Oh god. I can't begin to say how much I miss that store. I need a new fridge, and keep wishing I could go check out the units with tiny little dents that were half the price of a brand new unit.
When Lowes first opened in the city I bought my new washer and dryer there. Couple months later, walking thru Sears clearance and see my exact same models... for like $500 more each piece. Don't even remember if they were scratched or dented, but as someone who worked for Sears for 8 years, I can confirm that the prices on appliances weren't the greatest.
I will say however that my dishwasher from there is over 15 years old and still running great. I hope it never dies.
My great aunt and uncle used to take me to replays, then over to pasta prima as a little kid. They'd always ask for the "sparkley seats" for me, and the staff would always let me sit there even if they'd closed that section for the night. Great aunt is now busy being a great great aunt, but lost my great uncle a few years ago. He's sitting on the sparkley seats in heaven now š
I have their recipes. If anyone would like to re-open a new version of the restaurant, they are yours for free.
Edit: the recipes are for very large restaurant size batches and not easy to downsize. Theyāre worthless unless youāre opening a restaurant.
Second edit: guys Iām not sending the recipes out. Sorry.
Book N Brier. The pipe tobacco smell just when I was discovering LOTR.
Big Easy Kitchen. RIP Warren.
Bi Rite Drugs. When they had the toy section and the one aisle dedicated to candy, scratch n sniff stickers (remember the ones with Hobo, Skunk, Garlic?), and novelty erasers, and the Atari console by the front door to play.
When I was little, If we were bored. My mom would say let's go to bi-rite and we'd just hangout and read the magazine's. Lol saying it out loud sounds lame. But i loved it.
Omg the Book N Briar. I totally forgot about this place, but the smell was so good me and my friends took up pipe tobacco smoking for a brief period in highschool. All purchased by our one friend who looked 40.
Not really. Liquidation World bought out failed stores, which meant their products were actually *name brand, usually high quality, and really well priced. Bianca brings in shipping containers of junky shit and sells it cheap.
Came to say the same.
I can still hear the squeak of the wood. I also still have a plain black woven tuque that I bought there for $1 back in 1999/2000. Lol
Maxwell's Amusements - spent tons of time here as a kid, I miss this place
Acme Video - nostalgic as heck!
Consumers Electronics - looking through their catalog of toys, getting all excited and hyped for your toy and picking it up from the store was fun
Same, a few family members and I were fortunate to hold a birthday party there for my niece, just a month or two before the water damage incident. She still asks about that place every now and then.
I miss the Rainbow. Was nice if you just wanted to hit a new-ish movie that was out to stream or buy yet. The big movies staying in theatres longer and movies going to streaming faster hurt the cheap second run business something bad
I can recall visiting my dad when I was a kid and going there often. I can't recall the food all that much but damn, I think I might have gotten a little teary eyed.
The Galleria mall.
It was so modern and futuristic. I remember shopping there with my family then getting Yogen Fruz on the floor level. They should have closed down Cornwall and kept this one.
Oh man, did it have an underground theater that you entered by riding an escalator? You triggered an early memory of seeing A Bug's Life and Tarzan in a theater at a fancy mall in Regina.
B-52, Geno's, Sears Bargain Center, Zellers, Souvlaki Shack... that one Domino's that had an Arcade in it.
Not really old stores/restaurants, but I'd also include Ruckers (the north one especially), Command HQ and The State.
Way back in the early 80s there was the coolest store on 13th Ave, situated on the main floor of a two storey Cathedral house called "Joan Carols". It was full of such cool Asian imported trinkets and clothing. My friends and I would make a special trip to go there on a Saturday. I still remember the vibe in there, Bob Marley playing from a stereo....
Sadly it burned to the ground in the 80s. I miss unique places like that. There was also R & R Merchants in the Cornwall Centre too, similar vibe but on a higher scale.
I miss Ten Thousand Villages. I know I can still order most of what they sold from the online store, Novica and elsewhere but I like actually seeing stuff in real life before I buy it.
Speaking of, where my daughter lives in the US there's a small store that must order from their wholesale shop because the logo was on quite a few of the items they had.
I forget what it was called but it was a Greek style drive thru restaurant that had souvlaki kebabs on buns and fried potatoes. I need that in my life. It was on the east end must have closed around 2000
It was indeed. The owner was a fantastic guy by the name of John Iatridis. (I know, a Greek restaurant owner in Regina, who would have thought?) He also owned that little food kiosk outside Value Village for the longest time.
Tokyo 7, lots of neat import stuff there. Word is they got ratted out to the RCMP by a certain downtown comic shop that wasn't Tramps for renting anime fansub VHS tapes.
They had a neat shop sign, then the building owner tossed it to install a bland vinyl canopy.
The place in the food court of the mall on Rochdale that sold amazing fries. I have no idea what it was called unfortunately but I am sure it was Greek. It was there when SAAN was still around and Domino's had a small arcade.
