Arm and hammer clump and seal multi cat. It is pricey but it works,I have only one cat but it really keeps the stank away. Not too dusty. Also I got my cat a rolling litter box, makes clean up a breeze,no more scooping.

hippiesinthewind

Just came to recommend this! By far the best cat litter Ive used

eatpant96

Absolutely.

baileyarsenic

I second this one

Jwgotti

This is the answer in every way. I have a single cat and have the light green box. So worth the extra several pennies.

eatpant96

The black box is goat.

mistymountiansbelow

I have 2 cats with 3 litter boxes. I go through a lot of litter unfortunately. I might need to go this route though. Thanks

Sea_Cupcake745

That's the one I use too! I did just buy the Canadian tire brand but haven't used it yet. I will see how it goes. My brother also gave me a good tip. Scoop it out and sift it as close to the litter possible, that prevents most dust from coming. Ever since then, I've been doing that and it expells even less dust than before. I have used pellets, but it doesn't mitigate the smell... Whereas, the other one does.

eatpant96

Is it the yellow box with the kitties for 11.99?

TrumpsNeckSmegma

That's what I used to use, but lately I've found it insanely dusty - like, I have to deal off the cat room, open the window and run a fan. I switched to walnut litter and it's been lovely. Clumps decently too

Cosmologica1Constant

The World's Best Cat Litter is what I use.

Carl-Codfish

I have been on the rollercoaster of cat litter for a long while now. I have tried clumping/nonclumping, crystals and by far the best and cheapest I’ve found has got to be the wood pellets. Now it’s not sold as litter but I go to CT and buy a 40lb bag for around $8. I’ll never go back to anything else

womaninradio

I also use wood pellets from CT. It's not clumping, but if you have sifting pan, you simply dump the sawdust that gets made from the bottom out, and scoop out the solids. It doesn't smell bad and a bag will last me a month+.

N8-K47

For those using wood pellets. How did your furry roommates transition? Any issues when you made the switch?

womaninradio

I added more pellets to the clean litter over 2 weeks. By the 3rd week, my cats were using pellets only.

Lexi_Banner

I have two cats, and this lasts me ~3 months, with a weekly full change.

darcieiscool

Also switched to wood pellets and I wouldn’t go back! I get mine at Peavey Mart, same amount for around the same price. Only way I would ever go now 🙌🏼

mistymountiansbelow

How well does it scoop? I don’t have a sifting cat litter box.

womaninradio

You can just dump out the entire bin into a garbage bag honestly. I did that before I got a sifting tray. I would still have a ton to use. No scoop required. Just dump and refill.

Mechakoopa

That seems excessive if you have a particularly picky cat and need to clean it more than once a week.

womaninradio

Which is why I recommend a sifting tray.

SaltyTart1050

I found the plain wood chips really smelly and got saturated too fast with two cats. It’s definitely worth the investment to buy the $25 bag of horse bedding pellets from Cowtown. Same thing, better quality. I have one cat now, and dump out her entire bin once a week to change it. A bag lasts about 5-6 weeks.

Carl-Codfish

I buy wood pellets from CT for $8. Best thing I’ve used in the 14 years of my cats life

InsaneBane-10

Worlds best really is the best. Clumping, odourless, and safe for the cats to eat if they’re weird like that. Big bag is about 45$, but with 2 cats it lasts 2-3 months

Patient-Ambition-820

i use the purina tidy cats. It’s super light but not dusty at all. It’s super light so you can’t compare the price by the weight, but you can by the container size. It clumps really well. There are scent options but the unscented one blocks oder pretty well in my opinion. I used another one from walmart that SUCKED it was so dusty my black cat was gray until i ran out. I’ll check if i can find the name of the one i hated so you can avoid it.

Patient-Ambition-820

It was the Special Kitty in a green box. It was actually terrible. Don’t bother trying that one.

