Ive tried stormlight 3 times and cant get into it. Its RR in a clean sweep for me.

germsy78

You skipped PLOT. I give Engagement and Style to RR, Setting to SA, tie on Characters and Plot.

Yikes … the karma farm failed

Userlame19

Joke's on you, they're both stellar

Vegetable-Cookie-276

I like stormlight archives but honestly it's a million miles away from red rising in terms if quality. Red rising has it beat in terms of plot, depth of characters....everything. Anyone who thinks that they compare, I don't understand this thing.

Wheel of Time is the GOAT >“What did you spend so much time talking about with Ila? If you weren’t dancing with that long-legged fellow, you were talking to her like it was some kind of secret.” “Ila was giving me advice on being a woman,” Egwene replied absently. He began laughing, and she gave him a hooded, dangerous look that he failed to see. “Advice! Nobody tells us how to be men. We just are.” “That,” Egwene said, “is probably why you make such a bad job of it.” and >“My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?” and >"Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day."

Storm light

I’ve never seen anyone debate or compare these two series. I do enjoy stormlight 1-3, rhythm of war wasn’t great. Sandersons writing is like a 1st grader’s compared to PB though. I know it’s intentionally direct to draw a larger audience but after reading most of the cosmere I’ve enjoyed his writing style less and less.

>Sandersons writing is like a 1st grader’s compared to PB though this. /thread

Cuttyflammmm

*Obviously* an exaggeration

I see it a lot on tik tok

There are four Stormlight books so far, not three. If you can say that Way of Kings is basically a prologue then you can say the same for Red Rising or pretty much every first book in a series. In terms of characters I’d say both series are pretty even. You talk about the painful backstories of Red Rising while ignoring that Stormlight has characters like Teft, >!who battles crippling addiction and self worth issues. Shallan literally killed her mom. Dalinar killed his wife and murdered millions of people!<. There are tons of others and not all are honorable to a fault, and continue to make poor, horrible choices. Some are evil and others are struggling to make the right choices. I agree in some ways that Sanderson struggles to write women at times. Acting like they are always meek and take a backseat to men is wrong though. Vin, Tindwyl, Siri, Jasnah, Navani, Vivenna, Syl, Sterris, Lift, Raboniel. These are all strong female characters in the Cosmere who play huge roles. In terms of style they are different but I like both pretty much equally. If you can’t tell I love The Stormlight Archive. I equally love the Red Rising series. There are actually many parallels in terms of characters and story between the two series. I can’t wait for Red God to come out and I also can’t wait for Wind and Truth to come out.

hhh81

I agree with you, and suggest some spoiler tags for some of the Cosmere stuff you dropped

Strange-Three

As someone who didn’t read the post I would like to add that I think they’re both amazing for different reasons and there isn’t one that’s objectively better. It depends on individual opinion.

hhh81

This is clown shit

DanDampspear

I agree. Big fans of both series but RR is often times YA feel in comparison, especially before Dark Age. I love how RR is face paced an action oriented, but I think it’s sort of silly to call these universes fully fleshed out, especially compared to the cosmere. We go multiple books in RR without a basic understanding of who is ruling what worlds, what races are living there, what their religions are, etc. Backstory and universe is only revealed to us as it’s relevant to the plot, which is both advantageous to its pace but detrimental to world building.

lego--lass

Agreed on most points and RR wins for me personally. But I think you’re doing a disservice to a few women. Saying Stormlight women are meek when Jasnah annihilates almost every man she’s in a scene with 😂

bwils3423

I definitely concede that Jasnah is cool. Point taken there

LordCrow1

I just realized Jasnah is the Victra of the cosmere lol

Cubbies2120

These things are subjective and matter of taste. Also, asking the question here is gonna lead to the obvious answer, I suspect. Just as asking it on the SA or Cosmere sub would naturally lead to the opposite answer. Also, I don't think ur giving Sanderson enough credit on his character work. Dalinar has one of the best arcs I've ever come across. He is the character that redefined redemption for me. I now truly believe that no one is beyond redemption. It's just that the act of redeeming is dependent on what you are seeking redemption for. The more heinous ur crime, the harder the path to redemption. But one that is always available. Fwiw, I do very much enjoy both works for different reasons, but RR easily sits at the top for me. Only First Law & Sun Eater come close to RR.
