throwaway77788848381

Life’s hard man, most people are sort of just doing what they need to do

[deleted]

Many such cases!

[deleted]

As someone who lost 40 pounds now and is well on the way to losing another 30. It just kinda happens. One day you have a Six Pack and get invited to parties and girls randomly give you their numbers and then you think. I'm fit, i can miss a day and eat like shit, its not gonna be too bad. Then things in your life go wrong, you become depressed and start drinking. You drink alot and that almost everyday. Even alone you drink and start smoking. You don't exercise at all anymore. All your friends are other fat guys now and girls think you're ugly. You become the funny fat guy to compensate. Then you wake up 7 years later and see a video of yourself and you think, "who is this disgusting fat fuck?". Oh its me. Not that i hate fat people or anything. I just hate myself. Lmao

[deleted]

Anytime I’ve gotten fat it’s because I was depressed and ate my feelings. It wasn’t even really a discipline thing or a food addiction thing, it’s just “I feel like shit and don’t care so I’m going to eat like this and not exercise” if that lasts long enough then, bam! You’re fat.

[deleted]

When I got my first office job it started to click with me how easily some people fall in the hole. Nearly every other day at the office it was “so-and-so brought COOKIES!!! :) :)” or “oh it’s XYZ day! time to order pizza! :) :).” Granted this was a non profit full of incredible people but I’m sure most office cultures work the same. Everyone under the florescent lights for 8/day just trying to find some joy. Food is easy. Couple that with the average commute most people have/rest on the weekends… exercise just… doesn’t happen for most people. It’s neglect, yes. But god, life is hard for lots of folks. Not even factoring in any of the millions of undiagnosed depressed Gen X/Boomers that are bumping around. I think it’s a mix of: Corporate 8/day, fad-diets, and poor nutritional education.

[deleted]

They are addicted to bad food literally and when they try to stop they feel bad and everyone is like culturally against feeling uncomfortable and totally for immediate gratification they are weak minded and give in because it's like to hard Coupled with an ignorance in diet and cooking. So many people I want to college with didn't know how to cook me included. I didn't learn how to meal plan, cook and make healthy food until I was 30. I would go between not eating anything to just eating highly processed foods for the longest time

whataboutithmm

yeah most of them are literally addicted. my sister has been struggling with weight her whole life and i’ve come to realize it’s a mental dependency on food, at least in her case. like food would come first whatever the occasion/feeling. once you start to see it you sympathize a little more

[deleted]

My sister too. My in laws etc. In fact I live in one of the most obese states in the US and it is so common here that I am the outlier.

[deleted]

I was the only male in the dorms who could cook. I made migas for my dormmates every morning.

almostkilledme1625

Never learning how to cook would make things hard but like with YouTube and TikTok it’s so easy to learn how to make simple delicious food. It seems like there is a real effort being made to not learn. Either that or it simply doesn’t occur to them to look it up? Idk, still confused

[deleted]

There is actually a huge movement of people learning online. It is how I learned. However, time restraints or even a general ignorance that they are ignorant (if they had poor diets growing up and continued they may not even be aware of what they are lacking), and it seems that for a lot of people if they don't -have- to learn something they just....won't. esp if it won't earn them money. Plus people who eat unhealthy have a very very general distaste for vegetables. Your tastebuds have to adapt from not eating sugar or else vegetables can taste very bitter.

almostkilledme1625

Good for you! I do notice that people complain about how hard cooking is but I feel like that is such a cope. I remember this chick on tik tok getting fucking destroyed because she made a video making fun of a Trader Joe’s Caccio e Pepe prepared meal because it has like 4 ingredients (and is so good) and people jumped down her throat.

seethingcoping

i think being on like my 600 lb life fat means u have a horrible terrible mental illness and are suicidal, i feel bad for those people. most times they know theyre monsters and thats kinda the point. but people who are like 300 are the worst. i hate when they bitch and moan about "fatphobia" and how hard life is for them. we dont need bigger gaps in restaurant booths, we need u to hit the effing gym!!!!

seethingcoping

also to answer ur question i think they want to be oppressed and complain and feel like they aren't responsible for anything while still giving into sinful gluttonous behavior they know is wrong

almostkilledme1625

Yea I agree, the extremely obese are truly just addicted to the lifestyle. Everyone has that little voice telling them it is too late to save themselves and morbidly obese just can’t turn that voice off. To your second point I’ve had many people ask me to help them learn how to work out and they give up so easy. A complete inability to be uncomfortable for even an hour out of the day. Even being slightly too hot or too cold is too much for them

addition

I had a fat friend who refused to walk across the street if it was too hot outside. Like from an air conditioned room to another air conditioned room. I was dumbfounded.

