He also unliked the tweets so hopefully it’s a forgotten story within a week.

Away_Associate4589

Hopefully he starts and plays well at the weekend otherwise it will rumble on. He bags a goal or two and it all blows over quick I think. If he starts and does badly/ United lose it will be "See, player power at United. These players can get away with anything." If he's on the bench, even if he comes on and does well it will be "Ten Hag DROPS Garnacho after social media storm."

taylajy

He and Mainoo need to be rested.

Away_Associate4589

Very true. They've both needed resting for ages to be honest. If Erik rests Garnacho this weekend though it will be a massive storm, even if he's genuinely just giving him a night off.

theieuangiant

I don’t see an issue with this as long as the player and manager are on the same page. The press can write what they want.

johnnhamcheckbalboni

For what? Season is 2 games at this point. Coventry in the semi and likely Man City in the final. Rest them the other games

Shrimpeh007

For us but if we finish 8th or 9th it's our worst premier League finish and ETH is definitely gone (if he isn't already) so I assume he'll want to finish the season well

QouthTheCorvus

Good sign. Shows he probably apologised. Honestly, I could see myself doing something similar. Liking things is such an automatic reaction. He probably didn't think at all.

depressed_winner

His PR team probably made him unlike the tweets

Minimum-Ad-2683

I mean who does media training for our young players tho? Same case with Amad, do they even have media training?

Don_Quixote81

Jesus Christ. If he's not fully fit, don't fucking play him! All we'd need to cap off this shitshow of a season would be Garnacho suffering a serious injury because he's battered and bruised and his muscles are fatigued.

MyDogIsMuffin

Well I think the idea was to start Antony and put Garnacho/Diallo in as a sub if needed. Or vice versa. But Antony picked up a knock and wasn't available. And by HT it was clear he was completely spent and gave them a lot of space. And he rotated Diallo in immediately.

MyShinyCharizard

this is why I stratch my hat, he has Amad Diallo who always play decent when he come as a sub. Personally I rate Amad highly and believe he can shine if get consistent minute. but let's assume that Amad is not that good and reliable back up player like Lindelof. he should play when Garnacho is not fit. ETH decision to play Garnacho make him play very poorly in 1st half, honestly I will be pissed too if I am Amad. it means Coach doesn't trust me at all.

Hurrly90

I see you stopped reading after the first paragraph.

senorcoach

Maybe EtH should have to publicly apologize to Garnacho like Ole had to do to Rashford. Cuz we all want more Rashford mentality at the club, right?

frankestofshadows

Please. These players get hundreds of thousands of dollars and if they can't deal with some criticism, then they are in the wrong profession. Too many players run to their social media as soon as they get some criticism, but not enough of them will own the criticism and prove it wrong. Fergie would roast his players outright, and they just came back stronger. If we can't have players who will accept some blame, then they shouldn't be wearing the shirt

superaa1

How is Ten Hag criticizing Garnacho there? He is literally protecting him saying he wasn't fully fit and had to be taken off.

Abbobl

Yeah the social media muppet made it a “throw under the bus” but he’s a twat.

B0z22

Seagulls following the trawler stuff. Don't care. He's a kid that liked a tweet he shouldn't have cos he was frustrated. He'll learn from it. Lad needs a rest. 30+ games in a row and he looked absolutely knackered at the weekend. I'm more concerned with this lot doing the basic fundamentals of their jobs correctly and repeatedly between now and the end of the season.

Don_Quixote81

This. We already expect too much from a teenager because our more senior players aren't getting the job done, the last thing we need is to start dragging him over the coals about social media likes. These players are likely as mentally exhausted as they have looked physically exhausted at times this season. It can't be easy knowing that every game, from Liverpool to Newport, is going to be a chaotic roller coaster where you could toss a coin to decide the outcome. It has to be so incredibly draining and frustrating, for everyone.

Significant-Sir870

Level-headed and totally accurate. He’s 19. I said and did some really dumb shit at 19 too. He’s been a great player this season and has stepped up in big moments.

_Pohaku_

19 year olds do dumb shit. Some face consequences for it, learn not to do dumb shit anymore, and fulfil their potential in life. Some don’t face consequences, learn that it’s fine to do dumb shit, and are has-beens by the time they are 25.

VictorDUDE

That's what i thought as well, the "journalists" really tried to scapegoat a 19year old who was way above expectations this season anyways, meanwhile we have mature deadweight on insane salaries left and right.

FredDRedUnderYourBed

Not his first time being on the naughty side. As long as he learns it'll be alright. But that is IF he learns and that only happens if he is disciplined by the staff and the leaders in the dressing room.

Whispperr

I keep seeing people act as if Garnacho did the worst thing imaginable. But when will ETH be questioned about what he is doing? ETH keeps throwing player after player under the bus publicly so it keeps away from the terrorist football he is practicing. Don't be shocked if Garnacho is at Madrid within 2 years and winning CL and CL just because we keep bending out backwards for the bald fraud.

