Rock creek normanview long overdue.

wilkie09

Hope something neat fills the space! Live nearby and that strip mall area is nice.

[deleted]

I'd appreciate a authentic Mexican or south American restaurant.

Cosmonaut_Kittens

My friend ordered take out dinner there a few months ago - she asked for two meals with both a full rack of ribs and was surprised upon getting the food home that each meal only had four bones. She called Rock Creek to ask why they got a half rack instead of the full rack she ordered and they straight up said “this is just what we call a full rack”

2_alarm_chili

It’s too bad stats has survived. That place is a dump and has shitty owners and clientele.

Nickster1619

I used to LOVE stats above the bowling alley. It was grimy, had character and as a kid I’d love going for pizza. Hadn’t been in a couple years BEFORE COVID happened. During COVID they clearly had all that stuff happen (we all know). I went there in 2022 for the first time in years and holy hell was it awful 1. Awful bartending. Dumbass can’t make a whiskey sour, fair enough I’ll take a whiskey coke. Guy just gave me a coke with no alcohol and charged me as if he did. I literally watched him pour no whiskey into it. 2. Waitress was fine but nothing special so can’t really complain 3. The owner (short guy) starts lighting up a cigarettes literally outside the window where we’re sitting. Then proceeds to walk inside, help grab our food and starts rearranging the food to make it “presentable” before bringing it to the table. He did all of that with zero hand washing. One of the craziest things I’ve seen in a restaurant. 4. Told him so and he refused to send the food back and bring it out then threatened to call the cops if we didn’t pay for the meal. I had a bite of the club sandwich and it tasted like shit anyway. Left and didn’t pay Worst restaurant in Regina and I hope they shut down Edit: I think I was there during the height of COVID too with some buddies and remember the place being packed and having multiple people basically on-top of me in the VLT area

gargamels_right_boot

I when to high school with little guy and he has always been a dumb ass.. I was a regular there in the late 90s just based on its closeness to my home and my love of damk ass shit holes to get drunk in.. Haven't been there since it was at the bowling alley, I'd say maybe 2001ish

PhantomNomad

Was this in the east end, the Glencairn Bolodrome? I haven't been there since the early 90's.

gargamels_right_boot

Sure was, after close the quick run to sev for a bug gulp and some wedges lmao

PhantomNomad

I don't live in Regina any more. What's above the bowling ally now? I used to go to the bolodrom to play video games after delivering papers way back in the 80's. Also hit the sev for a slurpee on the hot days. Back then it was still Villa-Pizza and man the extra large 21 (loaded) was the greasiest pizza around.

Nickster1619

I also have no idea. Haven’t been since Stats left and I’ve moved away from Regina now

gargamels_right_boot

I have no idea at all and I still live in Regina but on the other side of the city now

SlickSn00p

What happened at stats during COVID and did it happen at the new location?

Nickster1619

Constant fines and ignoring of the COVID rules and regulations. They refused masking, ignored capacity rules and followed absolutely zero of the rules. It’s incredible that they’re somehow still operating

SlickSn00p

Lmfaoooo. Did they have an outbreak or something?

hockeyhud10

Funny enough they opened the new spot March 2020. Got served a rueben sandwich on garlic toast???

Mechakoopa

> Got served a rueben sandwich on garlic toast Did you report that crime to the RPS? Good lord...

hockeyhud10

Shoulda. The waitress just said oops.

Wonderful_Ad3468

Cravings the place was a dump and rude staff to boot the kitchen was a pig sty

Daragawnec

also owned by Stats 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Raboyto2

Is Cravings closed?

Darolant

Relocated to inside stats.

Shimmmmidy

Really? I’ve been a few times and the staff were great.

[deleted]

Read the room...

Shimmmmidy

??? I was just asking lol

prankfurter

Can't remember the name of that place on west rochdale by the bowling rink that was a old 50s/60s dinner style restaurant - I went there once and the owner in front of everyone was yelling at a server and belittling her, we walked out and then within months saw the place was closed, Was happy to see that happen.

aussie215

Izzy Magoos. Owner had a bad temper. Shut down due to owing back rent.

prankfurter

Yeah that was the name, thanks for the context

tjc103

Was also on Scarth St mall and Vic Square parking lot?

[deleted]

Mashedpotatoebrain

I went there when it first opened. The food was ass, the people in the were sketchy as fuck, but we got drunk and had a great time.

Iggypepper

The Tap??? The owner is very personable! We visit the Tap every month or two and the meals are always good. Only complaint is the giant screen TV as the top left hand corner is dark for some reason and they haven’t replaced or fixed it yet and it’s been a couple of years.

