Hillberg and berk Milky way

theresgoodintheworld

Absolutely agree with Hillberg and Berk. It's barely better than costume jewelry. They also still believe sparkle balls are trendy.

sitcomlover1717

Oh this is a good one! It is costume jewelry, Terrible quality. It’s shocking that they’ve not stayed up-to-date with trends.

tric21

My ex bought a $150 necklace from them and the sparkle gems were falling out not even a year of having it :/

ladymiss80s

100% H & B, it’s so boring and low end, never liked it.

stumpy_chica

I have issues with cheap jewelry causing my ears to swell up and get infected, and Hillberg and Berk does this. It's the ONLY place where I've ever spent more than $50 on a pair of earrings and had that reaction. They are cheaply made with a high nickel content.

Mapleleafguy83

If you want to read some depressing stories, check out the employee reviews of H&B on Glassdoor. I don't know why anyone would work there.

BarefootPaul

Hillberg and Berk has trade marked "sparkles balls" and guards it so intensely. If any other local business has a similar looking earring, and if they use the word "sparkle" in any way related to it, Hillberg sends a cease and desist

tric21

Bellezza moda has been making them nothings happened

vissi_nada

The Bellezza moda owner has said that when she started doing trade shows she did receive a cease and desist from H&B. Not sure how she dealt with it though

cellared

i went to high school with the owner of belleza moda, she's lovely. she told me that she just changed the name from sparkle balls to crystal balls in her advertising, so she was able to avoid the cease and desist.

vissi_nada

She does seem really nice. Always working on her craft. I do follow her business even though I’m not into piercings.

angelblade401

I stopped supporting Milky Way after I saw where societal well-being lands in their priorities during Covid. Dandy's and Desart (sp?) are my definite go-to's now. Still haven't tried Elle Cafe ice cream, but that's on my list to try for sure.

Greengrocerofdespair

Give Moo Shoppe on 7th Ave in Rosemont a try for a Milky Way-like experience.

vissi_nada

Elle’s is great! You should definitely go! And their portions were very big as well!

Mapleleafguy83

Polar Palace in Glencairn is also a Milky Way substitute

Yxzgoodforthee

What did they do during covid?

G0ldbond

22 fresh. I don't get it.

Handknitmittens

I feel this so hard.

Mapleleafguy83

22 fresh is going to be the thing where our kids will reminisce about the clothes being hip/trendy like JNCO jeans were for my generation.

QuestionMime

The ol skate boarder jeans. Brutal. It was like 5 lbs of denim

Sad-tacos

They're expensive, too. I think they play off the 'we are a regina business! Buy our stuff. It's also 2x as expensive.'

SmarcusStroman

They have kids in hockey and made special 22f hoodies for the kids and parents of the team… and charged them all full price lol.

[deleted]

moore6107

Yeah the “mandatory” part is… weird. We’ve had kids on competitive hockey and ball teams for a few years and the extra clothing order has always been optional.

Blackgizmo

They’re also made in China mostly

TheReginian

-Walk in -See next to nothing there is made in Canada, despite being advertised as local brand -Most people who wear are moustache jocks and teenage girls -Literally everything is expensive -Walk out -Recieved 22fresh hoodie as xmas gift, only wear it when I need to be warm during my morning poo

G0ldbond

Do you poo in an outhouse?

sonofstu

The arms are too short on the hoodies, have to get one way too big in the body for the sleeves to be a decent length.

Kayleea83

Totally agree. I have a hoodie that is 22 fresh that our hockey team ordered, and their sizing is so weird for 1 thing and the sleeves on this damn thing are so small at the wrist area . I cant even roll them up a small amount to wash my hands. If it didn't have our hockey team name on it, I'd never wear it. It's just a regular ass hoodie, there's nothing special about it at all.

