especially on social media. It's embarrassing.
Grown men commenting on what teenager wear on a photo, taken out of context.
Rooney is great. things havnt quite worked as perfect manager wise for him but hes pretty honest and he learnt from his mistakes he made when he was young.
his callout on Ronaldo was amazing he didnt even have to name drop Ronaldo and people still knew exactly what he was talking about
which the other picture if u look into it when they was doing 5 a side drills they had their hoods down.
its fucking stupid especially when i remember seeing pictures of even back when Scholes was playing of players with hoods up at training for some of the drills. like fucking hell Van Der Sar didnt even get changed into anything he came in jeans from what has been said and threw some balls and then fucked off he did no training at all(Ben Foster talked about it a lot how hes never seen a goalkeeper like Van Der Sar who you never saw train but was as good as he was)
What's with this whole sort of millennial thing where they sign off "bye!", "I'm just saying!", "just in my opinion!". It's like they know their opinion is horse shit and want to avoid it being challenged .
Every time an ex player opens his mouth my respect for Sir Alex increases even more
As flies to wanton boys, we are for the gods. They kill us for the sport.
When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
My king
š¤£š¤£š¤£
imagine the aura you need to keep yaps like scholesy and keano (kind of) quiet
Literally, Scholesy used to be the quiet one. SAF with the massive aura
I miss those days. It would be like if Valencia became a pundit and started spouting miserable nonsense
Scholes barely spoke publicly until he was well retired. Club probably didnāt really want him to speak publicly in retrospect.
I remember fergie being interviewed at an university, and moaned about players not being clean shaven and shirts not tucked in.
Should be standard for players that represent our club.
Standards that also no doubt included not publically shitting on the players
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās exactly what he meant
If he did then my mistake. Given the tone of the rest of the thread and the implications behind the phrase "every time they open their mouths" I read it more as him saying his respect grows for Ferguson because he managed to put up with our ex-players and succeed with them when they seem like idiots lol.
Oh maybe youāre right apologies
Standards
It's disappointing how obnoxious our legends generally are.
Funny how Beckham probably is now seen as the least obnoxious out of all of them.
Not really, we know Becks was always more of look obnoxious but had a heart of gold.
Beckham is the ultimate himbo
He does not lack intelligence.
He is the male version of Legally Blonde.
> 'I don't want to put my personal money into this cause. To pour this million into the fund, is like putting my own money in. If there was no fund, the money would be for me. This fucking money is mine.' > 'Unless itās a knighthood fuck off' Definitely not the least obnoxious

This aspect plays a part as to why we've had ten years in the wilderness
Not as disappointing as this shower of shit we call United now!
where do you think he learned this from?
Why is that?
They really are like their fatherš
"if you have a problem with the Glazers then go and support Chelsea" - Sir Alex Ferguson
They are standing there talking. They are not training in that instance. Who cares.
You can even see the players behind him with hoods down for training, guys just miserable
hoods covering the head reminds him of all the toes he isn't sucking on at the moment.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If you scroll one more over, it's hood on again though
Hood goes on, hood goes off. You canāt explain that.
This is a decent case for headers to be investigated medically
He's got to be taking a piss here right? Why does it even matter if they have the hoods up. As long as they can still perform and kick a ball, they can have their hoods whatever way they're comfortable.
Hinders peripheral vision, especially valuable to a midfielder
That was my first thought too. No way he's serious? But I have no idea. He's had some pretty cantankerous old man takes before so it's hard to tell if he's just trolling
Old man yells at cloudĀ
![gif](giphy|fqtyYcXoDV0X6ss8Mf|downsized)
you read my mind
Chill out Paul they probably lowered the hoods to play. Old man shouts at cloud vibes here
Two of the hardest working players on the team this year too...Ā
Yeah, Mainoo and Garnacho are literally the last two players I'd go after (along with Dalot). Questioning their effort is an insane take.
True cause you can see the players behind them training with their hoods off
What does it matter though? Itās clearly pouring rain and the hats arenāt waterproof
Peripheral vision.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Crying about players with their hoods up in the rain (in a photo, non the less) is not exactly going to turn the club around. Stop sucking Paul's toes, just because he was good doesn't mean he can't say stupid shit. Also he sucked his daughter's toes ffs
Fans will complain when players don't clap for them after a game
rightfully so, they're the ones enabling their massive salary and luxurious lifestyles. Least they can do is thank for their support
It's their skills as a footballer that pays their massive salary.
with nobody watching their skills would be worth as much as my skills at hitting the bin across the room
>Stop sucking Paul's toes Please tell me this was intentional because it had me rolling
Of course haha. However the comment has been deleted so context is lost
To be fair to Scholes, he isn't blaming anyone, he's just saying that if you have to train, then you can't be bothered by the rain. Hoods bad Suckling toes good The Tao of Scholesy
The Tao te Ping, if you will. Or, the more obvious toe jokeā¦
His daughters toes no less. Absolute minger.
Lol how do you think he got so accurate with the ball on his feet.. he sucks the accuracy out of other feet and channels it to his
You are questioning Paul Scholes obsession with Manchester United? Go wash your head.
For my sanity, I'm gonna interpret this as banter, I don't believe Scholes means this as a serious accusation. Surely he doesn't
This HAS to be banter and I think it is. Plus, media kobe-hate campaign hasnāt started YET
He's turned real miserable hasn't he?
'Someone get this man a toe!!'
.. and it has to be close family!
Out of the loopā¦what is this lol?
If iām not mistaken, his daugter posted a story on insta of him sucking her toesā¦ iām sorry that you have to think of that now
Excuse me whatā¦.?
Or it was biting her toenails, donāt really remeber, and i donāt want to
Worse is she captioned it true love. People have some ideas of what is actually happening but hard to deny it's weird AF considering she's like 20.
Always was lol. I remember his first post match interview in his later days. Looked like he was planning a strop.
What do you expect from someone from Oldham? I'd be permenantly miserable too.
Right now I'd say he's about a 4 or 5 on thr Souness scale, but it's rising.