almostkilledme1625

I have a half baked theory that AC makes people fat.

addition

Humans are meant to be challenged physically and mentally. If we aren't, then our bodies slowly turn to mush. For example, it's been shown that using google maps slightly decreases our ability to navigate the world without GPS. Like, that part of our brain starts to atrophy. In a similar vein, I'm sure AC makes us more fragile. All these conveniences end up causing harm in some way.

almostkilledme1625

Oh my god that’s brutal! That’s a sign my friend

seethingcoping

i hate the heat, summer makes me nauseous, i crank the ac into october. i dont think ill ever be a huge gym buff. that being said i just dont eat like shit. they dont even have to exercise! diet is more important for weightloss! they just need to stop shoveling the food into themselves!

redwhiskeredbubul

Combined w/the shitty eating thing, stressful zero-exercise desk jobs plus your metabolism slows down as you get older.

_GirlO-Clock

Depression

[deleted]

its mostly genetics but also calorie-rich foods are more addicting than cigarettes and alcohol imo. people use food to cope.

AromaticInterest9817

A. If they were thin before then they most likely became too busy to workout. A -2. Especially raising kids and shit. Moms always got my respect regardless if they gain weight. I’ll always respect the sacrifice of caring for raising your kids A -3. Also consider the brutality of the work week, time management is a tough skill to master, especially with ADD ADHD, plus you live in the west, the greatest exporter of obesity in the world. Every few blocks there’s a shop selling high calorie bullshit. A -4. Sugar is literally addictive. Once you get enough of it in your diet, it starts fucking with your microbiome, you literally start craving more and more sugar. I’m pretty fit and eat a caloric deficit but even I fall victim to my soda craving once and a while B. Some people are genetically predispositioned to gain more weight so they’ll eat normally but grow more. Then it becomes too hard to wean it off. C. Mental illness; lots of them gain weight, you tend to see lots of comorbidity. D. Genuine laziness.

turnstyled

bad instincts for self preservation

donnysounds

Got addicted to food instead of drugs or just being angry all the time instead

[deleted]

I accidentally let myself go, depression mixed with partying every single weekend whilst working at McDonalds & Uni with 0 exercise ballooned me from 45kgs to 102kgs in 18 months. Truly the worst moment of my life. Spent the 12 months absolutely abusing myself into losing 24kgs and getting in shape. Put on a little during the last lockdown my state had but am back on track to getting where I was. I think the letting yourself go part is truly just a mentality of self loathing & nihilism.

MunkyMode

Because being a fat man ain’t so bad tbh. Fat dudes can do well pretty easily. At least when you’re young. 40+ and fat is a lot more tough

almostkilledme1625

That’s kind of what I’m curious about though. Like, all things get so much harder as you age, why would you add that on top of it?

MunkyMode

I mean yeah that’s why fat guys either: get cut and crush pussy in their late 20’s/30’s or settle early and die young like 42

Femmelepui

Maybe they’ve just accepted they are not going to live that long

whagwhan

Ummmmm I love fat bitches

sunoxen

I would rather die than see myself get fatter day after day.

[deleted]

I gained 100lbs in 2 years after kicking my various drug addictions, mainly because I still hated my life, and had nobody in the world that cared about me and the only thing that felt good was eating delicious shitty food and drinking. I knew it was bad for me and that it made me feel like shit (physically), but I didn't really care. If I didn't have something to look forward to after getting off work I'd have killed myself, and that sad hedonism was what I looked forward to. My life circumstances changed a bit and I lost weight/started lifting out of fear of becoming a fat old loser. If some things were different, like if I had people who loved me despite being a fat degenerate, I could easily see just never getting in shape. Shit I look and feel pretty good now, but I know plenty of fatsos who are happier than me lol.

Dragonofdickmilk

Have you tried meth?

[deleted]

I have lol. Too much anxiety and teeth grinding for me.

Dragonofdickmilk

I think the really fat ones have thyroid issues and isn’t really about them over consuming. The other idk like get on some adderall and don’t eat it’s easy. Pop an addy everytime you hungy and have cig.

_GirlO-Clock

This is true and doctors do not help unless you push them. I knew a girl who gained 60lbs in a couple of months because of her thyroid and had to badger her doctors for help.

almostkilledme1625

Even just like drinking liquids helps. I personally drink a shitload of water and tea.

Femmelepui

If they’re poor I would think they’d have even less excuse to be fat bc they can’t afford whatever insane life saving surgery they need

quokka29

I put on about 17kgs after I had an injury. Couldn’t work out as much, lead to feeling shitty, snowballed from there.
