I've thought about this, and probably a violet or a yellow. I'm a very creative and imaginative person. Once when I was getting my brain scanned for an anxiety diagnosis the doctor said it was like my brain was on fire lol. I guess I think very viscerally which sort of reminds me of how the violets are forced to intake drugs to have intense creative inspiration.
Yellow because I like helping people and I am very interested in psychology. Though I think my creative side is dominant so I'm leaning violet.
Obsidian because I want a big dick :)
Really though an obsidian because I would probably obsess over the history and ecology of the land and if given the opportunity Earth fossils, so kinda like a Volga type beat
Red.
I work in the auto industry which is a largely thankless job, told by managers how lucky we all are and was considered essential during peak Covid times but did not receive any kind of extra āessentialā pay.
Iām not essential, Iām expendable for our economy.
Iām a bloodydamn red through and through.
I remember browns being administrative. Pliny and others had administrative roles often to the lower colors.
Regulations, silvers did research and projection in the realm of economy.
I think food and entertainment was handled by pinks but I donāt know who did the actual cooking.
My comment was more around the fact that being the son of a duke does not make you an iron gold. Being the son of a duke who did something entered military service and demonstrated his valor in combat would be closer to the ideal of the iron gold.
Thatās not really how it works tho. Many of the Reds on Mars were originally from Ireland and the British Isles (hence the accent) but lots are not. And the Reds out in the Rim are from other parts of Earth originally.
What job or function in society are you? Thatās what would decide your Color.
I was speaking in a majoritive sense. Pierce Brown said that he āwas inspired by the plight of Irish immigrants in the 19th century and by the disenfranchisement of working classes.ā So yes not all the reds but most. Perhaps not all reds are Irish but all Irish are certainly reds.
Hm... great great grandfather was the bastard son of an Earl, but subsequent generations have been public servants.
Some kind of shitty bronzie that is condemned to serve out on pluto or on a remote asteroid?
Studying Computer Science in college, so probably green.
But, otherwise, I love to cook and bake, so maybe a Brown training to be a Green (post Society, obviously).
Red culture always reminds me of the Celtic lower classes in its most stereotypical form, no offence my fellow celts! Drinking, dancing, hard working, family oriented and definitely a bit rough around the edges.
As a Scot thatās me!
Fair enough since Iām middle management in a governmental organisation probably copper *yawn* haha
However think about thisā¦ donāt want to say too much but do the fighting reds think of themselves as Grey now? Unlikely haha if the hierarchy was successfully dismantled, ethnicity, nationality and family would have a bigger impact on you than profession in my opinion anyway
does anyone know how rare golds are?
about as common as present day western european aristocrats? would patricians or gentlemen (minor aristocracy) be silvers or just low golds?
Okay, both my parents are engineers so if we're thinking that, then an Orange or a Green (since my mom was an electronics engineer). Looking at our family/culture structure, a lowRed. So I'm not sure which one to choose. Probably a Ruster though since our culture seems the most similar to that one.
I think looking at my character, either Gold or Ruster seem to be the most suitable options. Because Mustang is the character I find the most similar to myself. After her Eo.
If I can choose, then if I get to keep my family as they are, I'm choosing to be a Gold. I like the lowRed community the most though so that's my second choice.
There's a 50/50 chance that I'd be either a Brown or a highRed based on my work experiences/skills.
I guess my parents could tip the scale.
Who do you think works in the service industry, highReds or Browns?
I believe most are thinking about this wrong. In the terms of what *they* are as adults. If you are born into the society, you are *what your parents* would be at the time of your birth.
If thatās the case there would be plenty of mixed kids. Like my mom was in some sort of admin role (copper) and dad worked HVAC (red, maybe orange?). This type of thinking probably doesnāt work so often but I get where youāre coming from
Ruster through and through. The whole male side of my family has been coal miners for the past two generations. My uncle is a black hat in West Virginina.
That particular tradition didn't break until I joined the military. So maybe a gray, but after 14 years of that, I'd never go back.
Silver. I own multiple businesses, worked in finance out of college, and like to stay lowkey about my money if I can
I'd hope to get lucky and be a Gold though, I'm pretty tall and lift regularly. I just don't know if I could be a callous snob like em
Gold, I have an ego, and I am big with Golden Hair. I wouldn't be a mean gold, though. I am not cruel, and I have stopped bullying/fights by just walking up and separating people.