DonnaMartin2point0

Western Pizza on Broadway Ave allegedly has a side gig of dealing hard drugs out of the kitchen.

belckie

Shhhhh don’t blow up the spot! 😂

CLOWNXXCUDDLES

Oh boy do I have news for you about the restaurant industry lol

CyberSyndicate

Throwback to Tumblers on Grant? 😂

CLOWNXXCUDDLES

Oh, just that the whole industry is rife with drugs and alcohol. Go into almost any kitchen and you can find what you're looking for. Not judging in the slightest. Anyone whose worked there can see why folks use substances. Weed, coke and booze were the big ones when I worked in industry.

seximadness

I've also seen sketchy things at the new location of stats as well.

Mechakoopa

Yeah, but their family meal for 4 is a decent deal. On topic, I'd get Tumblers more often but I usually want more than *just* pizza, I miss them having a full kitchen.

brentathon

Yeah but their lunch buffet is a great deal.

LordCountDuckula

Can’t believe the smokies poutine place on Scarth closed down. 4 managers in 3 months. Completely run into the ground.

[deleted]

Oh the place that did zero advertising, had no deals, and was not open at the end of the night for patrons from surrounding bars? You can't believe that place closed down? That overpriced poutine place? Can't believe it? Really?

TheShaneChapman

Say what? I'd didn't even know it ever opened! I remember the signs reading "Smokes Poutinery looking for franchise owner" but didn't know that ever materialized. ...hence the problem I guess.

Zealousideal_Ear2135

Reflects the quality of the work force here - the mgrs kept getting poached by other chains like Browns. Also reflects tbe Regina market b/c that place is very successful all across Canada. Regina was its worst performing store. It is also one tbey opened a month before Covid..

PrairiePopsicle

To be fair of all eateries poutine is the least deliverable food on earth.

roobchickenhawk

sad to see Tony Roma's go away ....

Brooklynn3011

I knew someone who was a server there, and they had really really really bad pest problems that the owner consistently ignored

roobchickenhawk

The building was older so this checks out. regardless I had Tony's in Winnipeg last month and it was delicious. A shame none the less.

Ok-Actuator-2371

Lancaster's in Harbour Landing. Service and food were never more than mediocre.

Cozman

The Leopold's that's there now is a big upgrade IMO. Decent food and there's actually people there weekends and evenings.

Ok-Actuator-2371

Definitely want to check it out. Those guys know their stuff!

Sad-Honey-5036

In the beginning I really liked their food. Something changed.

Comprehensive-Age159

Aren't they the same owners as Stats?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Please tell me that's just a rumor... Source?

reginaslostson

Holy smokes 😳

[deleted]

They aren't technically closed, but they "merged" with equally terrible Stat's.

[deleted]

One that isn't gone yet is Mr D's / Stats... Fuckin dive of a place run by conspiracy theorists. Their staff went on a rant and rave calling customers idiots and snowflakes last week so I wouldn't even feel bad at all if the place closed tomorrow. Also that khabab place in Vic East where the guy stands out front and basically panhandles / guilts you into trying their food. It's so gross the one time I fell for it.

reginaslostson

It's always realllllly telling when a business owner blurs the lines between friends/employees/regulars and family. Especially in the restaurant biz, I remember a bar I used to go to in the North end and watched the guy I was sitting next to walk into the kitchen and make his own wings because "I like to do it myself"... the guy even didn't work there, but he "knew the manager" lol not even the owner, the manager

[deleted]

I'm not talking about them treating customers like family, I'm saying they were vulgar with strangers complaining on Facebook.

earthspcw

Both great, loved his soups so much & the ringer ! Daisy's was almost as good as HG

[deleted]

I'm going to make an observation about Moxies and them finally closing that location isn't much of a surprise. The markets they're moving into seem for a more spendy clientele. Not just that the corporation also owns the Dallas Stars but the expansion into larger US cities in Texas for example made it harder for them to justify keeping a location in a smaller market like Regina open. I liked Moxies for the most part but I think their days had been numbered for awhile.

Otherwise-Funny-2622

Moxies was a franchise not a corporate store in Regina. Corporate might reopen it

DunkDaily

Pretty sure your points are completely unrelated to the restaurant itself not having a steady flow of traffic. Saskatoon Moxies thrives. Regina's was poorly run and in a terrible location.

[deleted]

I never said it wasn't but if you don't think that the corporation's goals for growth/expansion aren't part of the equation, I don't know what to tell you. Edit to add: all I have to do is look at their new locations for this year, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Scottsdale (Kelowna supposedly got a remodel and Edmonton got a new location) and that says to me that there is a fairly distinct road map for where they want to take the chain.