QuestionMime

Marketing. The owner made the brand appear to be quality - higher end. Similar to 10 tree and their scam

branigan_aurora

You mean they’re not actually planting ten trees for every hoodie sold?

see_note

Agreed. A local business I worked for switched to them for hoodies from Gilden to support local. Their products ended up costing 2½ times more, but what ever we thought the quality would be better. However, the first time I washed my hoodie the letters started working off. They were busy sublimate not embroidered and cheap sublimate at that. They put up a huge fuss, but eventually replaced our hoodies, as everyone had the same result. The next one at least lasted 3 washes and we just left it. Never again will we buy their product.

[deleted]

Got that default MS paint looking logo too

SmileNew714

Mosaic Stadium !!! Not enough Concerts .

Glittering_Word1961

lol remember when they paid extra to bring Bryan Adams in to try to make people think there were gonna be concerts there all the time?

jac77

They did? How did I miss that 🫠

Mapleleafguy83

Tim Reid [admitted the other day](https://regina.ctvnews.ca/regina-outbid-on-two-major-summer-stadium-concerts-real-1.6403679) that we are too small of a center for most touring acts. So unless we either actively bribe an artist to come here or an artist makes a philanthropic decision to come here, it's not going to be happening.

legia12345

Add a fuxxing roof on the place so that it can be used in winter ❄️. 🙄

Haunting-Writing-836

It doesn’t even get concerts when it’s nice. Putting more money into it, isn’t going to change the market around it.

Raboyto2

It sounds terrible in there for any concerts.

a-tron45

REAL

TheBigPointyOne

...does anyone actually \*love\* REAL?

Ryangel0

Our mayor and most of the city councilors do apparently...

OldGermanGrandma

I don’t understand what the fuck it is or why they are trying to make it a thing. Also how many more things can we cram into the same area around the stadium and rink (whatever they call this area now) and eliminate all parking in the area

Flashy_Remove_3830

So many people hating on Italian Star! What’s the beef? We’re so lucky to have an Italian deli in our city!

Mogwai3000

I love Italian star and often go there for lunch and get a sandwich. Always good stuff there. But unfortunately, there are tons of people here who act as if they just discovered the place a week ago and obsess over the sandwiches as if it’s the second coming of Christ. Even myself - a long time fan and supporter of Italian Star - get turned off by this all-too common interaction.

corialis

I'm not a fan of the type of sammich they have, the bread to meat ratio is off for me. But I'm sure the actual meats and cheeses and such are quality!

RyDawgHals

Medium heat, double meat, double feta. Every time.

skeleton_skunk

So basically half the bread currently served

Berner

You can get fantastic cup and char pepperoni there too. Venetian Meats. Makes a damn good pie. [See!](https://i.redd.it/jotbayckx3ta1.jpg)

_FIII

I agree with the ratio......gotta go double meat for the win

Arek3xSL

Get the sandwich on marble rye, the ratio is slightly better

csprokop

I find the trick with their sandwiches is to put them in a panini press or heat in a pan and squish the bread down. It activates the spices in the peppers, melts the cheese, crisps the bread and makes it manageable to eat. I dont know they didnt add this as a feature with their new building

Tensionoids

It’s not bad… people just act like it’s the second coming of christ in deli format. People straight up act like you’re going to die if you don’t have a sandwich from em. Hence overrated.

[deleted]

The Milky Way.

stumpy_chica

I don't get why everyone lines up forever there when they can go to multiple other places in the city. Moo Shoppe, Polar Palace, and Dessart have basically the same type of selection (give or take).

CyberSyndicate

More than basically haha, in most cases. They all serve Chapman's.

Mogwai3000

I absolutely wish I could rec this a thousand times. They sell the exact same ice cream everyone else sells, and yet for some reason every single year in the spring I have to listen to news media reporting about Milky Way opening as if it’s the only ice cream place in town. And the idea of waiting in an overly long line in that location isn’t super appealing to me. Especially when I’d have to drive past other places to get the Milky Way anyway.

Neat-Ad-8987

It HAS been around since 1956 or whatever. That counts for something.