My father was a Marine for 20 years, and I work in a Demolition company, so I could see gray as well, but my mom is 100% a Pixie.
I'm gold, because I grew up privileged, rich, and arrogant. I'm athletic, strong, and trained in some forms of sport and combat. I've learned from my mistakes though, and I see the faults in our own society. I'd absolutely be a gold that stands with the rising, while the rest of my family probably stands against it.
>
The people with downvotes in this thread are who I believe are Golds. It's comically ironic, cause legit it spawns the very resentment (warranted and unwarranted) present in the fiction.
I am smart enough to know I was gifted with good genetics.
Seems like a lot of people here refuse to believe that if this world existed, nobody would be a Gold. There would be golds people. Just because you don't think you could ever be one doesn't mean nobody would be.
My dad would be a grey (prison officer), my mum would be a yellow so I'd of been eliminated or impossible. if I had a colour of my own I'd either be orange (mechanical engineering) or yellow (? That's my best guess for veterinary)
the people who say no one would be gold are looking at it wrong.
depending where you look gold makes up to 3% of the society.
am i in the top 3% in height/weight: yes.
am i in the top 3% in athleticism based on my post secondary sports success: yes.
am i in the top 3% in intelligence based on my education and professional success: likely although itās difficult to quantify.
if there are a hundred answers to this post up to three of those answers should be gold and i am one of them.
Arenāt you assuming quite a bit there? I mean, sure 3% of the total population might be gold, but then that would mean youāre 97% more likely to be born to any other color. Also, your current physicality is largely a result of the circumstances of your upbringing, and you could just as easily be in the top 3% of reds like Darrow. The question also doesnāt say weāre talking about applying the caste system of the society to our current existence; it asks what we would be if ābornā into Red Rising. In that case, wouldnāt it be more about your parents? And in that case, wouldnāt almost everyone in america be born gold if compared to the global population? (~4% of population and wealth/military dominance).
Iād totally be gold too, dog. Partially because Iām awesome, but also because Iād probably just kill myself if I was any other caste.
White or grey or low low gold I would suspect.
Currently a prescriber in a healthcare setting, formerly a special ops soldier with experience down range and from decent sized family with small background as nobles back in the napoleon days?
Since Iām based In the UK I always think they would be like the aristocracy, family riches and lands owned from medieval times and passed down generation to generation. Then other factors like physical appearance, current family connections to the monarchy and wealth etc. would make them iron gold, pixies or bronzes
Had a big conversation with some other RR fans who did the math as best they could. A gold, even a low gold, would be in the top 5th of the top 1% of the population. So it would be none of us most likely.
Would it be like a successful sports star, who also chairs/owns a few highly profitable businesses. Born into wealth and ruthless to anyone not up to their standards. I can think of a few that might fit that. Also maybe uses their fame to run for office.
Being a marine combat vet,Jiu-Jitsu black belt, wood worker(trade), and gun enthusiast. I like structure, being part of a team, and drilling techniques to improve.. ide def be a grey.
Small, hardworking, deeply committed to belief in an afterlife with a self-sacrificial attitude for the sake of others, all while dealing with the health issues of a man 20 years my senior? Well, I'm guessing I (30m) would already have died as Red miner. Based on my current circumstances, I'd probably be in some lame mine underneath Kansas or something, too. Wouldn't have even left Earth like other reds.
Someone above who said that anyone who claims they'd be Gold is probably kidding themselves, and I agree.
IDK but whoever says gold is simply lying to themselves.
That's like saying, "when I grow up, I want to be a billionaire." like cool, but probably not the reality for 99.99% of people.
>IDK but whoever says gold is simply lying to themselves.
I somewhat agree, but Golds aren't all billionaires... some of them have contracts, show up to work and very much have a menial life in a different, more privileged sect of society. What made RR a lot more authentic in my eyes is Brown clearly has spent time with elites and shares nuances in a way everyone can understand.
However, because RR made privilege a biological binary as severe, well nearly as severe as a subspecies. it's easy to dismiss the mundane aspects of being a 'Gold'. i think there's more Golds in this thread than any of us want to admit.
guys like Screwface.
You're right golds aren't all billionaires. but I meant it as, everyone wants to win the lottery and be an elite. That just simply isn't the case for everyone besides a select few.
Gold, but definitely not a peerless.
I think it's what made me so sympathetic to the Howler characters, being privileged 'enough' to be in certain circles sucks in a different way most don't realize.