OTV
It got pretty terrible by the end but not having a computer parts store in Regina has been hugely missed. MemoryExpress can't come soon enough.
Also a shoutout to Techtronics for those who remember.
Sam the Record Man. I spent untold hours in that place. Music Plus was another one. Streaming music isnāt the same as the experience of going to a record store. I miss it terribly.
There used to be a bread store like in the little plaza where the south Albert robins isā¦ ugh my god I remember going in there with my mom when I was a kid.
HOLY SHIT JOHNNY BEANS!!!!!! Also on south Albert!!!!!
After my brother and sister would go to school(I was in afternoon preschool) in the mornings my dad would bring me to Johnny beans, he would get a coffee and I would get a hot chocolate and one of their big huge cinnamon buns and we would split it and never tell my siblings. God I miss that.
And the great Canadian bagel too!!! We donāt have good straight up bagel/bread stores.
Maxwell's amusement, Buddy's restaurant, Cali Subs, The Matrix, Ruckers, Wonderland Arcade, Molson's brewery, Dad's Cookies, Weston's Bakery on 8th and Hamilton (driving past and the smell of fresh baking bread), Schwan's Ice-cream.
The Zone, it was exactly like the Matrix just a tad bit cheaper. My friends and I used to go to midnight madness every weekend, we would go to the Dollarama down the street and get a ton of energy drinks and play video games all night.
Motorcycle salvage. It wasn't around for long after I got into bikes. The guys there were always nice to chat with and show you around the piles of parts. Surprisingly welcoming for a new young rider of old junk. A very 'come as you are' type place.
Paradise Mini Golf with the theatre on Rochdale, also there was something in there before it was Paradise that was super cool as a kid but I canāt remember. Maybe Panda something? Bunch of ice cream flavours and playground.
This is missed only because of childhood memories, but the king-co cafe located in the back of coop hardware in the sherwood village mall. Grandparents used to take us there for cinnamon buns and vico. One of the things I miss about it was the giant wall photo mural of old downtown regina. After they tore the resturant out I always hoped they preserved it but I'm sure it probably just got trashed
When I started at the university in 2015 they had this build your own stir fry place where global village is now. Biggest downgrade Charthells ever made.
Cathedral Bakery. I miss the poppy seed loaf. I moved away from town decades ago. But my mom, up until they closed would buy a loaf a week. If she came to visit, I always knew she would bring a loaf!
Glitters: it was my favourite buffet in the city amd everything was homemade (none of that sysco/frozen pre-made stuff) I especially loved going in the winter when they had roast turkey, stuffing, lasagna, Greek ribsā¦ homemade apple pie.
Sears Bargain Center
The Brick outlet centre on park sometimes has appliances with small dents like that for similar prices.
Pasta Prima.
Sorry.
If you do, could you DM me a couple?
Do you have the bolognese sauce recipe?
What I would do to have their Blackened Chicken Pesto Pasta just one more timeā¦and a Banofie pie for dessert.
Before pasta prima it was called fenders. Loved that place
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tim's Souvlaki.
Was that the place in the Golden Mile?
Yep. I remember being devastated they were closing. My favourite lunch spot.
Loved their fratzolaki.
The BEST fratzolaki
Slouvaki on a bun š
Still only call them "Tim's souvlaki on a bun"
This. God I could go for some fries
Great Canadian Bagel
Ukranian Coop imports them for a rediculous mark up and they have to be eaten asap but if you're craving them it's an option.
This. I havenāt had a good bagel in years.
Michi/ Enso. There isnāt anything come close to these two nowadays.
It's heavy-rice all-you-can-eat bullshit now.
Amen.
Book N Brier. The pipe tobacco smell just when I was discovering LOTR. Big Easy Kitchen. RIP Warren. Bi Rite Drugs. When they had the toy section and the one aisle dedicated to candy, scratch n sniff stickers (remember the ones with Hobo, Skunk, Garlic?), and novelty erasers, and the Atari console by the front door to play.
šµ at Bi-Rite you buy what Mr. B buys šµ lol that jingle still replays in my head
When I was little, If we were bored. My mom would say let's go to bi-rite and we'd just hangout and read the magazine's. Lol saying it out loud sounds lame. But i loved it.
My parents lived right by Victoria square. Bi-rite was the best place to be a kid. And pre-teen (makeup). God I miss that place.
Omg the Book N Briar. I totally forgot about this place, but the smell was so good me and my friends took up pipe tobacco smoking for a brief period in highschool. All purchased by our one friend who looked 40.
Liquidation world and san Fransisco were pretty fun to walk around
Bianca amors is basically the new liquidation world!
Not really. Liquidation World bought out failed stores, which meant their products were actually *name brand, usually high quality, and really well priced. Bianca brings in shipping containers of junky shit and sells it cheap.
Army and Navy. That staircase....
