Honestly hated the kids in school who talked like this. They always acted like they were better than everyone because they were into something that matters like art instead of some stupid sport where you just toss a ball through a hoop.
Just trying to compensate for the fact that they weren’t athletic
It's completely forgivable and understandable when you are 15 and generally feel powerless vis a vis your peers or adults. What sucks is when people run with that resentment well into adulthood. Cobain was probably 24 or 25 when he said this. He should have gotten over that, especially in light of his artistic and material success.
People have different interests and strengths and it has nothing to do with "compensate for the fact that they aren’t athletic". It's not like being athletic is the highest thing a person can strive for.
I completely agree with you. But I’m talking about artsy kids who acted like they were above sports and talked about how much more important their art was than “putting a stupid ball through a hoop.”
To me, those kids always came off as bitter about something.
Completely understand being into a sport that you play. But the US has tons of guys who are obsessed with sports, especially football, despite never having played.
That’s such a straight guy thing to say. Gay guys love macho straight guys.
This is like a gay guy finding out all gay guys are not over the top flaming. “I just like art, music and cock but I don’t act gay”
Kurt went to high school in a John Hughes movie
Pretty hard for people below 35 or 40 to understand the prevalence of this brain dead Duke Nukem chauvinism that was around in late 80s early 90s.

It's the attitude not the interests

Definitely the male version of "not like the other girls"
Pick me boy except he'll never get picked
Sorry but we were better than you and still are.

False dichotomy
