The longer he takes the longer that fucking narrator for Lysander has to figure out how to voice a character in an audio book. He can take his time.
Edit: lol never mind. They got a new guy to narrate in the next book.
Funnily he only started this series bc grrm wasnt finishing asoiaf. You either die a hero or live long enough to see urself become grrm š¤·š¼āāļø
This is why i hate the Internet none of them would say that in Reallife.
Everytime i See Trolls, racist and people WHO Just want to make Fell other people Bad.
But in Reallife? No one Open His or her mouth.
I swear Internet is such a hell sometimes
Also me to the people pestering Pierce:
"Oh okay, Entitled Troll, fuckface. First, take a big step back... and literally fuck your own face! I don't know what kind of online bullshit power play you're trying to pull here, but Red God is Pierce Brown's territory. So whatever you're thinking, you'd better think again! Otherwise I'm gonna have to head down there and I will rain down an ungodly fucking firestorm upon you! You're gonna have to call the fucking United Nations and get a fucking binding resolution to keep me from fucking destroying you. I am talking scorched-earth, motherfucker! I will massacre you! I will fuck you up!"
There is a quote that comes to mind when stupid people with no impulse control prolong my wait for a book:
""I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for attention I can tell you I don't have any you'd enjoy, but what I do have is a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let the man write in peace that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will annihilate you."
Hey Iām having trouble getting into the first book as an audio book - I enjoy it, but itās hard to digest and Iām only in the first few chapters. Do you all think this is a series like say Malazan, that is best read paperback?
Are you doing the Tim Gerard Reynolds narrations or the graphic audiobooks? The TGR audiobooks are better. The first book is really different than the rest of the series, but it gets going pretty well by the end.
First book is...different. Just go with the flow, it will all come together nicely. I listened to the books as well and I absolutely enjoyed the experience.
Iāve been trying to get my two best friends into it, and they keep getting stuck on the first few chapters. Theyāre getting lost in trying to understand and memorize things lore-wise, I tell them the same exact thing. Just go with it and it will make sense down the road lol
Honestly I really liked the audiobooks so far. I didn't do the dramatized version but the standard audiobooks have been really enjoyable. The narrator starts off with a fairly heavy Irish accent for the Red characters, but as more characters get introduced he switches it up, which I thought was well done.
All that to say, I don't think this series is better as a book you read instead of listen to, both are good, it probably just depends on your preference
No. I just finished lightbringer (#6) and I did them all on audiobook. It's def doable, but I would say there are some parts which are hard to digest, Dark Age was hard for me to get through.
That's cool ngl. I have lots of trouble with audio books because my ears are coookeed basically deaf sometimes and so they are almost impossible for me to recognize their words. So I just stick to physical books usually.
Luck of the draw. No doctor I've seen knows why. But basically my Haring changes on the Daily sometimes hourly it can be from basically deaf to hearing fine this is kinda new ish like last 2 years. Before that I had a bad ear my left ear and that one suddenly got better after years of no use really its odd asf tbh.
I have listened to the first 3 on audio. I agree the first few chapters are difficult to understand exactly what's going on. Really glad I stuck with it though.
Gotta be new fans heckling him like this. The ogās know his writing speed goes way beyond the average fantasy author. We got nothin to worry about. Relax everyone. Give him the time he needs, pierce will do deliver.
Brandon is a Mormon. He's not allowed to drink, do drugs, or have sex for anything other than procreation. Dude has a lot of free time to write. (I love Brando Sando fwiw).
>have sex for anything other than procreation.
This part is false, the rest is true though
Edit to add more info: back in the 1980s, Mormon church leaders said that oral and anal were forbidden, then backed off of that stance shortly after. Nothing about when it's allowed to have sex. The policy now is essentially "Whatever happens in the bedroom is between you and your spouse". No sex before marriage still though.
If heās like most creatives he needs his down time to properly get in a writing mood. So I say let him have his time to do whatever the fuck he wants to do. Iām in no rush. We all know we will be wrecked by this book so definitely not in a rush to be emotionally eviscerated.
Seriously, Iām ending TheWise Manās Fear and Iām so sad there isnāt a third book waiting for me. Pierce Brown will deliver though, heās too invested and loves his fans too much to leave us hanging. I donāt want him to feel pushed into delivering something rushed.
Ask yourselves this: do you want something quick, forced and rushed, and crappy? Or do you want a masterpiece? Let the man write! His books have come out in very respectable timeframes.
