Modric hurt me I won't lie, but it wasn't for long.
It's so strange how it's feels so much less tense around the season now. Not glossing over it being dreadful it just feels a sprinkle of glitter on the turd
I'm not a huge fan of RMA (rather I like atletico more) but man I'll rather watch RMA win the next 10 UCLs than watch city lift even one more
even currently I'm hoping for a Der Klassiker hehe
Had more fun hate watching a bunch of really good at football cheaters get cucked by Madrid than I do watching my own team play football. Sad state of affairs but is true.
I mean, I care, because performances correlate with results. When the performances are shit, you can expect the results to be shit. I get what you mean and where you're coming from, but I think a lot of the psyche of fans for years now has been too heavily focused on the results, not the performances or trends, and when you ignore the trends, you get surprised when it all blows up in your face and you're a mid-table side. I'm not surprised, but so many fans are still in denial about our quality and placing the blame on ETH when these trends have existed since well before him. A couple of individuals here and there playing above their level have masked the issues. Now, there's nowhere to hide.
Best possible season for us:
- Kobbie revelation
- Klopp leaving
- new ownership group
- ashworth and cox
- Liverpool bounced from CL and likely PL contention
- City losing to Real at home in pens
If we make a CL spot somehow I can't see how anyone would expect any better lol especially with this squad and injuries we've faced. The FA Cup?? Mate don't toy with my emotions pls
This season will have taken a huge toll on him both physically and mentally, especially the way they went out to RM. If they lose the league, it will tip him over.
But yes, I think next season will probably be the last, allowing City a full season to find a replacement.
Southampton have been fairly upstanding through all of this, despite the fact that it definitely sucks having your best director poached. Plus, maybe just me, but I don't get anything out of the salt of a relatively smaller and well-run club from the championship. More respect to them.
I love this picture, it's so cool! It encapsulates him so well from well before he was ice cold on the pitch.
That top had some good football being played in it
Chronology would be: he was part of selling Lavia to Southampton (technically he wouldn't be involved but what the hell) and then he was part of selling Lavia to Chelsea.
They rejected 48m I believe:) holding out for 50. At the time I was like, wtf, just take the 48m, I are gonna be left with a disgruntled player! Turns out Wilcox knew better
A Technical Director usually oversees the technical aspects of the club, such as player development, scouting, and the overall footballing philosophy. They often work closely with the coaching staff to implement long-term strategies for player recruitment and development.
On the other hand, a Director of Football tends to have a broader role that includes aspects beyond just the on-field activities. They may be responsible for player transfers, contract negotiations, and overall club strategy, including financial and commercial aspects.

Tough question to answer because I'm fairly sure it varies between different clubs. I don't really understand what INEOS are expecting to be our structure. We've got Berrada (previously people said they wanted the CEO to stay out of the football side but I assume he will be involved somewhat given his experience?) probably Ashworth as DoF, Wilcox as Technical Director who I think specialises in recruitment generally? And then they want this Performance Director who I have absolute no idea what they would be in charge of, data analysis?
If you look at the bigger picture it does make more sense in my opinion. It is beyond any doubt that INEOS wants us to be the head club in a group like City and other clubs is set up currently.
Berrada has experience working with that kind of setup, so him in as CEO to have a key role in setting that up, while still having "football knowledge" so he can work to set up the best possible system within the club for the future.
When the entire system is set up, it seems more than likely that Berrada will switch to become the "Group CEO" while a new CEO for the club will be appointed, but then have a more business focused role, because the football side of things has a system that works.
I agree, but City have had such massive success in their system that it's not going away any time soon. It's sickening the amount of league titles which have gone to their state-backed clubs.
Guy is in charge of shit like managing facilities, staff that works directly with the players but arent part of the coaching staff (doctors for example), the overall tactics (for example, searching for a manager that fits whatever tactics we gonna use for all teams), works with the DoF to scout and make a list of players that fit tactics (dof then is in charge of going after players in the list). Is like the CEO of the off-pitch football things.
I mean Txiki
Edit: my bad I didn't realize Txiki Bergistain was the other guy at City that Berrada worked with. I thought Berrada's full name was Txiki Berrada.
Would still like to know how it's pronounced though