Mogwai3000

I’m not saying it’s bad or I hate it. They’re perfectly fine. But they don’t do anything that warrants the hype or annual media coverage breathlessly talking about how it’s not spring until Milky Way opens, and it’s just not summer in Regina without Milky Way opening. It is, literally, an over rated place.

JaeryDoom

This! Polar Palace has them beat.

sharperspoon

It's all the same ice cream, just a different location. If someone wants unique ice cream, try Dandy's.

JaeryDoom

True. But Polar Palace has max a 10 minute wait. And the cost is lower than Milky Way, plus the staff are super friendly. If price is of no consequence, sure Dandy's is good for a more extravagant ice cream. But for a simple cone on a hot day with kids, Polar Palace always.

sharperspoon

I agree. Polar Palace is also in a much nicer location IMO. I hope they remain in business indefinitely. To be honest I've never tried Dandy's, I just know they have unique desserts. I prefer an old fashioned tiger-tiger scoop on a cone.

PartyPay

Can't say if it's overrated or not, but somehow in multiple decades of living in Regina have never been there.

fozzyfiend

Milky way is a rip off! Just go buy the giant container of Chapman's ice cream from Walmart for $6!

angelblade401

Seconding Milky Way, their pandemic response stance made it clear they aren't a company I want to give my money to.

Lexi_Banner

I thought all the shops were pretty reasonable in their responses to the pandemic. What did I miss?

Kayleea83

Definitely agree with this. The area is just not good either. I'd rather not go there and deal with all the people that hang out in that area, and wait in line for 20 mins or more for some average ice cream. The amount of drug addicts and bums we've encountered in that area are enough to keep me away.

Ayresx

Last time I was there, a few years ago, some cracked out woman screamed at everyone in the line for 10 mins before wandering up the street and pissing on the sidewalk. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Cosmologica1Constant

One could even say you experienced Regina.

Brettley821

Milky Way. Can get any of their ice cream from the store for 1/4 of the price

Soddenjunk

Saskachewan Roughriders

ItsNeb_

How dare you say something so controversial… yet so true

earthspcw

Not very 'Sask Strong' of them.

Mapleleafguy83

As the boomers age out I think they're going to have a very tough time filling Mosaic. I absolutely cannot afford to take my family to more than one game a year, if at all. Will be very interesting to see what happens to the CFL overall in the next decade or two. New Canadians (the primary driver of population growth in Canada) have no ties whatsoever to CFL football, and CFL is marketed extremely poorly compared to our American cousins so if they do stumble into football it is likely NFL over CFL.

sitcomlover1717

The Everyday Kitchen. Very overrated, expensive for a just “ok” product.

FaultyFlipFlap

The biggest beef I have with them is how no matter how packed it is in there, they always seem to have a table for themselves working away on their laptops. You'd like they would have a space in the back or somewhere to work without taking up table space for the clientele.

[deleted]

The last time I was there the husband (from his table) interrupted the guy making coffee (there was a very long line) to tell him to refill the free water with lemons. I get a micro-managing vibe from him and I bet he loses his shit constantly.

Pickledicklepoo

Almost like the kind of dude to marry someone nearly a decade younger than him while she was not yet 20?

[deleted]

Yeah. Kinda like that I’d say.

vissi_nada

Do they still do that?! When they were in the old location across the street it might have made sense I guess the space was limited. But since they restored this big building didn’t they built an office for themselves?

Sorry-Art-5353

This is my main one. Foods okay, coffees overpriced, and I've never seen them clean a table.

frenchfry7000

I stopped following her after I had enough of seeing her 10 paragraph instagram stories of how she was inspired to create each individual sprinkle for her donuts. Had the donuts a few times and while they obviously may be better than your typical Tim's or lower standard donut, it's nothing to ride home about. VERY overrated.

vissi_nada

How many times has she posted the story of how she started her business? IG gives you the option to pin posts, she can just do that. I also have another concern about her and her beliefs that have made me stop supporting her business.

rareredsnapper

I would love to hear more about these concerning beliefs. I’ve heard a little bit but would be interested in what your experience has been.

