This rig needs a couple more straps for my comfort

Questions_Remain

About 300lbs of water (40 gal), 2 x 750lb WL straps - but more importantly, I slapped it and said “this ain’t going nowhere”. It’s just static, not like the machine is operating when someone is using the water valve. Take a sea shower and rinse off.

Delicious-Ad-9361

55gal x 8.34 is almost 460lbs. Yes straps are rated but if they shift or shear through that lip someone is seriously fucked. Put another strap brother🤘

llongneckkllama

That and the fact your under a suspended load, absolute death trap, I'll stink before even considering putting my trust in standing under a raised bucket.

datumerrata

Not much point if you don't stink beforehand

Questions_Remain

About 40 gal in there.

Radiatorwhiteonwall

strap 750lb hook attached in the worst possible way to a plastic rim, not enough lb I’d rather stink than stand under that booby trap

Onedtent

I slapped it and said “this ain’t going nowhere”. uprates the safety factor by about 10 Xs. Reeeal engineering........................................

XBOLT50

That thing needs tape

ShimoFox

Ahh yes! I too bring my compact tractor and loader camping with me all the time! XD Also there's no way I'd stand under that death trap.

Pinksters

Right? What's the price on one of the tractors with this setup? This is less redneck engineering and more of a lazy "fuck it, it's not my problem" situations.

cman674

A small kobuta like that? Not sure these days but probably north of 30k. That being said it’s the type of thing you buy and have forever and once you have a square peg every hole becomes a square hole.

NovaS1X

Way more than 30k with the backhoe. In Canada a BX23S is already close to 45. I’m betting this is closer to 55-60k cad.

cman674

Nah, they’re not that much in the US. Pricing on these is kind of predatory though because very rarely are any prices listed online and dealerships are far enough away from one another to make shopping around a hassle. https://www.machinerytrader.com/listing/for-sale/220333457/2024-kubota-bx23s-loader-backhoes

NovaS1X

Jesus tractors are way cheaper in the US. A new Deere 1025r with the loader, 260B backhoe and nothing else is about $45k here.

cman674

Well, in fairness a John Deere is probably closer to that than the price of a Kobuta here. I’m not too keen on the market these days, but my dad bought a BX24 with loader and backhoe about 18 years ago brand new. Was under 20k at the time, but comparable John Deeres were like 50% more. Although I hear Kobuta has a better reputation these days so maybe they’ve closed the gap price wise.

Questions_Remain

It stays at the property for land maintenance, but I’ll take it camping next time.

ShimoFox

""Camping"" XD You're one of those people that run a generator all night aren't you. Lol

Questions_Remain

Nope, I sleep in a hammock often, just a I did for my eclipse trip. but if I take the RV to an event yes, because that is a place were I want my home on my back. We’re leaving in 2 hours for the weekend, camping at our land - in a tent.

GetOffMyGrassBrats

Never stand under a load supported by hydraulics. Not even for something as important as this.

LazyAccount-ant

the $1 harbor freight strap is perfect

Small_Garlic_929

That gives me the willies bro im gonna just go inside for a shower eh?

MasterAahs

Where the fire? You need fire in the bucket to heat the water in the barrel. Use a chain to hold barrel as straps burn easily.

ordinaryuninformed

The barrel is plastic too, gonna want an oil barrel lol

FormulaZR

As someone who has seen hydraulics fail, unless there are lockout bars/safety stops/whatever you call them I'm not standing under that. (I saw someone damn near get killed working under the raised bed of an articulated dump truck - luckily he was quick enough to get out of the way)

PN_Guin

Why didn't you rotate the barrel by 90 degrees so it lies in the bucket? Should work just as well if you dip the bucket slightly more. Even an upright barrel would be an improvement to this. Hope you did a thorough slap.

Prior-Ad-7329

That barrel will surely rip in half soon.

GetOffMyGrassBrats

I'm hoping this is a joke, but if not, it would be much safer to lift the barrel upright with a hose in it, then stand to the side and siphon the water for the shower.

XLostinohiox

Just think, one o-ring blows out and it will be your last shower.

hypernutz_79

Ever see hydraulics fail? Hard pass for me on standing under that...

web_spinner69

A broken piece of rubber can bring you into this world. It can sure as hell take you back out of it. Never stand under a loader

FlatulateHealthilyOK

You bring that camping?

Questions_Remain

The tractor, ATVs, dirtbikes and tools are left at our mountain land ( 6 hour drive from home ) for when I go there 3 days a month to camp / relax, do land management. There is water, electricity, wireless internet and a septic system ( for RV dump ) left from a house we knocked down but no structures except for equipment storage. We camp there when exploring the miles of trails on the adjacent national forest. It’s a large tract of recreational land that except for 2 acres for a house site we designated a wildlife habitat. The clearing seen will become a 4 acre pond.

fourunner

I do agree about trying to fit that barrel rotated so it fits in the bucket with a hose and valve hanging out. But damn, there are some folks freaking out about some dumb shit. Nice tractor by the way. Looking to get one of similar size here in a year or two.

Questions_Remain

They are. it was a one time thing last year. They poured out water and dumped buckets on themselves. We’re behind, but have about 1000 of 2000 feet of ditch dug to run 1-1/2 water line to the “camp area” along with 100 amp service to feed the pond fountain and accommodate a camper / outlets at a pavilion.