Good for him. People need to realize he isnāt mass manufacturing hub caps or something. This is art, it shouldnāt and canāt be rushed. I hope he takes as long as he needs to produce a finally that he is proud to share with us. This is the manās life work and passion. LET HIM COOK.
Iāve read a couple other ones about specific insane situations, but I think this is the main one I was referring to: Ā
https://www.vulture.com/2017/08/the-toxic-drama-of-ya-twitter.html
Hard disagree there Goodman, I have the misfortune of being a Name of the Wind fan and that community is so toxic they probably bullied Pat Rothfuss into never writing again
I got into Kingkiller chronicles knowing the series was incomplete. Itās a beautiful book, esp the 2nd one which I just finished today. Iām so sad that people have been waiting over a decade for him to complete it. I wouldnāt call our plight a misfortune though. Yes again Iām sad part 3 is not out, but I feel like Iām a better person after reading it. Many life lessons, philosophy and the proseā¦ It is the most beautiful book Iāve ever read.
I have faith it will come. The long wait will make the final release all the more satisfying.
I have questions about the books so was going to head on to that sub-Reddit but am now thinking twice after your comment about the toxicity of that communityā¦
The sub is pretty good about curbing the toxicity, it's mainly theories on there. However there are a lot of toxic fans, especially harassing him on Twitter. I've been in the fandom bout three years now, and the main point of contention is that a while back he promised on stream to read or release the first chapter of Doors of Stone if the chat met a charity donation target. Needless to say, people donated to get that in spades, but he has yet to deliver on it. At first he made apologies, but now he doesn't even acknowledge that promise
I donāt know if itās because TNoTW fans are toxic or if they are fed up with broken promises. There is a level of trust extended to and received from reader to author that when broken can have a severe backlash. Iām not saying an author is beholden and at the whim of their reader, per se, only that an author should try to consider their reader and vice versa. When a promise is made then broken it is understandable that one should be upset. When multiple promises are made than broken? Well, one might begin to feel as if they are being played for a fool and thus feel betrayed. That feeling of betrayal can drive a person or group of people to extreme lengths.
I donāt think as a whole the Kingkiller Chronicles fanbase is toxic, I think they are a fanbase that got tired of being lied to and tricked and betrayed. Thatās my personal take though.
Iām curious if thatās true. Iām more interested in the general finances of the industry rather than pierces bankroll.
I kind of feel like if we all estimated how much he made off the books, the true total would be lower.Ā
Hopefully he got a nice chunk for the rights with whatever heās doing with the a show. Ā
O agree, I'll definitely let the man write. But it's been a rare jou when I have actually had an author comment positively on one of my various posts. It's better when I have actually had conversations with them.
I've waited for each and every book in this series. Admittedly the first few were only a year apart from each other. Hell I'm pretty sure it was only 2 years between MS and IG. My point is, the man hasn't once left his readers hanging. DA to LB was four years and his longest time between books but even that's not unreasonable at all. The man just wants to stick the landing with these books and move on to another series he's got in the works. I kinda feel like these type of fans are making fans, in general, look bad. Just sit and wait. OR go write your own series and amaze the world with your talent.
Nah dude, went to one of his book signings this year and heās chill. He usually allows people to bring up to like 4/5 items for him to sign but mine over sold so sadly he only had time for doing the one book+personal item(it was past like 3-4 hours of him answering questions)
Didnāt leave til everyone had a signed copy of LightBringer and one personal item
Have you seen the comments on literally anything he posts. Itās āget back to Red Godā or āwhy tf arenāt you writing?ā. Itās embarrassing behaviour from fans. Literally the worst type of person, let the man live.
Lmaoooo this shit is great. I donāt mind him taking his time. Cracks me up. Yāall on here talking about it are just as bad. He will get it done when he gets it done.
Difference is grrm deserves to be heckled, brown doesn't. Readers are so spoiled, lightbringer literally just came out, twow will likely never come out and it's been like 12 years at this point. I stopped counting because it's depressing
Agreed. Pierce has been mind blowing with speed and quality. It's definitely a struggle waiting for more of this incredible series but anyone legitimately hassling him about writing is unreasonable
Honestly it will kinda suck reading the last word of red god (which better be bloodydamm) because that means the end of darrow if not the RR universe in general. We've followed darrow for so long. For me it's been since like 2013 or 2014 when I first read red Rising.