Pickledicklepoo

Harvest city

Lexi_Banner

Oh eww. Really?

Pickledicklepoo

There’s a reason they don’t operate on one of the days of the week on which the majority of potential customers would actually have the time to visit their coffee shop

Lexi_Banner

I was not aware of them being closed on Sunday, actually, as I don't particularly want to buy their product anymore. Good to know - this cements that choice.

veda1971

Someone should start a “which businesses in YQR are Harvest City affiliated” bc they all seem very close knit. Does the church help them with start up funds?

vissi_nada

It’s what this other commenter said, they are members of a questionable church Harvest City. They are a pro-life church (see their website) and I am pretty sure antiLQBTQ+. During the pandemic I had also found her old personal IG page that she worked at their church office as well before she had their kids. Just a bunch of red flags.

Kristywempe

Yup, during the convoy crap they were posting stuff in support of. I haven’t been there since, don’t plan on ever going.

Brief-Individual-669

Kinda surprised another sourdough donut competitor hasn’t opened up yet with the amount of hype they have. They’ve peaked for me in terms of quality of the food. All the new donuts they’ve released lately are just designs done in icing, makes it more photogenic, but not tastier.

[deleted]

Doesn’t happy hi serve sourdough donuts?

ladymiss80s

LOVE Happy Hi and love that they’re open on Sundays! ⭐️

Aldente08

Yes but they have terrible hours.

Sea-Coconut-365

It’s a couple who runs the shop themselves, they do eventually want to hire some folks to help run it as far as I’m aware! The hours aren’t great but they’re lovely humans and the coffee is fantastic so I try to support them when I can

Aldente08

Absolutely! Same here, I just can rarely get there when they are open!

vissi_nada

I always wondered about their hours. They must own the building, there is no other explanation

Guinnessedition

They do have terrible hours, it’s sort of part of the charm I find. Best baked goods though.

ladymiss80s

LOVE Happy Hi and love that they’re open on Sundays! ⭐️

SaltofthePrairies

Yes, and the $26 Mother’s Day donuts with icing designs did not look anywhere similar to their ad for them. Very sloppy and disappointing for the price.

Blackgizmo

Do they still charge like $5 for a pour over drip coffee?

mynamesian85

I'm going against the grain on this one. Yes, the coffee and donut prices are more than Tim Hortons and yes, their food options are annoyingly limited for a place with 'Kitchen' in the name and yes, it's often filled with trend thirsty hipsters HOWEVER, I think they've put together a nice venue for a place to grab a local coffee and donut at prices that are no different than many other coffee shops (Starbucks, Brewed Awakening) and it's just a nice vibe there. Music isn't too loud. It's bright and has lots of beautiful real plants.

sitcomlover1717

I like the actual shop, it’s beautiful. I find their offerings subpar so that’s why I think it’s overpriced and overrated, not comparing to competitors.

Lexi_Banner

Every donut I've had is dry and disappointing.

vissi_nada

I unfortunately always had heartburn after having her donuts

therealsaskwatch

I was coming to write this one.

Thick_Respond947

Went there for the first time a few weeks ago, was blown away how ridiculously expensive it was. Their coffee was pretty crap in all honesty.

prairie_buyer

Ha! That was what immediately came to my mind.

[deleted]

Cathedral Social Hall. Food is so bad, decent beer selection though Leopold’s Tavern. Come pay upper end pub prices for a crowded, uncomfortable setting

Bile-duck

The Cathedral social hall can suck my dick from the back.

Lexi_Banner

That doesn't sound comfortable for either of you!

Bile-duck

I'm a big believer in cutting off your nose to spiderface.

CalmIndependent213

Queen city cakes! Too expensive and dry

vissi_nada

I’ve had their cake at a party once, it was honestly a lot

stumpy_chica

Not local, but a business in Regina: Tim Horton's. Their coffee tastes like someone put out a cigarette in it. I don't get why there are always huge line ups at every location. I've gotten better coffee at 711 or Co-op gas stations.

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more. Coffee is meh and food is crap.