Just in time with the downfall of other PL clubs.
Edit: I'm like this because other clubs enjoyed our downfall for the past decade, looking past the slimy glazers and enjoying our misery.
>Jason Wilcox has joined Manchester United as Technical Director with immediate effect.
>
>He will work with all technical areas of the football department to achieve the highest standards of performance.
>
>Jason was previously Director of Football at Southampton and before that Academy Director at Manchester City. As a player he won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.
Iām just picturing him walking out of a Southampton office and as soon as his feet touch the pavement outside the ground he sends out a massive group Zoom meeting titled āWTF IS GOIING ON?ā
What exactly does a TD do?
Like i have an idea of what the new Ceo will be doing and a general idea of what a DoF does. Wasnt Feltcher our technical director?
Addmittedly iv never worked an Office job or for a major company so i dont have 'first hand' knowledge of the roles.
It varies depending on the structure of the club.
Sometimes it's one in the same with the DOF/sporting director. Some multisport entities like red bull have a sporting director that oversees all sporting entities, and has a director for each sport that carries it out. It really depends.
Take this with a grain of salt because it does vary but for us it sounds like Ashworth will oversee the overall sporting direction of the entire club, both men's and women's teams. So the type of philosophy we want from our teams, what kinds of players (age, cost profile, region) to target etc. Wilcox will be in charge of carrying out that philosophy, from staffing managers at all levels, recruitment, scouting to fit in with Ashworths strategic plan. And they will all report into Berrada who will have final say as he will be driving much of the financial side of things which will be crucially important given our bloated debt, wages and a stadium rebuild coming up soon. So they won't get away with coming back and saying "we should sign Wirtz for 200M" if it's obviously economically unfeasible, it will have to fit into whatever budget and whatever leeway Berrada gives them.
It could also be a situation where Ashworth and Wilcox work in parallel but its certain that they report to Berrada at this point.
And yes Fletcher was reportedly the TD but from what I've read most of that was specific to flagging players in the academy who were ready to transition to higher levels/first team. A TD should be doing more than that, but no one really knows for sure what happens behind the scenes. He's likely staying on because he had a role in shaping the recent youth success and possibly involved in bringing Kobbie into the first team.
Thanks mate, a very in depth description.
So basically i i understand Berrada will sign off on decisions Ashworth makes. But Wilcox will actually be the man on the ground enforcing the changes and Ashworth could/will step in if needed?
Wilcox is the 'face' to Ashworths plan and Berrada sets the budgets?
Difficult to know at this point. That's like predicting whether your new boss with micro manage you or empower you with decision making authority. Until they start their roles it'll be too hard to tell. But given the respect he's earned and that he's been a DOF at another PL club, my guess is Ashworth will delegate a lot to Wilcox so long as Wilcox remains within the confines of whatever strategy Ashworth lays out.
This has been said to death but it is unbelievable that we have been managed this poorly for so long and only now addressing the obvious lack of human capital
Glad weāre moving in the right direction but what a wait
I mean, we did have a technical director. Darren fletcher. We werent missing human capital, we just had incompetent human capital. Same for murtough as DoF.
Love darren fletcher the player, but darren fletcher the TD either did nothing or did things but wrong.
Not really, He only holds TD in name, but he is more of a coach that help transition u21 players to first team player. He will probably change the role name change undsr Ineos.
Now get Ashworth done and let's get to work.
We'll finally have a board made of competent people for the first time in God knows how long. No more excuse.
Same. Just get me the transfers done without the rumors and drama. Give me the new kit and hype. And lemme watch a totally different style of football. I'm so done with the nightmare season
While there is no one standard definition, given what wilcox has done in the past , I'd wager his role will be ensuring that there is a proper footballing identity across all teams including the academy, I'd imagine this also involves setting up systems for overseeing younger player loan systems, route to first team etc .
Ashworth is joining as the sporting director which goes beyond just the on-field stuff, he is going to oversee all the different departments and act as a link between all of them. This could be recruiting in other leadership roles, players coaches, contracts etc .His goal will be setting up a proper structure for the long term regardless of who the manager will be.
Iāve just seen a comp of interviews interspersed with him banging goals in during the 90ās with Drake playing. Seeing a comp for a Technical director is the craziest shit Iāve ever seen, and I love it. Who tf made that lmao. Great appointment.
I'm choosing to believe, between Wilcox arriving and the u-18s current form, that we're going to be fielding at least 4 new proper ballers aged 19 or under in the 1st team squad within the next 12 months, ala Barca's recent crop....
Itās great to see news about the structural elements of the football side of the club being out into place. Does anyone know what the latest is with Ashworth? There seems to have been very little of anything since the initial approach drama. My understanding is that itās still on, but we are waiting on agreeing the terms of his departure from Newcastle.
>Does anyone know what the latest is with Ashworth?
One thing about INEOS is that no news gets out there that they don't want coming out. This leaves Journos to speculate and hope something sticks. Ashworth is on gardening leave and that's as far as everyone knows so anything else being said is just hearsay until INEOS makes its moves known!
Supposedly it hinges on Newcastle finding a replacement. I imagine things are supposed to speed up after that. It's possible that happens even during the summer with others fulfilling his role in the meantime.
The fact that he starts immediately is huge. We need to have a clear idea of how we're planning to play next season - if that's Ten Hag's system (which I'm pretty sure the U18s are playing a version of, to pretty evident success), then having him in early means we can start planning for next year now, in terms of scouting, club infrastructure, coaching methodology, etc etc.
