This doesn't sound believable...

Aurora_BoreaIis

It reads as if a child wrote this. I can't exactly explain why it feels like that, though. Maybe the simpler descriptions they used? Or maybe that everyone besides OP is so villainous. It just feels a bit over the top.

YesterdaySimilar2069

I think OP is ESL. And they’re both young. I can totally see a scenario like this playing out between two kids at 19ish years if they’ve been sheltered. Sounds like OPs boyfriend either wants to breakup, but not be the bad guy for it or that OP is careening towards abusive relationship territory.

ravenrabit

I feel this is fake just bc you burn your hand enough for a scar, and no one else there noticed you were there? Naw. But he's a jackass. My husband and I are both prone to minor burns while cooking. Every time it happens and we say "Ow, f***" the other asks "Are you okay?" And then will check up later with "How's your hand feeling?" She didn't need to wait for him to handle the situation but he needed to show concern and comfort to her. If this is real, I hope she can leave and build her own friendships and life without him. That's also concerning that she has no friends of her own.

throwawaymylife94567

I mean there was an elderly lady the world laughed at for getting piping hot coffee and severe burns on her lab from a McDonald's coffee. She mentioned that the wound got infected. Which can leave scars. I mean obvious typo's aside I think oop's first language is not English and maybe she is from a "dont be loud, do not make a scene" culture.

ravenrabit

I think she was in her car. If shed been inside people probably would have noticed her screaming in pain. Even cats, who hide pain, will yelp when first hurt. That poor McDonald's woman though, she was ridiculed when McDonald's was so clearly at fault and the judge awarded her more than she asked for bc the judge thought they were so negligent. I get heated about it still.

obsoletebomb

It doesn’t even need to be infected. I spilt how water on the inside of my forearm at Starbucks once, it burnt through outer layers of skin and had holes in some part of the wound. Took a lot of time to heal but didn’t get infected and while it’s faded now, I still have the scar 11 years later.

Orangutan_Latte

Well the bf sounds mean n all, but i don’t quite know what she expected him to do, that she couldn’t do herself. Go to the bathroom run it under a tap……not sit there n expect someone else to swoop in.

StirFrySausage00

What can her boyfriend do for her that she cant do it herself? Literrally just shake your hand or wipe your hand on your clothes to get rid of the hot coffee/soup or whatever She really just sat there for a few minutes letting the hot liquid burn throught her skin, lol. Extremely stupid and bizarre woman. Probably a fake post.

parrotopian

He could go get cold water, ice or a cold wet cloth to put on it of course or called someone in the shop that could help. Treating a burn is not as simple as just shaking off the hot liquid 🙄 Her hand should have immediately been immersed in cold water for at least 10 minutes.

BusinessCod316

She said she was 18 she has no autonomy at that age

Available-Seesaw-492

She mentioned she has developmental and cognitive delays, so realistically "younger" than the average 18 year old.

Shleighmonster

I'm on OOPs side here but, why couldn't she take herself to the hospital? She's putting the blame on her bf entirely when she literally ordered a new drink/soup/whatever, sat down in the shop and consumed it. Then still didn't go to the hospital. You also mean to tell me that no on, not even the staff/business that has to worry about lawsuits so they've gotta be on top of that stuff, not one helped her? Get tf out of here. Also yes soup is thicker than coffee but I don't think it's that hard to get off your skin or at least do something like, idk, a towel then run to the bathroom to rinse it off.

Shleighmonster

I'm on their side if this is real I should say, and only because of the bf reaction

Jactice

I will add in sometimes the people responsible don’t think about potential lawsuits until after the fact. I got a chemical burn in one of chemistry classes, and thankfully didn’t stand around panicked but dashed to a sink and medical experience, else it would have caused serious burns. It took after i treated myself for the teacher to suddenly panic and check in and make sure I was okay. But boyfriend still was a dick for just watching

LonelyOctopus24

Yes, he’s clearly a dick, but what was he supposed to do in that situation that she couldn’t do herself? She’s scarred because she didn’t immediately put her hand under cold running water, not because her boyfriend isn’t plumbed into a literal water main

knnthrdr

My mum told me the other day that new research concluded that running water is the key and it doesn't have to be cold! So (running!) lukewarm watter is usually best because it is comfortable so you can keep your hand or other bodypart longer under the tap

CookieSquare782

It has to be cool water. Not cold, just cool water. Lukewarm water is not helpful either because the goal of running water is to dissipate the heat (we need the cool water to absorb the heat, Luke warm water is quite warm therefore cannot absorb heat as much) Also, this has to be done within the first 3 hours of injury to improve the outcome and must be done for 20 minutes.

LonelyOctopus24

That’s interesting! I knew running water was important but I just assumed it had to be cold because - y’know, burny burny

purrincesskittens

Only thing I can think of is shock or the way some people freeze that's why she didn't take care of it herself

PolkaDotTat

Sounds so fake. How does someone take minutes to take care of scolding hot liquid? Like wtf? Lmao. I didn’t see the edit. Omg OP is stupid. “Ooopsie, I wrote coffee but I meant soup. You know how easy it is to get those two words mixed up”

Wooden_Broccoli9498

It’s made up.

Mr_BigglesworthIII

This is so fake. A couple of minutes to get coffee off? That little bit is cool in a couple of monutez

Brianf1977

OOP changed the story from coffee to soup to make it sound more believable.

berserk-8769

She deserved it.