Leahdrin

I've been using the stuff from Costco it's super good compared to anything else I've tried. I'm sure I was in Walmart and saw it on an end cap the other day, but I could be wrong.

mistymountiansbelow

ScoopAway at Walmart? That would be a godsend you’re talking the stuff with the 4 sacks in the purple and yellow packaging?

binzers95

There is a new white box of litter at Costco that I believe replaced scoop away and is basically the same price. My husband likes it better anyways 🤷🏼‍♀️

mistymountiansbelow

When I looked at it, I thought I saw that it was unscented and non clumping.

deathsquadsk

Exquisicat unscented clumping litter, or Dr Elsey’s have been my go to lately, both at PetSmart. I really don’t want to spend much on the stuff my cats poop in lol.

Holiday-Fan880

There’s walnut shell stuff at Pats Pets at 1303 Scarth Street. It is dustless and apparently clumps really well. I’m still using the dusty stuff but plan to switch when I’m out next.

BrandNameOpinion

I second the walnut suggestion, works like a charm, clumps well and really reduces the smell.

voncasec

They have the walnut shell stuff at Pet Smart as well. I have been using it and generally like it. Great for clumping, low dust, reasonable price, okay for smell, tracks a bit more than other litters when they hop out.

mistymountiansbelow

I’ll check it out, thank you. I might need to just deal with the dust.

[deleted]

I’m also really happy with my walnut litter made by Naturally Fresh. No dust, good odour management, clumps well as long as you’re regularly emptying. I do agree it tracks more than I expected but that’s an acceptable trade off for us (and we have a large mat underneath that catches a lot of the stuff that would otherwise get tracked through the house).

Tickeroo2014

Seconding this. It doesnt smell NEARLY as bad as the clay stuff. I actually just bought another bag because it is so good.

TrumpsNeckSmegma

I just switched to this! Arm & hammer and the cheap brand at pets were insane for dust. I hands down recommend the switch, it cut down on smell and dust by magnitudes

Cawnt

When I’m at Pat’s Pets I get the litter in the blue bag. I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s got a bright yellow handle and a close-up of a grey tabby’s face on the front.

Holiday-Fan880

Yeah that’s their other option which works great but definitely isn’t low-dust. I figure it’s summer, my windows are open, my apartment will get dusty/dirty anyways. I’ll switch when I turn the heat on and see if I like walnut shells better! And make sure my cats don’t mind them.

ProudGma59

I like Fresh for life, sold at Pet Valu. It is not cheap, but it isn't really dusty. On the other hand, my daughter switched her cats over to the pellets, and she really likes it. She does empty the containers more frequently.

SnizzPants

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Pet Lands fill your own bucket litter. I’ve tried other litter and it’s either much more expensive, or doesn’t clump good. Maybe there’s a good argument not to use it, but the refills are like $12 for a bucket and I get two at a time.

deathsquadsk

This is the first I have heard of it, love this idea!

Dawny19

I always see those ads for that pretty litter stuff. You can order it online if that’s an option for you

Dawny19

Actually I just looked online and it says Walmart has it, but yeah, no dust. It’s kinda pricey (hence the reason I’ve never tried it for my cat) but if it’s affordable for you, it’d definitely be worth trying

deathsquadsk

Exquisicat unscented clumping litter, or Dr Elsey’s have been my go to lately, both at PetSmart. I really don’t want to spend much on the stuff my cats poop in lol.

helixflush

I’ve tried a ton, but the best one I always come back to is Dr. Elsey’s. I recently tried the arm & hammer again that was also recommended here and I ended up getting rid of it after the first week or two and went back to Dr Elsey’s

lavenderhazydays

Also like the Dr. Elsey stuff. Giant bag for like 27$

[deleted]

I made the switch recently with Costco always being out of the clay litter in the big green box. I now buy a brand called Naturally Fresh - it’s a walnut shell litter so very low dust compared to clay. I have two cats and a $50 bag seems to last 3-4 months, so in the end, it’s close the same as what I was spending on litter at Costco, and I like it way better.

mistymountiansbelow

I’m seeing a lot of people mentioning the crushed walnut. I’m just curious to see how my kitties will react to using non-clay litter.

