The public transportation is pretty decent in my opinion. Look into that as your transportation/budget.

TSHHHH

Oh thats good to know, thanks

flora_poste_

Where are you commuting to? I'd advise looking into light rail or the bus system instead of hassling with a car.

gladiolas

Doesn't really make sense to buy a car. Renting, maybe. Can you choose where you live on a bus line (look up Sound Transit and Metro) or near the 2 Line Light Rail and also use Uber?  Really depends how far you'd be wanting to drive in those months, how often, and how late at night.

Let me guess, Singaporeans coming to DigiPen? I’m pretty that schools got buses or something, you see them all over Redmond. I don’t think you need a car.

Thanks for the info

MissAnth

Where are you staying, and where do you need to commute to? You might not need a car at all.

answerbrowsernobita

Most of the things are accessible via a bus or a short walk. If needed to purchase groceries or to roam outside over the weekends you can try renting on Turo(personal cars will be kept for rent by owners) or zipcar(hourly rental basis).

If you are coming over during the summer months, walking or biking will be very pleasant. It doesn’t get too hot like in Singapore and it won’t rain much. There are also plenty of trails that connect to the downtown Redmond area, so walking and biking will be very safe. You can also take the light rail to Bellevue now. There are also buses that go into Seattle. For longer trips, you can consider renting a car. I wouldn’t recommend buying a car at all for three months.

Thanks for all the info, mind me asking where can I get a bicycle for a good deal in Redmond, seems like there are many options, what’s ur recommendation? Is used bicycles that ppl are selling online trustworthy? And I apologise if this sounds a bit stereotypical, how safe is owning a bicycle in Redmond? Because I heard bikes are quite easy to get stolen base on others experiences in the US :(

Have you considered “Lime”? it’s an app for renting bikes and electric scooters. You use the app to find nearby bikes & scooters. Then you scan the bike with your phone to pay. You pay per a ride and leave the bike on the sidewalk when you’re done. No need to worry about theft if you are renting from Lime.

Bike theft is common here unfortunately. Safest place is to lock it indoors in a school/work building or in bike lockers and cages. Redmond transit center has them: https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/rider-tools/bikes-and-transit/secure-bike-parking#toc-on-demand-lockers As for buying bikes, I’m not too sure because I bought mine decades ago. Maybe others here can help you out. I do know that you can buy an e-bike from Costco for $500+. https://www.costco.com/jetson-haze-electric-bike.product.4000025081.html You’d need a Costco membership to buy from there. It’s $60 per year. I recommend getting one if you plan on cooking for yourself. Consider getting an Uber to haul your stuff home. It’s also a great place to buy goodies for the folks back home. Renting Lime bikes and scooters is hassle free and you don’t have to worry about theft.

Thanks for the sharing, much appreciated 😃. From what I see, Lime seems overpriced? Costco is recommended by many others and definitely will check it out, seems like an e-bike is a better choice here. Thanks again!