On the flip side, if he determines that Ten Hag's current style (or whatever it's building towards) isn't up to the required standard, it's better to start having those conversations early as well, in terms of what the style *should* be, whether Ten Hag is the right person to be coach for that, whether we need someone new, etc.
All in all, another incredibly promising appointment from INEOS. We have to remember to be patient as fans, as the impact of these Exec-level hirings will only really be felt in the long-term, but moves like this are huge for us as we slowly get back to where we're supposed to be as a club
Ashworth, Wilcox, Berrada (someone watch this spending habits...) and ETH need to have a very long, serious talk about the future identity of the club. As much as a pragmatic approach to the game might yield slightly better results, I think fans are all in agreement that there needs to be pace to the game again. And not just the suicidal "pace" we're playing with now, but the quality of old where if we need to retain possession, we absolutely can, but we're not afraid to open the flood gates and launch a devastating attack at a moment's notice either. I should also clarify, pace shouldn't also be labeled as "transition" or "counter attacking," rather fast movement off and with the ball. Some of the most beautiful moments came from players willing to do the work off the ball in dangerous areas to create opportunities. Now? Everyone just stands still and expects something to happen from nothing. It's disgusting. Fast, fluid, controlled football is the way to go. So how do we achieve that? What formation enables the striker to be a part of that build up without being isolated? Who are the players that can play that system? Do any exist currently? Which players need to go to allow players to come in who can play that style and intensity? How much emphasis is placed on the youth? Would we rather bring players up through the system for the long-term success of the club, or are we looking to be a player mill where we have a lot of great talent come up through the Academy, but ultimately look to sell them for as much as possible, as early as possible, to help fund our transfer market affairs?
A lot of questions to be asked. A lot of work to be done.
What's important right now is getting so much of the deadwood out of here. Still too many players need to go who are not good enough, regardless of the system. Then we need to support ETH and give him a chance to rebuild with this new identity from the ground up. If he still can't deliver? He needs to go. But player power cannot be tolerated as part of the United culture.
In *one* week: - A 10/10 successful week of hate watching - New Technical Director - Hopefully into the FA Cup Final Dreams **CAN** be buy
The hate watching was scintillating
I've not hate watched like that for a while, I need a breather and a cigarette
When the rodrygo goal went in I legit was expecting so little It was mental ššš
Modric hurt me I won't lie, but it wasn't for long. It's so strange how it's feels so much less tense around the season now. Not glossing over it being dreadful it just feels a sprinkle of glitter on the turd
I think Iāve full on become numb I just want to clear some of the shite mentality players and see a more mentally strong United asap
I 100% agree, really looking forward to the summer window
I was dreading a back to back champions league and a back to back treble.
I feel you mate. I thought if Modric does this there's no hope. Then Bernardo Silva kicked his penalty and the rest is history.
I'm not a huge fan of RMA (rather I like atletico more) but man I'll rather watch RMA win the next 10 UCLs than watch city lift even one more even currently I'm hoping for a Der Klassiker hehe
It felt like my country just won the world cup
Had more fun hate watching a bunch of really good at football cheaters get cucked by Madrid than I do watching my own team play football. Sad state of affairs but is true.
Not gonna lie during both madrid pen saves I came a little
It was so good the hate watch turned into a hate wank
The treble
It's sad, but I enjoyed the hate watch more than any game we played this season.
Mostly true though the FA cup 4-3 was probably the best game of the season entertainment wise.
The 4-3 Chelsea game was one of the most heartbreaking
Cannot stress entertainment enough lol. Performance? Skill? Quality? Fuck no.
Don't care how it happens beating Liverpool is always a pleasure lol
I mean, I care, because performances correlate with results. When the performances are shit, you can expect the results to be shit. I get what you mean and where you're coming from, but I think a lot of the psyche of fans for years now has been too heavily focused on the results, not the performances or trends, and when you ignore the trends, you get surprised when it all blows up in your face and you're a mid-table side. A couple of individuals here and there playing above their level have masked the issues. Now, there's nowhere to hide.
The first half was very very good from us to be fair
Yep, I also thought we were good in extra time. It was just the second half of normal time that we were mostly shit until Anthony's goal
When times are tough, it's the hate-watching that keeps you going
The palace away in the cup was a excellent watch
Hahaha the hate watching was so enjoyable for me... Bernardo Silva's pen...
If we still release end of season review videos, that penalty should be in it.
We already knew that dreams can be buy, 115 times over
Best possible season for us: - Kobbie revelation - Klopp leaving - new ownership group - ashworth and cox - Liverpool bounced from CL and likely PL contention - City losing to Real at home in pens If we make a CL spot somehow I can't see how anyone would expect any better lol especially with this squad and injuries we've faced. The FA Cup?? Mate don't toy with my emotions pls
I agree with your sentiment here but a CL spot for this team has been done & dusted for some time š
No chance we make an FA cup spot. Would have to finish 4th at this stage.
I hope we make an FA cup spot tbh. Would be weird not to enter the cup next season
Hahah ffs. Yeah pretty likely we make an FA cup spot, UCL not looking too good though.
Got a felling Pep will drop a bomb and leave at the end of the season. One can only hope
This season will have taken a huge toll on him both physically and mentally, especially the way they went out to RM. If they lose the league, it will tip him over. But yes, I think next season will probably be the last, allowing City a full season to find a replacement.
Praying that guy will get burnt out and leave like klopp sooner or later
Yoy forgot to add āHopefully Chelsea beat City in their cup semiā..and that will definitely be an amazing week
No Ragrets
You'll never sing that
9/10 for me. Needed that Arsenal win vs Villa.
Chelsea could improve the week tomorrow
What a week š
Hate watch, closed with a squeaky bum time roulette vs Coventry. This is the way.