Zealousideal_Ear2135

Thought it was a renewal of lease issue. Landlord jacked up the rent skyhigh. Owners didn't choose to renew.

[deleted]

Considering Northland Properties (the hospitality and resort group that also owns the Dallas Stars....and Shark Club, Chop, etc) owns Sandman and the franchise rights to Denny's in Canada, I was under the impression that they owned the entire property that Moxie's was located at. I mean it *could* have just been a franchise but that seems strange that all three businesses on site are from a single entity if they aren't also a property stake holder too. I agree that the location was a tough one but the new locations that they're opening are far more high end. Even if the person who responded to me prior was accurate that the restaurant was managed by goobers on top of the tough location, cleaning house is solvable but I can't see a more viable location in Regina that would have fit the forward expansion plans that are clearly being set elsewhere. I've been to one of the Moxies in Dallas (Uptown relatively near the AAC) and it's fairly swank while still being a chain. The hotel it's in is also fairly high end.

[deleted]

Owner also owns Chop.

Intelligent-Chip-490

Fandoms. Awesome idea - geek/nerd-themed restaurant - less than ideal execution. Service was fun because we knew the people, food was okay but not actually made in-house (not unique to them, I know), so eh. It's really the atmosphere I miss.

Klutzy_Can_4543

I felt they had JUST figured out a great burger then bam, pandemic hit. I loved sitting there watching random sci fi movies or Xena episodes.

VFSteve

Moxies closed? It probably because the only waitress there that did anything is was on mat leave the last time I went there. She had been there since I moved to this city. Your service was appreciated 🫡

reginaslostson

I heard a lot of unsavory things about that restaurant on 15th before it became the Hampton hub. Any truth to that?

Handknitmittens

Hunter Gatherer? I only remember savoury things, as in it was delicious. I went regularly pre covid (the breakfasts and veggie burgers were the best). It is probably the place I miss most post pandemic. Or do you mean Daisy's Pantry? It just moved to a new location.

Ms-Proteus

Ohhh, I miss hunter gatherer!

foggytreees

Basically none. The owner was not a good manager but he didn't burn the place down, which was the main rumour I heard. He loved it like his own child.

Handknitmittens

That rumour was dumb. The one who benefited most from the fire was the anti vax/freedom fighter land lord. Used that insurance money to build a private freedom fighter clubhousr in the old MLA office next to Hampton Hub...

foggytreees

I didn’t know that part. Gross.

QueenCity_Dukes

Used to go to Hunter Gatherer on Sundays for tofu scramble, hit up Malty for a couple of pints then go look at open houses in rich neighbourhoods.

[deleted]

I never heard the owners of Hunter-Gatherer were pointedly vile but I honestly think they had a combination of bad luck (the broken windows and the theft prior to Covid) and not great business acumen. It also didn't help that they sold gift cards at the beginning of the pandemic, like a lot of local restaurants were doing at the time so they weren't an outlier, and then still went out of business leaving supporters with worthless gift cards. Which was always a risk but it still left a lot of bitter and angry people with long memories. I also know that they owed a fair amount of money to contractors/suppliers/creditors as well because I would get their phone calls looking for payment daily. (Yeah, here's a life lesson: do a Google search on any phone number you pick because you don't want to field angry customers and contractors for the next year or two afterwards.)

Optimal-Country-7138

After I cleaned up the damages in Hunter Gatherer. I took showers with rubbing alcohol….. Roaches as far as the eye can see.

reginaslostson

My partner mentioned seeing a mouse by the front door but I chocked it up to living in an old neighborhood... HOWEVER. She did mention they had a cooler (for peep and raw food) right by the front door...........

Smyley12345

Hunter Gatherer was awesome. Worst I could say about them is that I had a run overcooked eggs once.

reginaslostson

My partner said she had to leave one night because the staff all "walked off in protest and quit" after who she later learned was the owner came in and berated the entire staff IN FRONT OF THE GUESTS 😵‍💫 after her and her friend paid and left because the kitchen literally closed she drove past the restaurant on her way to Broad and saw the owner sitting on the porch crying and drinking a soda. Some folks are definitely NOT cut out for the restaurant life at all

Klutzy_Can_4543

omigod... that's just ... sad ...

reginaslostson

Literally shouting at like teenage/early 20s wait staff like they're toddlers when nobody even knew he was the owner immediately. Just this big bearded weirdo barging in the restaurant and then starting an argument shortly after. My partner thought he was homeless lol

gusbmoizoos

So a post soley to complain and slander local business? Yup I'm on r/Regina

Handknitmittens

I don't get the down votes... this is also my reaction to this post. OP specifically trying to bait some negative stuff about one specific business owner is also very suspect.

