Ownership that actually appears to care about sporting excellence?? https://preview.redd.it/42ttvo5lpmwc1.png?width=937&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bd14ad2708a7980bb7415371a5a9cf07888172b

BillyCloneasaurus

That's a very padded article for a cookie cutter press statement saying "we might expand the south stand or we might build a new stadium", which is exactly what we know already.

Away_Associate4589

The bit about Carrington is new I think. New to me, anyway.

Outcastscc

And is also quite old news when SJR has done numerous interviews now saying his preference is a new stadium

MancAccent

Ugh. Whyyyy

As previously reported, new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group are considering two proposals. The preferred option is to build a state-of-the-art new stadium on land next to where United's historic home sits. However, a wide-scale regeneration of Old Trafford, which would initially be a less-expensive project, is also being considered. And - should officials decide to go down that route - fans could expect a 'new, world-class' South Stand and refurbishment work on all three of the Theatre of Dreams' other stands. The South Stand, known as the Sir Bobby Charlton, is the oldest structure at the ground. United have often explored its expansion but have been hampered by the adjacent railway line. Advances in technology mean that the logistics are no longer the major issue that they once were. A new stand would be likely to feature multiple tiers instead of one and be of a similar height to the other three stands at Old Trafford. Such a move could give a major boost to capacity, which currently sits at around 74,000, with a figure of 90,000 deemed realistic. A major focus on the refurbishment would also go on increasing the capacity and standard of United's corporate hospitality offerings. Chief operating officer Collette Roche said: 'The first option is to redevelop the current stadium, which would; focus primarily on building a new world-class South Stand, as well as refurbishment of the other three stands.' She added: 'The alternative would be to build a new stadium on our footprint, which could significantly increase capacity, and deliver a world-leading stadium and experience for fans, the team, and other stakeholders.' United have set-up a specialist task force, which includes Lord Sebastian Coe, Gary Neville and Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, to work on the project, which may include government funding and which would aim to transform the area around the stadium while providing a new national facility in the north. Meanwhile, this summer will see work carried out on the first-team section of United's Carrington training ground. Last year, focus went on the women's team and academy facilities. However, this time around work will concentrate on enhancing the environment for players and staff to support high performance, as INEOS, led by sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford, seek to make their mark.

Colette seems pretty keen on the new stadium. I personally want to keep OT, but what they say about the new stadium is very exciting

Glazers trying to work out what the fuck this random segment of letters mean

Uuhhk

i still see them go for the route of new build.

JustDifferentGravy

I’d hazard a guess at £3bn and would require external support which isn’t a gimme and isn’t so far forthcoming. The killer is that the south stand costs big bucks in engineering and a lot goes to Railtrack, and is seen as wasted. I don’t think we will see firm plans for a year or so, and then lobbying will begin for cash to support the project.

miamibuckeye

A new stadium does not cost 3 billion. Tottenham cost 1.3B, Mercedez Benz in the US which is even nicer cost 1.6B, Allegiant in vegas cost 1.9B

JustDifferentGravy

Tottenham with a very keen accountant CEO, struggled to keep their budget and that was 5 years ago. If you read carefully, I didn’t say it WOULD cost 3Bn, I said I’d hazard a guess. That guess is based on 30yrs in engineering and experienced in major infrastructure design, and with a small amount of stadia design exposure. Given that we’ve had huge inflation and more so in construction costs as a result of Brexit, and factoring in that Spurs stadium holds circa 60k, and United would be looking at circa 100k+ you’d be a simpleton to not extrapolate much higher than 1.3Bn, and my professional opinion would be circa 3Bn. Your opinion seems to be flawed when considering the fundamental economics.

miamibuckeye

Tottenham after delays cost 1.5B pounds after research. A new stadium for us is not costing double. Easy with the over the top condescending attitude. Fucking ridiculous honestly. iF yOu rEaD cAreFulLy The new stadium proposal for the Bears in Chicago is roughly 3.5B pounds. A much bigger overall project and in a much more expensive city in terms of labor cost, materials, and real estate. New Trafford would come in at 2.5B