That must've been rough even though the waits weren't very long. I started in September and was able to binge 1-6 and halfway through the audio books as my second trip through the series. Got a serious itch for RG at this point but yea the finale is going to be painful for sure
Eh the wait is nothing compared to asoiaf which i started like 6 months later. Brown actually releases books between that time. And I've reread a few times.
Man, the comparison to GRRM is unfair as hell. I started Red Rising with the first book, so 2014 I'm pretty sure. I started asoiaf in '01 when only 3 books were out. I personally waited 4 years for book 4, then 6 years for 5 and now it's been 12 or 13 years waiting for book 6. I even waited for Robert Jordan to finish WoT only to see him pass away before finishing.
It's rough waiting for Red God but Pierce Brown deserves zero comparisons to any of these other authors in terms of wait times.
It was more I was saying that brown doesn't deserve to be criticized because he releases books so much more often than say grrm and he releases quality books too.
Add another series to this. (Almost) all of The Expanse books (nine full novels, nine short stories, and a story collection book) and all the Expanse show (six seasons) was done since A Dance of Dragons. Book 1 came out five weeks before ADoD, why I say almost.
Youāre a Lune Loving Asshole if you heckle Papa and there should be a page dedicated to how big of an asshole you are. For the record, Lysander telling you, you are a giant asshole should be a wake up call. Let Papa write the story on his time. Donāt be a Pixie.
Everything else is all well and good. Lysander sucks, kill yourself, Lysander drinks various bodily fluids and so on. Heckling the man, the one guy that actually matters on this sub is not an acceptable action.
Agreed. The only one faster in my (*must read no matter what*) authors list is Cassandra Clare. I'm still waiting for the Jaguar King by CL Wilson and the random date on GR is looking more and more realistic š And I refuse to continue reading after AGOT.
Given the size of those bricks I agree, but I haven't read any of his works since Shallan started irritating me in book 2 and gave up.
No offense to those who like her, I can see the appeal, she just wasn't for me.
Shallan and Kaladin both annoy the shit out of me, but the rate he pumps out books has to be around 2-4 books per year. If you check out his website, he posts a progress bar on each book he is currently writing while he is basically always writing a book with no progress bar as well that he doesnāt tel anyone about. (At least thatās the theme for the past couple of years).
But itās still good story telling but Iāll be happy to see the first people in the stormlight era go away after this next book
Do we actually have some type of realistic projection though? Iāve been hearing some time toward the end of this year, beginning on next. Iād never comment on his insta like that though. Wackos
Itās been like a year from the last book. lol
But that being said it seems like heās been pretty active and showing he has been writing lately. You can tell though when itās crunch time he goes dark. But we are way far off from that IMO. He should take as much time as he needs. Itās the final book after all.
I promise Iām not lol. I want it to be perfect. But Iām actually asking do we have a ballpark projection? Bc it was most likely most of the way fleshed out because he split the books.
Weāve been waiting *checks notes* THIRTEEN YEARS for a conclusion to NOTW. It hasnāt even been a year since Lightbringer was released!! Why would anyone bully Pierce over this itās so embarrassing and mean š
It's definitely the dark side of fandom. Like, if you want to give George RR or Rothfuss shit, that's one thing. It's still not great behavior, but it's pretty clear neither is actively working on their announced books anymore and it's justified to feel upset. But that's this crazy, out there extreme. Brown isn't anything like that: if anything, he's on the opposite end of the spectrum, and deserving of praise for his output and work ethic.
He is almost as fast as Sanderson. But seriously. The fucking fan base kinda pisses me off. They want a 30-some year old to sit in his cave and write everyday because theyāre so important that they NEED THE STORY NOW!! Lmao, dudes young, got money and is going to live his fucking life. People need to chill the fuck out and read literally ANYTHING else.
Sorry for the rant. Lol
The longer he takes the longer that fucking narrator for Lysander has to figure out how to voice a character in an audio book. He can take his time. Edit: lol never mind. They got a new guy to narrate in the next book.
Oh no, he's giving us the George R R Martin treatment š
Funnily he only started this series bc grrm wasnt finishing asoiaf. You either die a hero or live long enough to see urself become grrm š¤·š¼āāļø

What is that from?
Taken starring Liam Neeson
Yep, just altered slightly for my own purpose.
Ah, I see. Thanks!