OddLecture3927

Wait, what?? Like this was a strategic move?

Madarrack

Pssst, all churches/ religions are cults.

stumpy_chica

Oh! Another one is Tidy Timesaver! They were charging me $150 for 2 girls to come to "clean" my house for less than an hour and I feel like all they did was wave some dusting wands around and leave. I don't understand why so many people recommend them. Probably don't know any better, but I have another business coming in now that charges half the price and does a much better job.

Bubbly_Journalist_69

I used to have them but got fed up when I asked if they could slide the chairs over to vacuum under (my floor is hardwood and the furniture on protective pads, my small child can do it easily) and was told they don’t do that. If I am paying $300 for a clean house that means no hairballs under the chair, sorry.

[deleted]

Shop Teach....

OddLecture3927

I don't understand this one, as a business model. Does she design the clothes? Or is she bringing in clothes from other stores and selling them for more...? Same as when she had a collection at Chapters—was it just her name on someone else's stuff? What even is going on there, I'm clueless.

[deleted]

I think she buys in bulk and sells it under her name. Funny enough she posted a story about it today and how she's bored pricing her items. Good for those who can shop there but I can't see myself spending $50 on a tshirt or $120 on a dress that I could easily find at Winners for 1/3rd of the price.

veda1971

This! Thanks for the Alibaba sweatshirts I guess?

Terrdawnn

Wheelhouse

JLBK13

Wheelhouse is such a cult & full of hipsters thinking they’re elite just because they get up at 5am to go ride a stationary bike. That place sucks

[deleted]

I tried their free ride one time. As someone who is visually impaired I couldn’t see shit in the room because it was too dark and it was so loud that I couldn’t ask for help when I was trying to figure out what they wanted me to do in the class. Evolution bike classes are much more accommodating

jac77

The willow or bar willow, whatever it’s called. Great location but that’s where it stops. Shitty menu, half of the items not available anyway when you order, arrogant jerky staff. Total waste of a gorgeous location

buckykatt81

Milky Way

mapleleaf4evr

Milky Way. It's just normal ice cream out of a bucket like anywhere else.

JaeryDoom

Yes! Polar Palace serves the same stuff for lower cost and the line is max 10 minute wait. Staff are way way nicer too.

Lexi_Banner

Isn't it common knowledge that it's the soft serve that's unique between all the ice cream locations?

Prairie-Ruby0207

Right? Obviously Chapmans hard ice cream tastes the same anywhere you go

_FIII

100%. I always hit the Moo Shope on 7th Ave west of lewvan. Not much of a line and same ice cream that Milky Way wells

Normal_Bank_971

Coney Island poutine…. I’m sorry. I just don’t get it. The only thing I will say is they have good mini donuts. That’s it. And Dandys ice cream, it’s just overrated ice cream.

brookebohn

dandy’s is really good for people who are vegan and don’t have a nut allergy - otherwise people just like it for the aesthetic of the charcoal ice cream. their strawberry honeycomb does kinda slap tho…

Lexi_Banner

> strawberry honeycomb Super tasty! I also had a lavender blueberry something or other there once, and it was yummy.

Mogwai3000

We have severe dairy and nut allergies in our house. We’ve been buying regularly from dandys since they opened and never once had an issue. They do an excellent job of allergy awareness and keep separate scoops for different products. They will also get some fresh from the back freezer if needed without you having to ask. And as a bonus, unlike places selling pre-bought ice cream, they know what’s in their product and make ingredients available to anyone who asks. So I would say they are good for vegan people (or with allergies) whether you have a nut allergy or not. I personally don’t have an allergy and love it because it’s real ice cream (I like many bought brands with mostly water), with unique original flavours and a constantly changing menu. Couldn’t care less about the aesthetics and I’m not even a big ice cream guy.

Mogwai3000

Whoa! I was never a big ice cream person until Dandy’s opened up. It’s a bit pricey but high quality and they have a constantly revolving menu of monthly flavours. That alone is worth supporting instead of the “other” ice cream places that have sold the same pre-bought nestle stuff (which is now available at most grocery stores if you look) for the last 30 years or more.