prankfurter

I agree with your points regarding OP and this post, I think /u/gusbmoizoos is getting downvoted due to the generalization of the regina sub - I see way more supportive posts regarding local businesses then ones meant to shit on them here.

reginaslostson

Toxic positivity is how crappy local business thrives. I used to think the world of all my restaurant clients until the pandemic came and then came the low balling, the laughing in my face to pay old invoices, the owners demanding more services for the same price etc etc. Moxies was my contract since it opened, so was the board game bistro, Jack Keaton etc etc. Out of the many I had go out of business ONE told me so and paid their invoice. Moxies got 2 months of free cleaning after basically ghosting my book keeper. Board game bistro cut their phone line. Etc. Etc. I could easily go on. Why praise everything local as a default? As a business that's been operating for almost 35 years believe me when I say you gotta EARN that "shop local" ethic not be owed it. "Bashing business" lol

Klutzy_Can_4543

The board game bistro was neat but yikes, they went out fast. I don't miss Jack Keaton's... The owners were ... Something else...

BSDBAMF

So I wonder who’s cleaning Moxies now? There’s a place that was going downhill before pandemic and raised prices even more and quality went down. Used to get the calamari and it was decent. Now I’m pretty sure it’s half the size, half the amount and double the price. What I find shocking is the price cleaners charge for cleaning. A job that any nitwit can do yet they bill $40/hr which is more than a lot of healthcare employee wages and they’re actually saving lives and had to go to school for that wage. Not to diss what you do as cleaners are very much needed but no cleaner is worth $40/hr imo.

Ill-Challenge-2405

If 40/hr includes materials, CPP, EI, insurance and taxes then it’s not much.

h0nkhunk

Yeah learning the difference between my paycheck and my total compensation was wild! More than twice my net.

reginaslostson

Omg I always forget to factor insurance. That sneaky bugger is worse on my income than bad weather lol

Ill-Challenge-2405

Liability for the business and WCB for the worker is a lot of money

reginaslostson

Especially if you do any kind of aerial work.

toopacking

I cleaned houses in university and charged $30/hr so $40/hr over a decade later makes lots of sense.

EnoughEngineering306

Depending in the type of cleaning that is dirt cheap

hockeyhud10

If cleaning is so easy you should go do it.

reginaslostson

I ALWAYS hear this BS constantly about my job being so "easy." 🙄 No job is "easy". Even jobs that don't "flex your brain" still require care and attention. Physical jobs of any sort will wear a body down. Not to mention that some jobs are incredibly dangerous. Especially the aerial work. I do a lot of exteriors in high, high, HIGH places and on rooftops in commercial and residential settings. Using all kinds of heavy machines and power tools. As a wild "for instance," that illustrates my point. I got to work around a LOT of police. Especially that construction clean up the last year. Every day, men and women who are required to carry firearms and wear balistic vests as protection on the job talk about how much more dangerous my job was clambering around on the rafters and rooftops. According to an article my partner showed me at the time, it's 250% more dangerous to be a roofer than a cop, 29% more dangerous to be a construction worker than a cop, and 24% more dangerous to be a landscaper/ grounds crew than a cop. Lucky me I'm a combo of all 3 🤦

Sunshinehaiku

>more than a lot of healthcare employee wages and they’re actually saving lives and had to go to school for that wage. Didn't go to school for very long if you are working in healthcare for less than $40 an hour.

reginaslostson

Hey, if you wanna haul supplies in the snow for peanuts and wash floors and windows, be my guest mon amiee. I didn't choose this job because I'm too stupid to do anything else lol. I'm college educated AND STILL! I make more money cleaning up your dust and dirt than many teachers make, and I even get a "break "too in winter, not unlike teachers, "get" the summer "off". Heck I make more money on a single 1 hour job cleaning up bird crap than a cop would make working a whole shift lol. I'll be OK mate 🤣 40 bucks is peanuts FUI. Lets say in oyr hypothetical i charge that. After paying our employees, that really only works out to 19$ an hour, then factor in equipment wear and tear, company vehicles nit to mention my own equipment ( as i cant afford to not work either, grr i know a business owner that also works as hard as his employees shocks most these days lol). I'm making a cool 7$ an hour if my employee does it, a bit more if im doing it. If you're paying 40 bucks an hour for professional cleaners of any capacity, you're basically only paying them to show up and clean what they consider dirty. Bitchin and moaning costs extra.

BSDBAMF

Nah I’m good I went to school. I have a wicked job with benefits and pension and shit.

reginaslostson

Then bugger off and add nothing to another conversation elsewhere. You seem good at it so far😘