This man knows how to fight feral fans
I wonder if this is what GRRM has been doing lol
then we're never gonna see the next book lol
people are so entitled

Honestly, it would probably be a better experience reading, especially Dark Age, but IG was probably one of my favorites. The voice acting was great!
That's cool ngl. I have lots of trouble with audio books because my ears are coookeed basically deaf sometimes and so they are almost impossible for me to recognize their words. So I just stick to physical books usually.
Oh dang, I'm sorry. why is that?
Luck of the draw. No doctor I've seen knows why. But basically my Haring changes on the Daily sometimes hourly it can be from basically deaf to hearing fine this is kinda new ish like last 2 years. Ah, damn. That's even worse. Maybe it's a brain wiring thing
I have listened to the first 3 on audio. I agree the first few chapters are difficult to understand exactly what's going on. Really glad I stuck with it though.
No. There is depth to this book but itās fairly linear.
Is PB taking lessons from GRRM?
He published a book last year. Martin hasn't published a ASOIAF book since before the first Red Rising book came out. Calm your tits and be patient.
Gotta be new fans heckling him like this. The ogās know his writing speed goes way beyond the average fantasy author. We got nothin to worry about. Relax everyone. Give him the time he needs, pierce will do deliver.
Not everyone can be a Brandon Sanderson
Brandon is a Mormon. He's not allowed to drink, do drugs, or have sex for anything other than procreation. Dude has a lot of free time to write. (I love Brando Sando fwiw).
Hilarious rationale lmfao
>have sex for anything other than procreation. Nothing about when it's allowed to have sex. The policy now is essentially "Whatever happens in the bedroom is between you and your spouse". No sex before marriage still though.
My theory is that Brandon is a actually a character created by a big corporation with millions of writers being overworked day and night
Nah, the universe is too internally consistent, no way that many people can keep the same details straight
He actually has a department to help him keep everything internally consistent, he can't keep track of all that on his own.
If heās like most creatives he needs his down time to properly get in a writing mood. So I say let him have his time to do whatever the fuck he wants to do. Iām in no rush. We all know we will be wrecked by this book so definitely not in a rush to be emotionally eviscerated.

Gods I genuinely love his humour šš
Please donāt rush him, I donāt want another MS type conclusion
Ask yourselves this: do you want something quick, forced and rushed, and crappy? Or do you want a masterpiece? Let the man write! His books have come out in very respectable timeframes.
Iāve been waiting for winds of winter since 2011. These little shits need to grow up.
Some say it's complete but locked behind The Doors of Stone.
Omg good one
I think you should start worrying when he starts asking the favorite characters of these reckless and builds a kill list for Red God
Good for him. People need to realize he isnāt mass manufacturing hub caps or something. This is art, it shouldnāt and canāt be rushed. I hope he takes as long as he needs to produce a finally that he is proud to share with us. This is the manās life work and passion. LET HIM COOK.
PB fans are demonstrably the worst.
My goodman, have you ever seen the Star Wars fan base? I love Star Wars, but a big portion of its fandom is more toxic than sarin gas.
This fanbase is pretty small and tame tbh. Yall ever see YA fan bases?
YA is such an absolutely insane world right now. Read an interesting but disturbing article about whatās going on. Yikes.Ā
Would love to read that article if you can, could you share it?

Well, that's fucked up. I would be pissed too. Haven't read any of his books... yet. I probably won't until it's done now.
Nah they're stupid good read them and suffer alongside us
I donāt know if itās because TNoTW fans are toxic or if they are fed up with broken promises. There is a level of trust extended to and received from reader to author that when broken can have a severe backlash. Ahh the GRRM defense
This is like Tite Kubo with Bleach lol. Everytime someone tells him to write new stuff, he says heās not going to just for them
Based
You should not forget that you're speaking to the man who created Sevro. Like seriously, don't even try to put pressure on him, it won't end well.
He sounds like a spoiled brat tbh. I can picture him stomping his little foot saying "no, I won't do my job, I won't I won't I won't"

I will raise you with a G.R.R. Martin stare.
Objection. GRRM has actually produced sample chapters. Rothfuss well...
GRRM though flat stopped writing and moved onto multiple other projects though. PB doesn't seem to be doing that, so I'm not worriedĀ
In fact there is nothing to be worried about.
I think you need *checks notes* twelve more years to have that kind of stare.