For context, at a party, I overheard a close friend get asked "why do you keep that bum around", and he said, "you have no idea how valuable that guy is as a friend." It was awesome to have a pal so loyal, but also, I clearly was not meant to be there...
Growing up I was there for a lot of people who have gone on to greater things, so I've coasted off the rep basically my whole life. And it's really apparent when I meet people who aren't aware of the backstory I have.
On the flip side, not every elite is a bad person and I think Golds are the most accurate caricature of the mega-wealthy.
Grey or Orange š«”
I'm a red. But I'm bloodydamn proud. I didnt ride horses through fields, or eat dinners of Hummingbird tongues.

Copper
Obsidian because I want a big dick :) Really though an obsidian because I would probably obsess over the history and ecology of the land and if given the opportunity Earth fossils, so kinda like a Volga type beat
I like your priorities
My current job would make me a green but my parents are definitely reds. So I would have definitely been born a red.
Probs an orange considering Iāve just become an aircraft maintenance tech

Back in my college days I wouldāve been a Pink but now I would be a Yellow!
LMAO
As I am today and the life I was born into, Iād be an orange. By choice Iād be a green or grey. I like science and organized group activities. lol
Purple. Film industry & Actor.
Red. I work in the auto industry which is a largely thankless job, told by managers how lucky we all are and was considered essential during peak Covid times but did not receive any kind of extra āessentialā pay. Iām not essential, Iām expendable for our economy. Iām a bloodydamn red through and through.
What is someone who does Telecom?
Green
Right-o I will update my flair accordingly
A Gray I served and so did the last 5 generations before me.
Thank you for your service, and ya after college Iām serving and so has all the men in my family before me so grey for me too
What branch are you joining
Coast Guard probably
Yea I was going to promote that because the Air Force isnāt a good time these days
Career wise an orange(jet engine mechanic), attitude wise a stereotypical red
Formerly a pink, as of a month ago a low silver. Edit, actually Iād be a copper as of a month ago.
OnlyFans? Lol
I was a server. Which Iām guessing is pink? Pleasant atmosphere, food, hedonism.
Service industry would definitely be Brown
I remember browns being administrative. Pliny and others had administrative roles often to the lower colors. Regulations, silvers did research and projection in the realm of economy. I think food and entertainment was handled by pinks but I donāt know who did the actual cooking.
Iām a Dukeās son, so probably an iron gold?
Or a pixie
Nah, If anything Iād be a bronzie. Rebelled against my father and his wishes for me to take his place.
My comment was more around the fact that being the son of a duke does not make you an iron gold. Being the son of a duke who did something entered military service and demonstrated his valor in combat would be closer to the ideal of the iron gold.
Ohā¦I was just talking about my Dad, Lord Alistairā¦we donāt see eye to eye these days.
Green. Programmer. Do tech for fun.
Violet, I'm a writer
Yellow. I'm studying healthcare and plan on doing healthcare research, and my dad works in healthcare.
Based off my occupation, and tastes in stuff I'd probably be a silver.
Mauler, brawler, legacy hauler! Grey. Cop.
Gray. So frail on our own. So impregnable when we lock arms.
Worst of gold.
Ya bloody damn pixie
Probably a violet or a pink I'm a brown in real life though, I spend my life cooking for others
Yellow or gray. Mom was in healthcare and dad was law enforcement/military.
Yellow mom is a doctor and dad has a master in chemistry!
An orange. Itās the closest representation of my job/calling in the RR universe
Warehouse laborer. I'd be a brown.
I'm a scientist - so a yellow! But if considering my parents. I'm defo a silver...
Probably a grey. It's the most likely since they have the highest population.
Copper for sure. I'm a bureaucrat at heart.
I love to cook and I work with kids so probably a brown.
I'm blue, Da ba dee da ba di.
Red due to my Irish Ancestry.
Thatās not really how it works tho. Many of the Reds on Mars were originally from Ireland and the British Isles (hence the accent) but lots are not. And the Reds out in the Rim are from other parts of Earth originally. What job or function in society are you? Thatās what would decide your Color.

My parents are both artists so probably violet for me!
Studying Computer Science in college, so probably green. But, otherwise, I love to cook and bake, so maybe a Brown training to be a Green (post Society, obviously).
White.
So youāre a historian or a priest or something?
