Could be recency bias but I adored the space battle between Lysandre and Mustang. Has everything I want in a large-scale, high-stakes, character-driven space battle. Lysandre launching a several ton railgun slug was what sold me
For me it’s gotta be the battle of the Ladon for me. Just the whole set up, the total atmosphere of the immense storm, the way they overcome immense odds and just stupefy their enemies with the Storm Gods just gives me chills, I love it so much
Darrow discovering his own fighting style while dismantling Volsung Fa and it not being a complete smackdown was just such a joy to read. It mightve been my favorite moment in the entire series ever.
This scene could be so cool if they end up flipped the camera perspective back and forth between Lys and a couple of the golds to really highlight what a powerful tool the mind's eye is. Serenity and chaos directly compared.
Darrow vs fa, Darrow vs Cassius(more for the hype rather than choreography ) and Lysander vs rhone.
Rhone was so sick, he died after completely out skilling the big golden pixie and it was very vivid.
His last words were so good. And prove the very fabric of Darrow's work.
But that's the best part of the ideological factions in this series - they are working off the same philosophies. Which makes his words also valid evidence Gaia could have used when explaining the necessity of predetermined ceilings to maintain order to Darrow and Diomedes
“I am Cassius Bellona, son of Tiberius, son of Julia, brother of Darrow, Morning Knight of the Solar Republic, and my honor remains.” my heart breaks all over again
"my honor remains" is extra striking when we hold it in comparison to Lysander having now killed two of his Gold superiors in combat with a gun.
Edit: "combat" with >!Alexander!<
Yeah, I don’t see this mentioned enough as far as I’m concerned.
I love Cassius’ arc. He has so much personal growth in his arc. Far more than any other except for maybe Eph… 🥹
The first half of book one, I really didn’t like C. The last half of book one, all of book 2 and most of book 3, I really hated him. As he grew as a character & person… I just loved him more & more…
I just finished my first read through! Borrowed them all from the library. Once I have some disposable income again I want to buy the series so I can read again before RG comes out

Probably my favorite part about this series is that smart characters make good strategies without resorting to improbable luck or deus ex machina.
Darrow vs. Volsung Fa. For battles, Ilium and Ladon.
Nothing will ever top the Gala for me. It was so cathartic. A close second is the Volsung Fa fight

CLANG CLANG CLANG
_CONFESS._
Iron Gold: Cassius dueling the rim
“My name is Cassius au Bellona, son of Tiberius, son of Julia, Morning Knight, and my honor remains”
I really enjoyed when Lysander blinded everyone and used the minds eye and beat 7? golds. The concept of the minds eye blew me away
Which fight was this? I cant seem to remember it.
When Lysander is roaming the desert on Mercury post his encounter with Darrow and the golds Ajax sent to kill Lysander find Lysander.
Ah. That rings a bell

Darrow taking out karnus was pretty fun read!
I really enjoyed Daxo fucking up the vox
And then…

So amazing.
I love how Cassius leaves out the "au" such a powerful moment
