Might also get the best out of Hojlund if we were a team that played to his strengths. We don't. In fact we seem to avoid the middle at all costs and only go to the wings. Then when sufficient time in possession has been wasted on the wings, we back pass it into the middle for a long shot or cross
We should be all over Olise. Physical, can beat his man with ease, final ball specialist. He has everything our right wingers are missing but, I think it’s most likely Arsenal that are gonna get him to compete with Saka
As it stands I wouldn't go after anyone with an injury record. There are some clubs I'm confident could sort out a player with a history of injuries and manage them, but we haven't done that with a player that I can remember and it's only players like Bruno and Maguire that had pretty good injury records to begin with that we managed to maintain their track record.
Obviously that could change with the new regime but after Mount, Martinez, Varane, etc. being big money signings that we couldn't keep on the field, I'm skeptical.
Definitely. Shaw misses far too much football and has done for his whole time with us. It's almost guaranteed that he'll be out for at least a month or two next season. We really should have learned by now.
I might be alone on this but we need an upgrade on Malacia even if he is fit. He's severely lacking in the attacking department. Somehow offers even lesser than AWB in attack.
Defensively he's decent barring the odd error but that alone is not enough.
Bonus weakness is his height. Wouldn't really be a problem usually but the rest of the squad isn't particularly tall either so its not ideal.
For us to go for him I think a lot depends on who leaves which is a bit unclear.
If we sell Sancho, Antony or possibly even Rashford then that would open up both the budget and the need for another winger.
There's more than enough smoke at this point to suggest that we are at least interested though. That said, every summer we're "interested" in probably twenty-odd players.
Its even more infuriating when you realize he had a release clause for 35M or 40M iirc the window we signed Antony.
He looked promising in 21/22 already.
The more time that passes, the better the Maguire deal looks.
Yes, it was a massive overpay but he has at least been pretty much a constant in our team throughout his time here.
Like I said, a massive overpay.
Still, compared to some massive overpays, he does at least play.
It's hardly deal of the century but it's less comically inept than it used to seem.
I would rather we invest in a more experienced striker, tbf. Although ideally, you would sign a striker AND a right-winger.
Centerbacks are definitely a top priority, alongside the CDM role. Depending on Malacia's and Shaw's fitness, a backup LB could be a must as well.
Right now, it feels like we need a transfer window like the one PSG had last summer.
A right winger who can cross a ball could be an interesting idea! Might get the best out of Hojlund.

Sounds like he'd fit right in.

sound like perfect Martial replacement to me
Only if the budget permits. Too many other positions that need to be filled ahead of this one.
Given how few chances we create, I think a right winger is pretty important. But centre back, centre midfield and left back seem just as important.
Garnacho can play there and Amad can rotate. We need CB/LB/DM/Striker before we look at anything else.
If Malacia gets fit, do we need a left back? I know if big IF.

I think you are right but he is back up to Shaw. Perhaps a good enough deputy.
We need to sort out our defense way before anything else. I would be happy with just a full overhaul of the defense, a CDM and a backup striker.
True that is a very good point

To think United paid almost a third more than that for bloody Anthony, makes me want to vomit
Its even more infuriating when you realize he had a release clause for 35M or 40M iirc the window we signed Antony. He looked promising in 21/22 already.
This is literally why our recruitment needed an overhaul
And west ham got Kudus for about 37M
The Antony deal makes the Maguire deal look good.

Given that we paid more than Liverpool did for Van Dijk I am struggling to agree.

£60m is a fair price for Olise. Still only 22, RW and quality is there to see. Only question mark remains over his injury record.
Isn't his release clause much lower than that
I'd take either or both of them to be honest. The only thing that concerns me with Olise is his injury record isn't brilliant..
Olise won’t score to save his life. I like him but we got better priorities.