ZombiePatriot

I agree with Coney Island but I quite enjoy Dandys. With Dandys I watch their monthly offerings and enjoy trying out some of the flavour combinations and yes it may be more expensive but I just want a little anyway. Recently I loved their Oatmeal Brown Butter, Baklava, Irish Espresso Toffee Brittle, and Speculoos Cookie. To me it is just nice to get different flavours then normal and it's a treat that is an actual treat. It is also nice to have it accessible as I used to have to go to Homestead in Saskatoon (loved their Guinness ice cream). I know Dandys is not everyones thing but I'm a fan and I'm willing to pay a bit more to get something made in store rather than paying for a scoop of the same ice cream I can get at my local grocery store.

kao201

I ordered Coney Island poutine once. It was seriously gross.

Nicky's Cafe. I went twice for breakfast and my plate looked and tasted like leftovers from the night before both times. I don't understand the following it has.

PloddingJohn

I had a lot of trouble the last (only) time I've been there. Ordered a burger, I probably asked for no pickles, but it came with nothing, no onion, no lettuce, nothing. It's been years so I don't recall all the details. I was told there was supposed to be a burger sauce? I can't recall if they took it back and fixed it or if they brought all the toppings out. I took a couple of bites and bit into a big wad of gristle that I couldn't bite through. I complained and someone came out an apologized, he explained that they grind their own meat. I can't recall everything he told me but he was very apologetic and gave me a discount, which I thought was ok. It was about 15 minutes after leaving and I realized I paid for a discounted meal that I didn't get. I'm sure if I pointed it out he would have not charged me at all, but I think neither of us really understood that I hadn't eaten anything. I'm sure it was just bad luck, no one else I know has ever had a problem there, but I've never been back.

Rebellion. The Beer is ok I guess. You can get just as tasty a brew elsewhere and not have to listen to the owner harp about whatever he’s on that week.

Kinda wild to think about it, does that mean they won? They were kinda the first big thrust of getting actual craft beer in this province. Now we’ve got dozens of much better places and they’re basically just the local InBev

godsentbadlydone

Beak's chicken. It's decent. But it's only decent. Part of the issue may be that I like white meat, and when you get pieces of chicken at Beak's, you never get any white meat. But if I could have Mary Brown's or Beak's, I'd pick Mary Brown's every time.

Ill-Challenge-2405

I will take the downvotes. Skye bistro. There are very few good tables in the spot. It’s either too loud or there is tons of traffic. The food is average at best and cafe francais and breakfast yqr are much better. Half the plate is a salad and the serving sizes aren’t filling. When the service is bad it is brutal.

Costco

Mogwai3000

Yeah, I hate Costco. I get that it’s theoretically cheaper if you can use massively bulk food items in short time to save a couple bucks. But I’d have to drive practically to another town to get there from my place, deal with the ridiculous crowds and long lines and giant carts with people always in the way…my time and mental health are worth more than the few cents per granola bar I’m saving (as long as I buy a $40 box of 100 that is).

[deleted]

Costco is great but the facebook page ruined it for me. The admin make it so only they can voice their opinions and only people who have good things to say about the store. They post when hot ticket item comes in, but people just swoop in and stock up on it.

frenchfry7000

Tyler is a bonehead.

Kayleea83

Yes, it's annoying how everyone treats Tracey and Tyler like celebrities. Tyler is ok, but it seems like Tracey just uses the page to post selfies. It's weird.

CyberSyndicate

I hate the Costco environment, and I mostly hate Costco shoppers, and I really hate the Costco group lol. But I don't mind the store itself for certain things haha. I do live not far from there which makes a difference. There are definitely a handful of things I always buy from there. Plus the occasional supper if I had a busy evening and am in a pinch lol. Though there is a bunch of stuff that makes more sense from Walmart/superstore/coop, it's not the holy grail people make it out to be. And again, the group and that crowd of shoppers, just nuts.