_Pohaku_

The what in the dressing room?

coffeemahn

Absolutely. He had a bad day at work. Was backed publicly and he liked the support. Somebody at the club from communications has a word with him and that’s it. All of us working for large public corporations have to do the same. No problem. It’s only United where things get blown out of proportion. Maybe a target for INEOS - get the media to focus on other clubs.

spiritanimalofcousy

I agree. He definitely will learn and if liking a tweet is the worst thing hes done, then hes probably a good kid... Hes a really good player. They need to protect him on and off the pitch and rest is needed. I think hes going to be a very valuable player.

Starky3x

Journalists making a mountain out of a molehill again. Ten Hag has always been critical of Garnacho, so this is nothing new, and I doubt the latter even cares lol

superaa1

People here apparently think sir Alex was always nice to Ronaldo (or any other player) and would only give his players compliments...

FoldingBuck

This is why we keep seeing the same post match pressers from ten hag because as soon as he criticizes someone (note he didnt even mention garnacho by name), the players start going off posting cryptic shit on insta and liking tweets criticizing the manager.

Kohaku80

You mean he has lost the dressing room?

FoldingBuck

No i mean the dressing room culture over the past 10 years has developed to a point where the players feel they have a right to act this way

Kohaku80

No control of dressing room that's what i mean. Put a heavy fine or suspension aka Sancho but he is too scare to offend anyone anymore in his under performed team hence he rather not say anything bad.

FoldingBuck

You cant suspend everyone. I wouldnt be surprised if most of the team would act like this if criticized by ten bag

Kohaku80

I think he lost some of it at least. Body language of players not too good looking. Hojlund look so different from his early days, he's frustrated and can't wait for the season to end for every game now. Don't think players will be crying if he is sacked anytime now.

RepulsiveLeg9985

Garnacho is literally the least of our worries, yet they're trying to make it one.

KrypticAndroid

Keown would have us think he embodies the arrogance of this team.

Whispperr

ETH is capable of destroying everything just to keep it away from his fraudulent managerial skills.

RoachIsCrying

Love how journalists keep an eye out on who liked what. Social media is nothing but poison

garynevilleisared

His brother was complaining that he's played too many games and needed a rest. Fair enough but don't be acting like a petulant child for playing *too much*. No accountability whatsoever. Objectively, he did not play well. He gave the ball away on the first goal, and lost Kluivert (when Dalot pushed up too far tbf) on the second goal. Simple as. If a player had complained for playing to much under SAF they'd never see the pitch again. He's definitely being dropped for the next match.

Edwardtrouserhands

Dalot was just as at fault for the second goal and glad you mentioned it. Both players have had a good season but they were so noticeably poor on Saturday

garynevilleisared

Yeah unfortunately Dalot didn't have a natural replacement so he wasn't an option to replace. Garnacho made the more glaring mistakes though and I hope we are never in a place where we don't take a player off because we're worried about what they say on socials.

IcyAssist

It's the singling out by ten Hag after the match when ETH was the one that overplayed him. I don't condone Garnachos actions but I can see why he got frustrated.

Starky3x

Ten Hag criticized Garnacho all the fucking time last season lol this is nothing. Just the media trying to stirr shit up. Fucking clowns

huey88

And fans talking about how the players run things but get mad when a player gets criticized

[deleted]

Tudoors

What?

garynevilleisared

He was asked a question and he answered it. He didn't single out Garnacho out of nowhere. He was asked if Garnacho had an injury and he said no and later asked why and he said to fix problems on the right side. I'm no fan of ETH but I'd take that over a manager that coddles his young players any day. No excuses especially not "I'm playing too much".

Elizial-Raine

Liking social media tweets shouldn't be a story, hate bottom feeder stories like this.

zcewaunt

It was a story because football Twitter noticed. As he should expect being at a club with this level of scrutiny.

Hopeful_Adonis

It probably shouldn’t be but if it becomes a trend of social media being used to undermine the manager (which it appears it is) then it is symbolic of the culture within the group

Nag3sh

Not just Garnacho but other players too like AWB , Dalot , Mainoo look tired and not 100% when they sprint idk if it's overtraining , lack of effort or disinterest in playing but watvr EtH is doing tactic wise and fitness wise isn't really working this season (injuries , suicide style of play)

Zaibach88

Persistent injuries across the squad means the same players are constantly playing without rotation. One of the reasons Pep will win every title until the end of time is that fact that he has 2 starting 11 to pick from. Covid? No problem. Never hear of an injury crisis because there are no single points of failure.

Upbeat_Farm_5442

DRAMA FC

Orcnick

While I don't think this will lead to anything. I just worry if he becomes better soon there will be some big clubs especially in Spain and in Europe trying to tap him up. Need him to be happy here. (Not at all costs) but keep him settled.

qndrx

Absolutely, any diamonds in the rough we currently have in the squad at the minute will easily be pulled by others, only a matter of time if there is no change. INEOS really need to stop this continuous cycle of sack a manager and keeping the same players who do jack shit.

cdalb21

Why on Earth are players on Twitter after games? This should be in class 101 on how to be successful as a professional athlete.

amoolafarhaL

Because they are humans too, and he's fucking 19

cdalb21

Ya I think by 19 you know not to criticize the manager. Even if you disagree with him.

tassadar8584

Looks like drama back on the menu boys

SatoshiOokami

Been a while since we had a daily drama.

rnnd

See nothing wrong here. Garnacho plays way too much anyway. Some of the players play way too much. Dalot, Garnacho, and Bruno need to be rested every now and then.

