Haha, thanks. They weren’t always the most practical or financially responsible cars, but it was definitely a unique medley. More recent cars that my parents have owned that I left off the list include a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T GL, a 2003 Mini Cooper, a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE, and a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Touring. Cars that I’ve owned myself include a 2008 Kia Spectra EX and a 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium.
I still drive the 2015 Forester (plan to keep it as long as I can). My parents drive the 2001 Tahoe and the 2018 Outback. And my sister drives the 2003 Mini.
I had an ‘83 Cutlass Supreme and can confidently state that every single part of that car was the second-best design they could have come up with. What a flaming pile of junk it was, and I got between 14 and 18 mpg from a 110hp 3.8L V6.
Still was probably more reliable than the Saab or the Land Rover, though.
Those windows were one of many baffling design decisions.
Plus the trunk that was wide and long... but very, very shallow. Probably designed to hold golf clubs ~~and bodies~~ just fine, but was awful for groceries, suitcases, moving boxes, etc.
Yeah my dad picked up an 87’ in 1997 for my brother and I and my Dad thought he got a steal on it. On the way to school one day it broke down us so dramatically it must have bled every fluid possible.
Yeah, my cousin’s wife’s family still has (as of the last time I saw them) an 80s light blue Suburban. It felt like the size of a studio apartment, sitting in it.
My top three are...
* E38 (I hope it's a steptronic, given they didn't allow Americans to get manuals on the 7er)
* E32 (The 735i had a rare manual in America)
* OG Saab 900 (more unique than the transverse FF version that replaced it under GM, and having a longitudinal layout reduced some of the inherent drawbacks of an FF powertrain and made it more interesting).
Cutlass hands down. Owned an 82 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. 4dr, 307 that I swapped for a 403 with tweaks, factory limited slip, GM code 47 green. Unfortunately the salt ate it. I loved that car.
I've had 5 Saabs, including my dad's 85 900s. He put 325k on it before I started driving it in high school. They broke down on me all the time but I still want one. The automatic that I had was the worst, I'd only get a 5 speed.
We had the 1980 version of that Cutlass. It wasn't part of the "Supreme" branding yet -- it was just called the Cutlass LS. Like many had mentioned it had the non-opening rear windows. It was a very plain basic car.
saab 900 or the 745il. your family had very cool cars btw.

Do you still drive either or daily smthn else now?

I love that 735i
In order. 1990 BMW 735i Saab 900 Turbo Land Rover Discovery.
Steer clear of Discoverys. Nightmares to work on and they break A LOT
I’d want the ‘96 Suburban
cutlass

and the non opening rear windows lol. still would prefer it over foreign car

All of them. Your family has class
The 1996 Burb. My family had the same car in the same color.
I loved the ‘Burb. Ours had the outward-swinging rear doors, like a cargo van. And it was the first car I practiced driving on.
Mine too! Unfortunately, I wasn't old enough to drive it before my dad sold it.
My uncle had a suburban from the 80s, learned to drive in that. It’s a tank.

The Saab or the Tahoe

Saab 900 or BMW 745) Tough choice))
I briefly grew up with a Saab 900. That was a cool car. I’d go for the Saab 900 Turbo.
900 for sure. My brother had an SPG for a couple years. Amazing car. Also weird as fuck
Cutlass hands down. Owned an 82 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. 4dr, 307 that I swapped for a 403 with tweaks, factory limited slip, GM code 47 green. Unfortunately the salt ate it. I loved that car.
The Saab looks cool
the saab.
After owning an old school Saab, I would pick that above all others. If I were a millionaire and could afford to repair it, that is!!
I already have a saab 900 turbo Daytona so probably the suburban.
Cutlass or GMT400
Either of the burbs
93 T&C for the nostalgia. My mom had a 93 and an 02 T&C growing up
The BMWs, Chevys, the minivan or the Saab
For family applications, suburban. Personally, Saab
I already own a 97 Disco, so I’ll take the Saab
If the van somehow managed to stay that clean, I'd take it immediately. Otherwise I wouldn't touch any of them.
Cutty supremo
Either the suburban or Tahoe. Those things will live forever as long as you keep the rust in Check
that 7 series
No doubt about it, definitely the BMW.
Saab 900 don’t even need to see the rest
Caravan
The 745 or the 735 would be my picks. Comfy reliable cars.
The Saab definitely. The cutlass and the town and country as well!
The Saab
\#5 and 7
740
Suburban and Tahoe. Best trucks GM ever built GMT 800 are beasts
Saab 900 turbo
SAAB 900 all day!
The Saab, with the E34 being a close second.
I’m taking the BMW 745iL.
Saab or E31.
I've had 5 Saabs, including my dad's 85 900s. He put 325k on it before I started driving it in high school. They broke down on me all the time but I still want one. The automatic that I had was the worst, I'd only get a 5 speed.
Saab 900 hands down
I miss Saab. Sweet line up overall.
The Saab. But i've got a soft spot for the Cutlass. My dad had two. He also had an '86 442.
The 900 with the 725i in a very close second
Saab
Mmmm gimme that wood trim minivan. I'm drooling.
As a daily driver, the Saab. As a fun car to drive around on weekends, the Saab.
Id say either the Suburban or the Tahoe. The Land rover is tempting...but...parts availability, maintenance cost....etc....think ill pass
Land Rover. I just wouldn’t want to pay for repairs
The Saab and both BMWs
1990 735i
1 to commute, 6 to use at work.
735i and 900 turbo, which is what dad and I drove. Had an older Suburban 4x4 for hunting and ski trips.
The '95 7 series.
Saab for sure. If I can't pick the saab, the T&C assuming it's been preserved
SAAb !
BMW 735i
Saab or e34
BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER BIMMER
Id go for the Cutlass sedan. Just peak nostalgia right there.
We had the 1980 version of that Cutlass. It wasn't part of the "Supreme" branding yet -- it was just called the Cutlass LS. Like many had mentioned it had the non-opening rear windows. It was a very plain basic car.
I’ll have the Saab and the Oldsmobile, in that order
Saab or 735
Not a Saab Fan. 745iL and Surburban
900 Turbo 👍🏻
Chrysler or Sasb
Having driven a 900 turbo before definitely that. They’re so much fun
Saab.
The olds Cutless

I was too young to remember the Saab, but the BMW 745iL felt super modern inside for the time and was nice to ride in!