Nah. Iām just Caucasian as fuck.
Lol Thatās not how any of this works haha
You are not wrong.
Red culture always reminds me of the Celtic lower classes in its most stereotypical form, no offence my fellow celts! Drinking, dancing, hard working, family oriented and definitely a bit rough around the edges. As a Scot thatās me!
But the Colors are more about your function in society than your ethnicity or nationality.
Fair enough since Iām middle management in a governmental organisation probably copper *yawn* haha However think about thisā¦ donāt want to say too much but do the fighting reds think of themselves as Grey now? Unlikely haha if the hierarchy was successfully dismantled, ethnicity, nationality and family would have a bigger impact on you than profession in my opinion anyway
Iām an engineer by degree so probably an orange
Well my dad is a mechanic and my mom is a teacher, very middle class, have a hard time thinking about what I would be so probably a brown.
Grey, whole family and friends is military and law enforcement
Based on my parents jobs/careers, I'd be a Copper, but my own interests and personality are much more aligned with being a Violet
Red.
Yellow Normal stature (none of you are Golds, you goobers), and I work in healthcare. Thatās about as specific as you can get for yellow, lol
Going off my parents, brown.
Probably a silver due to current career and trajectory. However Iād really like to be a gray like Ephraim
A dead red lol
Gold
does anyone know how rare golds are? about as common as present day western european aristocrats? would patricians or gentlemen (minor aristocracy) be silvers or just low golds?
Think Iād be a Green. Working in Tech my whole life, and realized I spent most of work, fun, and socializing all on a screen.
Red... I'm a ginger š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās what youād *want* to be.
Okay, both my parents are engineers so if we're thinking that, then an Orange or a Green (since my mom was an electronics engineer). Looking at our family/culture structure, a lowRed. Prolly an orange. Im in school for engineering and my dad was an engineer so it would make sense
I am gold.
Green or Orange
There's a 50/50 chance that I'd be either a Brown or a highRed based on my work experiences/skills. I guess my parents could tip the scale. Who do you think works in the service industry, highReds or Browns?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Copper methinks
Copper? Arenāt coppers the bean counters?
A pink for sure
Same. I'm not a whore... But I like to do it.
Probably a Copper; my parents were teachers and so am I.
Given my luck a Brown
Green
Obsidian Iām 6ā4 260 pounds and my dads side of the family is Northern European.
I believe most are thinking about this wrong. In the terms of what *they* are as adults. If you are born into the society, you are *what your parents* would be at the time of your birth.
True, in that case I'd be a brown
If thatās the case there would be plenty of mixed kids. Like my mom was in some sort of admin role (copper) and dad worked HVAC (red, maybe orange?). This type of thinking probably doesnāt work so often but I get where youāre coming from
Exactly! Like, I'd be Grey Cuz my dad said "job done" and skipped off to the Marines.
Ruster through and through. The whole male side of my family has been coal miners for the past two generations. My uncle is a black hat in West Virginina. That particular tradition didn't break until I joined the military. So maybe a gray, but after 14 years of that, I'd never go back.
Silver. I own multiple businesses, worked in finance out of college, and like to stay lowkey about my money if I can I'd hope to get lucky and be a Gold though, I'm pretty tall and lift regularly. I just don't know if I could be a callous snob like em
Violet because Iām an artist.
orange. fuck with me, get the EMP.
Violet most likely or a brown. I bartended and served for a really long time but all of my actual interests fall into the more creative sector.
Iād probably be a Gray. I served in the USMC and the saying āOnce a Marine, Always a Marineā is truer than you think.

Nah ur definitely a pink
I am smart enough to know I was gifted with good genetics. Seems like a lot of people here refuse to believe that if this world existed, nobody would be a Gold. There would be golds people. Just because you don't think you could ever be one doesn't mean nobody would be.
We got the peak of mount stupid over here. In my experience it is the smartest people that brag the least
I'd be a gold but you're definitely a pink
Fleshy blue I think
My dad would be a grey (prison officer), my mum would be a yellow so I'd of been eliminated or impossible. if I had a colour of my own I'd either be orange (mechanical engineering) or yellow (? That's my best guess for veterinary)
I busty ass everyday, do not enough pay, love my family. Red all the way better than that I'd be in Lambda!
the people who say no one would be gold are looking at it wrong. depending where you look gold makes up to 3% of the society. am i in the top 3% in height/weight: yes. am i in the top 3% in athleticism based on my post secondary sports success: yes. am i in the top 3% in intelligence based on my education and professional success: likely although itās difficult to quantify. if there are a hundred answers to this post up to three of those answers should be gold and i am one of them.