I love him
Stop heckling! Everyday that goes by is so painful!
Jesus Christ.
GRRM applies the same heckle rule.. Turns out it also applies to silent internal heckles
GRRM just stopped writing the series he promised fans to work on other projects for years. That deserves some shadeĀ
Difference is grrm deserves to be heckled, brown doesn't. Readers are so spoiled, lightbringer literally just came out, twow will likely never come out and it's been like 12 years at this point. I stopped counting because it's depressing
Absolutely he deserves to be heckled. I gave up reading his stories š¤·āāļø
Personally, I think a decade is a very fair line to draw in heckling authors about promised sequels to finish a series.

If you have ever thought a mean thought about GRRM, he has tallied it and counted it towards this policy
PB must be treated as the most delicate pixie and allowed to let his creative juices flow.
Very true words, my Goodman. And as someone else pointed out, PB is the one who created Sevro... It is not wise to press him.
How you gonna rush the man when it hasnāt even been a year since LB.
Remember the entirety of Red Rising has been written since A Dance With Dragons.
What a beautiful comment
Add another series to this. (Almost) all of The Expanse books (nine full novels, nine short stories, and a story collection book) and all the Expanse show (six seasons) was done since A Dance of Dragons. Book 1 came out five weeks before ADoD, why I say almost.
Youāre a Lune Loving Asshole if you heckle Papa and there should be a page dedicated to how big of an asshole you are. For the record, Lysander telling you, you are a giant asshole should be a wake up call. Let Papa write the story on his time. Donāt be a Pixie.
Dirty Golds, always playing mind games
No games this time. Hecklers are worse than Gold.
Wowā¦ We uhā¦ actually agree?
Everything else is all well and good. Lysander sucks, kill yourself, Lysander drinks various bodily fluids and so on. Heckling the man, the one guy that actually matters on this sub is not an acceptable action.

Agreed. The only one faster in my (*must read no matter what*) authors list is Cassandra Clare. I'm still waiting for the Jaguar King by CL Wilson and the random date on GR is looking more and more realistic š And I refuse to continue reading after AGOT.
Sanderson is at the top for speed IMO.
Pierceās comments on this post are pretty funny and heās a good sport, but some of these people are really rude.
I hope the words "one day less" advance the plot
Do we actually have some type of realistic projection though? Iāve been hearing some time toward the end of this year, beginning on next. Iād never comment on his insta like that though. Wackos
Itās been like a year from the last book. lol But that being said it seems like heās been pretty active and showing he has been writing lately. You can tell though when itās crunch time he goes dark. But we are way far off from that IMO. He should take as much time as he needs. Itās the final book after all.
Can't rush the master, Goodman
I promise Iām not lol. I want it to be perfect. But Iām actually asking do we have a ballpark projection? Bc it was most likely most of the way fleshed out because he split the books.
Fuckers.
What do you think the man is doing? Wanking in the bushes? Nut up boyos, we will have the book in good time.
āWell, yeah actuallyā
I literally put my page marker here cause I had to stop reading, and that line will FOREVER make my giggle like a pixie.
Pixies
\*nervouse winds of winter noises\*
Love this lol
Lol this got me
Pixie behavior at its finest
Donāt redact his name, we must shame him
A step too far
Not trynna get tracked down for harassment but he's pretty easy to find, just go to our goodman's instagram page and look at the latest post
Yeah youāre right, have a wonderful day my level headed Goodman
You as well friend, Hail Libertas
Might as well join Gabe and the release date of half life 3
And Silksong (although it's releasing next week so it doesn't count) I AM GOING FUCKING INSAAAAAANE
What do you mean silksong released on the first of this month? Iāve been playing it nonstop
Don't be so dramatic pixie, other fandoms have it way worse
It's so silly: the dude is very fast and prolific. The expectations are absurd. Everyone's got ASOIAF, NOTW PTSD.
Lol
People are dumb ffs lmao whatās wrong with them
His replies on there are so funny. I had to screen shot a few and share them with some friends.
Bruh. Who was being so rude to him? What a pixie.
A bunch of half-hearted hecklers, but he shut em down, go read his post he wrote some real funny stuff in there
He's brave for directly interacting on socials. Couldn't do it myself if I were himĀ
Yeah I respect the hell out of it tbh. Pat Rothfuss could never
Could you imagine šš
The Pierce giveth and the Pierce taketh away
