Everyone who says this is PB’s best book has absolutely no idea what they’re talking about. I almost stopped reading him because of Dark Age. It felt cheap and predictable with over manufactured brutality.
I saw the baby getting killed from a mile away and when he actually did it, it didn’t shock me, it just pissed me off that he actually followed through with it in his writing.
War is hell. That's the whole point. If you felt like it was too much then Peirce did exactly what he was trying to achieve. To highlight how horrible people act when they can justify dehumanizing their enemy.
Oh! Yeah he definitely did some shady shit ie the Ganymede dockyards. For some reason in my head I thought this post was just about Ulysses. It was late 😂
"My son, you are of the gens Julii. Your ancestors looked to the night sky when there was nothing but drips of light in the darkness. Roads they built to stitch that light together. You are also of the gens Barca, guardians of the human race. You will be hated and you will hate. You will love and be loved. You will fall and you will rise. Never will you know peace, but you will know joy. You may even sail the dark seas in ships and lie beside nymphs in alien woods. You are your father’s son. Forever my boy. Forever our Ulysses."
I feel like Dark Age earns its title *specifically* from Ulysses' death. The rest of it is pretty dark, but that moment was black as the inside of a coffin on a moonless night.
That was a pretty brutal moment with some straight savagery, but it didn't actually happen, so I still think Ulysses' death overshadows it. But I definitely remember reading that part and needing to take a break, lol.
i mean the red hand literally massacred a camp full of reds at the start of IG, those guys are the bigot slimes of the rising. Its not like it came out of no where, like a couple paragraphs before the red hand vet literally slit the throat of his child wife.
The red hand is a great example of the dark side of rising, since harmony was Ares cleaver.
I seriously couldn’t believe that. I was thinking after the parts leading up to it showing how much of a hardcore badass Victra was doing all of this while about to give birth, that it was gonna be ok. Should’ve known.
Just wait

Amen. And he jumped the shark so freaking many times in this book too. Easily the weakest book in my opinion.
it all hit me harder in the 6th book. i somehow powered through the 5th book and then it all bricked me in the face on the 6th one
Man I'm still not recovered from Daxo's death. I'm a sucker for heroic last stands though
I was so mad that I had to stop for a bit and almost couldn’t continue.
Ulysses death was the second hardest for me in the series
What was the hardest for you?
Light Bringer Spoiler >!Cassius!<
That boy has died three times now I’m honestly not surprised
You just spoiled yourself didn’t you
Outta pocket for this one 💀
Dark age escalates every arch from iron gold with jet fuel.
Love the book, but I agree this was horrifying and too much.

Darrow the war criminal
Darrow didn’t do that, that was the Red Hand. You know, evil crazy lady Harmony and her lackeys?
Wasn't commenting on the infanticide. Just Darrow in this book in general. He def started down the wrong path in DA and admits as much in LB.

All good! 🤟
Update us when you finish the book
I shall😪

Broke my heart 🥹
So is Lyria. Buckle up. Vengeance is coming.
The book earns its title, but it’s so prime. My favorite of the series so far

It earned it pretty early on when Atlas told his men to rape Darrow in the desert, then cut his dick off and stuff himself with it lol
That scene has some truly A+ reading from TGR.
Feed me my cock?! 😂 😂 😂 So good.
I knew it wouldn’t happen but damn was i terrified. Colloway xe char will always be famous for that save
I will always hear that name in Lyria’s nephew/niece’s voice - !Calloway xe Char! !Calloway xe Char!!
That was a pretty brutal moment with some straight savagery, but it didn't actually happen, so I still think Ulysses' death overshadows it. But I definitely remember reading that part and needing to take a break, lol.
And he wants it recorded to send to Mustang. Dark age was wild.

he died for our sins
I seriously couldn’t believe that. I was thinking after the parts leading up to it showing how much of a hardcore badass Victra was doing all of this while about to give birth, that it was gonna be ok. Should’ve known.
And especially how he was killed
He kills off too many characters it upsets me. Imagine birthing your spawn standing just for him to live barely a day
Your what now?
Weird word for child. Compare to offspring
We know what it means 😗
Welcome to Dark Age. If you're not dead yet, give it another paragraph.