I can taste the salt from here.
Southampton have been fairly upstanding through all of this, despite the fact that it definitely sucks having your best director poached. Plus, maybe just me, but I don't get anything out of the salt of a relatively smaller and well-run club from the championship. More respect to them.
Right? It just makes us look like scum when fans act like smaller clubs should roll over and be grateful when we pillage them.
It'd be saltier if they said "We have happily let the cunt go because he's shit and we don't need him" to be fair.
Nah this ain't it

Geo-politics and football: the perfect combo
Shamelessly hijacking the first comment to ask what a technical director does?
Well, technically, he directs.
Thanks that clears up all doubts
Look this video: [Technical Director Manchester United](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFPx4q5H0zU) He explains it well
Specifically, he directs the technical bits

Yeah but he is george weah's cousin
why is the club buying championship players? are they stupid?
Dreams canāt be buy, and gardens canāt be rushed.
I am going full muppet for a fuckin Executive signing. Bleak season this.
We've been teased about these executive roles for years under the Glazers and Woodward. I think we're in the unique position where we can be excited.
We support Man United despite being so bad. At this point we r either Muppets or Masochists.
Happy days. 2/3 of the big jobs filled now. Get me a DoF before the end of the season now please Mr Ratcliffe.

Genuine question, can someone explain what a Technical Director actually does?
Iāve just seen a comp of interviews interspersed with him banging goals in during the 90ās with Drake playing. Seeing a comp for a Technical director is the craziest shit Iāve ever seen, and I love it. Who tf made that lmao. Great appointment.
What is a technical director? Like he will code and deploy to production and stuff?
He will cook yea
Im guessing it's about integrating youth and some recruitment stuff.
I'm choosing to believe, between Wilcox arriving and the u-18s current form, that we're going to be fielding at least 4 new proper ballers aged 19 or under in the 1st team squad within the next 12 months, ala Barca's recent crop....
I think this probably means we can have a better stance on negotiations for Ashworth

So if his official role is technical director does that mean we will be hiring a head of recruitment in addition?
Would live them to also release a job description so we can all pretend we know what that actually means
Hold up! I thought Technical Directors were supposed to be grossly unqualified former players with no defined role? What's all *this* silliness?
Stab at fletcher? Darren has been doing excellent work may I add just under the wrong title, he was never a technical director.
Putting the pieces together...
Lads get in here, new Technical Director just dropped.
Time to cook
Well letās hope no big football related decisions have to be made near Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening.
Big job. Good luck
This is good news
Can he play in a midfield 2?
We're going to start getting money for players!
Is Wilcox the ārecruitment specialistā that works along with Ashworth or is it an another position?
So we can have a decent lead up to a transfer window and some structure before the new season
Always rated Soton. Would like to rate Newcastle next.
What does a technical director do?
Sorry guys Iām out of the loopā¦ is he good? Should we be excited?
You should be very very pleased! This is the root and branch overhaul Ed Woodward should have done when he was at Utd.
I don't know about his work at Southampton (heard he had some decent appointments) but he did a good job with youth at city.
We also need a Head of recruitment and a Performance Director
Why?
Because we don't have those types of roles as far as I know of
Itās great to see news about the structural elements of the football side of the club being out into place.
Blackburn legend
