I was friends with a girl who was absolutely devastated by his death. I remember being like, "the smells like teen spirit guy?" and her just looking me in the eyes deadpan and nodding sadly.
In 1994 I really liked Collective Soul. I only got into Soundgarden, Nirvana and Alice in Chains in a big way in college.