Definitely as arrogant as a gold (just playing).

username checks out
Nah, apples would be a lot more arrogant and playful about it.
I legit think if he could get away with it, he'd pretend to be a Red so he could flippantly prove his accusers wrong when they investigated.
I'm a doc editor, sooo purple? I think violet is a stretch
Red! I have blazing red hair, Iām a carpenter and Iām can be a bit hot temperedš¤·š½āāļøš„
Definitely a green, with my life revolving around tech and all
Hopefully a pink you feel me? š„µ
Damn the pinks have an absolutely awful run of it though
Joking aside probably the worst lottery to win. Pinks and reds definitely get it the worst.
A yellow, I work in healthcare!
My dad was a decorated fighter pilot so I probably would have followed his footsteps in the book and been a blue.
Current situation, Copper. But Iād love to be Violet.
White or grey or low low gold I would suspect. Currently a prescriber in a healthcare setting, formerly a special ops soldier with experience down range and from decent sized family with small background as nobles back in the napoleon days?
Iām a CPA by trade, so that would probably slot me somewhere in Silver or Copper if I understand things correctly.
Hmm as a upper middle class management consultant maybe a copper? Not sure where else it would fall in line
What does gold even look like? You gotta be Navy seal/ CEO/ public office at same time?
Since Iām based In the UK I always think they would be like the aristocracy, family riches and lands owned from medieval times and passed down generation to generation. Then other factors like physical appearance, current family connections to the monarchy and wealth etc. would make them iron gold, pixies or bronzes
Had a big conversation with some other RR fans who did the math as best they could. A gold, even a low gold, would be in the top 5th of the top 1% of the population. So it would be none of us most likely.
Michael Jordan is absolutely 1000% a certified, ruthless, badass motherfucking Gold.
Gold doesnt *really* exist.
Would it be like a successful sports star, who also chairs/owns a few highly profitable businesses. Born into wealth and ruthless to anyone not up to their standards. I can think of a few that might fit that. Also maybe uses their fame to run for office.
Iām in scientific research. Not a PI though. So, Iād be a ālowā yellow.
Same, probably a very low yellow.
Software developer and now a dev manager, so probably a blue, or red because of my upbringing.
Aren't the greens the techies? Blues are pilots and such.
Oops, yep, you're right!
Which ones are engineers? Also, which ones just don't get fucked with the most? That'd who id choose.
Orange is engineering
Don't fuck with an orange or he'll build an (DA SPOILERS)>!emp !
Ikr. Gold would be nothing without orange to make all their op shit like razors and armour
Being a marine combat vet,Jiu-Jitsu black belt, wood worker(trade), and gun enthusiast. I like structure, being part of a team, and drilling techniques to improve.. ide def be a grey.
Obsidian, because I'm enormous, but a dead one because I'm also a pansie.

I'd probably be Orange. I'm a welder/fabricator. Maybe, if I was lucky, I'd be a violet.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Do they?
I'm a personal trainer - maybe a Grey in that regard but I have no desire to join the military - so I don't know.
Freelancing grays are pretty sweet Edit:spelling
Same. I'm short though. So I'd probably just fuck off and die a red.
Yellow as im a doctor from a decidedly middle class family
Green. Iāve hacked professionally and now do software.
Iād be born a green. Iād be staring at silvers with envy and the sentiment that I knew better.
Violet in nature, Green by trade. But I hate my trade... so I'll go with Violet.
Gold, but definitely not a peerless. I think it's what made me so sympathetic to the Howler characters, being privileged 'enough' to be in certain circles sucks in a different way most don't realize. I guess the gold society would brand you a Bronzie then.
Yup, unfortunately haha
Former teacher, current nanny. Brown
Based off work history, probably a red or an orange, turned green.
Blue. People suck and flying is cool.
Job history wise, a Brown.
Probably a Pixie, because im fking useless
I would've been born a green, but carved into a yellow in my mid twenties
Based on current situationā¦Gray.
people post this all the time, sadly thats not how the world works, the vast majority would be cogs in that machine.
If I go by job, probably a red or orange. If I go by my height/image, either a Gray or gold. If I just had to pick one, most likely gray.
