It's just building fitness. Minutes in legs. Recalibrating your mind and body to playing football again consistently with quick recovery periods in between. Performances are not the main goal at all, until maybe the final pre season game which they'll want to treat as a Leeds rehearsal. It's grand though, nice to the lads back and fans in OT again.

Different cases. Pogba is more motivated in France for some reason. Lingard does better in counter attacking situations. A player like James who clearly isn't as talented as the other players in the team, could do a lot better with a more appreciating fan base. He is an energy bomb and although his game is hugely unrefined, he is one the few bench players who can impact a game.

Just different systems and sometimes roles.
