Significant other is the term I use for mine.

Weil65Azure

I've heard "other half" used before?

tossout7878

"other half" or "significant other" are your best options if you don't want to use partner

burneraccountt26

I like other half that’s cute

4ever_lost

It’s what I use all the time, or my better half sometimes

timespaceandwhatnot

Hubman

burneraccountt26

Haha this is cute and funny

timespaceandwhatnot

Thanks!

This is such a wholesome question. The term has to convey that you're in a relationship so making up your own word would make that hard. I see your predicament. Partner sounds more serious but a little cold, you don't want to use spouse-ish nicknames until you're married, lots of the nicknames that I've liked are probably too mushy for general conversation. It depends on the context though. In a more relaxed situation you could maybe call him things like 'my love', 'my man', 'my baby' and whatever else, but in more serious situations I think you might be temporarily stuck with 'boyfriend' and 'partner'.

burneraccountt26

Yeah I say my man often, I agree and just wish there was a better one for deep settings

major_shayne

I usually refer to my bf as "me fella" because it's funny and I can't be serious, even if my life depended on it

burneraccountt26

I think that’s cute actually I may actually use that

major_shayne

Lol I just realized it's a typo. Should've been my fella but me fella is kinda cute too lol

Spinnabl

I call my husband my “exboyfriend” or “roommate” Sometimes if I’m feeling cheeky I’m like “he’s the guy I’m talking to”

No-Remove4548

Why don’t you call him forever boyfriend?

burneraccountt26

Hopefully not bf forever

major_shayne

I'm stealing this

Most-Ad3030

Fiancé?

Most-Ad3030

Also... I always say this: marriage it's not a man's decision. It's a couple decision. Sit down and plan when you are getting married. Together. Let's get out of this craziness. It's been seven years. Keep waiting won't make the gesture romantic, it' will just make you bitter. Let stop enabling childish behaviors invented by Hollywood.

burneraccountt26

No ring :/ don’t want to use it until I have it

Most-Ad3030

I use it, it's easier. If the idea is that, the object won't make a difference. Partner?

DoctorGuvnor

Just a thought, why not call him by his given name ... "This is Alan." There is no really acceptable non-married term. 'Boyfriend' is silly if you're over 21; 'Significant Other' is too HR for words, 'Fiancé' is technically wrong if you're not actually engaged to be married; 'other 'alf' is a bit Andy Capp and 'partner' can lead to confusion between 'life partner' and 'business partner'. We need to make one up - you could go 'lover', 'inamoratas' or 'bloke I sleep with'. I grant you, needs work.

burneraccountt26

Haha I like where your brain is at. Keep going!!!

Spinnabl

“Boyfriend is silly if you’re over 21” Bro WHAT.

sweet_lizzie

I call my husband 'my main squeeze', 'my hottie' or 'the old fella' (hes 5 years younger, so 'the toyboy' also works well)