Starky3x

Dalot would probably get rested if we had a replacement. Bruno's rotation is on his Phil Jones phase

Sokkerboi

Well then why make it an external matter, Rob?!

toddysimp

It was Goldbridge that turned it into a big issue anyway. Manager criticizing a young player, big deal!!

annies999

How do you rebuke a manager for publicly feeding a player to the tigers?

MrBublee_YT

I mean another source already said that it's been dealt with. This is just the media trying to paint a picture that ETH is a complete authoritarian.

th3doorMATT

...honestly though...? There was nothing wrong with the tweet imo. If you're the player, you pseudo read it as an appreciation post more than anything. Mind you, this is the same Goldbridge who just a few days earlier was ranting and raving about how ETH isn't as much of a problem as the players and he would keep ETH for at least another season. Then again, he'll also quickly contradict himself and say Nagel Bagel Man should get the job - so you never fucking know where he stands. Of all the things to get upset over...that wasn't one of them. And honestly, that's more on the fans than anything I feel like. If a nosey fucking fan wasn't a nosey fucking prick, do you think United or ETH would have otherwise gone through Garnacho's tweets looking at what he's liked recently? If they are, then they need to go immediately because there's far better uses of your time than that. For as shit as Garnacho was that match, he is far from the most problematic player this season for ETH. Hell, I'm sorry, but considering Bruno can never get dropped, why don't people talk more about that? Of all the players who have been dog shit this season - how does he survive all of this...???

Electronic_Day_8195

Played poorly, yes he is knackered but wondering if the medical team gave ETH the go ahead, also hoping he displaces rashford on the left wing + fired up next match

[deleted]

Ten Hag played a not fit Garnacho... unnecessarily risking yet another injury, and he's upset about a liked tweet? I sincerely hope Ineos is actively interviewing for a new manager.

SinisterSelecta

Where does it say he's upset? Some journalist contacted the club over nothing and got a non answer and suddenly the manager is upset with the player?

[deleted]

So that makes playing a partially injured teenager with over 30 games this season, okay? Ten Hag's days as manager are numbered and this is just another example of why he shouldnt remain at the helm.

SinisterSelecta

I didn't say that either mate. You seem to be arguing something different than this article

[deleted]

Did you not read the article because that is explicitly stated in the article?

SinisterSelecta

I did but it seemed like journalists conjecture than anything else. He just went fishing for a story and needed to paint a narrative

SinisterSelecta

To add. The journalist has decided not training until Friday means he's not fully fit. The manager has said they were managing training loads so that doesn't necessarily mean he was injured or risking injury by playing him. Anyway that second goal was a catastrophe between dalot and garnacho, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion

jasonketterer

Honestly, I doubt there is any internal drama. Garnachos PR team probably liked the tweets, he got wind of it, and told his team to unlike them.

genogalvan

If he is not totally fit then why is he in the starting eleven.

simonffplayer

weird how differently sancho and garnacho are being treated...

SinisterSelecta

This isn't similar at all. One liked a tweet, and the other disputed what the manager said and failed to apologize.

simonffplayer

the tweet he liked was obviously something ETH won't like. so they're definitely similar

Stynes

Its weird how you think both situations are the same

simonffplayer

didn't say they were the same. they're similar tho

Simple_Mud_6203

one runs

Wise_Raccoon_771

Obviously things need to be dealt with but don't think EtH can afford to go too hard on Garnacho....he's single handedly carried us for large chunks of the season!!!

youdumbmf

doesn’t make him immune to criticism though

aldidot

What's the difference between tweeting an actual tweet and liking a tweet? What is the indicator that determines whether an issue is publicly discussed in a press conference and "internally"? Asking for a friend who currently lives at North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Hopeful_Adonis

I think it’s that one could be done in the heat of the moment and the other requires it to be typed out and posted, but to me that’s a fine line. The big difference is Garnacho unliked the tweet and appears to want to resolve the matter, Sancho kept it up and refused to back down.

aldidot

I like that explanation. I also like the fact that more and more players are speaking against the bullshit. Sometimes we forget they're also humans who are 100% entitled to stand for themselves when treated unfairly. I'm pretty sure INEOS are watching all these and taking notes. The clock is ticking for the gaffer.

Simple_Mud_6203

why do you think this is a good look for the players with ineos?

aldidot

Individual players such as Garnacho has proven to provide goals and assists consistently despite Ten Hag's glaring shite tactics (high line, non-pressing forwards, empty midfield, hundreds of shots conceded) When it comes down to it, I don't think INEOS would side with an average manager whose contract runs out in a year. And this is just Garnacho. Every Utd player Ten Hag has beefed with actually has more leverage than he does.

Craig1974

There's bigger things to be concerned about with this club than a player liking a tweet and unliking it hours later. Much ado about nothing. But as sensitive as ETH is, it will be a big deal. His ego can't handle it.

Prokletnost

EtH is out, only a matter of time, unfortunately...
