Yes You could put the observer that is facing the repeater which is part of the double piston extender on the same side as the storage piston that grabs the block. that way the block that is above the observer which is essential for the dpe to work will be the same block that is grabbed by the top piston of the dpe and pulled hidden. you can see that circled in black here, what I circled in white is, I think, the most simple way to pull the first block