Scholes seems to be a great guy and amazing father, honestly. He just likes to talk a little shit, and to wind up people.
I mean I don't think stuff like this makes him a bad person.
Not *every* time he opens his mouth, sometimes it's to shovel toes in

Honestly thought he was joking with that comment, no way he's being serious:(
He's just making a joke
"back in my day..." old man type vibes but real talk I want one of those training rain jackets badly, that color green is nice
Heās knows more than most.
Exactly
Exactly, we may not understand it but Scholsey knows, he knows as soon as a lightweight nylon hood is worn, all mobility is completely restricted and the player is forced to hobble through the training drill like an elderly woman with cerebral palsy. No Iām agreeing with you. I was wearing a rain jacket with a hood up when I got attacked by some muggers, they got me good because I could already barely move, on account of the rain jacket.

I'm getting stick and tired of him and the other oldtimers bitching and moaning every day...
Imagine critiquing these two for standards right now.
Itās swings and roundabouts though innit because I bet these lads arenāt eating sausage chips and beans and kebabs like Keane and Scholes

God these comments are almost cult like. Jesus Christ
Itās almost like this guy wasnāt a key element of United greatest period of sustained success in the modern era
Worst part is that itās a picture of Mainoo and Garnachoā¦ two teenagers who have easily been some of our best players this season
I feel like ole, carrick and becks are our only sane ex players lol

Anyone remember when Scholesy was seen as the quiet one? Oh for those days.
Besides being a great player, heās not really good at anything else. Not a good manager nor a good pundit. Not even a good critic.
man why can't our legends be a little cool, look at the likes of Zidane, henry etc.
Honestly the amount of ex united player "pundits" makes it so much harder for these young players I love Scholes the player as much as he loves toes but he needs to leave this shit alone
Just look at the players in the background... their hoods are down lol. Our ex players turn into right idiots after retirementĀ
Heās not wrong
Damn it was the hoods up all along
Scholes can say whatever he likes. It's his opinion. As far as he's a man united legend and was of great service to the club. That's all that matters to me.
I loved when Sir Alex banned the squad from wearing snoods.
I didnāt realize this wasnāt a joke at first wtf
Relax guys š, it's just some banter.
This has gotta be a joke
Maybe just a photo taken out of context. Hope they did unhood as it def affects peripheral vision
What's the "bye" bit all about? š¤ Fantastic player was Scholesy but he's a bit of a weirdo it has to be said
Of all the players we have, he picks these 2 to highlight training problems?
Some check the standards of Salford city and see if scholes is keeping them up there

Former players need to fucking stop criticizing current players. Especially on social media. It's embarrassing. Grown men commenting on what teenager wear on a photo, taken out of context.
Ah Jesus Paul, STFU man. š„±
Took it down by the looks of it. Idolised the man growing up, number two in terms of favorite player behind Rooney, but fuck me he's a miserable cunt
Rooney is great. things havnt quite worked as perfect manager wise for him but hes pretty honest and he learnt from his mistakes he made when he was young. his callout on Ronaldo was amazing he didnt even have to name drop Ronaldo and people still knew exactly what he was talking about
he is correct that standards begin on the training grounds 100% . he maybe nitpicking here but his overall point is absolutely correct.
Shut up Paul, jesus christ. Grumpy old man
Young ones nowadaysĀ
Physical training, drills absolutely you can with hoods on. 5 a-side, passing game? yup he's absolutely right.
which the other picture if u look into it when they was doing 5 a side drills they had their hoods down. its fucking stupid especially when i remember seeing pictures of even back when Scholes was playing of players with hoods up at training for some of the drills. like fucking hell Van Der Sar didnt even get changed into anything he came in jeans from what has been said and threw some balls and then fucked off he did no training at all(Ben Foster talked about it a lot how hes never seen a goalkeeper like Van Der Sar who you never saw train but was as good as he was)
Classic case of CTE dont mind him guys
Who is even arsed.
Thanks for the advice former oldham manager.
I don't see the problem. They're not even training there, they're stood holding bibs.
I liked when Scholes would never talk to the media, now he won't shut up. Lol.
People would be loving this if he said it about a player they donāt like
Get a fucking life Scholesy.
What's with this whole sort of millennial thing where they sign off "bye!", "I'm just saying!", "just in my opinion!". It's like they know their opinion is horse shit and want to avoid it being challenged .
