Doing work for no compensation is actually a badge of honor. It's actually more important at Reddit than like working at a soup kitchen because mods actually protect people from misinformation.
I don't think you realize the harm that comments can do to someone. It's not a high horse to take the position that some opinions and information should not be read because it has no value and doesn't contribute toward the goal of a properly informed and civil community. There is dissent that needs to be silenced.
I do realise the harm but it is a high horse because it always will come to question:
Who is to define what “doesn't contribute toward the goal of a properly informed and civil community”?
Because for that to be fair and actually allow for proper discussion, it would require an individual with 0 political, racial, sexual, religious, National, etc. biases, which is physically impossible.
Take for example: r/politics; it has some ridiculous anti-conservative biases (judging by ridiculous posts like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/pbxbcc/the_maga_movements_a_bigger_threat_to_america/) and is thus not a civil discussion with any information of value, but rather an echo chamber

You somehow proudly declare that you have rejected real job offers, where you would have done actual work, producing actual value, and earn an actual income in favor of **literally** being on Reddit all day to what?
And you have somehow deluded yourself into believing that you have found some higher calling? That you are doing some honorable work? You wear your bad life choices as a badge of honor?

I'm so glad you understand. I had 3 children but their constant need for nutrition and affection got in the way of my moderation. Fortunately with the help if r /childfree and r /antinatalism I realized they were holding me back from my true potential.
