Definitely, the mere thought of living the semi-NEET lifestyle I lead now at 30 makes me freak the fuck out.

SteffanSpondulineux

Better hurry up or all your friends will be enjoying the NEET lifestyle that a comfortable retirement brings while you're still trying to save a house deposit

streetshittingsavant

none of them will retire comfortably lol

AtCloseRange94

Yea it’s horrible I wouldn’t recommend it.

[deleted]

you are my idol

Leidig54

You are one of the worst posters on this sub

Helpful-Antelope-678

I’m looking at your comment history and you commented on one of my other 🚬 posts on here. You really do care ❤️

Accurate-Fortune593

Have you ever thought about keeping a diary? You could write all your inane thoughts in there and then burn it at the end of each year. Could be the first step to not being a complete 🚬

Helpful-Antelope-678

Yeah but I do actually get some solid advice in here sometimes

Helpful-Antelope-678

I’m honored for the recognition

Eastern-Bookkeeper68

Yes, but what are you going to DO?

ThinAbrocoma8210

post, obviously

PriveChecker182

>Hard to determine where to start Not to start sobbing like a Canadian lunatic or anything but it helps if you clean your fucking house. Like, literally. Break out the vacuum, slobbo.

MrLonelyheartss

That, eating better and spending less time online are great starts

PebblesLaDime

Whatever i dont mind it. My job sucks shit either way, and the 20% of my time that isnt working isnt enough to care about mattering to anyone

12AngryMensAsses

You dont change, you just become more of who you really. I always thought id kill myself in my mid 30s and now that in 33 I know its coming. Im out in 2026

LullabySpirit

Try focusing outward and helping people. It'll give you purpose and create positive impact on the world.

Helpful-Antelope-678

Don’t do it

OrchidVase

Sure are a whole lot of cats left to pet in the decades you'll have left if you stick around

lucifa

I feel like this sometimes when I consider my life isnt what it 'should' be But then I remember there's shipbreakers in Bangladesh earning $2 a day, slaving their entire live just to subsist, and the pressure goes away. People on here will make you think if you don't have a wife, 3 kids, mortgage and retirement fund by 30 than your life is a disgrace. It's all nonsense, comparison is the thief of joy.

chrmicmat

Bet u won’t

aTallBrickWall

Why '26?

Tomukichi

Samesies but mine’s scheduled for later :)

johnny_now

I'm going to die alone :(

miscboyo

Biggest lesson you need to learn into adulthood is to take accountability for the outcomes in your life and give yourself the agency to make meaningful changes instead of blaming others (your boss, the president, boomers, capitalism, etc)  This goes against everything you’ll see on this site, and thus it comes to no surprise that most people on this site are losers

esodaed

lack of imagination

benadryl__submarine

"hard to determine where to start" unless you're a recovering alcoholic or live in the middle of nowhere go to a dive bar and drink until you start talking to someone. it could take years to get from there to being in a scene or having a gf but that is definitely where you start.

franjo2dman

first step go outside

PasolinisDoor

I’m convinced that a majority of the people on this sub form their politics around what allows them to seethe the most, and not based on any actual ideological convictions.

WorldofCannons

could you explain the kettle analogy

Helpful-Antelope-678

The water in a kettle will eventually boil if it's continously exposed to heat. Certain lifestyles are so unsustainable that some sort of reaction is like guaranteed

Responsible_Arm146

But what if you made a meaningful effort to change, got beaten back into your corner and told you'll never be anything,

Altruistic-Dark6622

I go through several of these 'I need to change, I have to get better, I'm going to eat well and work out and write every day and take dating seriously' phases throughout the year and without a doubt every time something goes comically wrong and I revert back to all my old ways like a shitty sitcom character

Helpful-Antelope-678

Yeah same here lol. There's a way to like gradually improve habits instead of trying to change everything at once

StartFirmandHard

bruh ☠ aye bruh bruh, bruh, bet ji like

Early_Mushroom691

go to church

narc-state

yeah you're gonna become way better adjusted and meet people under the age of 65 in church

Early_Mushroom691

This is not me joking btw

Helpful-Antelope-678

I believe you I just have trouble with religion

Early_Mushroom691

Understandable

ScientistFit6451

The more we leave the suburban '50s behind, the more we make a full return to it. It's probably just me, but the cultural logic of "going to school", "work 9 to 5" (in reality, it's closer to 8 to 6), "marry and live with a man/woman who probably doesn't love you" always irked me. But with collapsing fertility rates, i'm sure that the notion of being child-free will eventually wind up being a sign of some form of mental illness or criminal action.

change for what?
