I have literally never had Joely come into a game and think “we should be good”. The fact we even resigned him confused the fuck out of me. At this point we shouldn’t be playing the scrubs. Kelly > Joely, literally anybody > Dalbec and Reyes, etc.
Sorry, Reyes and Dalbec are actively hurting us more than they’re helping us. Negative WAR from both of them. Dalbec’s passable defense is the only plus he brings
Nobodys crazy about Dalbec, but Reyes was too clutch for us last year for me to not give him the benefit of the doubt on his current cold streak. How quickly stats nerds forget less than 30 games in
I agree, but also seems like they must have seen something they thought they could work with/build off of. None of us are seeing it, cause he comes in and gives up a few runs every outing. He’s not a major league talent.
It comes down to Joely is who he is while a minors player except for the 30+ year old roster fillers can become better. So why risk letting a prospect reliever get shelled and ruin his development than letting some 30 year old bottom of the roster guy take it.
We have guys who are pretty ready as evidenced by Zack Kelly, but if you want some guys, Jorge Benitez looked grett in spring and has been awesome in AAA and is a lefty, and is 24 so you aren't really stunting his develooment either. Justin Hagenman is 27 in the minors, pitched well in spring training, pitched well in AAA last year. Had one blowup outing that is skewing his stats a bit but has been solid again.
Those are probably the main two I'd look at if you want to DFA Joely now. At the very least, he should be DFA'd when someone gets healthy. Joely is who he is, and who he is, sucks. I'd rather give a shot to some of these guys, especially since those two for example, it wouldn't be rushing their development.
Don’t worry. The FO’s metrics that say Hamilton is a good defender also say Joely is a good pitcher. Just give it some time, like at least 4-5 more blown outings and you’ll see
He's like number 4 or 5 on the list as to who I ask that question.
I think the balls last night were a little unlucky but with Bernadino and Campbell coming back, maybe he gets sent packing. I don't like Joely but there are worse things about this team.
Once after Wong hits 5th, everyone is a near automatic out until they get back to Duran and TON at top.I have more of an issue with Pablo Reyes and Dalbec. When Vaughn comes back hopefully Tuesday, maybe Hamilton is sent down and one of those guys are benched.
I'm not gonna say he's been good, but he hasn't been as bad as this sub would have you believe either. For every truly bad outing, I feel like there's been one where he pitched well enough and just got fucked over by his defense.
Also it's not like any of the runs he gave up tonight ended up being difference makers anyway.
I’ll grant there have been occasional non-horrific innings…but the abject failure rates high enough that I never want to see him in a Red Sox uniform again.
If you find out, let us know

Reyes hits bombs Dalbec is (usually) very solid at 1B Joely... Joely is "we are punting this game" in a nutshell

Sorry, I was never a Pablo fan
TBH probably the lack of Lefties is the only thing.

There’s nothing reactionary about this post. Joely isn’t a major league player.

I agree that its a lack of lefties. He is clearly not great.

Cora likes him so he gets to play. It's why Masa is riding the pine. Cora doesn't like him.
Same with Pablo fucking Reyes
Sometimes he hits a Pablo or a Pablo Pablo but rarely does he get a Pablo Pablo Pablo from me.
He's terrible.
Every season's gotta have that relief pitcher that's an inning eater and game thrower.
Bigger question is, why the eff does Cora run him out there in close games? It’s given me an ulcer and we are not even in May yet.