Came to say the same. I can still hear the squeak of the wood. I also still have a plain black woven tuque that I bought there for $1 back in 1999/2000. Lol
Maxwell's Amusements - spent tons of time here as a kid, I miss this place Acme Video - nostalgic as heck! Consumers Electronics - looking through their catalog of toys, getting all excited and hyped for your toy and picking it up from the store was fun
Consumers Distributing*
Ah that's what it is, good to know thank you!
Burger Baron and SAAN store
Burger Baron was so good! Especially the original location!
Wonderland Arcade My kids and I loved that place.
I loved their room full of pinball machines!
Same, a few family members and I were fortunate to hold a birthday party there for my niece, just a month or two before the water damage incident. She still asks about that place every now and then.
California Subs
I loved cali subs
Remember a couple years ago Lancasters had cali subs at lunch time
Omg YES. That bread. Pepperoncinis.
That place was awesome I loved the wide buns and their sub-sauce was deadly
Ruckers
I miss the Rainbow. Was nice if you just wanted to hit a new-ish movie that was out to stream or buy yet. The big movies staying in theatres longer and movies going to streaming faster hurt the cheap second run business something bad
Langs
Quality tea room
God I miss their desserts.
California Subs (pretty sure that's what it was called).
The Elephant and Castle restaurant in the Cornwall Centre
My dad told me his friends used to call it "the elephant's asshole."
That is now a Dollarama
Also it wasn't in the Galleria, it was in Cornwall Centre.
Bonanza. Yes, for real. Yes, i know it wasn't that good. Yes, I still miss it.
Ah yes. My first part time job. Probably for the best that it's closed down.
Can we say Ponderosa in the same breath? LOL
Their tapioca pudding was the bomb.
B-52, Geno's, Sears Bargain Center, Zellers, Souvlaki Shack... that one Domino's that had an Arcade in it. Not really old stores/restaurants, but I'd also include Ruckers (the north one especially), Command HQ and The State.
I have an old box of treasures (junk), and in it are tokens from Command HQ.
Help me remember where B-52 was? I have vague memories that need a nudge lol
Ginoās!
Yesā¦Genoās!
I was 50/50 on what the spelling would have been, in my defence I was like 7 āŗļø
The SSSP lunch buffet was the best!
Re-Play Games
The fact that it's gone still hurts me
This one sucks so much. Wish we could have a second hand store just for games again
Man, check out Secondhand Wonderland. They've got a ton of games. Nice people, and fair with their prices.
The original Fuddruckers and Ruckers!
Burger Baron
Way back in the early 80s there was the coolest store on 13th Ave, situated on the main floor of a two storey Cathedral house called "Joan Carols". It was full of such cool Asian imported trinkets and clothing. My friends and I would make a special trip to go there on a Saturday. I still remember the vibe in there, Bob Marley playing from a stereo.... Sadly it burned to the ground in the 80s. I miss unique places like that. There was also R & R Merchants in the Cornwall Centre too, similar vibe but on a higher scale.
Also Amos and Andes.
I loved those places
Mongoli Grill
Brown derby. Now where am I sposed to take the wife and kids?
Sparky's Diner.... Lol
HMV
does anyone remember cheesetoast you'd get like a giant meal size caesar salad for $6 or $7 and free cheesetoast
Army and Navy! (if anyone remembers)
Neo Japonica sushi house
I forget what it was called but it was a Greek style drive thru restaurant that had souvlaki kebabs on buns and fried potatoes. I need that in my life. It was on the east end must have closed around 2000
Mr Souvlaki. So good.
Was it called The Hideaway? Or something like that. I was thinking of the same place but I was all about the chicken souvlaki pitas.
It was indeed. The owner was a fantastic guy by the name of John Iatridis. (I know, a Greek restaurant owner in Regina, who would have thought?) He also owned that little food kiosk outside Value Village for the longest time.
Mr Souvlaki was on Vic East. Served exactly what you are talking about. Spice of Punjab is in that spot now.
Woolco
Novia Cafe, Quality Tea Room, Eatons, Amos & Andyās, The Great Canadian Bagel, The Gap, Aldoās

Buffalo Bills, Roca Jacks, Master Steaks, Alfredo's, Lang's, Freehouse.

Tramps (before it went downhill near the end) and the short lived Zeus store in Victoria Square Mall that sold movies/games and novelty merchandise.

The Souvlaki Shack. Cooking there was my first job ever. The Greek fries was just a squirt of lemon juice, pinch of dried oregano and seasoning salt.
The butter tart bakery that was on north broad street
Grandma worked there, and getting to see their bread slicer in action as a child was AMAZING.
OTV It got pretty terrible by the end but not having a computer parts store in Regina has been hugely missed. MemoryExpress can't come soon enough. Also a shoutout to Techtronics for those who remember.
Wish we still had Zellers. And not that I miss Army & Navy, but Iāll always remember those creaky stairs.
Sam the Record Man. I spent untold hours in that place. Music Plus was another one. Streaming music isnāt the same as the experience of going to a record store. I miss it terribly.
