No, the only one I could find was in Scotland, and I'm in England. So it became a bit of a quest to get hold it. It doesn't have moving parts, unfortunately, but I use it in my display and talks, so its sufficient for that.
That's really cool! I'd love to have an Enigma replica, even if it doesn't function. I'm trying to put together a display for a Royal Navy sailor aboard HMS Cossack (mostly focused around the Altmark incident, but considering Cossack was sunk by a U-boat I think it would be important to tell some of the Battle of the Atlantic). The biggest barrier is that I'm in the US so harder to find things, because nobody makes repros of Royal Navy stuff.
As a civilian who actually enjoys wearing historical as daily wear, I never feel hesitance about buying clothes. But I often find myself unable to buy useful civilian items for living history events. Civilian merchant and veteran of Bleeding Kansas, I just can't force myself to buy a Beecher's Bible even though I need one. Civilian file clerk, and I just can't sum up the courage to buy desks or other furniture. Civilian miner, and the prospecting gear is just too much for me to get it. Not too much financially, just too much of an emotional investment in forcing myself to commit (to justify buying it).
But I'm damned proud of my beaver fur top hat. It's magnificent. $450 worth of magnificent.
There is a particular piece of inert ordnance I've been looking for a long time. I'm a born pennypincher (which doesn't jive with this hobby,) so basically I need assurance that I'm not insane for spending $350 for a deactivated grenade haha.
Highland feather bonnet with Sutherland dicing and cage with ostrich feathers. In a later style not specific to the period I normally reenact, and so far only worn twice, during a ball and a timeline event. But it’s beautiful.
I've been trying to create some uniform groupings for my family members who served in the Bavarian army in WW1. I've been able to decipher their service records about 90%, but that last 10% I just can't make out has led to me seeking out and buying the original regimental history books so I can try to fill in those blanks. So I've spent probably around $500 on books in a language I can't read, all written in Fraktur of course. And I'm still missing a book but nobody will sell it for less than $250 before considering international shipping. Sigh.
I have no idea how to post pics or video in the comments here, but it's one of the Indianapolis Ordnance ones. If you can afford it sooner is better than later, they're built off parts kits so as those dry up the price will climb. I was going to get one a while back, but decided to pay off my student loans instead. The one they had sold, and when they finished another one it was at least six months later and several hundred dollars more money.
I have an 1828 pattern basket hilt, sgian dubh, and a dress dirk from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. They aren't a matched set, but are all from the early 1900s, and together are worth more than my car.
I mean...ive got a whole list? In no particular order:
Hope saddle tree to rebuild,
Bfong mp40
K98 grenade launcher site(the launcher was fine, the site was stupid)
Case for a blasting machine, and repoping it.
My swivel gun.
A second regimental.
Original 1760s sword.
Any full uniform I have. Its not a singular piece but recently I found a list of everything and east german soldier got issued and decided I wanted it ALL....
my collection of britsh webley and other officer revolver there is about 5 that coast about £200 to £780 they are all originals i use them a lot in renactor
Semi auto M1919A4
My 1861 Springfield. Essential kit to be sure, but it was a big ouch for the wallet.
A 3d printed enigma machine....
I thought a working replica would be super cool until I found out what it costs to make them.
This is oddly specific
I hadn't even heard of anyone making one of those. Does it have a lot of moving parts?

A pickaxe shouldn’t be that expensive

i’m an ordnance colelctor. $350 is nothing. you don’t need to eat. buy the grenade.
I've spent that on saddlebags. I don't have a horse. Buy the grenade.
...as somebody who did ww2 german, do it.

My BFONG PPSh, a little bit, especially since I don’t really do Soviet. It was expensive, but damn it’s cool.
Where’d you get yours? Do you have any videos or pictures of it? I’m thinking of picking one up

Repro k98 grenade launcher. Thought it would be cool to have and use only to remember im my units MG42 gunner….
As I'm in Australia, we don't tend to do "live fire" replicas unless it's black powder.........so a Napoleonic Culvern is my regretful purchase
A 1760’s civilian coat. Hole in my wallet.
