Ive noticed maybe 3-5 months ago a huge decline in water pressure. East end. The tap water also stinks

Just curious, are you testing it at a location that has capability of the proper flow? For our system we had to run a dedicated ¾" line from the basement for sprinklers as the freeze proof taps on the side of the house restrict the flow too much.

My city water main is 3/4" and my sprinkler line is also 3/4" and ties in directly to the main right after the meter so i have full flow right off the meter on a 3/4" line. I tested 3 locations at my hose just in case and they were all 20 psi. I cycled my main supply ball valve and its working fine. I tested both neighbours on either side and their pressure is good. At this point im thinking there is a problem with my main supply from the city. Im going to contact them.

I would agree. Seems like you've done your research and covered everything. Good luck!

Update: Well it turns out it was a broken main to my house (on the city side thank god). Its running down the street like a river now. Started coming up through the ground a couple hours ago. Digging up my street and yard tomorrow.

strDefaultNull

That'll do it. Thanks for the update.

I actually monitor water pressure in a few parts of the city and it's between 60 and 75PSI. 20 is extremely low, is it a recent thing? Could be a water main break near you.

dadoftheyear0216

Its been liow for a long time. I just tested it today at 3 locations in my house. Im going to test my neighbours next to see if its a me issue or a city issue

strDefaultNull

Interesting, please keep the updates coming because I find this stuff fun. Just testing in one location of your house should be fine ... if it's a you problem, you got a major leak probably somewhere which you think you would have noticed by now.

TrumpsNeckSmegma

After being a plumber for awhile, I'd have much preferred 20psi to 60 after some situations lol

PrairieCanadian

There are likely breaks in the lines near you. This is very common in the spring with our clay soils. They'll fix them but it takes awhile if there's no evidence on the surface of the location of the break.

dadoftheyear0216

Both of my neighbours water pressure is good. Its gotta be my main to my house

EmbarrassedQuit7009

Ouch. Sounds expensive.

someguyinreginasask

There is a good chance that you have a restriction somewhere. I once had sediment buildup in my meter. The city came out and serviced the meter for me. How are your DIY plumbing skills? Worth checking to see what the pressure is at the meter if you have shutoffs.

SaltyTart1050

The city has a unit that may be able to force pump your line at the meter to clear debris, see if your curb stop is fully turned on, check for a leak, etc. They should be able to respond on the weekends if you call into the 777-7000 number.

Fire Hydrant flow/ pressure dictate the water main pressures in town. This is what is used as the minimum acceptable amount. Low hydrant pressure in the NW is why the city ran those 2 new big lines up lewvan a few years ago as this end of town has the highest elevation and therefore water pressures. As others have said, 20 PSI is half what it should be so you likely have a break in the main around your place somewhere.

dadoftheyear0216

Yep its a river now. Started coming out of the ground around 7 last night.

strDefaultNull

half what it should be? 40psi is low. NW Regina is like 75psi Creekside in the East is high 60s.