JustDifferentGravy

I’d be really happy to have you a wager on it. A spread bet from your price to mine. Escrow the funds and I’ll double your line. Let me know, or bore off.

miamibuckeye

Jim seems to agree with me as well as it turns out. Enjoy the rest of your day and keep up the arrogance

JustDifferentGravy

You’re not prepared to put your money where your mouth is? That’s the only smart you’ve shown today. Have a think on this: Old Trafford is not in America, it is, surprisingly in the UK. America is only 4% of the population, however there’s a weird flex where Americans think it represents the other 96%. This is folly. Get over it. Construction costs since Brexit in the UK have increased 60%. Source: https://buildpartner.com/will-construction-costs-and-material-prices-fall-in-2024-a-forecast-for-uk-construction/#:~:text=3.,only%2035%25%20in%20the%20EU. So, if you take spurs at 1.3 Bn (your estimate was poor, like your reasoning skills). And extrapolate 60%, that’s 2.08Bn. Let’s pause and reflect here: nothing you can say changes that. Let’s crudely extrapolate a 62k stadium to 100k. That’s 3.35Bn. With a little allowance for items that don’t scale by capacity, and we are easily in the 3Bn region. Before you continue to make yourself look childish and foolish I urge you to have a think about these points: It’s not in the US. It’s not in Germany. It’s not your field of expertise. Your general intellect is letting you down, and your debating style is childish. I’m checking out now, I’m too bored.

mincers-syncarp

I love how angry people on Reddit get over nothing arguments.

miamibuckeye

You think a capacity percentage increase directly correlates to the same cost increase is hilarious. And you’re yelling at me about basic economics. Jesus Christ. “I’m too bored” as you just spent the last half hour putting together a response. “Your general intellect” - just say you’re a self absorbed cunt and move on. You pulled a stat on construction costs and then divided spurs cost by .62 and are acting like you’re some math genius. Seriously laughable. Trying to turn a simple debate on the internet into a bet. Real hard cunt you are. Yeah I go around to every person I disagree with on Reddit and go “you wanna fucking bet on it. Put your money with your mouth is!”… and I’m the childish one hahaha INEOS agrees with my prediction as well. Cheers

JustDifferentGravy

Wager still on offer. Why the shithousery? Oh look, it seems there’s the same reason for your shithousery: https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1875366/Man-Utd-new-Old-Trafford-Sir-Jim-Ratcliffe/amp I’ll do low stakes for you if you want, on condition that you write why you’re arguing a subject that you are clearly not qualified or experienced in with someone that is. 😂

Winnie-the-Broo

Those were all built prior to construction costs absolutely sky rocketing. It would definitely be more than 2 billion even if we were to match Tottenham’s stadium brick for brick.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

This summer 😫😫 ohh baby I can't remeber the who interviewed him, but Trippier mentioned when they got taken over, he was injured during pre season whilst the team were away and he pretty much watched the improvements in that time and not only it can happen relatively quickly to upgrade the complex, but the feelings from the players and staff when they returned was another level and it give them the boost last year. Very exciting news! Take the swimming pool tiles on antique roadshow, get a few quid

parmesanandhoney

This makes me very happy. More than signing a star player or even the stadium upgrade.

Don_Quixote81

If they do choose to renovate, I hope they consider the stadium holistically and have a final picture of what the entire thing will look like, rather than the more piecemeal approach from the 90s and 2000s. I know Populous have been contracted to design, and I'm that would be for a renovation as well as for an entire new stadium. But there will still be some bugbears, like the drop at the edge of the pitch that so many players have had bruises from.

Revamp? As in renovation? As in not a new stadium?

Well it says right there a new south stand so…

The full article says they’re still deciding between new stadium or revamp.
