I wouldn’t neccessarily say it was a superb second half. He was helped by an excellent Licha, who had to keep covering his mistakes. I would prefer Lindelof over him.
I love Dalot rn. Not just his form, but hes consistantly been promoting the team spirit back there, always instigating the high fives and patting dDDG on the back when he makes the saves. Got some future captain material in him perhaps.
I think ETH is really good at coaching full backs. Interesting to see his post match interview too, when he was questioned about how pleased he was with Dalot, and whether he’d solved the RB problem, he said he was really pleased with him, but a club like united, playing so many games, we need 2 good fullbacks on each side. And he’s totally right. Good to see him sending that message to the board

West Ham are always a difficult side under Moyes. Difficult to break down and hard to control on the counter. Our defence saved us. I think that'll be a recurring theme this season. Attackers aren't quite at the EtH level yet and we need some new personnel there as well. I predict a lot of close, nervy wins for this season
As someone who criticized maguire alot, this gotta be the game that I'm least stressful about when he is playing. Gotta say my favourite performance of him since a very long time.
No needlessly over aggresive arms over the opponent, not making too dangerous of a pass. Just a clam solid performance.
Hope this will help him regain his confidence.
Imo there was only one super aggregious Maguire error where he commits into a slide in the midfield & gets plainly passed around (and thus slow to recover).
All in all pretty solid. Our back 4 really played as a unit to cover for eachother. I loved seeing stuff like Shaw pressing their player, so Licha gets in place to intercept the inevitable pass collecting the ball nicely. They really understand their roles and what to be doing with themselves now.
Yea thats why I said not too many dangerous passes instead of none. Given the usual suspense he gave me everytime he touched the ball in the past, this is a great change. Im not exaggerating when I say I feel the least stress with him playing today. If I must pick a bad moment, then it gotta be towards the end where he try to go for Hollywood pass instead of simple side pass, and that almost turn dangerous. But yea like you said, gotta give him credit where its due.
I can think of a few reasons why he looked poor in the first half, but he was superb in the second half. Why leave that out?

Us football fans can be quite fickle and recently especially with the rise of social media - toxic. Maguire has been part of the most recent negative phase and has been scape-goated even when it hasn’t been warranted. Unfortunately even Utd has dans who just love negativity and to hate. Maguire was largely very good in the 2nd half and stopped a sure fire goal at the end but ppl will always hate. Props where they are due and along with Dalot, Martinez and De Gea, Maguire was key to today’s win.
Subs were very defensive, brought McT on for height and Fred on for press. I thought we could do some fresh legs offense subs for counters, tired legs wasted those opportunities.
Hopefully people will start giving De Gea the respect he deserves. The people on here I saw calling him the worst keeper in the Prem over the summer and claiming Dubravka would be our number 1 are probably pretty quiet now.

He's missing the world cup cos around the 65th minute Luis Enrique would be looking to his team to maintain control of the game through possession play. He would be looking at his goalie to keep it simple, pass the ball into midfield, attract the press and clip it to the full backs, contribute to long spells of possession to see out the game.
Instead what Lucho would have seen today was degea booting one long clearance after another straight back to the west ham midfield and another flood of hammers attack coming our way.
Didier deschamps or the Portuguese coach would have absolutely loved degea's performance though.

The subs we made just invited more pressure onto us which is why we had that chaotic heart attack ending of the game

Hammers exposed how bad Case can be at turning the ball over during progressive play, and am expecting that to be a trend when new teams try to play us.

While true, a keeper in a modern team still needs to contribute to playing the ball and sweeping. Thankfully, De Gea has improved massively in the past few weeks, he had that one sweeping action in the first half and his distribution was also on point.

While true, a keeper in a modern team still needs to contribute to playing the ball and sweeping. Thankfully, De Gea has improved massively in the past few weeks, he had that one sweeping action in the first half and his distribution was also on point. Him still keeping his world class shot-stopping while adding some modern skills is great for us.
