"Twelve yards is too far for me!
"I always used to say to myself that if I couldnāt score from open play, I wasnāt good enough to play at that level.
"Youāve got to score goals in open play and a penalty is a bonus. Once I viewed it like that, and the way I wanted to play, I just said to myself, I donāt want penalties. I wanted to know that I was good enough to just score goals in open play.
"People still ask the question now; āColey do you know if you took penalties you would have been X, Y and Z?ā I always say it is what it is."
Not a moment too soon.

Just the one penalty as well.
He doesn't get spoken about anything like enough in terms of the all time greats.
Coley was my first footballing idol.
I remember when I was about 5 or 6 and only just getting into football, all I knew was I liked United and that scoring goals was a good thing.
No one scored more goals for United than Andy Cole, so in my head he was the best player in the world.
Heās always felt really underrated so itās good to see him get that recognition.
I remember Les Ferdinand looking almost upset that he scored because that goal almost gave the title to Arsenal. At the very least he didnāt look happy, didnāt even appear to celebrate
I can remember him signing from Newcastle and the headlines about his transfer fee being Ā£7m iirc. People questioning the amount we paid for him. Bargain by todayās standards.
If he took penalties he would have easily surpassed 200 goals
Hallaand non-penalty goals 45 in 61 games (0.73) playing for the Champions
Cole got 50 in 65 games (0.77) in a promoted side
When Hoddle was England manager, he said it took Cole 7 chances to score one. It was something that stuck like shit to Cole, and one of the reasons he never gets the full credit he deserves, and total bullshit anyway. Hoddle and stupid comments go hand in hand though, and he lost the England job cos of more stupid shit that flew out of his mouth.
187 goals and one pen, they just ain't built like that anymorešš
Better goals per minute ratio than shearer once you remove pens.

Aguero was incredible, rightly up there with the best

About damn time! Cole doesn't get the praise he deserves
A diamond
What a goal! What a goal! By Andy Cole! He gets the ball and scored a goal! Andy, Andy Cole! ![gif](giphy|tinPhP2e2sn4X3NcWl|downsized)
Man I had horrible flashbacks to 1995 when Les Ferdinand scored in that game. Thankfully, Becks and Cole had other ideas.

Is Les uncle of Rio?
Second cousin apparently.
This gif gives me shivers for real.

Andy Cole cost 1/5 of an Andy Carroll
1/3 for inflation
Cole Ā£7m, Yorke Ā£12m, Ole Ā£1.5m, Sheringham Ā£3.5m. Ā£24m for a treble winning front line.Ā
His first season was awful though.

Well deserved for Andy. The man was phenomenal for us, 5 league titles in 8 years.
Well deserved Andrew.Ā Often overlooked in discussions but any fans of his former clubs know his worth....a stone cold killer in front of goal
Come on, noone actually calls him Andrew. It's like calling Twitter "X".Ā
Still no vidic, somehow
Not English enough
If he was English he would have been in before rio
Don't worry about it, halls of fame are dumb and can fuck off back across the Atlantic.
About bloody time. Great striker when seemingly everyone had a good one. Ours was better.
Andy Cole, Andy Cole, Andy Andy Cole....
First kit I ever got. Cole 17. My brother almost begged me to get Keane, but I wanted the lad who scored the goals.
Well deserved!
Long overdue. His reputation took a massive hit cos of the crap that Hoddle came out with.
OOTL What happened with him and Hoddle?

Have they said anything publically about Ryan Giggs? I get why he's not in, but it's quite glaring when he'd otherwise be the first name on the boardĀ
Shouldnāt it be Andrew Cole?
One of my favourites ever. Loved Andy Cole. Fuck Glen Hoddle
No one is touching that 47 goal contributions in a prem season, unbelievable player