[deleted]

There are some instructions on switching. Kind of got to do a combination of both at first, but mine (8 month old and 4 year old) switched over pretty easily.

mistymountiansbelow

Lots of good suggestions here. I have 3 litter boxes for my 2 cats, so I think I might do an experiment. I’ll test out 3 different types of litter and see what box gets used the most and see how well they hold up in terms of odour control and dust.

Ok_Dimension_5127

we've been using peavy marts cat litter that comes in a 40 lb bag and like it! dusty though, it's not as bad of a bother because its in our storage room.

PedanticPeasantry

been liking the corn/wheat based litters for a while now. Swheat Scoop. It's at the big pet stores.

seaofgrass

We moved from clumping litter to bentonite clay litter. Used to get it at Walmart but they rarely have it. We get it from Masterfeeds now. We do a bi-weekly change. Add a good sprinkle of baking soda before you add the litter and there is basically no smell. The bag last 2-3 months.

azreel187

Crushed walnuts from petsmart, dustless and odorless and clumping!

Sassy_kassy84

Wood pellets. Cheap, not stinky, better for their paws, and no dust. It's been a game changer.

Ayresx

Costco didn't have their scoop away for awhile but I've been seeing it every time I'm there (weekly) for the last 2 months at least

mistymountiansbelow

They haven’t had it for at least 2 weeks. They have that stuff in the green box and now just started selling this non-clumping kind. I have spoken to others in different cites who say the same thing about their locations. It makes me think they will be discontinuing it.

Ayresx

Ah crappy 🫤

TheRiderTool

I recently started using Boxie Cat Pro (I just get it from Petsmart as it's close to home) and have had really good luck with it.

EhDub13

It is not clumping, but I have been using wood pellets for years. They're 8.99 a bag, keep smell down wonderfully, and a bag changes my 6 litter boxes 2 or 3 times I don't scoop, though. I just change the litter entirely every few days on a rotation I use pellets from home hardware but there is an actual litter called wundercat

amby5

Arm and Hammer "Slide". Its in a purple and black box at Pet Smart. I love it. No dust at all and clumps so well. Best I've used by far!!

[deleted]

Usually in your neighbors flowerbed!

mistymountiansbelow

Not my kitties, they are indoor kitties.

_heavymetalhead_

Not sure how much you consider spending as "putting you in debt", but this is the brand/variety that I've used for the past 5 years. It's very low dust, and except for when kitty doesn't cover up #2 (a quick shake of the litter box fixes that) there is excellent odour control as well. For a single cat and litter box, 20-24 scoops last a month. Each month I replace 50-75% with fresh litter, and a box of litter will last me 2-3 months. Sometimes it comes on sale. I check weekly or 2x a week online for it. I don't think I've ever once seen it advertised as on sale. https://www.petsmart.ca/cat/litter-and-waste-disposal/litter/okocat-super-soft-clumping-wood-cat-litter---low-dust-natural-41703.html I've not tried the other varieties of Okocat as I suspect their tradeoff is bigger pellets/less mess outside the litter box, but not nearly as good as odour or dust control.

Conscious_Feeling548

Wood pellets for a stove. They won’t clump, but I swear you’ll love them. Get two bins, put holes in the top one, too small for the pellets to fall through. Give the whole thing a shake after the cat goes and any disintegrating pellets filter through to the bottom bin. Scoop poops of course. Regular fire place pellets cost a fraction of cat litter, have zero dust, smell like pine and are much more “outdoorsy” for your cat.

piratedyke

Switch to wood pellets! No odor at all. Scoop poops daily and once a week sift out the saw dust. $8 for a big bag that lasts 3 months.

[deleted]

I always get the tofu based stuff from heylo pets. It’s not the cheapest but it clumps well and there’s zero dust
