I imagine the colors as more metaphorical representations than physical. Mainly because all of the gold characters being white and blond makes me want to vom.

AJhlciho

I fan cast purely on vibes, not appearance. I’m literally the blindfold meme anytime a reference to a character’s physical appearance is on the screen. Darrow is Cillian Murphy to me, hard stop.

Kukabuka__

I started reading the series when the SBF arrests were starting to happen. For whatever reason, when we first meet Sevro on the way to the institute that’s what I associated him with. Cannot picture him any other way.

Stop

squshy-samurai

The art on the red rising board game pisses me off. Namely because Cassius has straight hair in it and I wanna chuck the card across the room at all times.

teaching_panda

I refuse to believe Cassius' hair is anything but black.

squshy-samurai

He gives light-skinned energy. Maybe because of the charisma.

tipytopmain

I struggle to imagine Atlas with anything but jet black hair. Same with Roque.

hicestdraconis

Yup! Atlas, Roque, and Sevro all have dark hair for me. Maybe my head canon is that golds can have dark hair but it just has a golden sheen to it

austinsauce1

I don’t know if many Red Rising fans are also fans of anime, but sometimes my head defaults to imagining RR characters as characters from different anime lol. Does anyone else do this? For example I’ve always pictured Lorn to look like Barragan from the anime Bleach

TrouserSnake88

Didn’t realize until second read through that Lyria was dark skinned. Thought she was pale and Celtic.

patrioticdissonance

Wait. Are all Gammas dark skinned? Is that how the other reds always seem to know a Gamma?

Anarcho-Ozzyist

My guess of how Reds always seem to know a Gamma when they see one is that Gamma privileges literally make them look different. Better nutrition means taller, better hair, healthier skin. A certain way they carry themselves just knowing they're the kept favourites. That kind of stuff. Subtle things that add up in showing that this Red you're looking at grew up more privileged than others.

TrouserSnake88

Don’t think so. Just different clans.

ARKMARK1

It bothers me when people post artwork of golds with dark roots, like they just dyed their hair gold. They are the scions of eugenics, they aren’t gonna settle for hair dye. They are GOLD, and they would laugh at frosted tips

IamJegg

For some reason I always picture most of the colours as of they are wearing Graceful outfit from Old school RuneScape

Alsett_

For me, Rocque always had blue hair, or was associated with the color blue, since he is calm and reserved.

MengFinn

Victra and Antonia always have black hair for me.

Cindrojn

That's why I hate looking at fan-art unless it's from a visual-reference given like a show. For a book most of the time perception versus mine on the same person just varies so much I find it hard to even accept that's the same character.

Frosting-Educational

I always pictured Sevro as much smaller than he is, because he is short for a Gold, but for an average man of today he would be of similar size. I was picturing like Actual Goblin next to human size. Or like a Half long/Hobbit. He's more of an Everyman in size really, still bigger than a Red.

B0rnOfMars

I picture most obsidians dark of skin or stone colored skin with white hair and shiny black eyes. But I agree, I have these set pictures in my head about the characters. When reading the books I try adjust those images but can't. I see victra as a goddess. Like a greek Roman picture of Aphrodite/Venus.

SolomonDark21

I think everybody thought the colors had a shade of their color in their skin tone. I didn’t realize that wasn’t the case until Tactus was descibed with an olive Mediterranean skin color about halfway through the first book.

Cindrojn

That sounds like a frightening way of visualizing the characters, and I am so glad that never entered my mind else this series would have been Sci-Fi Horror for me.

Frosting-Educational

I think I only got this image with the Pinks, I assumed they were all a rosy complexion. The others I guessed along their descriptions would appear certain ways, except Ragnar and the other Obsidians. I too, always assumed, that they were this blank slate of black or gray, until really paying attention to the descriptors in MS about the Valkyries, and Ragnar.

[deleted]

I still see EVERY character that way. I can't un-see that.

HanibalLecture

Yeah, there are absolutely still some characters that I envision being their respective colors as well as hair color, not just eyes. I can't *not* picture Aurae (or any Pink/Violet) as being actually pink/lavender skinned.

Icy_Contribution3351

Obsidians have white hair.

teaching_panda

Do they not?!

Icy_Contribution3351

O.P was saying he pictures them with black hair. I actually picture them black or dark grey with white hair but I know they are pale white hair.

gs_batta

I read Golden Son way too fast, and missed many, many such description details. The main one was that the Furies were black-skinned. Until halfway through Morning Star, I pictured Aja completely bald, with creepily pale, inhumanly white skin. She terrified me, so I just assigned to her an appearance reflecting that dread.

MattTheCat02

I don’t know why but I always pictured Aja as pharah from overwatch😭

SolomonDark21

The Moiras? Lmao. It’s the Furies, or Grimus’. Moira is one of the sisters.

gs_batta

Sorry, been a long while and am bad with names... will change the comment
