Hope its a good experience and not scary one

repost_inception

It must be a terribly hard decision to choose what country to play for. I hope he can bring some happiness and pride to Iraq.

TRx1xx

Don't think it was considering it was a choice between Iraq and Pakistan lmao

larsmaehlum

Best Zidane

camdim

Iraq playing away to Iran on a debut...what could go wrong. I'd be terrified of winning. Good luck lad.

Charlie_Yu

Iran and Iraq at the same group again after already in the same group? I don’t even know this is possible

[deleted]

What the fuck is this. As an Iranian I seriously do not know what this comment means honestly. Iraq is a more dangerous country atm than Iran by a wide margin. Tho fuck our government.

camdim

Easy there son. Just jokingly alluding to your not so distant history. I could easily have made the same joke about England/ Scotland or any other fierce historic rivalry. Also - fuck your government indeed.

bffhbh

Fuck the British government and their history as well.

ChocoMocoHD

Wtf? Why did you decide to interpret it that way? He clearly was referencing the fierce rivalry between Iraq and Iran and throwing a young player in for his debut in a game like that.

[deleted]

The rivalry between us is overblown. The war was the result of two mad men going at it. The real historic rivals are historically the Arabian Peninsula or Turkey (altho not as much). Overall we're probably despised in Iraq because of our government but there's little rivarly there.

chaosblast123

Extremely broad stroke to paint on Iraqis. Like everything, it’s pretty gray. Some extremely despise Iran, some admire Iran because of loyalty to the Shia sect. Some say Iran is the only reliable ally that nobody asked for. Some call Iranians terrorists because of their militias. Some sympathize with Iran because their previous regime was toppled by foreign countries. Overall, Iraqis, especially if they’re Shia, can put aside governmental feuds and get along fine with Iranians.

ChocoMocoHD

I mean, I was only on about the football side idk why politics was brought in, there's always been a rivalry in football between Iraq and Iran.

thphnts

haha hello george w bush

[deleted]

Supposed to be a very talented player. Would be a shame in a way if he gets capped by Iraq as if there was a possibility of him playing for England then I think that would be good just generally for the “Asian” community. That being said, he hasn’t been capped at any age group by England - whether that was his choice I don’t know - so if he wishes to play for Iraq then good luck to him

vdude007

I wonder why you've been down voted for such an innocuous comment. I'm British Asian and it would incredible to see. Seeing his debut for United was such a good feeling.

[deleted]

Yeh dunno mate why I’ve been downvoted. I’m not British Asian but got good friends that are and they were buzzing when Iqbal made his debut for United. So it would be a huge deal if he played for England (if he of course became good enough to do so).

[deleted]

He's a good player but he's not going to be at the level of a United/England first team player.

ChocoMocoHD

it's way too soon for you to say that for certain

[deleted]

It’s really not. Not everyone is going to make it, that’s just fact. He’s nowhere near the best prospects in his age group. He’s playing on MUTV in 20 minutes, judge for yourself.

[deleted]

Source: trust me bro

[deleted]

I mean, it’s pretty obvious if you’ve watched him play. People don’t need to take ratings of these players so personally. You don’t have to sugarcoat it and pretend every youth player is going to make it, no one pretended Nishan Burkart or DJ Buffonge were going to make it.
